Anyone know how to voice dial on the desire, doesn't seem to be any button combination that allows voice dialing ?
Surely they have not missed this out ?
If they have missed it out any good apps like MSVC but on the android platform ?
Thanks
This is a good find! On the G1 you hold the call button, but I don't know how it works with no dedicated call button.
How about this?

$4, not bad if you really like it.
There is free version though:

Did see this but does not work on the desire. The first link is close but it appears there is no way to voice dial with a bluetooth headset. Really dont know why this has been missed out of any release as it a well used feature.
Thanks for the info anyway, i am sure eventually it will be included, maybe in another rom update.
Does it work if you press and hold the on-screen send key in the dialer app?
This thread on Android forums suggests the function was available on earlier HTC phones:

No that doesn't do anything. I've just tried the free version of ChoiceDialer and so far it seems very good. I am in a very quiet environment so I want to test it out in noisier areas before I decide whether to get the paid version.
Damn! That's disappointing! It's one of those features I never even bother to look for. These days I assume all phones would have this function.
Good to see there is an app that can do voicedialing. WOuld be interedted in hearing your thoughts after a couple of days use.
Get "Choice Dialer" from the Market. Great program, IMO.
Paid for the full version of Choice Dialler. Love it! I can say 'Play music from ..' and name one of my playlists or albums and it starts playing it. For me so far it worksabout 70 to 80% of the time and I don't have to use a US accent even though the developer confirmed to me it is designed for US voice recognition.
One bug for me though and that is I have to disable the ability to find individual song tracks. It says I have too many but at the moment I have only installed 367! The developer is trying to find the problem but it would be helpful to know if anyone else with the paid version has a similar problem. (Searching for music isn't available on the free version.)
if you have the desire you can go to the voice search app and say "dial so and so _________ insert name" that should work for the voice dial it is already preinstalled so you don't need to pay anything hope this helps you guys
New voice search does it. You have to select us accent in the settings tho. Hold search button, then say call name mobile/home. Done. Works with my eastern European accent LOL

But there is no way to do ir over BT
Just posting my general frustration with this.
Just got a HTC desire. My ancient Ericsson would do this and not a so called smart phone. Voice dial via Bluetooth is essential for in car calls.

I couldn't agree more. This is a high end device and this feature ought to be included and be 100% reliable. What were they thinking? Apple made the same mistake with the first iPhone, you'd think Google would have learnt from it. It's a pathetic omission.

Sorry but i cant find any settings to disable google and enable contacks ...........any help?
Is the Desire missing Google voice search? I can't seem to find how to access / enable it at all. My girlfriends Motorola Dext has it, and it's quite nifty. Perhaps I'm just being blind, but I can't figure it out!!
Cheers,

I havent recieve my HTC desire yet, so havent had chance to play with it. Anyway I found the following:
http://nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/04/add-voice-search-to-htc-phones/
Dont know if they work great or not. I believe I have read somewhere here, that it works ok.
It's not natively installed but that works very well. Keep the search button pressed and the voice prompt will show up and it recognizes most common words I've yet asked of it and additionally Google also then returns accurate results.

There we go. Perfect. THanks very much
Wanna shed some light on this whole V2T.
I sent an email to HTC. Got the following answer:
Thanks for your email.
No, the desire does not have VOice to text, but as you can see from that website, it is supposed to.
We are currently working with the developers to find out what happened. We don;t know why it was removed, or whether it was done purposefully or by accident, and investigating what we need to do to get it back.
I am sure it will be released as an update in the very near future, but at present it is missing from HTC SEnse.
I apologise for the mixup and can assure you that it is supposed to be there and we are working on it now.
Best regards,

