One fine morning my Note 10.1 2014 battery started showing as 0% and will not 'charge' (i.e., percentage will not rise). As a result, the tablet has to stay plugged-in always to use it (just like a desktop computer). The moment it is unplugged, it shuts down in 1 or 2 seconds. Tried different chargers/cables/flex cables/new battery/uninstalling/reinstalling/warming...& what not. But nothing solves the issue. I came to know that the battery is actually holding/taking in charge which is evident from the fact that the tablet runs without being plugged-in in the recovery/TWRP mode! It seems just that the android OS is not recognizing the charging. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
Is the battery really good? The boot menu uses a lot less current than normal boot up operation.
Otherwise you're looking at a possible mobo failure. If it has a charger pcb it could be that.
A Samsung Experience center at a Best Buy might be able to sort it out for you.

It is not the battery, I am pretty sure! As for the other possible causes suggested, it seems Samsung considers the product too 'old' now to look into/offer any service/parts replacement. Anyway, thanks for the quick reply!
I got the same experience. Recently installed LOS14.1 on my Samsung 2 7.0 and battery just drained and inspite charging it overnight never recovered. I think it's really the LOS 14.1. Now I cant even boot it up anymore.

I strongly doubt that LOS14.1 (lineage-14.1-20210320-UNOFFICIAL-lt03lte) is the culprit as my old P605 still works with the unchanged battery.
Once charged it lasts for quite some days (usage 0.5h/day) without problems.
It's always in flight mode and mostly WLAN is shut off.
It's not that cuz of an OS it's the old battery problem....
Same thing happens to one of my cellhphones.
I charrge it to 100 % while it's turned OFF then tomorrow I turned it on and battery is at 1 %, 0 % and shuts off.
It's just old Li-Ion battery which needs replacement.
After having replaced the battery with a new one with about 50% charge the discharged P605 would only recharge to the level of the original charge. It returned to normal behaviour after charging once with the original 5v/2A charger and the original cable with the second GND contact missing. If the latter did the trick, with most cables u can't tell whether the contact is wired to GND or not.
But in the days of miniUSB, the second GND was sometimes used to put the device in charge or pc connection mode, by swapping cables.

I have a battery / charging problem on my Gnex. The problem is that the battery won’t charge more then 60 %, drains quick and then the phone shuts down at 0 % ( in about 2-3hrs of use) and wont restart until recharged.
At first, I tought it was the battery so I bought one OEM on ebay. It did the same thing so I returned it and went to Telus store to buy an OEM.
Same thing happened with the new OEM. I then bought an external wall battery charger and charged the 2 batteries I have. When I put the first one back in the phone it said 12%?
I tried the second one which is the new OEM and same thing, its showing 12%.
I did a little test, I had 4.2.2 so I unlocked the phone and rooted (no more warranty anyway) I flashed back the ROM to ICS. No change.
So what I did next is I used the phone until it shut down at 0% and restarted it on the bootloader screen and left it on, on the bootlooader screen.
Well the phone screen stayed on for more then 3 hours, so I know the battery is good because there is no way that a 0% battery could power the screen for 3 hours.
So after it shut down from the bootloader screen, I charged it again, in the phone, and it went right back to 60%, I did try to wipe batt stats from recovery mode and battery calibration apps but no luck.
Is there a way to disable the auto shut down on the phone? The battery meter if definitely showing wrong charge stats. Is the battery controller part of the USB board or the motherboard?
The only thing I did not try yet is a custom ROM and Kernel.
Any ideas?
Sounds like a hardware failure... It's obviously not the batteries

I found where the Power Management with Switch Mode Charger chip is, on the motherboard! I wonder if there is some ways to access and modify the values of this.

For what it's worth, the same thing is happening to me. Charges to 64%, and it acts like it's only got a 64% charge - runs out fast. And I also tried a replacement OEM battery with no difference. I'm not completely convinced this is a hardware problem - though I guess it could be. I'm still stock Gnex (with the 4.3 upgrade - and come to think of it, this started some time after that upgrade). I was hoping it was some kind of kernel problem that i could fix by switching to CM. Anybody have any luck with that?
The same thing is happening to my phone, although I'm lucky enough to have it charge to 73%. Only realized the problem when I bought a new OEM battery and it stopped charging at the same 73%. I have a friend who has the exact same phone and will give her both my batteries to charge and see the results (with her phone then once batteries are reinstalled in my phone).
Outside of replacing the motherboard, would anyone know if there could possibly be a software fix? Has this happened to any other phone? If so does anyone know the results?

Sounds like a hardware failure in the phones' charging circuit. Since:
- no software change (ROM or Kernel) fixes it
- no battery change fixes it
Then it's obviously the charging circuit in the phone. Time to get a new phone!
Well I've confirmed for myself that it is my phone charging circuit that's giving me bad info on my battery charge. I installed both my batteries in a friends Gnex and both gave me 100% charge reading on my friends phone. I then re-installed both batteries in my phone and both came back with identical 13% charge reading. So to me this is obviously not a battery issue.
Since my previous post in July my phone has gotten progressively worst. So I have now come to the point where I either have to replace the phone's charging circuit or replace the phone all together. I would much rather do the first as any replacement phone via my carrier would require me to pay more monthly on my contract.
So would anyone know with certainty where the charging circuit is located in the Gnex? Is it on the main logic board or the USB charging board?

