n00b with a cheap PDA

Okay, Im a n00b at this, im not scared to admit, i am a TOTAL noob!
And i got an Acer n50 for christmas and im bored of WM2003se already. Ive looked everywhere and i see storys of people upgrading to wm2005 with some tools or summin but im too scared to use any, is there a SIMPLE way to upgrade my N50, OR is there a good alternative OS to WM.

HD arrives on wednesday lets get it sorted!

Right at last im finally getting my Touch HD on wednesday after months of drooling over it.
all i want to know is this.
what do you guys suggest a noob like me should do to the bad boy, im talking apps, themes etc.
so much i dont understand just trawling through the forum. so please clue me in. whats the best and essential apps i must have? whats the differences between the ROMS and how hard are they to impliment.

before any bashes me for not searching, i did search and nothing really came up.
my cousin rooted my phone over the weekend but wont show me how to use or do anything with it because hes a d*ck.
so im wondering if anyone can either point me in the right direction or tell me what cool and useful things i can now do with my g1 since its rooted, and how.
sorry for the stupid question but im having trouble finding answers on my own. thanks for the help.
