I'm moving from a Pixel 4a to the 6 and it feels like a good time to have a change of launcher.
Been using nova 6 but it seems to be getting more buggy. I didn't move to 7 as I didn't want to lose persistent notification badges.
I like a simple homescreen with icons (no search bar!) And persistent badges.
Closest I have found is Microsoft launcher, but persistent badges are not a thing. I really want these, at least in a unified mail app, SMS and WhatsApp.
Did anyone ever work out a solution after Google changed the permission rules (leading to the demise of Tesla unread)
I am on Nova 7.0.57 and my badges work. I just turned on the setting and I got two emails and it showed a 2 on the icon.

But if you now clear the notification , or open the email app and 1 email, does the badge clear or does it display as 1?

I didn't know there was an 8! So are notifications back to the good old days of 6 (ie dismissing the notification bar doesn't remove the unread count)? Great if so

I am new to android phones and G3 (32gb/3gb/D855) is my first one.My problem is that i cant make my fb app push notifications.I have set on notifications from in app settings/account plus app section in G3 settings.I did clear data ,uninstal/install app even a reset to my phone !But nothing so far.Any suggestions?
Facebook for Android doesn't push notifications like iPhone does. But if you have the most recent version of Facebook beta (not sure if I'm still running beta or not) you should get Android L style lockscreen notifications of new Facebook notifications. Also notifications may or may not pop up in your notification drawer. I don't follow any friends on my fb only the news sites and companies I'm interested so I don't get many notifications

The facebook app about a year ago always pushed every notification, past few months it hasnt. I think it's just the FB devs being ****ty coders again!

FB push notifications on iPhone and Android are way different. Android does not push notifications like iPhone. It only shows a notification

The core code. It's completely different, Apple and Google are like chalk and cheese. Total opposites.

Yes I know code wise of course they are different. But notifications are still shown and sent out via apps and displayed on the notification bar. What way is it in iOS? Is it not similar?

Here is a more technical answer for you -- delves into it a lot more than I can. :good:

When gcm is used it does push notifications, the difference is just that you can decide yourself what you do with the message you received (as app developer) and show a notification or whatever afterwards.
Does anyone know of an app that gives you iOS 8 style actionable notifications? I like the ones on the lock screen that allows you to swipe to the right to go into the app or swipe to the left to to reply to text, archive in gmail, ect.
Its not an app, but will do the trick too.
Buy an iphone!!!!!

What's really funny is that crApple is getting credit for the Heads Up notification style that's been in Android for over a year.

Wait for Android L for notifications on the lockscreen. Have tried the Android L dev preview on my Nexus 7 and it is a great feature to have.
For actionable notifications however, there is a headsup notification feature like the poster above me said. You can use an app called HeadsUp to achieve that affect. Another app called Floatifications displays the notifications in a bubble style thing like Facebook Messenger chat heads. You can give it a try if that is your sort of thing.
If you really want notifications on your lockscreen though, try adding a widget to your lockscreen which displays the current notification. Or try DashClock for a similar sort of effect.
nils will do the screen on and swipe to open actions

I use AcDisplay. It's customizable and looks damn sexay!!
Probably not what you're looking for but I'd definitely give this a try. I really love it. Plus it changes if you're commuting or between day and night, etc.

The Notifications in Android are usually actionable. The lock-screen ones are something to look forward in Android L. For any other notifications you can try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.headsup. These are technically baked into Android L but are available now in form of this third party application.
Try LockerPro

I see my girls phone does this but it's retarded cause you still need to unlock the phon3 an open the app lol
Im actually using AcDisplay https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.achep.acdisplay&hl=pl check it! :good: only u must installed xposed app
Read the thread by s3v3rn 7..this is a modded rom with aroma installer which has an option to install iOS icons etc..

Hi all
Is there a way to disable notification badges on the official home app? I personally find it more distracting than convenient.

Notification badges?
FYI this would better be asked in the G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forums.
Yeah, with a other Launcher
Any other ideas, except changing the launcher?
Need some help with my Google Pixel XL, specifically with regards to notifications. I can't for the life of me find a way to turn on the red badges for notifications and can't seem to find anything related to it online. The red badges I'm referring to are the little red bubbles in the top right of the app frame showing you how many, for example, emails you received on the app. Not sure if this is not a feature of the Google Pixel XL or I'm just too dumb and can't locate this option . Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance
Nexus and Pixel don't have that feature on Stock Firmware so there's obviously no option in the settings for that.
You either have use a - I have no tip cause I don't need those counters - third party app or maybe some xposed module thingy after rooting the device when it is available.
Nova launcher has an option for unread notification count.
Sent from my Pixel XL using XDA-Developers mobile app
Try adding the widget for your mail app to the home screen. The default icon do not have the count badges, but most of the widgets do. I use both NINE and BlueMail and this is the only way I got the badges to work.
Try Nova Launcher Beta, it can be set up exactly the same as stock pixel launcher plus the addition of unread count bubbles. You will need the beta version which can be signed up to within the regular app if you want the swipe up to enter app drawer feature.
I use Nova + Tesla Unread, though displays incorrect counts occasionally.
Well... This ain't iOS lol. Just jk jk. You meant notification badges, as the guys above said you may need another launcher. Still don't know why you would want that. Androids notifications are 1000000000x better than ios anyways.

It's kind of worthless since it will ONLY use the Google Calendar, and I use another app for calendar displays.
It takes up real estate.
But you can't turn it off? Is that really correct?
If you're using the stock launcher then no, not that I've found. You could always try using a different launcher, I'd recommend Nova.
Yeah, I was trying to give google's a fair chance, but getting irritated with the large gaps between icons as well. Thanks.
Nope, you can't turn it off or remove it but you can turn off the 2 functions is has - Calendar events and Traffic information. Just long press on it and a little pop-up comes up labeled Preferences. Tap that.
This should solve your issues. Install it on top of your stock Pixel Launcher. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-rootless-pixel-2-launcher-google-t3688393

I use the google calendar and still get no notifications or events on the screen. I thought I'd give pixel launcher a chance but i'm going back to nova. all the gaps are annoying me.

It only shows them close to the event time. I'm not sure if it honors the notification period on the event (which I think is like 10 minutes?) or if it has a hard coded value, I just moved the appointment right up close, in a bit later it appeared. Completely anti-climatic, I much prefer seeing what's queued up, e.g. Smooth Calendar widget is one I've been using for ages, nothing special but at least it makes sense.
mine still doesn't show events happening in the next 2 min. I think I'm going back to nova launcher. btw I use Event Flow Widget. It's hands down my favorite and having that on my homescreen is the #1 reason I couldn't get an iphone. i have to have that widget on the homescreen.

I know this is old but I found it looking for the same thing. Open it up and click on the settings gear icon. Toggle everything to off and it disappears
