Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
This is a weak spot as it's no well known worldwide. Dev's are not too many and custom ROMs or even Official Updates are missing.
Official updates are excellent and fast since android 8 dropped. I usually get security updates the same month they are for. But it's true, no real custom rom development as of yet. Hopefully we get better sw once Project Treble compatible roms are available.
The Phone is good enough. Nothing spectacular. When I got the root sorted by using the Krom root, the phone is stable. I have high hopes and expectations for the resurrection remix ROM via the openkirin project, in my opinion the best ROM out there.

Would you please explain how did you root your phone with mentioned method (kroom root) ?
Do you think I will be able to root my phone Huawei Mate 9 PRO (LON-L29 8.0.0.378(C432)
I have been searching for root for a long time now, but I am very confused since there isn't really good community around this model.
I hope somebody will be able to help rooting my phone.
Thank you in advance guys

Assuming you have unlocked the bootloader.
You can download Krom from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9-pro/development/kangvip-rom-b354-mate-9-pro-links-t3790605
When you unzip the rom files, you will find Run.bat Run that file and when it's time to install, you get to the install menu, you select option 2 instead of option 1. Your phone will then be rooted and reboot. Enjoy.

I will try it as soon as I have time and write back here.
But in download section of kangvip roms the latest version of kangvip is m9pro... E.8..370, mine is 378 do you think it is going to be problem if I use that, or should I try to downgrade somehow?

Thank you very much for the support. I am still searching for the best way to get root to bypass safetynet. It seems like magisk root is best way to do so. I am also looking for twrp supports decryption, I might have found one I didn't try it yet. This is the link https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3783353

Well I guess I will not be able to root after all since I don't have the bootloader code. I contacted Huawei support, they do not promise anything but there is still a tiny hope.
I know there is options like DC unlocker etc but I didn't get / read any confirmation about that anyone have successfully rooted their mate 9 pro [No EXTERNAL SD double sim version (LON-L29)] with a DC given code.
In this point I don't know what to do. Even if if I somehow manage to get the bootloader code I still need to find proper magisk root method. Mate 9 pro has no good community unfortunately.
I know my next phone is gonna be root friendly device like One Plus 6 or Google phone etc.
I hate not having full control of my own device.

I'm with you on this one.
Owning this device has taught me a few life long lessons:
1. Buy a popular phone, more spare parts, cheaper repair
2. Buy a popular phone, more community support and custom ROMs
3. Buy a popular phone, cheaper, especially second hand, which I personally prefer
4. Buy a popular phone, got an issue? Someone else already solved it
5. ???
6. Profit
Hi everyone!
This is just my corner where I drop the builds of Lineage-15.1 that I personally use. They do contain a few smaller customisations, like a custom kernel and other goodies that I personally need. I'm posting this here in case somebody finds them to be useful.
Nooby Disclaimer:
I'm not a developer and just because I've got a thread here, doesn't mean I fully know what I'm doing when modding or building ROMs. What I publish is used by myself personally and thereby tested as daily driver. If something still breaks and your phone doesn't survive the smoke test, that's your problem and not mine.
Builds will mostly cater towards my needs if I have any special wishes with the hopes that the changes are useful or interesting for someone else as well (won't be too deep changes I think).
Some info/bugs specific to this build:
SELinux defaults to permissive
Make sure you tell OpenGapps to keep LineageOS Snap installed, Google Camera crashes.
Fails SafetyNet Test, don't use if you need that to verify.
OTA Support (Can somebody confirm that it works?.). The Updater should notify you of a new version.
Other than that, there's not much to say about it. It's LineageOS 15.1, what more could you wish for?

I'm going to ignore the passive-aggressiveness and just go ahead and argue that with time that my builds will deviate a tiny bit from vanilla Lineage here and there, be it only tiny tweaks and goodies like Pixel Navbar, kernel with Kali Nethunter support and OTA support. Besides, I wouldn't expect a 14.1 thread to contain Lineage15.1, now would I? Fss.

No need to get snippy. Just commenting that I've been running builds for weeks now bringing up 15.1, and there's 40+ people in the hangouts group I made. I can't stop you from releasing builds or building from my sources (and nor do I care to), just letting you know that it's incorrect to say nobody's been building unofficials.
Sorry, I do apologise, but your comment did sound passive-aggressive even after reading over it multiple times. My point still stands though.

Not sure what you are asking, but I had to override the build type branding to NIGHTLY in order to have the OTA server working. Just flash it over the old version. If you're using twrp and it doesn't want to flash, I'll have a Lineage recovery here, flashing that and then flashing the update using the lineage recovery always worked for me. http://tf2glados.dynv6net:8080/LineageRecovery/
Otherwise, just update TWRP. I tried it with the latest TWRP version just now and it works.

Hello, thank you for working on this.
I flashed it yesterday and had an issue with mounting USB to my windows computer.
It worked on the first boot, and I was able to pull down the notification bar and tell it to transfer files. However on subsequent boots it did not give me such an option, although rebooting to recovery with the cable plugged in the same way mounted the device in my computer.

