for instance on home screen how do you remove the google search box?
got pixel 6 pro off amazon renewed it looks perfect except i looks like their is clear sticker over camera area? is it supposed to be there and if not how do i remove it without messing up the area?
You can't remove the search box by settings (not sure if there's a root mod for that)
Sticker shouls just come off, it's just a scratch guard for during packaging i believe.
i picked at it it seems to be on there but good but it does look like piece of clear plastic over it
Zoom in you can see edge on right side 100%, but is it supposed to be there or no? i picked at it with my fingernails, it doesnt budge so dont want to mess with it and then it turns out wasnt supposed to be removed
Not sure mine doesn't have it now, and i seem to remember a sticker/protector but i got mine day one so maybe i remember incorrectly
Might be a camera screen protector that wasn't removed.
Hi all, I got mine from EE UK December 2021. I always assumed it was a camera screen protector. Mine is identical to yours @leo5111
I tried removing it when I first got it but considering it wasn't easy, I left it as is. If you do end up finding out that it's not supposed to be there, I'll be completely embarrassed as it's being nearly a year. Photo quality and video is great. I've also used it for 2 months in a really hot climate (40C+) and I had no issues, so I can only assume it's mean to be there.
anyones have a display film on the display looks invisible but its there? there is a light scratch on front of mine after i got it and i have no idea where it happpened if it did thats BS because my note 20 ultra has ZERO marks on it after MONTHS of usage

No on display film either, i really think what you're describing are packaging but not being around the physical device i can't be sure and don't want you taking off something that shouldn't be
well they put a display that scratches super easy then, pretty much every cellphone ive had if it had no display scratches when i got it, it had none when i sold it...this pisses me off

I assume you mean pixel 6 and not nexus 6 (a completely different phone). No they don't logo to my knowledge i think the way to check is the imei number (or if you can toggle oem unlock in developer settings).
yes pixel 6 pro...ooops...lol
hmm oem unlocking is greyed out does that mean carrier locked? or just means bootloader is locked?

Flipping that switch is the first step towards bootloader unlock and root. I'd check imei number but sounds like it's a carrier phone to me (not google unlocked version).
I think att and tmobile can bootloader and carrier unlock after a certain amount of time on their network . Verizon you need to be on their network for a certain amount of time to carrier unlock but will never be bootloader unlocked
well funny thing is verizon and att and tmobile all do not complain when i do imei check they all say your good sign up
No the imei should tell you whether its a Verizon or not, not just is it stolen or not.
i mean to sign up with att/verizon/tmobile they all say come on down would it not say not compatible if the imei was locked to a carrier?
i talked to google they said locked to verizon but a cricket sim works fine in it...so WTF...lol

I'm buying a used (2 week old) ZL tomorrow night.
Aside from physical damage, as well as placing a phone call with my SIM card, what is it I should be looking for? Can I access some sort of menu to see if it's legit, stolen, etc..?
It is locked to my carrier, so it being unlocked or not doesn't matter..
I've never bought a phone from outside of a retail store..

I checked; Amazon wants $650 for the device.. this guy wants $300 for practically new.. 2 weeks old is still considered new in my books..

Check everything in there.
Few things you should consider check for black dot/dead pixels on camera, Mic and speaker during a phone call with noice suppression checked, IR blaster reading ability, most of cases it wont work it doesnt matter if you dont care about reading ability. other than that i don think anything can be there. and also check for bootloader status using above service number.
The bold text scares me - is there a lot of defective devices with the black dot and dead pixels on the camera reported? Do I just snap a picture of something white, like a piece of paper, review on the device for black pixels or off colour pixels?
As for the mic/speaker, just a simple phone call to the seller or a friend and confirm that it sounds decent? (get the caller to call my phone, so I can confirm, then swap phones)

I wouldnt worry to much if I was you. Just use common sense, like you said make sure theres no physical damage, that phone calls work good and sound quality is good. One thing I would verify is if the seller knows what root is, if he does then you want to confirm your bootloader status. I dont know if its important to you but some bootloaders cannot be unlocked and therefore you cannot flash custom kernels. If his bootloader is set to "bootloader unlock allowed: Yes" then make sure you Bravia Engine is still working. Maybe he simply relocked it but he never saved the TA before he unlocked it the first time which will cause your Bravia Engine to go out the window. That would be a deal breaker.
But honestly, I bought 3 used/new phones (only a few weeks old) and never had a problem. Most people dont know what root is anyway so phone will be stock. My last used phone was an Xperia T and the guy didnt even know how to do a factory reset before giving it to me.
To check the bootloader status, type *#*#7378423#*#* in the dialer and then navigate to Service Info >> Configuration
Good luck, the ZL is a great phone if you ask me!