Voice dialling on HTC Desire
Right then, this is what i need, can anyone point me in the right direction, and if you offer me advice id very much appreciate it being proven and tested to work as im new here and dont yet know my a from my elbow. I need an application that will allow me to speak a command such as dial number and then it will allow me to dial a number that is not stored anywhere on the phone. there is an app called choice dialler but its not good, in so far as it wont let me dial UK numbers and only stores 10 digits, which Uk numbers arent!!! I rather get the impression this app was designed for our american brethren as it accepts 911 but never heard of 999. When i try to call a uk number i try by sayiing "Dial, plus 44, followed by the number but it only works 1 time out of a hundred and i do mean that literally.. Anyone help me please, woud be appreciated, as am on the road 99 per cent of the day and cant have a handsfree kit installed as in mostly a different car every day....
I'm looking for a voice dialler aswell. I think it may need a seperate post to get some info.

Well actually, install the Voice Search apk and it gives you google search with voice but additionally, if you hold down the search hardware button it searches google as well without going to the app BUT if you hold it and say for example "call <persons name> mobile" it will actually call them. Is that not good enough?
On a side note, it recognises my voice great!
So I am looking for an app to make one of my phones more like an IPhone. No, no really... well not exactly. I actually do want to take away much of the coolness of android and limit the options, much like a crappy Iphone.
I want to be able to lockdown a phone to certain apps. But not in a "kiddie" type of way. And I want to be able to include direct dial shortcuts. But I want to lock or effectively remove everything else that is not and "approved" app.
All the apps I have seen rely on a password that is on all the existing app. So all the options are still there, but have a password. I want to remove the outside options. And I think it has to be a home replacement in that it has to control the notification area too. All of the lock down apps also seem to not be able to stop the play updates and then you can get into the app from the "updated" notification.
So I want the screen to have like 10 direct dial number shortcuts, a few games and that is all with no way (without effort and knowledge) to get to all the other goodness that is android.
Why not lock (password-protect or whatever) Play Store and Disable auto-updates?
Is this possible? Can the setting/service be activated without allowing Google to snoop on my location? Every time I try using that selection, I get a message saying this will send anonymous location info to Google if I agree. If I disagree, it will not allow the setting to activate. Total BS! The few threads floating around here don't really answer this question so here we are. Please tell me there is a way to override that BS Google Agreement.
Forgot to list my particulars - D85120e LG G3, stock (debloated), and rooted.
Hello, all.
When I use Google Assistant on my Huawei Watch 2 and include personal information (e.g. "Take me home."), it gives me the following error message:
Actually, I need permission before I can answer personal questions about you. To change your settings, just open the Google Home app on your phone. Once that's done, ask me again!

This started happening maybe a month back or so. I know that I was able to ask personal questions at first when I got the watch. I have tried looking through the settings on the Google Home app, but I haven't found anything relevant. The watch doesn't even show up as a device alongside my Google Homes, Chromecast, and phone.
I originally had a Nexus 6P, and I recently upgraded to a Pixel 2 XL. I don't know if that has anything to do with what's happening, but I would find that pretty strange. I'm not sure exactly when this started happening, so I don't know if there's any correlation between changing phones and this issue. I just checked, and the watch says the system is up-to-date, and all installed apps are up-to-date.
I was hoping that an update would be pushed to the watch that would fix this, but it's been a long time, and I still have the same issue.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Lets try...
Hi,
lets try the following method:
In your Google App on your Smartphone go to Settings -> Accounts & Privacy -> Google Activity Controls
What does it show here?
Is it the right E-Mail-Address?
If you want to use personalized orders, Google needs to track your information. E.g if you want to say "show me the home rout", it has to analyze, where your home is.
As far as I know, Google does this by checking, where your phone is (via GPS) most of the time - but thats just an idea.
Hope I could help you!

Hello.
I just checked, and the email is correct. All of the options are set to "On."
I guess I should add that when I tell my phone to take me home, that still works fine. Also, my Google Homes know where my work is. So, it shouldn't be an issue where Google isn't able to query for that personal information. I have that enabled for my account. But for some reason, I can't do it from my watch.
Any clue yet?
Did anybody figure out how to fix this?
Many others have posted the exact same problem.
