I'm using spark OS rom, do I need to reset everything to install the new version, is it enough to reset the system?
Ideally, when installing a new rom, is it wise to perform a clean flash. That means wiping everything, like internal and data. That's the best way to ensure you won't get problems in the long run. Dirty flashing, what are you suggesting, allows you to keep your data when installing a new rom. It is prone to errors and bugs. Personally I always go for a clean flash.
do not want to delete my data to update the spark os I am using now, so I asked my device is redmi note 8 pro

So I've found a lot of threads on here giving me great info on how to handle various situations, but given what I'm looking to do with my phone, I'm not sure what order to do everything in and what tools are best. Currently, my T989 is on ICS 4.0.3 (UVLE1), rooted, with CWM installed. When I originally upgraded to ICS, something got messed up that caused my phone to hang on "Goodbye" anytime I try to turn it off/reboot. I've read that Darkside's Cache Wipe can fix that issue, but basically I'd like to wipe the device, start fresh with a stock build and get everything right from the start. I will likely root it again later, but I'd at least like to get it reset to stock and have everything working correctly first.
What I'm looking to do:
Unroot and uninstall CWM
Wipe the phone clean (all data, cache, partitions, etc.)
Clear the phone entirely back to stock OS/stock recovery/stock everything
Upgrade to the latest stock OS (if necessary)
I'd like to do all this while also fixing whatever caused the hang while shutting down/rebooting. I'd also like to use a stock OS image from Kies instead of downloading one from other places if at all possible (I'm a tad paranoid/OCD when it comes to stuff like that). I've seen two Darkside tools-- cache wipe and super wipe, and I'm not sure if I need one or both of them to help with clearing off the device/fixing my reboot issue.
So with all that in mind, what's my best route to take? I'm just looking for what tools to use and in what order, there are enough great guides on here on how to use the various tools that I can figure out the rest from those. In other words, "Use X to clear blah, uninstall Y while choosing yadda, install Z" etc. I hope that's not too tall of an order Thanks to all for your help!

Wanted to start by saying a big THANK YOU to @ThunderStick and all the other devs that have worked on this. I came from Stock Rooted 4.1.2 and it was great to have a stock 4.3 (MK3) ROM with all this awesomeness added already (and KNOX removed). I flashed the "SPHL710_ALLINONE_MK3_ODEX_12-04-2013_1030pm.zip". That said, I'm having a couple minor issues...
Reoccurring download notifications:
Issue: Every few minutes my notification tray fills up with all the files I downloaded previously.
Fix: Open the Downloads app and clear the list on both tabs.
Apps constantly crashing
Issue: Several apps crash on boot and more won't open.
Fix: I'm able to remove/reinstall these apps and the problem is fixed, but this doesn't seem like it should be necessary.
Android Upgrading on every boot
Issue: Every time I boot I get the notification that Android is upgrading. I don't know that it upgrades the apps every time, but still annoying to have the delayed boot.
Fix: No fix yet.
NFC/Google Wallet
Issue: I'm getting the NfcPaymentSetupFailure: 1 error, which I read means my Secure Element for Tap and Pay is busted.
Fix: No fix yet. I was able to restore my backup and setup Google Wallet and Tap and Pay without problems. Still won't work on new ROM though - even after clearing things in the app.
Now for the real questions
Should I try the DEODEX version? Would it be better to just flash all the updates/changes separately instead of using this script? Has anyone else had these issues or know fixes? The NFC thing is probably my biggest concern at this time - I can deal with the rest probably.
Thanks for your help!
First question is did you do a clean install ? Meaning did you do a FULL Wipe before flashing the Rom ? By FULL Wipe I mean : system - data - caches - factory reset. I would also suggest wiping internal storage on the device. Especially if coming from 4.1.2 . Second question is did you verify the MD5 checksums before flashing ?

