Dropped in water, send, windows and back buttons no longer work

I got my new Rhodium (AT&T Tilt 2) on Monday, and I love it. Unfortunately, I was stupid and left it in my shirt pocket while i bent over a bowl of water. Predictably, it fell in. It seems to be working fine as far as making and receiving calls, and there is no problem with the touch screen. The problem is that three of the buttons on the bottom don't work - the send, windows, and back buttons.
I'm willing to take any suggestions. I'll have to end up replacing it anyway, and the warranty's void because it got wet.

If the sticker is white, your good to replace, but try a can of air duster blown around the keys. Or take the battery out and apply a SMALL DROP of rubbing alcohol blowing it out as soon as it seeps in, making sure it evaporates throughly befor reinstalling battery. And blow away from screen.

This may have been the wrong approach, but I basically took a hairdryer and blew straight over the keys that weren't working in hopes that drying under them would cause them to work again.
It worked. Phone appears to be working better now, though it's a bit crackly when I use my bluetooth headset.

That's good. This is my suggestion: even though the keys are working now, leave the device out in the sun (even better if in a bowl of rice) for a day or two. It'll absorb all the residue that could do damage later on.

yes,a hairdryer or just sun shine can save your device,i suguest you£§d better turn off it before it is dry

Not the same phone, but I had my HTC Shadow completely immersed in a glass of water. It dried in two days, and resumed working perfectly.
(The sticker was still white, so it would not be under water hazard treatment for warranty).

much better to use compressed air or a vacuum than a hair dryer. The heat and air forces the water into places as a vapor that it cant get to as a liquid. The bag of rice works well as well. You can also put over a heat register in your house that has the fan going to move away evaporated moisture. Contact cleaner also works well as it evaporates and takes some of the dirt and moisture with it.

Hey alright it works. the alcohol is more of a last resort thing, but I like the rice idea, gonna go buy some silica gel cat litter just for this purpose.

[Q] How to dry out display without ruining it?

my friends phone got waterlogged, unfortunately the water got into display itself... everything was perfectly dried and works fine with exception of display... it got occassionally lines on it (it was unreadable for about an hour after reassembly) and while underlighted it is still full of water (the display consists of many layers) anyone has some cheap way of getting the water safely out? (it might not be even clean water, it was a tap water which may contain various minerals)

I have always used a meat dehydrator.you know ,the things that make beef jerky. 48 hours in that will dry it out as safe as you can get. (mine dose not heat up much past 40c.) You don't want it too warm or too much forced air flow.

okay, will silica gel + heat from radiator (not much, just to force the water into steam form) do the job too? also, do you think that cleaning the display with distilled water is good idea? afaik distilled water is non-conductive when properly distilled and it might clean the minerals (if any present) from tap water...

okay, after one day letting it dry on its own while used (friend doesnt have any working spare phone and so i - so i put it together, hoping it will not corrode because of increased humidity) in phone the display is about 50% dried out and the dried space is like new one, no dirty stains at all, so i'm not gonna open it again those flex cables doesn't look robust enough for daily manipulation anyway thanks for your help

If it ever happens again, or if someone else stumbles on this, just throw the phone in a tub if uncooked rice. Open or closed, it'll do the same thing.

One of the best way to dry phone after flooding is to put it into the glass of rectified spirit. Alcohol mixes with water and leaches minerals (clears electronic parts). Alcohol evaporates at a lower temperature, making drying easier.

True. And once it's dry, then you'd better hope it didn't short-circuit because of the water... Then you would just be left with a waterlog... I heard Apple has a great deal of experience with water damage xD

Help!! Touchscreen not working!!