My 21 month old VS985 crapped out 4 days ago. I believe it's an issue with the digitizer. The screen just stopped turning on altogether. When I tried it out again the next day, I discovered that sometimes when I let it sit for a while and cool down, I'll be able to turn the screen on for 10 - 60 seconds. After that, the screen freezes and slowly glitches/fades out. But it's only able to turn on sometimes. Sometimes the screen just won't do anything at all. That's the only thing wrong with it though, I've been able to use it with TeamViewer or by casting my screen to my TV.
(Any advice for replacing the digitizer will be very appreciated, even though that's not the point of this thread. Has anybody here done it? Is it necessary to remove the screen, or can I replace the entire screen/digitizer assembly? I tried to replace the broken screen of my Galaxy S3 a few years back and it was a complete disaster, because after I spent several minutes trying to heat up the glue with a hair-dryer and pry the screen off, I ended up just making the entire screen shatter much more into a billion little shards. All of which obviously destroyed the digitizer as well. Sigh.)
...
Anyway, none of that is the point of this thread. To replace the phone, I bought another LG G3 on ebay. It was listed a brand new, factory unlocked black 32GB VS985 for $175. The seller has 99.9% positive feedback (3 negative points out of 2,827) and the phone did indeed come sealed in the factory OEM box, with all of the accessories and everything. It's definitely brand new.
However, before I give the seller feedback, I want to make sure the phone is actually factory unlocked. Because if it's not, I will likely contact the seller and request a partial refund for a portion of my money on account of the item not being exactly as described.
The description of the listing says, "Brand New LG G3 Verizon 4G LTE Smartphone Factory Unlocked" and further down it also says, "ESN's Are Clear and Can Be Activated on Your Verizon Line, They Are Also GSM Unlocked to Use With AT&T, Cricket, Straight Talk, Metro Pcs, and More."
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't "factory unlocked" mean the device will work on all the major US carriers? Or does it mean it will only work on the carriers who share the same bands that are built into the LG G3? I don't know much about the technical side of this subject at all, so a little advice/correction would be really nice from you guys. It'll be a bit disappointing if the phone doesn't work with Sprint or T-Mobile, etc, but I'll live. I just want to make sure the seller described the item accurately before I leave him (otherwise well-deserved) positive feedback.
Thanks for reading!

Did you do anything to enable oem unlocking?
Nothing out of the ordinary. Loaded os WiFi on, no sim , dev options enabled oem unlocking then fastboot commands. It does in my opinion disprove that it's because of the imei not being 99 though

My only issue is, I don't see that it's a 35 imei. Pics don't show it. Of course. No need for full imei, but definitely would love to see that it is a Verizon model. I know my pixel 3 is a Verizon one, and when I got it, before I even popped my sim in, I was unable to even toggle the switch. They didn't have one pre-installed in this one, I put my sim from my old phone in after it was still greyed. Had it on my wife's Wi-Fi for 30 Min before giving up
I get that and if you want private message me I'll give you my number and send whatever needed to unlock these if it's here.

What country are you in? I know that some devices in Europe can be unlocked after a certain period of time, I think 6 months or after you've paid off the contract. Something along those lines. Perhaps the IMEI are different outside the US? Nonetheless, did you buy it as a Verizon branded device either from Best Buy, Google or Verizon? If you bought it from Verizon then I'd say you got lucky as mentioned above. But suffice it to say you have done nothing that hasn't been tried hundreds of times.
USA, and I agree about it probably being luck of the draw however it is a proof of concept that it can be done. This is a Verizon branded device. Was a warranty but in store and still in the sealed box without a sim in it.
My personal feeling is there's a fastboot command that is fastboot oem rma that sets the trigger for it. They have to be able to unlock them during the RMA process for repairs right?

