Wouldn't it be nice to be able to keep your screen to stay on, while reading for example, without changing your display settings? Or while showing someone else something on your phone without having to tap your screen every 15 to 30 second (depending on your settings) just to "keep it alive".
This thread is nothing more than a discussion of an idea of mine. Feel free to add your honest opinion and maybe even ideas of realization as I'm not well educated in the art of app development and maybe someone who likes this idea could put it into practise .
Let's begin:
The fingerprint reader is one of the most innovative features in the history of mobile devices. On most devices it work with nearly no delay and with Google's newest feature one can even swap down the notifications and the quick tiles.
How hard is it to implement the scanner into an app and assign different actions like "register as tap" or if it registers a double tap "switch to last app" ? (Not criticizing, it's really a question )
Those features would make my life much easier and would open up new possibilities.
I would like to see if it's possible to scroll pages with it too. I believe there is lots of room to grow with this.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
Or be able to go mimic the back button by swiped left to right or right to left.
I always thought it would be nice if you could use the fingerprint reader to answer a incoming phone call. Hopefully with this new actions we have in reader some of these things will be possible.
I think it would be nice to be able to scroll through your notifications and to be able to open the app that you select with the sensor. The stay on feature would be amazing as well.
If I could pull out the edge tray hamburger from a side swipe I'd be happy.
Sent from my Pixel XL using XDA-Developers mobile app
Most of the features don't sound too hard to realize, some of them may even appear in some future devices by Samsung or Huawei, but if Google could add native Android support, even lower priced models could feature some of those.... Hopefully this thread will be seen
I was also thinking it would be cool to have those features. I find myself tapping the fingerprint reader when reading and the page starts to go dark. Of course it doesn't do anything but wish it did. Don't know how the scrolling would work but that would be awesome too.
I'm surprised you can't even take a selfie with it. I thought this was an accepted use of the reader.
I would like to see the fingerprint lock the screen as well.

I find it odd that although you can pull down the notification shade with the fingerprint scanner it will not brighten the screen like touching it will.
Give it a go, wait for the screen to dim just before it turns off and use the fingerprint reader to pull the shade down, it stays dim...

I believe Google will add more gestures along with many featurea in future updates. I bet they make them Pixel exclusive though. Since samsung is seriously considering Tizen as an Android replacement Google is also going to make features exclusive to their phones. No OEM has ever utilized all the built in features of Android so what's the point in writing features no OEM is going to use. I hope Google takes complete control of Android so people can see what Android was meant to be. Not just a base for OEM's to mess up and layer their own crappy alternative software over the top. Since samsung likes to replace everything with their bloat they would probably see performance increases going the same route and designing the hardware and software. Too bad Tizen is horrid looking though. I think the era of one version of Android fits all is coming to an end. The new Google formula will be what OEM's also adopt, or they will be forced to just become "for hire" manufacturers like HTC. Remember when foxconn made hardware before becoming an exclusive iPhone manufacturer. Googles vision was that every device ran the same version but no OEM wanted to cooperate with them. So they are taking control of Android. Because of this I think we will see much more features and development for Pixel phones. Resulting in a better Android experience for the Android user. Flame me if you want, but this change is inevitable. And I'm on board!
As probably many already saw:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-fingerprint-to-unlock-t3466549/page24
I hope this new app will allow all features I asked for and will make its way into stock Android!
Any further ideas or discussions can be mentioned in the apps thread, this thread can now be closed, thanks for taking part :fingers-crossed:
Hello All! I currently own an LG V20 and am getting the Pixel XL in February (allegedly). One feature I will need a proper replacement for is the Capture+ app. If you have never used it, it essentially allows you to easily capture partial screenshots with ease. It pulls up four "handles" in the corners of a rectangle, and defaults to a full screenshot size. However, you can move the handles smoothly and quickly to form a smaller rectangle and any spot you'd like on the screen. It was much like the Note 5/7 in that you can get screenshots of only pertinent parts of the screen.
I believe in LG, it's a system app that cannot be downloaded. I'm fine with it being a normal app I need to pull out from the app drawer to accomplish this, but I cannot find any apps that do something similar. Does anyone know of any apps that do this? Any other suggestions for quickly getting partial screenshots? Maybe the Pixel XL has something built into it that I'm not aware of...?
Can't speak for LG, but I'm missing this feature too coming from a Note 4. Since getting this phone I am forced to take full screenshots only, even though most times I needed a small portion only. Would really like to know if there's an app or something for this.

What was it called in the Note? Like "Smart Capture" or something? That was really handy. LGs implementation is possibly even better. Both have their pros and cons.