I haven't had any issues with that and I wouldn't consider it a build-specific bug, but I might be able to help you anyway. Plug in the phone, go to developer options and tap on "Select USB Configuration" and set it to MTP. That mostly fixes hiccups with USB modes for me. Otherwise, try replacing the cable if you're using the original Nextbit one that came with it. Mine became really unreliable soon after buying the phone, so I replaced it with a better (USB 3.1, even) cable and now it just works.

I'll rebuild when I get home, so that will include this fix.
Short note here, my Raspi server died on me again, so sorry for the dead links again. Buuut I'll be home soon, so I can get around fixing the Pi and the downloads will be up again just in time for a new build.
Enjoying the new build so far! Pretty good for me.

Hi
I have a Honor 5X (kiwi / KIW-L21) as my daily driver and as its nearing the end of it warranty (2 years) its starting to run slower (good job, Huawei). Given this and the fact that during these two years i never received ANY update apart from an update to android 6.0.1 from android 5, im considering switching to LOS 16.
The thing is im completely new to custom ROMs, recovery, phone rooting and that jazz and im a bit scared.
I wanted to know if there is a way I can try out LOS 16 (say for example on a VM) to be sure that i like it before installing.
If not, would I be able to restore my phone back to its current OS in case i dont like LOS and want to fall back to EMUI ?
PS : I wanted to try it out on an older phone I have and for which i dont care as much, but its not supported :'( Its an Asus Zenfone go ZB552KL
Thanks in advance !
The oldphone approach is a good idea. Go to a recycling place and grab some old Motorola or Samsung phones. Broken screen is OK.

My local trash collecting place isn't very open to people who want to take stuff (yes, what a nonesense) but i'll try that i guess. The thing is we have like 3 or 4 old phones but none of them are listed as compatible on the LOS website

You don't need official. Search XDA and you will find unofficial lineageOS for many old phones. https://twrp.me/Devices/ is a good place to find the phone's code name. With that you can check stats.lineageos.org for popular ROM versions.
Will give it a look, thanks.
If nothing usefull comes out of this investigation and I end up doing it on my 5X, is there a way for me to backup the whole phone (i mean not just data, like the whole OS) that way I can fall back to its current state if something goes wrong / i dont like LOS ?

To be honest, there's various ways for backing up a whole device but, there's limited (possibly no) choices that all depends upon the device itself and the capabilities of said device. So there's no real way of answering this question without, also, taking under consideration that what works for one may/may not work for another.
With that stated...
I've always found that the only way to know if I like something as huge as updating the Custom Android version Firmware, is to "Hope for the Best and Prepare for the Worse".
I've been successful with Restoring TWRP Backups made but, have always had an (approximately) 50% +/- of a restoration working without any issues (a chance of requiring a fresh installation in the end).
In another words...
The only "recommended" way to upgrade/downgrade the LineageOS Android Versions is to make sure you have everything on hand for performing a fresh installation for both the upgrading and the downgrading of both Android Versions.
For anyone to guide you any other way should (ethically) be able to provide you with guidance in case something goes wrong in the process (of said guidance) with your specific device.
You should also ask for support and guidance within the LineageOS thread and, if needed, somewhere within the Device Dedicated Area of the forum that's specific to your device. This will help locate assistance from those who has your device as well.
For example...
[ROM][9.0.x] LineageOS 16.0 Official (kiwi) [NO VoLTE] by BadDaemon
[ROM] [9.x] LineageOS 16.0 Pie Unofficial for Honor 5x (kiwi) by coldhans
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x
I hope that I had explained this okay via text...
I wish you the best of luck!

Hi there, thanks for the answer and sorry for the delayed reaction, I was busy
I will investigate on the linked threads and see what I want to do after that. My main concern being fingerprint sensor gestures (I know, stupid habits lol) asking on the kiwi forum is definitely a good idea. I recently purchased an tab S4 just an update from my previous Samsung tablet. I was wondering is there more ROMs for this tablet or ROMs currently in development? I noticed theres like 2 ROMs for this tablet. I have a note 8 and I'm currently running deluxerom on and it, and I really enjoy the tweaks and customization I'm able to do. I was looking for a same kind of feature for my tablet. Would greatly appreciate the answers I'm looking for. Thanks!

Pretty much zero support. You can get a few 9.0 GSI ROMs to boot, but they all have issues. Mine has been sitting around since it was purchased while still using my old 2014 model.

I had thought the same thing, but it seems the S3 is the last tablet to get real support.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development
Some of the ones for 9 will work, but most features won't work too well, if at all.
You might be able to get another rom to work, I know I had no luck. Even trying ones with similar hardware, they all failed to even flash since the booting numbers are different.
Kind of have to be satisfied with Samsung, half baked custom roms or sell the thing.

