I want to use the Root call blocker app which requires root access.
HTCdev instructions for root emphasise that 'OEM unlock' should be ticked in developer options before proceeding further. This option is not shown in my developer options screen & when I look at the bootloader screen the top item shows **LOCKED**
I guess this is why OEM unlock isn't shown.
I'm a complete novice & my only reason to root (so far....) is to use that particular call blocker. I have called HTC & they don't seem to know what i'm talking about...they think i'm asking how to get into developer options screen! Any help will be appreciated & explanations in simple terms also
Ah.. you don't reply in other thread but you open a new one.. and I asked moderator to move this to Q&A section.
Why don't you use any call blocker apps that don't require root access ? There are many of them on Play Store.
Anyway .. to root your M8, you need :
1. unlock the bootloader thru http://www.htcdev.com/
2. install TWRP recovery
3. install SuperSU.zip

Hi, Thanks for reply & sorry for posting in wrong section earlier.
The reason I want to use 'root call blocker' is because unlike other such apps it doesn't use the ring & hang up or divert to voicemail method. It kills the call completely & as such avoids the single ring scam which has just started to affect some phones here....mostly Vodaphone users. As yet no one is sure how the scam works but the victims are left with huge phone bills & have never called the number itemised on the bill. So......that's why I want to use that app.
Regarding Htcdev.....I have registered with them, having researched them as probably being the safest for someone with no experience & it is the reason for this post as I quote below step 2 of their instructions
''Step 2
Use the Volume buttons to select up or down. Highlight Fastboot and press the Power button.
NOTE: All new HTC devices shipped since One M9 support download mode instead of bootloader mode for this step. And for select HTC devices with Android Lollipop and all devices that receive Marshmallow, you will need to first manually enable OEM unlocking in Developer options in order to allow the bootloader to be unlocked and proceed with the next steps.''
The reason I can't proceed is because my device does not show the option for OEM unlocking....yes I do know how to get to developer options.
I have tried all the ''one click root'' methods & they haven't worked........so......any help?
There is no OEM UNLOCKING on HTC M8, only certain/newer devices have that.
In step 2, they explain how to get to fastboot screen. If your current screen show hboot (highlighted in blue) -- press power once to get to fastboot screen
As long as your screen now is showing fastboot usb (highlighted in red) when connected to PC .. you can proceed to step 5 to run command

Living in the UK, I know practically nothing about Sprint devices, however the bootloader OEM unlock option (in developer settings) you refer to, as far as I'm aware is only found on recent-ish Nexus devices.
I have it on my Nexus 9 tablet for example, and apparently it's also on the Nexus 6P phone.
I've never heard of it on non-Nexus devices.

The way I unlocked my M8 bootloader, was by registering an account with HTCdev.com and I requested a bootloader unlock token, which is a tiny file emailed back to you as an attachment (full instructions are given at HTCdev.com).
This file/token is then incorporated into the fastboot OEM unlock command.
Sorry if all this is a little vague, but this is something I did back in July of last year, so my recollection of the precise details are a little hazy.
And as I've indicated, I know nothing about Sprint devices so this procedure may not be available to you.

The HTC developer site can be a bit off putting as the instructions are as follows:
"To access the OEM unlocking setting on your device, open the Developer options in the system Settings. On Android 4.2 and higher, the Developer options screen is hidden by default. To make it visible, go to Settings > About > Software information > More and tap Build number seven times. Return to the Settings screen to find Developer options and check OEM unlocking."
That last bit is not there. Just ignore OEM unlocking. I found that getting the token and using it was not explained that well either. The phone has to be at the bootloader. Press the power button with the fastboot option selected and then the usb cable attached. Then just leave it and follow the instruction on the HTCDev site
To get the token key in windows 10 it's probably easier to use the powershell (click start button and type in Powershell to find it. Right click with mouse and select 'Run as administrator') rather than a command prompt, as you can 'mark' the text you want only - and not all the line headers. After selecting press ctrl-c to copy it and paste into the box on the HTC web page.

I'm just doing the same with an HTC ON M8 from UK too, with Android 6.
I have no idea what to do, and yes you are right the OEM unlock is not in the menu.
I didn't really follow what I am meant to do from your comments though? Can you help?
I have downloaded the HTC dev thing and am downloading the SDK devools and the fastboot .exe but dont really know what I am meant to do with them1

This phone never had the option (nor the requirement to do so) in Settings for OEM unlocking. It was introduced by Google in later Android builds.
In short, you won't see it on the Settings menu (as you already mentioned) and you therefore do NOT need to activate it. Basically, you don't need to do anything in Settings to unlock the bootloader.
Just go through the bootloader unlocking process as outlined in HTCDev.com skipping the part about OEM unlocking (or use guides on XDA for the M8) and it will unlock.
Thanks I finally got the token to work through a few things.
I used this guys video and Windows Powershell needed to use a .\ BEFORE the fastboot commands to make things work...