My 8.4 Pro worked perfectly (6-8h SoT, 100% charge everytime) for about 2 months, but hasn't been charging properly since yesterday. I tried combos of all my charger/cables - they are all giving 1A+ rate on my other devices, but not even being measured on the tab (vis Ampere). Battery has been stuck around 50% for ages. I'm in India, so no easy way to get this back to the US for warranty replacement. Besides, by the time I return to NJ, the tab will be out of warranty.
Please note that I have also factory reset it. The problem, unfortunately, persists.
What should I do? This may not be a software issue: I use this tab while I'm on a stationary cycle, so maybe that motion somehow 'knocked' the battery out of whack somehow? Should I open up the tab and do a battery reset? Is there any, less dangerous, solution?

You need to use a 2A rated charger and really there is only a few that qualify, I suggest you only use the Samsung charger as they seem to have a certain way to charge it, chargers do go bad sometimes so look for an official replacement (they cost like $5 on ebay), beware of knockoffs though since they look identical, I suggest searching for the same model number on the charger. IE : EP-TA10JWE
anyways here are some things to try in the meantime
1. drain the battery down to 15%
2. hold the power button down and choose the Power Off setting, wait until you feel it vibrate, now let the tablet sit for an hour in this state. (do not hook it to a charger)
3. after an hour or two, plug the charging cable into the table and let it charge (do not turn it on), you should see an animated battery screen show up a few times, see if it reaches 100% in this "powered off" state.
if it does then that could mean there is an app running in the BG when it is started causing a lot of cpu load or keeping it awake..
I've so far had my tab 8.4 for almost a year and the battery is still holding up with 8-10h of runtime (depending on what I do). and it always charges to 100% using the samsung charger.

The chargers I tested were rated 2A, and their cables were 28/24 AWG. On my Dell Tablet, the same setup was giving me around 1300 mah. On the pro, most of the time the current didn't even get measured.
Tried the other things you mentioned. It charges, overnight, to 100%, but despite the factory reset, weird battery behaviour is observed: slow recharge, jumping from 93% to 100% the moment i connected it to the lappy to transfer data, etc.

You are using the Samsung charger?, I noticed with other chargers for some reason when the battery gets near full the mA drops to under 200mA and stops charging the battery or its just enough to keep the tablet running, this does not happen with the Samsung charger it mostly charges the tablet at 1880~mA, when its in the 90% range drops to about 600-800mA so it can still trickle charge the batt and provide enough power to keep it running.
I have tried other chargers like the 2A HP Touchpad Charger (was supposed to be the best charger out) and some 2A powerbanks - and they all fall short near 90%, just don't pull enough amps, I think the samsung charger has a higher voltage too 5.60v where the others are around 5.30v
btw I have an actual hardware mA cable that shows the current in realtime, I'm not sure how accurate the battery monitor programs are for android without root access, since without root I don't know how they read the system files.

Getting a slow current with the 5.3v samsung charger and cable as well. But yeah, using software (GSM battery, Ampere) to get the charge.

Hm I suppose the battery could of went bad if it wasn't being charged properly by some chargers for example if it was never reaching 100% then the system never shuts off the charging mechanism and will essentially cook the battery causing it to die faster then normal .
If you had root access you could check the status of the battery and it would report the battery info in stages - very good (brand new), good, bad, fail ..etc I am not sure if non root programs can access this info.
I guess there are a few extra things to try.
1. A new Samsung charger, it might be possible yours went bad.
2. re-seat the battery, though this requires opening the tablet possibly voiding the warranty or causing other damage - maybe take it to a repair shop if you have difficulties, from what I have read on this forum it has solved numerous cases like yours, not sure exactly what it does perhaps removing voltage from the hardware causes and glitches to reset like from accidental static electricity shocks or if it just re-calibrates the battery like it was replaced..etc, it might just be the connector comes loose, anyways it sucks Samsung didn't included a reset button since it's a needed feature for sealed tablets)

This is a fairly common issue on this device. Its a defect, I'm thinking its the "smart battery" circuitry on the battery itself (my understanding, at least some of the metering is done on the battery by this circuitry). I've had this problem for a while now. The issue was non-existent or rare at first, then got more common after owning the device for a few months. Haven't used any apps to measure the mA, but this is across 3 or 4 different chargers, 2 of which are original Samsung 2A chargers (had another one left from my broken Note 8). The issue also persists whether on stock ROM, custom TouchWiz ROM, or custom AOSP ROMs.
Sometimes the tablet will charge fully, no issue. Sometimes it will stop somewhere along the way (well short of 100%) and doing a reboot will usually get the charging "going" again. Sometimes I will need to reboot 3 or 4 times to get it charged to 100%. I've also tried factory resets, but its hard to say whether this helps or not.
Short of rebooting while charging, there isn't much I've found to help. I haven't tried opening the device to reseat the battery.
Maybe the usb port in the tablet has some debri in it. Try blowing it out with some cpompressed air. The symtoms sound like a faulty usb cable but if you have tried different ones it might be the port.

