Hey all, I installed Lineage on my Moto G 5G plus and have had awful call sound quality specifically on regular phone calls. Other video/voice apps' sound quality is crystal clear so it's not a hardware problem, but regular call audio sounds very compressed. This is both from my end and for other people I call.
I tried looking into the settings, I tried downloading other dialer apps off f-droid, but no dice. I have my APN set to my carrier's exact specifications.
I'm running Mint Mobile.
EDIT: Dialing #*#*4646*#*# and checking VoLTE status shows that it's on, yet still no HD calling icon appears during a call.

I've tried both GrooveIP and Talkatone, and both apps result in very quiet incoming audio. I have no complaints from the person on the other end hearing me, but I can barely hear them. Going into the settings of each program and boosting the speaker gain helps a little, but hinders audio quality. Even using the gain boost in each program has little effect on the earpiece volume (using the earpiece on the phone).
Is there another setting in either app or on the phone itself I might be missing? I am on an Epic 4G Touch running PhantomPhreak's CM10 ROM.

I found a solution. It seems odd, but I'm not complaining. It works. Using Talkatone, I went into the call settings and changed the "audio playback stream" from voice call to music. I noticed by changing this, it also deselected the hardware echo cancellation. It's odd changing this setting makes callers go from nearly inaudible because the sound is so quiet to being nearly like a normal non-wifi call. If I had to guess, the Epic 4g touch has no hardware echo cancellation or it isn't compatible with Talkatone if it does. In any case, I'm happy I can use wifi calling and finally hear the other person.
We finally have our watches updated with the long waited 1.4 internal speaker enable firmware.
I was so excited to side-load the update to my watch and seeing the new features activated, but with more usage to the watch/phone (note5) I started getting frustrated.
Phone calls cannot be received (heard or voice out) from phone if bluetooth (Play phone audio on watch) is selected. (unlike my previous iWatch)
2nd flaw is the strange behaviour using Facebook messenger calling when audio is diverted to watch, but this time the calls fail.
I thought i would see if its only me facing this, is it the combination of my phone/ watch misfit? or its the update?
I have already factory reset my watch, to no avail.
Please share your experiences guys.
For me this works super cool, no problem. Speaker is very loud and clear. I use it 50% volume at home, whitch is enough.

When you accept phone call on a phone voice is automatically directed through phone's earpiece. When you accept it on the watch, voice goes through the watch.
You can also switch voice direction during call using button having BT icon within in-call screen. This is how it works for me on Nexus 5x and I find it quite consistent.

Unfortunately answering the call from the screen doesn't activate the ear speaker in my case, but I can activate the loud speaker!

Answering the call from the watch screen will answer on the watch. To me that is as expected. If you want to answer it on the phone use the phone to answer instead of watch.

I guess it's dependent on a device type, Android version it is running and most importantly a dialer app that it is running.
I can imagine devices having custom dialer supplied by a vendor that significantly differs from the standard Android one could yield different results.
Anybody else encountered FB messenger crash?
I'm facing very serious problems while trying to use HWatch to make/answer calls.
1. Without activating "Play phone audio on watch" everything works as before (no way to answer the call without pulling the phone). Somehow expected behaviour.
2. When I activate "Play phone audio on watch", I can answer the call on watch and apparently it thinks the call is going normally. Byt nothing can be heard on either side of the call. On phone the in-call UI is also displayed and no sounds played or recorded.
3. What's even worse, when I conventionally answer the call on my phone, it's somehow answered also on watch, with result being similar to 2 - no voice whatsover on either device - for about 10 seconds. After that the call is hung up on watch and starts to be hearable on phone. This is very annoying.
I admit, I have an old Samsung Galaxy SII running SlimKat 4.4.4 (which should include standard AOSP dialer). Maybe it has an old version of Blutooth or something screwed elsewhere. But for me the new 1.4 functions are now plain unusable.
Edit: Point 3 somehow fixed (or demonstrates randomly). But still: no audio stream between phone and watch.