Where did you buy it? What do you mean by it was "a warranty"? In store sealed without a sim is extremely unusual if it was a brand new device. They all come with a Verizon sim in them afaik.
As for the fastboot rma commands, it's not necessarily the way they would do it. They could whitelist the IMEI temporarily, fastboot a factory image, then blacklist it again. Perhaps they forgot to blacklist yours. I'd say *very* lucky.
400 hours on the line with Verizon/Google I finally told them to give me a new one under warranty 5th one for various reasons and my final warranty according to them. I honestly don't think it was luck considering I even got a letter from corporate office (vzw) to cease and desist my contact with them regarding the bootloader they don't like it when you know their policies better then them and call them out for quoting policies out of thin air.
Hmm.. 400 hours? Might be time to close this thread. Sounds like a bunch of bull **** to me. Consider me trolled.

a proof of concept aka POC would mean you have process to unlock the bootloader which in this case you dont. You dont have any steps for anyone to replicate it nor do you know exactly how it was possible which means no poc can exist.
just my 2 cents of course lol
Proof of trolled more like
Sounds like a jcbizsnatch kind of story.
Ok so here's the details... I speak to Sprint techs on a regular basis. (Used to work for Sprint many years ago). And according to them it's true that Sprint Pixel 3 and 3XL are not locked in any abnormal way that a simple Fastboot command will unlock them like normal. BUT if you have just purchased the phone and took advantage of the massive discount for leasing the phone , then you will be met with a Greyed out OEM UNLOCK just like Verizon and whoever else is locked. Only way to clear that and be able to switch OEM Unlock to on, is by paying the full remainder of your contract and they will unlock with an OTA. (I actually performed this on my friends 3XL so it's true). The question I'm asking is for people such as myself who didn't wanna cough up $700 , and took the 40% off if you sign up for 18mo lease. ... Is there anyone here who knows of a way to enable the OEM Unlock without Sprint Sim Unlocking it first?? The screen will tell you that "this option is unavailable on Network locked devices, consult your provider" ... Like is there a Z3x box, or Octoplus Box that can remove the network lock to flip that toggle? Fastboot will not accept any FLASH command without it being enabled. Or does someone know of a Shortcut master-style exploit to get me in the menu with the option being available?? Or hell is there a dirty network unlock even similar to the Carrier changing exploits from the Samsung phones that were Network locked... I searched here thoroughly and no one has mentioned it. Is there an ENGINEERING file for this phone ... For real .. I know it can be done but that's way above my pay grade.. any hints of a place to look.. something to flash.. I'm up for whatever .. I can brick this phone to **** and walk up to the counter and they will give me a new one.. so I'm not worried of possible errors... 50/50 is good enough success rate of any trick you may know. Thanks in advance
I'll do you one worse .. I had no clue until this evening that pixel 3 xl had more versions than Verizon and Google store . So one came up on one of those selling local apps and I checked to make sure the IMEI started with 99 and was clear.... Both were so this is great right??? I think the private Pyle staredown through the eyebrows before he goes insane in full metal jacket would properly describe my reaction as I find out I just purchased not only a locked bootloader pixel 3 XL but a network locked pixel 3 [email protected]#$%G XL...
I swear I'm done trying to pick through the different versions of Google's phones ... Just pony up the money and buy it from Google it's rediculous any other way .... So now what? Well I called Google support and sprint and got the usual go @#$® yourself run around ... So it's on me but a hard way to find out there are now network locked pixels out there ...... Unfortunately since it is a server side check/OTA to enable it there is no method currently to unlock the BL.

the sprint versions are abit different.. i was at sprint earlier snd checked em out.. the sprint p3xl says on the switch that it cannot be unlocked on carrier locked device or something rather..
vs. vzw i think says more along lines of connect to internet or contact carrier..
so maybe spr will get lucky and its tied to sim unlock vs. verizon being tied to imei?
also the spr versions have esim enabled too so they also got that goin for em at least
You could be right there. Unless the device is paid in full Sprint won't carrier unlock it, I think. At least that was how it was a few years back when I had Sprint.
Pixel 3 XL, haven't crashed it, YET
Well in the Sprint store they are setup so you can't mess with a bunch of stuff. I'm about to get one if y'all haven't done it yet.
Edit: So i got mine and its locked to sprint which is fine but i have to have it active for 50 days even though its not leased and technically not sprint's device. they have a promotion for a free line for employees for 12mo's so its just sitting. i got the pixel 4 and i like the 3xl better so im just testing the pixel 4 on my line but ill probably just switch back. too bad the pixel 4 is already bootloader unlocked.
Alright so I have the answers to everyone's question regarding the oem unlock. If you can get the carrier unlock completed you can oem unlock the phone. The downside is that there is some known issue and it requires Google to unlock it. I was working with Sprint for over 2 hours and then while on the phone with Sprint I did the chat with Google. It took 2 days and it just unlocked. I'm not sure if you need to have Sprint push the unlock first or what but that's it. Google did say there was a known issue on their end so this isn't something that's instant at the moment. Hopefully that helps everyone and I've explained everything.