Right off you need to go and setup an account with Xiaomi.

After you have verified your account go to your account and fill in the Security ,Personal ,and Account page till the green bar at the top makes it across to 100 points.(not sure if this is necessary but i got my bootloader unlocked before my buddy did and he didnt fill anything out.)
Now on your phone go to Settings, and under accounts sign in with your MI account you just made.
Then back to the settings menu. Scroll up to 'About Phone'. Enter that menu and find 'MIUI version'. Tap it until you activate the developer settings menu.
Go back to the main settings menu and scroll down to the 'System and Device' section. Tap the '... Additional Settings' menu and scroll down to find 'Developer Options'.
Slide the first switch to enable ' Developer options'.
Then slide the 'OEM unlocking' switch about 5x to get it to stay on.
Now switch on 'USB Debugging' , 'Install via USB' ,and 'USB Debugging'.
Now go to the link below and apply for your bootloader to be unlocked.

Click the 'Unlock Now' button. Then you will be prompted to sign into your MI account.
Now you should be at this screen.
Click the 'Download Mi Unlock' button and download the file. It should be call something along the lines of "Mi-flash_Unlock".

Extract that file into its own folder. Then run the 'miflash_unlock' program that has the orange icon. Sign in with your MI account.
*Before you plug your phone in turn off wifi and enable mobile data. Connect phone and follow instructions. This will not unlock the bootloader . It does put you on a counter till when you can. Itll be anywhere from 48 to 120 hours.
(backup your data before unlocking, you phone will flash if bootloader is unlocked)
When the wait time is up disable wifi and turn mobile data on . Now you return to the developers options and find 'MI Unlock status' option. Now choose it and you will need to sign in again with your MI account. After a few 'ARE YOU SURE?' prompts the phone will try to get permission to unlock. You will get an approval or a fail.
If you are approved turn your phone off. Connect USB ,hold vol down and power and keep holding till you see the fastboot screen.
When you have permission to unlock the bootloader you may asked to download a new version of the 'Mi_Unlock' software.
Assuming you did this is when you run it. If your account is in order and if all goes well you will unlock the bootloader. Surprise your phone gets flashed too.
And now you are ready for whenever that magic day TWRP is released for this phone and we can finally let this beast out of its cage.

I have a metropcs Oneplus nord n100 I'm trying to access the the bootloader but oem option in developer mode is greyed out. Also i don't own a pc is there any way i can unlock.bootloader without a pc?

Carrier-locked devices generally do not have unlockable bootloaders, or at the very least until 6 months has passed for a SIM unlock in the case with Metro going by how T-Mobile handled bootloader unlocking with the OnePlus 6T. However, that's unconfirmed and I could not find any information on either carrier-locked models for the N100 regarding this matter. So for now, it's a dead end.
yes I'm having the same issue here with the be2015 metropcs variant. They're saying 180 days (6months) till able to unlock this phone. I've been searching for some sort of way around it but no lock as of yet. Please everyone keep us all updated just in case.

Yeah, that tuturial in the other post that the mod locked, he also deleted the commands. I'm guessing there's an issue that xda doesn't want to be involved in, kinda like writing new imei's. So I guess we're kinda screwed.
I bought this phone cheap, €117 at a discount. And Its EU version, where I can unlock the oem bootloader on this phone.
You can enable OEM unlock in Debug menu with debloat until from girhub, but you cannot unlock bootloader in metro phones.
Even if you have got unlock token, OnePlus says that's imei failed.
So is there any way to unlock this phone from carrier?

if it's metro, it has the unlock app on it; still have to be paid up and 180 days in on your account, though

Bugjaeger Premium actually allows you to use an OTG Connection, (Android-->Android), that enables A Real connection via ADB/Fastboot.
So for all those that have no PC, but have two devices, it is possible to use one to run the ADB or Fastboot consoles and run authentic commands. I use it all the time since a desktop isn't so portable.
It takes a little thinking when it comes to the directories used, but I've easily ran Fastboot oem unlock and flashing commands before on the go

Tell you the truth, I was in the process of switching out SD Cards in the BE2015 and while I had the SIM/Tray out I saw that the developer options allowed the OEM Unlock toggle to be switched....
The option greyed itself back out once the sim was reinserted, but, I was able to toggle the switch ON before it did all that.
And even greyed out the option remains switched ON now.

My pixel 3 xl doesn't let me turn on oem unlocking, which I need in order to unlock bootloader. It says that I need to connect to the internet or contact my carrier service provider. Is there any fix to this or any way to bypass this and enable bootloader?
Most likely it is a verizon phone. Open chrome, see the URL in google.com, it should have "verizon" in the GET parameters