Yes, Smart Select.
So I found a couple that are sort of nice... Not perfect but will do the trick for now. One is free. One is a paid app. Unfortunately, the paid one is much slicker (comes with 48 hour trial). I attached a screenshot with the two apps shown on my home screen.
Screenshot Crop and Share (Free)
Screen'it (Paid)
Other exciting screenshot capture options

I too wanna port of an app called "Smart Select"【https://youtu.be/OWcAeMXUuS4】 in Samsung S8 which can capture a small rectangular portion, capture in different shapes (predefined or using lasso tool), LONG CAPTURE and a GIF CAPTURE with various pro editing options.
If someone finds any app with all the above features, please reply!!!
48 hour trial would be worth it.
I know you can edit your screenshot and crop after, but be interesting to see what people find/recommend for a non native app
For those unaware, you can do this in Lineage without an app. Just add enable screenshot option in the power menu and then long press it and it will let you drag and select an area to screenshot.

The thing about the Samsung version of it is that the selection area let's you reposition then capture. Also has settings to share directly and cancel without saving. I believe right now the rom that does this natively is RR. It even scales the whole screen down so you don't have to drag to the very edge.
Did anyone ever find out about or port this app
I use fooview
Must say I am quite impressed with the View 20. Have been using the Pixel 2XL for the last 13 months so was quite apprehensive about switching phones, and there are certainly things I will miss from the Pixel ie dual front fitting speakers, Now Playing and monthly updates.
I find the screen on the View 20 to be very crisp, at least to my old eyes, in fact I find it to clearer than the Pixel. The camera is very good, though I need to play with the settings to probably get the most out of it. RAM management seems very good.
Notification light is tiny, and you need to be looking at the screen head on to see it.
FPS is very quick, and has worked 100%, though I must say most of the time I don't get a chance to use it as the facial recognition is so quick.
Am using gestures for navigating, very smooth, at least with the stock Launcher, not so much when using Nova. Whilst they work, swiping up to go Home always briefly brings up the multitasking screen before doing what it should. The one annoying thing is you have to be pretty accurate when typing on keyboard at the edges as very easy to end up swiping left or right which takes you Back.
There does seem to be one bug I have found so far, and that is when switching apps, if you tap on the app that is to the side of the screen, rather than opening it, it drops you back to Home screen.
Only other thing I can think of at this moment is I can't get any notification badge on Gmail, either on stock Launcher or Nova (and all settings are correct)
If anyone has any questions or anything you want me to try, i will do my best to help.

The international version launched only 5 days ago. Did you get a hold of one and if so, can you share where from and what price so it benefits the users here. I am considering purchasing one via a friend (who is flying) from China but he is unable to find the international version there. I am wondering if Google Playstore and subsequently Nova Launcher can be installed on the Chinese version.
It was the international version, purchases in UK from carphone warehouse. 8GB/256GB. On their website at £579.99. They charged me £549.99
Also comes with a free Honor watch (via claim)

Agreed with the OP. Just got the same 128 gig unlocked, a couple of days ago. Coming from an S8 over the last 14 months. Must say the V20 is an awesome device.
Using the stock launcher with gestures. As the OP said, Nova does not seem to work as smoothly with gestures which is a shame. However the stock launcher with app drawer turned on is very good. Only annoying thing is I can't seem to get rid of the hi search which activated whenever you swipe down on any of the home screens. I never use it but can't find a way to turn it off! Any advice welcome!
Anyway the display, design, price point, battery life, are very good value for money. RAM management also very good. Very impressed and would highly recommend to others looking for a good deal.
To the OP: I've not had any issues with Gmail. Might be a software bug. Try clearing cache and resetting it maybe. Return to default settings.
Thanks mate, will try that. Can you confirm the issue with the multi tasking page. When clicking on any app that isn't centre page, it drops you back to home screen?

Stock launcher gestures are definitely better than either Nova or Action Launcher (especially related to the minimizing app/multitasking screen issue - it's a shame that you can't modify the icon settings more than 5 x 6 to make the stock launcher icons smaller. They just seem unusually large to me coming from my Pixel 2 XL. Action Launcher is a good resolution for now (minus that multitasking screen swipe up).
Does your notification LED work either when the device is plugged in or when you receive a phone call/email?
I just received my version from the UK and no LED notification light ever comes on.