Well I am somehow facing same issues with my GN 5 with the latest MM, in addition to crashing of FB messenger... Line and other voice calling apps are running fine.
I've recently migrated an m8 to Lineage from stock. It is currently running lineage-14.1-20171109 (initially lineage-14.1-20171102).
Call answering performs normally when Bluetooth is off or Bluetooth is active with no connected devices. It also works as expected when connected to a Bluetooth headset which can provide phone services. It does not work if any audio is playing when an incoming call arrives (only tested to the same headset).
On call presentation an incoming call alert appears at the top of the screen, which if the answer option is selected then the full incoming call screen is opened. From this screen the selector can be moved to answer or reject, both options having no affect. If Text is selected, then the pre-set text list is displayed but no text is sent if selected. At this point the phone is still displaying that there is an incoming call. This can't be cleared down and opening apps/settings is non-functional. Opening settings presents a blank screen with a white background. The only way to get back to a functioning phone is to reboot. After a reboot some of the app groups and icons on the Home Screen may have disappeared.
I've found some Bluetooth issues reported that look very similar to this problem. In those cases the remedy reported was to turn off Privacy Guard for the Bluetooth apps. I've tried this and have turned off Privacy Guard for all apps, though this does not resolve the issue.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Alan
Update:
Having been able to do some further testing with another m8 on the same build and a different Bluetooth device, this problem looks to be app specific. Since un-installing TuneIn Radio Pro I've been unable to reproduce the problem.

I am having issue with my LG G7 ThinQ, whenever I made or received a phone calls the person who is talking to me is hardly hears my voice but if I change it to loudspeaker the voice is very clear and when I'm calling using the whatsapp calls there would be no problem with my voice at all wheter I am using the loudspeaker or not. I wondering there must be a problem with the software or hardware? Does anybody can help me with this problem?
Happened the same to me. I contacted LG customer service and they changed the microphone with no charge because the device was in warranty.
I also had this problem, others complaining that can not hear me good. For me the fix was disabling in call settings the noise suppression and voi e clarity. ?

Does this fixed the issue?
Yes it did.
I'm facing similar issue. How can I disable noise suppression and voice clarity? Couldn't find it in the settings. I'm using Verizon device with the latest updates.
I thought that my upper mic is dead at first. But then I tested video recording and both mics are working fine. So it seems like it's a software issue?

Call dialer, then tap on 3 dots, call settings, sound, noise surpression off. Leave voice clarity on.

You just saved me £200. I just bought this phone new from a mate and I thought he f*cked me over and was about to throw it and buy a new phone, because I had tried everything from new ROMs for different regions to screaming at it.
Did what you said, and now people can hear me properly.
Noise suppression on this phone is taking its job too seriously.
I bought 2x of these phones with a tmobile deal. They both suffer the same fate. You have to hold the phone at a perfect angle to your mouth to get it to pick you up. I assume its made this way to eliminate any background noise. I didn't know of the suppression and clarity settings and now that I tested them, I can hold the phone upside down on my ear and the other party can hear me.
It was probably a good idea on paper for this design/feature but it was very frustrating having to correct the angle of my phone to get my voice to work properly.

Hi,
I just got a OnePlus 7T HD1907 for my wife that I'm setting up. I've got the bootloader unlocked and LineageOS 18.1 20211121 installed (with latest open_gapps and Magisk). Everything works except for a problem during phone calls and other interactive voice type calls.
Here are the symptoms:
When I have an incoming or outgoing phone call, or a Skype call or Signal call, the person on the other end hears a squealing noise. I can hear the person on the other end normally, but they just hear this screech that goes on and on for the duration of the call, and cannot hear anything coming through the
If I change to speakerphone mode during the call, the sound of the screeching changes on the other end but still is definitely there.
When I use a bluetooth headset for the calls instead, the problem does not occur.
When I record audio using a sound recorder app, the recorded audio does not have the screech in it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Elliot

One suggestion on the reddit thread was to go from T-Mobile stock -> Global stock -> LineageOS. I went directly from T-Mobile stock to LineageOS.
I just tried going to global stock (problem gone) and then back to LineageOS and the problem seems gone for good.
