I had issues with it when I updated to A13. But now that Google is baking face unlock into the 7, maybe it'll be easier to port over.
Face unlock should not be trusted on this device. It lacks the hardware to accurately detect the correct face.
It works on the 4 and the 7, but cannot work accurately on the 6 series.
Thank you everyone

I'd suggest you take an extra minute and reread what I wrote mate.
It's placebo. And there are a few roms (not here on xda) that do have face unlock... here's the deal with it (because it does NOT work PROPERLY)... I register my face, and I can unlock, but then, so cant my wife, and my son, and my daughter... get it?

Are you saying their face will unlock your phone that has your face registered? Would that mean anyone's face could open the phone or just close relatives?
Are you able to explain the hardware aspects of 4 that allow FU that aren't included in 6, just curious.
Thanks appreciate the education.

Can't or can? My son CANNOT unlock mine with his face and I can't unlock his with mine, yet we look very much alike alike. So while it may not be trusted for you, I have no issues trusting it for myself.
Add this to the list of things that work for one person but not for another.

Nice but security?.... I think dangerous
Sometimes I wish I had the exciting lives some of you seem to have where you're constantly worried about Ethan Hunt rappelling into your house while you sleep and stealing your phone

Everything I've been reading suggests the 7 has similar security issues to the 6:
Unlike the Pixel 4 series, which used a a miniature radar camera system (Soli) to grab a 3D map of our faces that’s similar to the iPhone’s approach, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro’s face unlock will just use the single 10.8MP front facing camera.

By those metrics, face unlock shouldn't be trusted on the 7 either. Google has said as much:
its face unlock feature is only for the lock screen, and doesn't pass the necessary biometric threshold to unlock apps like password managers, or authenticate mobile payments, like its underscreen fingerprint counterpart
That said, it's still a great convenience

That convenience is why most people won't care. If you do, just be cautious about the 7's implementation too.

My wife is not a close relative, other than I am married to her, so that is irrelevant. Since they can unlock it, I would assume anyone could.

I really miss the face unlock from pixel 4. I wish they will add it to the pixel 6 next feature drop :'(

Unlock bootloader now and save yourself a FDR, lol.

All depends the 5t is much faster at pretty much everything. The note was too long for me.. and i did not like the Samsung skin on android. Also the note 8 selfie at dark is just trash to much noise. The one 5t is much better. I am more of a stock Android person so to me it was a good deal. Its very close to a pixel. Also thought the screen would be an issue. Honestly cant tell much of a difference. Never used the spen. I mean NOT ONCE... So that dint matter to me.

Most custom kernels have a SafteyNet bypass. Paired with Magisk, you can do everything a locked non-rooted user can.
I want to test T-Mobile's reception in my area as Verizon is so expensive. I ordered the 5t as the reviews were excellent. I plan to use the 5t as my work phone. I have not played with the 5t yet. That said, the Note 8 is an unbelievable phone. You can get root on it but I went back to stock. I use the Action Launcher with the Google Now plug in. I too hate Touchwiz.

So at that point, the only difference if I don't want to flash roms yet is I won't be able to take OTAs and need to dirty flash the full zip and non-incremental?
To me the 5t is a much better phone. As i am more of a stock android guy. So i probably will never buy another samsung or any other phone thats not near stock android. Just love pure simple stock Android. No gimmicks or overwhelmed with features

I know the situation with Huawei and bootloader unlocking has been back and forth a little bit... with my searching, I'm not 100% sure where the situation stands.
I've been looking for a giant screen device with minimal bezels, one that works on AT&T (for the most part anyways), and the rest of the specs are nice too, so this phone seems almost perfect.
Except I absolutely require the ability to root.
Does anyone know if the Huawei Mate 20 X will be able to unlock the bootloader? Any announcement or news related to it?
I heard the unlock section in the developer options is greyed out in the UK variants.

Can you tell me im detail how that works. Why is it closed. Im new to Huawei and very interested in mate 20 X, but needed working twrp and root. Does one need to pay to rooted phone.