2 weeks ago i went out for a swim with my Xperia Z1 Compact
after i came back the phone had water droplets on both the cameras
I tried to dry it as quickly as possible during which the phone started to malfunction (the ambient light sensor stopped working, the touch screen started to do things on its own, the front camera stopped working)
And now after 2 weeks of trying to dry the phone from inside everything is back to normal
the light sensor works, the front camera works, the sound works
the only thing that doesnt work is the touch screen, i cant touch at any part of the screen
Can someone tell me what the problem might be and how to fix it?

seems like the touchscreencable is shorting out. could be because of residue liquid behind the panel.
best guess, grab a heat gun and some spudgers, remove the display assemly (look for youtube guides) and let it dry.
after that look for any dirt , clean it with isopropanol and attach it again.
1. if it works, buy a fitting self-adhesive foil and glue it back together.
2. if not, im afraid you will have to buy a new display assembly somewhere. (they are at about 75 € in germany, i dont know what it will cost you at your location.)
should be doable with a little bit of patience and about 20 $ in tools.

I need help removing Nexus 5X screen

Hello guys,
I had an accident where I spilled liquid on top of my phone's screen, it was alcohol based, so it got through the bottom speaker and went to the screen layers. After a couple of days of trying to dry it out, there are still terrible looking streaks that look like water damage. I tried using a hair dryer and a suction tool from my car mount for the phone, to remove the screen, but it won't budge. This method worked easy with my old Nexus 5. Some heat, I pull up and it comes right off. With this - I heated as much as I can, and then pulled with all my strength, but screen will not come loose from the frame.
Has anyone removed the screen on their phone, or does anyone have experience in doing such things, to help me pull this off?
I believe that if I manage to remove the screen, and clean the layers, screen should be back to 100%.
I asked a friend of mine to lend me his heat gun, but I am afraid of applying too much heat and killing the LCD, or doing bad things to the plastic body of the phone.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

NO! I know how ti disassemble the phone... What you are posting doesn't even include the screen separation from the frame.

I have been watching videos a lot, but I myself, after following them, am unable to separate screen from frame. And to be fair there is just 1-2 videos out there that actually show people doing that. In one a dude used heat, a suction tool and a precision knife to lift the screen from the frame. I don't think using a metal tool on a heated plastic, to lift a glass is a good idea, especially when the adhesive is so strong. I guess the screen from that video has already been removed, that is why it looked so doable. I bet if I try that, I will f*ck up my pristine frame (phone is 1,5 months old)

Same problem here, I cannot manage to separate the screen from the frame. Did you manage to remove it?

I broke that damn glass into pieces from the back holes, allowing me to insert a guitar plectrum and finally remove it all. Fixed

Dirt Top Speaker Grid

Slowly, day by day, incall volume decreased.
I compared mi mi6 with a newer one, a friend's MI6, and I found out that my top speaker grid is completely clogged with dust and dirt... I tried to clean that with a needle and a vacoon, it worked, but after some hours the volume decreased another time...
How about you? Are you facing a similar problem? How you solved? Or how would you solve?
P.s.: Top speaker also have very little holes, is pretty difficult to clean.

Mi6 is almost water resistang BUT NOT THE USB PORT
So basically you can clean it with water or alcohol. Be careful with pointy objects.

I don't really suggest any liquids other than ones made specifically for electronics. Alcohol is a good one or some water with its charge removed (forgot the name). The Mi 6 has no water resistance rating. They just say it has some sealing against water so take the advice with a pinch of salt. Sony made all their phones "water resistant" and later recalled the claims :/
I cleaned some small fibers from my ear speaker using bluetac gently pressed against it. GENTLY!!!
You can clean the bottom speaker with a pin gently around the very outer part.
Don't put the pin actually inside or it will get damaged. Just the outside parts.
Its not too bad to clean luckily. Not ideal that there are places for dirt to build up but many phones have this issue

Hello friends:
In the same way, over time the volume was decreasing until reaching the point of not listening to anything!
the problem is the blessed speaker, it seems to be clogged with dirt or I really do not know what happens.
I cleaned it with a contact cleaner for electric circuits and then with a suction vacuum for the outside ... and I really improved a lot, but I do not stay 100% as when I was new, a pity I am disappointed by this Mi6, apparently they are equipment with failures factory.

Hi, with a toothbrush and contact cleaner (electronic) on the speaker call, with circular movements I cleaned it and now if it sounds much better, I can say 100%, I noticed when I cleaned the speaker, there were some white particles, I guess that had saturated, obstructed in its entirety the output of the sound, even until the stereo mode is better heard in that front speaker .. greetings and luck!