You need to download Magic AR app from Huawei app gallery to use that dancing trick with TOF Camera.
Oh, so the multitasking issue is connected with 3rd party launchers. Good to know. I was using Nova launcher and had this issue.
The notification light is working, but it's small, not very bright and ideally you would have to look at it dead straight or from the top of the phone.
I have other issue though: can't get Netflix to play in HD. This phone's Kirin 980 is officially supported by Netflix, but I don't get HD badge next to the titles unfortunately. Other user mentioned that it works, but not for me...
has anyone managed to restore saved wifi passwords? I got my OnePlus 9 Pro yesterday and instantly noticed that they modified the scrolling behavior / acceleration with the OnePlus 9 Pro. Scrolling now feels really slow, compared to the OnePlus 8 Pro, and the biggest problem is that it is not consistent between different apps. While on Chrome it is nearly as fast as on the OnePlus 8 Pro it's pretty slow in Google Play Store, Twitter, Google Feed etc.
Here is a screen record comparison between the two: OP9 Pro / OP8 Pro
Do you guys know if there is a way to mod that? I am also going to root my device, so if I need root to fix it that's not a problem.
Is there anyone else that noticed the same?

Sorry, I rephrased it, I wanted to say that if I need root that it is not a problem.
I don't have a solution for you but my experience is the exact same. The slow scrolling is a big issue for me, but I'd imagine it's a small tweak or update away from being fixed.
I noticed it to. I thought I was going nuts. Glad to see it is not just me. Hopefully this gets fixed because scrolling through my Google News feed is really slow now compared to my OP8 pro.
-Frank
This happened when the 8pro was released, they eventually fixed it after a few updates but for a month or so scrolling was janky.
Just installed the recent update and scrolling is much improved!
Build number
Oxygen OS 11.2.1.1.LE15AA
I've got the same scrolling weirdness on my 9 Pro - only in certain apps, like Outlook and the Google discover feed. Chrome and Gmail are fine. I got the latest update today and the scrolling hesitation is still there.
I'm sure this is one of those things that they will tweak over within the next couple updates they do. I personally haven't noticed it. Going from my oneplus8 pro to this phone now, but something to look out for.
It seems to be tied to the screen refresh rate. I enabled the Dev option to show the refresh rate and the apps I notice it the most in are the ones that run at 60hz
I was setting up the 9 pro next to my 8 pro and this was the first thing I noticed. But now, a day later it is as smooth as on the 8 Pro.
I have seen this too and for those that have do you all still have the factory fit screen protector on?

I have no problem on scrolling. have you try these setting: 1. in display setting -->profesional setting, set to 120Hz and resolution to QHD+ and turn off smart power saving at QHD+setting 2. turn on the overclock response tap
3. go to developer mode and set all visual effect to 0.5. Then restart your phone you should see the difference

Maybe I didn't search hard enough, but anyone know if it's possible to install the OnePlus launcher on the Pixel 6 Pro? I successfully installed, but it refused to load, even one install that was reported to work on any Android phone. I'm using ProtonAOSP with gapps.
I bought a Pixel 6 Pro out of love for its superior night camera which is fabulous for catching northern lights here in Alaska, but I absolutely love the OxygenOS launcher on my OnePlus 8 Pro. It's a weird request, I know.
All I have to say is,"why?"
Coming from One+ and Samsung..... All users flash roms to come to a Pixel UI and you want a OP launcher on a Pixel? I'm stumped
I'd recommend Nova7 as it's a better fit for phones than OP launcher.
If it's a tinkering matter I totally understand, but, OP on Pixel?
You can also try lawnchair launcher 12. I was missing a few things after moving from 1+ 8 pro to P6 but lawnchair did the trick for me. Basically a pixel launcher with some more customization.

Which features exactly are you looking for?
There are several available launchers on a Pixel, I can't think of any feature set that OP has that is not available, since you can customize about anything, including icons and how animations/gestures work.
As others have said. What's the point?
Anyway, installing the APK will not be sufficient as the OnePlus launcher also relies on a number of native libraries.
You will need figure out exactly which libraries and make them available in /system/lib(64) via a Magisk module.
Too much hassle for what ...
Specifically, I really like this one touch close all apps button. It's a good visual decluttering for me versus memory issue. If I feel overwhelmed by everything I have open, tap the one button and it all feels clean again.

I'll give it a look.
Closing the apps in that way is not recommended and actually worsens battery use. Doesn't do anything for memory use either really as the phone has plenty and manages it well enough. This is why it has been gotten rid of in later versions of Android.

Eh, I charge it enough. It really is more of a psychological visual decluttering for me. I know, it's really best to let Android manage your open apps.

Is there any launcher which has this feature?

It has a clear all button on the left most page of the app switcher.
Also has app locker function with fingerprint unlock.
Dev is really responsive on Telegram and the app receives frequent updates.
It's customisable - app icons support, grid options etc, loads of features including At-A-Glance and Google Feed etc. Been using it for a few years now.