I have a sprint pixel 3xl that I recently sim unlocked. The text below the greyed out oem unlock option previously said "unavailable on carrier locked devices", while it now says "please connect to wifi or contact your carrier". I am on Android 12 beta 2 and the carrier unlock was confirmed after a recent update form beta 1. Still can't unlock the Bootloader.
Hi everyone,
I've got smashed Galaxy Note 10+ from eBay, fixed it and found out that it has a kind of carrier change temporary lock. IMEI is clean, not blacklisted or anything. Technically the phone is unlocked and it fully works with my non-US carrier SIM card for around 5 min or so. But after that a ridiculous nonsense message about carrier change pops up and the phone becomes blocked. It looks like the phone is connecting by itself with Verizon servers, they detect other carrier SIM card and block GSM functionality. I flashed international U1 firmware already but it didn't help. Verizon tells some 60 day activation cap - the phone will be unlocked automatically after 60 days since Verizon account activation. Is there any way to fix it / block the phone from communicating with Verizon? I have no idea how long should I wait since the phone was wiped before sale.
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like the seller might have received an insurance replacement due to the damage. Maybe the phone is blocked by Verizon because it should have been disposed of and/or should no longer be used in their network. Just a guess.

That's just the way the network lock works.....you'll need to wait the 60 days...(probably closer to 30 now...but no way to know)
If you can't wait there are paid solutions that you can use... cell unlocking services.
No amount of firmware changing etc will have an effect on the network lock.....sorry.
Also i disagree with the other poster....sounds like you confirmed its not blacklisted....what you're experiencing is the typical network lock behavior.....pay or wait it out.
Btw any before and after pics?
What did you pay for smashed device? How much spent repairing?

I paid US$230 for smashed device, $320 for screen assembly with housing, $15 for back glass cover (haven't receive it yet), $40 for S-pen. Screen assembly is original despite being bought from AliExpress. It looks like brand new now. Just waiting for back cover and unlock.

This is why I like and dislike Samsung Galaxy flagships. Screen is always damn expensive but the possibility to fix completely smashed device is very high. Actually I repaired few Galaxies in much worse condition than that. At the same time, recently I had an iPhone XS Max with relatively light screen damage and was unable to repair it due to face ID failure (logic board fault). Cheers!

Just had one more conversation with Verizon. It seems that they're bloody dickheads! They claim the Verizon does not lock phones which is pure lie. And their temporary carrier lock system is a bloody mess. They're unable to manage it at all!!! Just look at my conversation history with Verizon support:
"We greatly appreciate this (IMEI) information, Victor. After further review, we do show that this IMEI is not currently showing a carrier lock to our network....
I know this is confusing and that you just want to get full use out of that phone. While we don't lock any locks on the phone, it is true that takes 60 days from sale of the phone for a phone to be unlocked. We would suggest that you get in contact with the seller of this phone and instruct them to get in contact with Verizon or alternately, reach out to the selling platform you used and your local carrier. Keep in mind also that Verizon sold phones are not guaranteed to work with other carriers. We would not be able to provide any further support beyond this. I hope this helps clarify and if you have any additional concerns, we are happy to help out. "

No, it's just a standard SM-N975U, not a Verizon branded one. Actually I was able to easily flash it into unlocked N975U1 version. But still that damn Carrier change message pops up and blocks GSM capability.

As I sad earlier, I had a chat with Verizon twice regarding this phone. They checked it by IMEI and told me that it is NOT SIM locked. This is the only useful piece of info I've got from them. Despite of that, they were unable to help me with that Carrier Change issue sending me to original owner / Verizon account holder of this phone. So it's not a carrier variant and not sim locked.

i think ur confused lol... if it was originally sold by verizon then it is a Verizon Variant..
and clearly you are sim locked as thats the exact message ypu get when its sim locked as well as you dont get service with the other carrier..
based on what u posted whoever you talked to has no idea what theyre talking about especially if theyre telling you they dont lock phones which meansthey also didnt even bother to look up their own policy for it and instead just made stuff up off the top of their head..
but hey, dont take my word for it.. it wont work as u need tho until vzw unlocks it or u pay for a service to unlock it.

Yes, I'm confused indeed. Confused by Verizon which says one thing but does other. They clearly said that "we don't lock our phones" but apparently they do it! Bloody bastards!
Did you manage to unlock the device?

No, I sold it. As I can see there is no unlocking solution right now. No hope that it will be available any time soon.
