5G - Huawei Mate 20 Questions & Answers

I would like to know if there is a way to get 5G on my mate 20 pro, either by tweak or by custom rom. (Maybe it is not possible due to cpu)

System-based differences between Redmi Note 5 Pro with Redmi Note 5 AI-dual-camera?

I'm planning on getting a Redmi Note 5 since my old iPhone kept stealing my money due to broken parts and I'm on a tight budget.
The thing is, I don't like MIUI (or any OEM-modified firmware, honestly). So once I get the phone, unlocking bootloader and installing a LOS or RR rom is my very first thing to do, along with some audio mods like V4A or the newly ported Xperia XZ2 sound system.
And since this sub-forum title is REDMI NOTE 5 PRO, but every Redmi Note 5 availablein my country is NOT the "Pro" variant (it only have 13mp front cam unlike the 20mp on the pro), can I use any custom roms or mods on this subforum to a non-pro redmi note 5 device?
Thanks
Yep you can
Short answer yes.
The pro and the Ai are the same the Ai is for the Chinese market just with different carrier frequencies. If your one got the Snapdragon 636 you are right here as in some countries it's just called Redmi Note 5 /global.
Front camera:
China/Global: OmniVision OV13855 13 MP 1.0 μm
India: Sony Exmor RS IMX376 20 MP (f/2.2, 1/2.8", 1.0 μm),
thank you so much for the answers, cheers!
I'm looking to buy a whyred too (upgrading from vince). Does it matter if i get the 6gb or 4gb variant? I mean, from my logic, it shouldn't matter since that is hardware that has nothing to do with custom roms but still.. Can i still get all the custom roms available if i get the 6gb variant one? Or is its hardware different pertaining custom roms?

You'll still be able to flash any custom roms for whyred if you opt for 6gb ram variant.

Redmi Note 8 Indian unit - Plz help - Redmi Note 8 vs Realme 3 pro

Friends - If you already got delivery from amazon or bought from mi store in India. Please help with following details:
1) LCD Panel - Tianma or something else. https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-8/help/redmi-note-8-tianma-lcd-panel-t3991425
2) 48 MB - Samsung GM1 or GM2
3) LT FDD and TDD bands supported. 4G+ working? Now is call quality, signal strength, speed?
4) If anyone of you have a realme 3 pro or 5 pro handy, try to compare on Point 3 above.
5) Speaker quality?
6) Fingerprint speed. If you have used RN7pro or realme 3 pro or Realme 5 pro, it may seem slow. That is what I understood from some video reviews on youtube.
Plz help. Nitpicking but very confused between Redmi Note 8 and Realme 3 pro. Ordered both at same price.
Will accept one and cancel another order.
RN8 pros over RM3Pro - Type C, Led Notification, Cameras?, Ir Blaster, MiUI (not a fan, but better than color os)
RM3Pro over RN8 - Processor (Huge difference. SD710 is way ahead. Better ISP, Better core and speed, Better AI, Better LTE (X15). SD665 pubg options are very low ), Better call and network quality (I heard), Vooc Charger.
What do you suggest.
Someone help here with some insights please.
Go with realme 3 pro and flash custom rom processor is important in long run also you can get better software experience with custom Roms what else can one want?

Custom Rom support on 3 pro is not that good. Still no official and stable roms. Multiple bugs. I have researched. I have been using custom roms for 5 years now Moto G1 and then Lenovo Z2 plus.
I consoled myself to adjust with Color OS also as SD 710 at this price is gr8 deal but color os specially on realme 3 pro has serious standby and battery drain issues it seems.
Except processor everything seems better on RN8.
SD665 is in a way downgrade from SD660 than an upgrade.

If I were you I would have gone with redmi note 7 pro which is at 12k (Sony imx 586 is beast) now but if you don't want that then you should wait for redmi note 9 as their odd no series is much better like redmi note 3,5,7 etc
And if you can't wait for it then gsi's can be installed on realme 3 pro and currently rom development hasn't taken pace for redmi note 8 too so I think little wait should be better.
One more thing realme launches devices more frequently and realme 6 box has came in leaks so whenever realme 6 pro launches you can get realme 5 pro in 10k (which will hardly take 6 months)
Conclusion : little patience and wait will be better if you don't need new device urgently