Thanks for the reply. No, I did not do a complete wipe. The ROM I flashed did a wipe on System, but I didn't wipe data. That would likely solve the Android Upgrade reoccurrence and crashing apps, but kinda defeats the point in taking an upgrade based on a factory upgrade. I did wipe cache and Dalvic Cache a few times after flashing - just to make sure...
I did have difficulty downloading from the Goo.im link and ended up downloading to my PC then transferring over. Checked the MD5 once I got it to my phone and it matched.
Doing a FULL Wipe may seem like it's more work than it is worth. But in the long run it will save you time, and headaches. Also there are many apps that will help restore some, if not most of your data. Although I will caution you. It is best to tread lightly when restoring data. Especially system data. Which I suggest you stay away from doing.
This has been my biggest problem with my OP3 and OOS. I want to be able to safely dirty flash my rom without losing data.
Im a long time Android power user. CyanogenMod would always be a nice easy upgrade to the latest version. Dirty unicorns, albeit buggy on my Oppo Find 7, would upgrade easily.
The last time I tried an OTA update, it trashed all my data and settings. Subsequent updates have been major upgrades (updating kernels. Major changes like OOS 3.X to 4.X. etc etc), so I haven't tried doing a OTA/Dirty flash in a while. I have been cautious since the data wipe last time.
Any advice on how I can do an OTA easily and safely?
I have TWRP. I'm UNrooted and on OOS 4.1.1.
Backup everything.. Wipe system flash 4.1.1 and it should be fine, if not restore your back up. System does not contain any data nor settings.
Ok. Will it work with the 4.1.6 OTA I got? Or should I download the full room from the website
You have to download the full zip if you have TWRP installed. You can't update via ota.
I would recommend a TWRP backup and system, cache/dalvic wipe too.

Well, you know, I had the same issue with my wife's 3T. Was terrible (and lucky), right out of the box, try to upgrade like you want to do, and the update would fail in the middle, requiring to wipe the phone to have it boot.
Luckily, as I said, the phone was new like 5 minutes old. I don't imagine what would happen after a few months use.
What I did to make it work was to use the stock recovery to flash the full rom zip from OP servers, and that worked.
All subsequent updates went well (with a little bit of stress we all know : will it boot, won't it? and if it does not, will I keep my head?)
Haha. Of course, you must be on stock recovery to do so, but it's easy to do, just follow the official way to do it "manually".
Oh, and backup all your stuff
Hi, my oneplus 3 has been really laggy and slow after updates and a year of use. After looking into solutions, factory resets and custom roms seemed to fixed these problems.
My oneplus is rooted and I've got lots of data (the apps, my note pad and my precious photos.) I know I can just reinstall it or restart my photos from google photos (but it's got no mass download so it's gonna be a pain restoring it all.)
So I'm just asking for a Good custom rom to install for OnePlus 3 without losing any data and my root. Thanks! :fingers-crossed:

You need not lose anything if you follow the advice given for flashing custom ROMS. Choose the ROM, go through the instructions, read atleast the last couple of pages of the thread (more if possible) and flash the ROM.
As to what is good, each person's requirements differ, so the best thing would be to choose a few ROMs based on the features you want, read their threads and choose. You can flash a different ROM if the chosen one doesn't perform according to your requirements.
Instead of factory resetting, try a clean flash of OOS 5.0.1 itself first.

Try dirty fastbooting the factory image to both slots. If it doesn't resolve the problem, it's really no big deal since you couldn't install it anyway since your rooted.

You see i dirty flashed the otp and didn't root to be able to update to Android Q so am almost completely stock with unlocked bootloader and i noticed the havoc os disables the system updates so it wouldn't break it that's possibly the reason

Why don't you try "dirty flashing" the Full Factory image instead of the OTA; the OTA just updates and builds upon the established system partition -- so if there's a glitch or bug, it will retain and possibly build upon it -- whereas flashing the Full Factory will format (i'm under the impression) and replace/reinstall/reflash the system (among others like bootloader, vendor, etc.) partition. In this way, you can be assured that the system that's updated and placed in the system isn't "built upon" any pre-existing glitch or bug. Also, in case you are unaware (as it seems, since you still throw out terms like "dirty flashing", running custom ROMs and "dirty flashing" because you don't wish to lose data) that you can flash the Full Factory image without losing data by modifying the flash-all .bat file script by removing the "-w" attribute...
And, with all that, here's hoping that the "system updates" will be available again, and/or it removing whatever the custom ROM HavocOS may have done (i'm not all too convinced whatever the custom rom did would "survive" reflashing the stock rom...). One thing to keep in mind, it seems that there is a lot of issues happening with users updating to the Android Q beta, then attempting to downgrade without losing/formatting the /data & /internalsd or without factory resetting (which is essentially the same thing as losing & formatting/reinstalling all the partitions)... So, in the end, if you still have those issues and/or have more issues, you may need to backup and "lose" all of your data to get your device working properly anyways...
hope this helps...