FunkyHuawei can get the bootloader unlock codes. We just need to figure out why the option is grey'd out.
Once we can enable that, BL can be unlocked.
Hi,
I just go this phone for Christmas and I'm trying to root in order to get my apps and everything back, and I know Xiaomi has been annoying with security and put a lock between 72h and 360 (wtf...) but here I got 1080 hours to wait ! I Googled it and couldn't find anyone else with this much time to wait so please reassure me and tell me I'm no the only one ?
I've been looking for a fix for the past two days with no luck, I don't have any access to the play store and I'm stuck with a half chinese, half english semi brick I can't use...
Any help will be appreciated
don’t the hosts of phones obstruct xiaomi make the money
Every account can unlock one device within 30 days.
Maybe you unlocked an device and 30 days didn’t pass.
If this is not your case write to service email about the reason of such delay and share their answer with us.
I can add the feature of being unmanageable and it try to make public all staff you doing on phone.
I guess no one have a way to stop that.
"Дорогие Xiaomi, не мешают ли вам хозяева телефонов, майнить деньги?"
When I first requested unlock of my Mi Max 3, it said I had to wait 720 hours.
After around 360 hours, I was able to unlock.
So I'm not sure what the reason for the reduction in wait time was, perhaps due to me being a Xiaomi user for a couple of years.
I guess you could write to them or try again after a couple of weeks, to see if they've adjusted it for you.

The Xiaomi can change that value with just finger snap in either direction with no announce. (Google:the+thanos+finger+snap)

Not really, Android is Open Source and so if manufacturers want the free software (especially ones like Xiaomi who don't even include Google Play Services in their Chinese ROM's so don't have to pay a cent to Google), they should give back to the community too by making bootloader unlocking fairly easy. It should be a simple option hidden in the dev settings menu at worst.

oh...
I'm thankful to Xiaomi for:
for the best ratio of the hardware/price
for the good battery and the bigger screen.
And please don't tell me I should be happy with locked boot-loader and mess with arb, i already have multiple reason to be not happy with it.

But as long as hardware is cheap and bootloader is unlockable I'll be happy. That's all I need from a phone.
Anyone,
please help me unlock bootloader on huawei matepad pro 10.8.
Huawei stopped providing bootloader unlock codes in 2018. Some (probably) leaked codes were sold by third parties until early 2019, but those have been stopped. There is no known method to defeat bootloader locking without the manufacturer provided unlock code, so Huawei have effectively shut down custom ROM development. What a sad waste of great hardware engineering.

totally agree with you, the hardware is so good, and if only they let the devs to use it, they would have a community like xiaomi.eu carrying their tab and phones for free, doing better than would do google himself.
But they choose to lock, and nobody care about these very good tab.

Fake. Actually there is no known way, how to unlock bootloader, make downgrade, etc... I read something about big data leak from one devs site and Huawei bootloader codes was in leaked data, so I hope somebody find a way.
That stinks its fake but least on the other hand my samsung galaxy tab s7+ is a beast! and allows bootloader unlock and custom os
For those that are experiencing issues with Fingerprint sensor, there's an interesting project to add Face Unlock that is gaining traction. Here's the xda thread that explains how it works..
Also, a few custom ROMs have added Face Unlock, such as Derpfest Raviole (maintainer FullOfHell). It adds a bunch of other customization options and the latest version is stable with improved performance over stock.
Just wanted to add that face unlock is less secure than fingerprint unlock which is even less secure than a long PIN or Password. You should only be using face unlock if you know the risks (and of course it doesn't have to be used).
Still holding up hope that Google decides to add this to the P6. Even though it's doubtable after half a year of them not giving any indications.
I'm also still holding out hope google adds it
in Pixel 7 Pro only lol I bet
ОТAgree! I miss Pixel 4(((

Just have no password, it's more secure and faster to unlock

That really doesn't help much. Is there a feature list, what is included, what doesn't work? Just saying it's stable is very limited information. Is there a reason it's not on XDA?
Yeah if the Dev wanted it on here, wouldn't they make a post? This whole thread seems like an ad