It is urgent. Sold my Lenovo Z2 plus on cashify. Battery would have died any day.
Using a freind's old phone temporarily.
Ordered both Realme 3 pro and Redmi note 8 at 9k. Have to settle with one of these for now.
Did lot of research. Not a single satisfactory phone in midrange without any flaws
So decided to go for less price for now and upgrade later after 1 year maybe.
Then go with realme 3 pro if can bear color os or can flash gsi (phusson sir's gsi's are pretty stable though) . And realme is working on more stock like rom too this is more bang for buck now. Faster charging and faster processor are the things you will notice in day to day life more rather than type c port and for camera gcam will do the job on both so you don't have to worry about cameras as both have capable sensors too

i am having Indian Unit.
1. IT has Tianama Panel
2.GM1 sensor
3.It supports all Indian 4G bands. And It has 4G+ (Jio) getting good net speed, signal strength and call quality is good, but ear piece is not that loud so u ill get bit low voice while u r on crowd place.
4. If u doesnt bother about 4G+ then u can go with realme 3 Pro. Their Color OS keep on getting improvements.
5. Loudspeaker is good but on max volume u ill get some distortions. 80% volume is good
6.FP is good no issues.
I am using realme 5 pro.. Color os is Not that bad.. and on debloting its very smooth. And use nova.. U will have good experiemce withsd 710.. And also cameras are good .Gcam improves it.. Also charging speed will definitely gives peace of mind. I like vooc charger.. And reception is better than my previous galaxy devices.. Internet speeds too..

Deciding between Note 8 and Note 8T

Hi guys,
I have the option of buying either the Redmi Note 8 or Note 8T at basically the same price.
Can you help me decide which one is best, taking in consideration the community support and rom updates for each? I ask because a friend told me that the Note 8 actually had better support.
Thank you

Note 8 is better if you ask me, lot of roms are unified, but some roms are 8 only. That would be enough, plus I think that 8 has notification led, 8T does not.
Your friend already gave you good advice, I am stuck with 8T because my mobile provider had only that model, otherwise I would go with 8 only and never PRO, as you are already aware of I think.

I am a noob in all of this, so I am yet to truly try to customise my phone, roms, etc. But I see myself doing it in the future and thus why it may be important to have a phone with an active community support.
Right now, I am trying to figure out what is the best option to buy in this price range:
Realme 6i (4GB ram, 128Gb rom)= 163€
Note 8 = 150 euros
Note 8 T = 156euros
Note 8T has the NFC which is kind of useful (and seems like a faster charger). Other than that, it seems that the Note 8 is more appealing to some due to the mentioned custom roms and Led notifications.
I would really appreciate if folks could just nudge me in the right way with these options.
Cheers
Other element to take into account :
Note 8 global version doesn't have LTE BAND B28 700Mhz
Note 8 international version and Note 8T have LTE BAND B28 700Mhz
if you don't need NFC get note8
the NFC chip consume battery

Coming from a Oneplus 5T

Is worth it change my phone to a Mi 10t lite ?
I send my Poco F2 pro and keep , Redmi note pro 9 5g! Its not so important CPU . there is no big difference , but the rest, fresh rate , 108 mpx camera, fingerprint sensor on side.. phone is awesome for me .. Realme's are terrible at unlocking bootloader, custom Roms and Rooting in my experience.

these mi phone with their heavily skinned stock rom are not making any sense after installing a custom rom or rooting as its not increasing any performance and more over that its causing more trouble than solving a few. it makes more sense to stick with a minimalistic stock rom providing brand.

How can you justify not having better performance in custom ROMs with MI devices?
I'm running a Mi10i. I hate MIUI because of how bloated it is. And unresponsive.
Switching over to something like AOSP really did help the device maintain its speed and battery life.

Question If you want custom roms which is better to get OnePlus 11 or Pixel 7 Pro?

Specs wise I would like to get OnePlus 11 but I've been seeing some info that maybe custom roms won't be coming. Any guidance is appreciated.
The Pixel 7 Pro definitely has more development. OnePlus made it difficult to recover from bricking so many developers have passed them up. A OnePlus 11 running LineageOS or AOSP based ROM would be amazing though.
Get a OnePlus 9 Pro. Comparable CPU, faster GPU with better support than Mali, display is kind of a wash (it's dimmer on the OnePlus but people tend to think the colors are better than the Pixel 7 Pro), much better modem, $600 new on Amazon or you can get them pretty cheap on Swappa and there are a ton of custom ROMs as well as unbricking tools available in case you need them. Don't buy the T-Mobile model though, you'll be hating life. Just get the regular unlocked model, LE2125.
Peep the OnePlus 9 Pro forum and see just how much dev support the thing has.
OnePlus 9 Pro
The OnePlus 9 Pro is a 6.7" phone with a 1440x3216p 120Hz display. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset is paired with 8/12GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage. The main camera is 48+8+50+2MP and the selfie camera is 16MP. The battery has a 4,500mAh capacity.

If you want privacy, Pixel 7 Pro with Graphene OS.
Oneplus 9 pro is still great.
So far nobody is recommending OP11. So you guys don't feel very confident about OP11 custom rom prospects?

Not without a recovery tool being available. Just look at the 10 Pro and 10T before it that didn't have one either.
As long as there is nothing like MSM Tools, noone will recommend Oneplus'es new flagship phone Oneplus 10 Pro upwards.
OnePlus 9 pro seems like it'll be the only OP device with support for ROMs. I like the 9 pro. It's been a good phone. Soon as I can sell my S22 ultra I'll be going back to it more than likely.
