Hi there,
I run stock 62.1.A.0.645 (and no root of course).
Is there an easy way to freeze/unfreeze selected app (without uninstalling it)?
More details:
I'd like to use one phone and 2 smartwatches/bands: Samsung GW and Amazfit T-rex.
While using GW (most of the time) I'd like the Amazfit app (Zepp) to be frozen, but not uninstalled. And sometimes when I'd be using T-rex (while riding a bike or hiking) I'd like to unfreeze Zepp and freeze the Samsung app.
Titanium Backup might do the trick, but it needs root.
Also, I thought I could simply disable the app from apps manager, but I dont see that option with Zepp (only uninstall or force stop).
Any suggestions welcome.
TIA.

Back in the days I used to use an app called Greenify to hibernate background apps. It doesn't disable apps but it keeps them from running in the background so it accomplishes a similar thing. Nowadays Android also lets you restrict apps from running in the background, could work too.
Thanks for your helpful post. I'm so much glad to know more about it.
You can disable apps with terminal commands. Install a terminal app then read this.
To find out the package name of the app you want to disable/enable use App Inspector.
Be careful when disabling packages, make sure you just disable apps installed by you. Disabling preinstalled apps can mess up the phone if you don't know what you're doing and you'll end up having to factory reset it.

Is there an app that can edit app launch preferences, not just run and kill the apps as they start? Or is there a file that can be edited to keep certain apps from launching on their own? Thank you!
I think you can use Titanium Backup to "freeze" apps, but I don't know if that is persistent or it resets upon reboot. You could give it a shot.
TB does keep them from loading once you freeze the app.
Autostarts.

So TB doesnt just kill them as they start it actually tells them not to load?
+1 for Autostarts.

No, it freezes them so that the phone doesn't know they exist (they're not installed any more), so their launch-on-boot entries aren't there any more.
In other words, if you freeze them, they're not installed any more, so you can't use them.
does any one have a list of the app that can be frozzen without disruption the use of the phone? also im ussing LP so the sense can go too? if yes what are the sense apps
Just found this app and installed it. I want to make sure that I don't "freeze" some important files. Has anyone else installed this and played around to find what works and doesn't work?

Haven't used that. I just use Titanium Backup or actually uninstall crap I don't want. TB has a freeze function and is free. But for the ultimate stream-lined-ness? CM7. The new gapps scheme only downloads what you want, not all of the google apps.
Using System Tuner instead...
Didn't try this app as I simply uninstall unwanted system apps, then I usually freeze Google Maps which keeps restarting and consuming CPU while I don't need it most of the time!
You can check the app there:

After rooting our phones, there are several apps that still run (for instance AP and AccuWeather) that I never use.
Autostarts is a really great app.
It lets you prevent apps from opening on certain occurances.
For instance, certain apps open on SMS sent/receive or call receive/sent...
It's a great way to keep apps that you never use/need from starting.
I find that this app is still applicable compared to Juice Defender and SetCPU as these newer phones seem to handle that well.
Anyone else find the same?
Thanks for the feedback.

Why not just get root explorer and delete them?

Try it... A lot of them are processes that cannot be deleted.
Besides...
It isn't about deleting apps.
It's about controlling when an app will start (or when it's triggered to start) based off actions.
Why do I need app x,y, z starting when i send a text message? Answer... I don't...
From the market:
Keep control over your phone: See what applications do behind your back.
Shows you what apps run on phone startup, and what other events trigger in the background. Root users can disable unwanted autostarts and speed up their phone boot.
Note: Root-Access *is* required to make changes. Otherwise, this application will be read-only.

Let me rephrase as I'm not making my point (sorry!!).
Google Maps will start at bootup... also when you change connectivity on your device.
I only want Maps open when I open it...
This app lets you prevent things from opening based off certain events (boot up, outgoing sms, incoming call, connectivity change, etc).
So freezing or deleting would remove the app that you might otherwise want.
Hope that makes sense.
Oh i see yes that is true some apps will come on as soon as connectivity changes, If find good settings post some screen shot and i will do the same

This is a VERY handy app. thanks loads. this is definitely a function that android should incorporate stock like they did with task killer
I purchased this app back when I first got my evo and I am now using it with my ET. It is a very handy app to have.
forgive my ignorance here. I'm new to all of this.
My 2014 10.1 was giving me all kinds of issues, but mostly, battery problems.
I decided to root the device, and did so successfully, checking to make sure. It is.
But now, I'd like to remove bloatware and Samsung apps that I feel might be causing the issue. How do I go about doing this?
Cannot find, searching the web, what needs to be done now. Thanks for the help.,

Your safest and best bet is to install Titanium Backup and FREEZE the bloatware. I'm not recommend to uninstall or delete system apps. After you freeze, you won't see them in your app draw, and they don't take up space at all. If by accident to freeze one of the critical app which may cause problem but you could easily un freeze and back to business.
Flash a custom recovery, twerp 2.6.x.x, and flash a new rom.

Don't uninstall anything, freeze with Titanium Backup but ultimately install xposed and greenify all unnecessary apps, aside from a handful, all my apps are greenified. I don't greenify system apps but you may some select few. Battery performance is far superior this way.

Ok, i'm a total noob and i admit it ...rooted my Note 2014 successfully, but like the OP i really don't know what to freeze...
1. If i freeze Samsung Apps (and widget), Samsung Hub (+updater) will the other samsung individual apps still update themselves? I'm interested mainly in updating Sketchbook for Galaxy (the one the tablet came with) - i asked in another thread and no answer
2. what is "greenify" ? (same as "freeze"?)
Thank you
Mike

Freeze is the same as uninstalled, frozen apps do not run. It's safer than removing because it's still on your device and you can unfreeze anytime.
Greenify is a module for xposed. It stops apps from running in background. Greenified apps are available in your app list, run them as usual. But when they are not used for some time, greenify closes them. In your example you'd like to greenify Samsung Apps, not freeze, so you can run it regularly to check for updates.

Put a sticker on it "Warranty void after 10 minutes", put it in a picture frame and hang it on the wall.
I tried uninstalling certain system apps via Titanium Backup such as Play Movies & TV but to my horror, PlayStore reinstalled them immediately.
It's not a huge deal but I dislike seeing apps on my app drawer that I will never use. Alternatively, I could freeze it but I rather free up the space.
Has anyone had any luck in permanently uninstalling system apps?

You could try using your root explorer type app and delete the apk. Should be gone after a reboot.

I always use solid explorer to do that. Works every time
I have the same problem. Have you guys been able to use a file explorer to do it? Root Explorer just says that the delete fails and Solid just hangs during the delete process. Anyone figure this out?