I'm pretty happy with the device so far, battery life is pretty god (at least for me). I tend to charge the phone every other day, however a couple of times battery has drained completely and after that it gets pretty difficult for the phone to begin charging the battery again.
Either pluged in or wirelessly, phone does not seem to "recognize" that it's being charged. (I've waited for about 15 minutes with the phone pluged in and it just won't charge).
This only happens on drained battery; I don't remember this being an issue on my old S8+.
Please let me know if anyone else has been having the following issue and if so, if you've found the cause or a possible solution (other than "not letting it discharge").

Hi Raul, yes original charger and cable, also wireless charger is Samsung's, but it's the one for the old S8/Note 8 line.
I remenber a similar issue in the days of the note 8, which refused to start charging after depleting the batt, now, just avoid going to zero, as it is really bad for any battery

From my experience,
with charging all my old Android devices,
when battery completely depleted.
I found this to be normal behavior.
Battery takes a quite while to "show" that it's actually charging.Even my old Galaxy Gear watch did this.
I also agree with @winol post that it's not good practice to let battery be completely depleted /flat

My T700 is now 5 years old and about 6 months back, it started showing issues with charging.
I've had it rooted and running on Lineage for a long time.
First signs of trouble rose when i noticed that my battery was discharging quite a bit.
Charging while turned on will not work as the battery was discharging more then it was charging and regardless of what charger/cable combination i used, it was the same.
While turned off, it would take 48 hours to go from 50% to 100%. Very very slow charging.
First thing i did was to change the battery.
I bought one of aliexpress for like 10usd that looked like the original.
Replaced the battery and it shows that the new battery only has half the capacity.
That was rubbish.
Googled for a more reliable battery and purchased a cameronsino one for about 30usd together with a charging port replacement part.
Fixed both in.
Good news, battery capacity reads as 4900mah.
Bad news, same charging issues.
I'm running out of ideas, so i bought a t700 mainboard/motherboard replacement off aliexpress for about 15usd.
Has good reviews so lets see if its some IC or chip on the mainboard that is giving these charging issues.
Will update this post when i receive and fix the new components

You didn't mention the charger or the cable. Both OEM? Try the charger/cable for your smart phone (if you have one).
FWIW, I can use my T700 indefinitely with it plugged into a USB 2.0 port on my PC.

both OEM and aftermarket ones tested.
tested on both stock rom and lineage.
screen off drain is 20% in 8 hours.
that is why i have decided that this more of a hardware issue than rom.
since battery and charging ports have been replaced, i'll wait on the motherboard.
For lite use,i just underclock my cpu 600mhz and gpu to 166 or 266 for about 10+ hours browser and about 6-7 of online video(all on wifi T805).I was able to monitor back on Touchwiz 6.0 how much the charger mA can send when tablet in use so i just lower gpu cpu clock,if i want higher performance just switch back to high clock.
UPDATE
Got my replacement mainboard and replaced it last night.
installed twrp, wiped device, installed lineage 14.1, installed magisk
all working very well. standby battery drain of 3% in 5 hours.
tablet good as new!
Hi, recently I replaced that battery of my mi9se by myself (so it is possible that I screwed up in some way), afterwards the new battery started to last incredibly less than before, having a very strange behaviour concerning its charge level: let's say the phone is charged to 100%, then in the next hour or so the battery drains normally, let's say to 80%, then it starts freefalling to 60/50% then the phone dies at 40/50%. When I connect the charger, apparently the battery is at a dead 0%, it takes very little time to recharge to 100% and the cycle continues.
Obviously this situation is not sustainable in any way, yesterday evening I was on a call with my gf, my phone died at 70%, I connected it to the charger and powered it up, as soon as it booted it was at 10%, then I disconnected it for flipping the connector and it died again... Another boot and it jumped straight to 43%. I don't know what to do...
The situation wasn't so critical at first, but I also tried to order a third battery, but the results are the same.
Another thing to note is that I also changed the charger pcb, the one onto it is soldered the usb-c connector, because it was flimsy af. I thought the cause of my problems may have been the crappy one, advertised as new but probably used, that I ordered from china. But I also tried to replace it with the old original one with no apparent changes besides the fact that now the charger doesn't remain plugged as an added bonus (that was the initial reason that led me to change it in the first place).
Software notes:
I'm currently running the latest official build of lineageOS, I could try to do a software update, but idk if it could change something...
I have root access with magisk (if some low level root operations are needed I should be able to perform them)
I was running Advanced Charging Controller (https://github.com/VR-25/acc), that I uninstalled yesterday when it came to my mind that it may be messing with the battery readings, but without success.
I should also note that I run several calibration cycles as advertised on many forums: charge to 100%, let it die by battery drain and charge it again to 100% without interruption and without powering it up. No improvements.
Sadly I study offsite and I left the old battery at home, so I have to wait till next friday if some solutions involve using the old battery.
Thanks for saving me and my phone, that, beside his battery, it still works like a charm! Switching to lineage seemed to give him another 2/3 years of life and I really wanted to keep it as long as it works.