Hey Veekay I tried it and you're right unfortunately I came across the same issue as you brother
Now I'm stuck and I need help sorting my device out, was wondering if you knew this issue or could help?
When I got the stock firmware back and then when I flash TWRP with odin after going into TWRP I get 0mb as internal
so when I format and then go back into my load up the screen after SAMSUNG says "verification failed" and then reset
on the bottom. I tried other options as well. Without even wiping on TWRP the devices boots up into the setup wizard for the firmware fine
but after I wipe TWRP so I can get access to my internal drive my samsung boots into that verification reset screen. Got any clue as to how I can
resolve this issue? Thanks a bunch!

Yup, its unfortunate that there isn't much community support for this device. The Tab S4 is Project Treble supported and a few GSI ROMS do work. But as others have said they are unstable and not for use as a daily driver. We have a few discussion threads here talking about them.

you can install a Gsi rom, with two ways
Via TWRP, or Via Fastboot : https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/ (Tab S4 is a-only arm64)
for any other question, it is better to ask in the thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...vice-development/aosp-9-0-phh-treble-t3831915

You are going to have to just wipe it and start over from square one, unless you made a TWRP backup before starting all of this.
Download and flash the latest stock rom from recovery and then you can load twrp again.
I was looking at the possibility of using GSI's on some devices, and while they can offer new life to older devices, they're not entirely stable all the time unless you're willing to make your own changes. I know Lineage has made some excellent progress, but it's not fullproof yet and I wouldn't try it unless you're willing to not use your device as a daily use device.
I had an extra T-Mobile Revvlry which is basically a rebranded Moto g7 Play that I installed the Lineage GSI image and it works fairly well. However, this is more the exception to the rule and Moto devices, I feel, are far simpler in design vs certain Samsung devices. It also had a ton of trial and error involved for me to get it up and running properly.
Is it possible as the s4 becomes older, more people buy it and Samsung stops releasing official updates that someone will come along and create a ROM for it? Or is it more like Samsung locked the bootloaders and its close to impossible to write a ROM for it? Is it still possible to root the s4?

Someone did mention that the LOS 16.0 and ArrowOS GSI's work alright but are a bit buggy.

samsung, maybe at the end of july to give the upgrade to android 10....it is very likely to happen I think
yes,all Gsi Roms still have various problems unfortunately...
my opinion is: stay to stock rom for now....you can "uninstall" many applications if you want & without root, via "samsung package disabler"(paid) from playstore, or with this way:
https://beebom.com/how-remove-bloatware-android-without-root/
also, you can Install "NiceLock Downloader Companion App" ,to add some features on your device : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/themes/nicelock-module-download-links-module-t3923844
with this way I operate my device until now..

The OnePlus 9 pro is good for customizing!
@Evon88, the fact is, TWRP hasn't been updated to properly support Android 12, at least not on the 9 Pro, and I'm beginning to suspect that it never will be. IMHO, it looks to me like encryption and other issues introduced by Google have simply gotten the best of the TWRP team. I'll be happy to be proven wrong, and will be pleasantly surprised if TWRP is updated to work with Android 12 and above, but right now, that remains in the realm of wishful thinking.
The good news is that the recoveries included with most Android 12 ROMs (based on the AOSP recovery) are functional, and are capable of doing the minimum work of flashing new ROMs and upgrades (i.e. Magisk and Gapps) just like TWRP. They certainly don't have the wealth of features that TWRP has (such as the ability to wipe only the data partition without erasing the media partition; it's either all or nothing), but then, they weren't designed to have them. I keep hoping that someone will take the AOSP recovery and use it as a base for a recovery that includes more of TWRP's features. (I'd do it if I had the knowledge. I'm knowledgeable enough to poke at AOSP and cherry pick features to create a custom ROM, but the intimate knowledge required to work with the recovery code is something I don't have.)

You can in fact install and boot TWRP. But you can't do almost anything in it... But this isn't OP9P problem but every phone with Android 12 and encryprion enabled. But as other said, TWRP isn't needed for flashing custom ROMs.

Don't let lack of twrp hold you back. It's a fun phone. I use it for gaming (CODM) on Android 11.2.10.10 just fine. I may end up flashing an old build of crDroid for Android 11 but I'm pretty happy with how everything is set up on regular OOS now and don't want to lose L1 and start back over.

The tmobile variant is still for sale on ebay at $469 brand new in the box or from OnePlus directly (also Tmo variant) for $499

There's a user/team on the >OnePlus 6 & 6T forums<, that has had success with Android 12 and 13 decrypt, I use it on my 6T, and decrypt works flawlessly, I use it to flash Magisk when changing/updating ROMs.
It's Unofficial however, I hope it trickles to other devices.

All of them are made in china and I think will be good quality OnePlus phone. I don't know if they use anything different (except rom). You can change from colorOS to oxygenOS

Needed, maybe not. Desired, definitely. It can do a lot of things that the stock and AOSP recoveries simply can't (to name just one: it can wipe data without wiping storage, as I mentioned above; stock/AOSP recoveries' "factory reset" wipe destroys everything).

I was on LE2127_11_C20 A12 with tarp and root.......the mail reason it worked was no lock screen security. I did try with setting a password is be cause a script to try and make partitions R/W but that put me in a bootloader loop. Went back to 11.2.9.9..

The Indian variant has dual SIM. Maybe some others variants, too.
