Question [Question] Where is the NA unlocked firmware? - OnePlus 9 Pro

I've read thread after thread and as best I can tell there is an EU version, a global version, an India version, and the T-Mobile version. The radios on the non-T-Mobile versions are different than the T-Mobile version (or so it seems).
What I have is a OnePlus Nine Pro from Amazon, fully unlocked, T-Mobile version. Works fine for me on T-Mobile. What I want is the unlocked firmware, as if I bought it in the US directly from OnePlus. Like the Nine that I got directly from OnePlus that I am returning because I want the telephoto lens and a couple other improvements the Pro has.
Since someone may ask, here is why:
Avoid bright magenta startup screen
Get patches more quickly
Get round icons
Debloated (esp. Qualcomm)
The feel of the phone, to me, is less than the Nine with stock unlocked firmware
The dialer is better on stock OOS 12
I don't want to lose the radio, I don't need an International version, I plan to stick with T-Mobile, so it seems like it should be easy, but I can't find the firmware. If the global version is the same as the unlocked, fine, but do I have to do weird things to keep the US compatible radio (like I read in various threads)?
Hardware version 22, software LE2127_11_C.19, if it matters.

Sorry, but if it is T-Mobile carrier, you have to unlock the bootloader with a token. There is a XDA thread on unlocking the T-Mobile bootloader if you are on a branded LE2127 model phone.

I'm asking about obtaining the North American stock unlocked version of the firmware, not about unlocking a phone that is "fully unlocked".

If you install any firmware such as the North American (Global) once the rom is installed you have to go into fastboot mode to unlock the bootloader. No rom comes unlocked....sorry!

This is what you want. Anything else and you risk breaking the radio.
Convert your T-Mobile (LE2127) to EU via MSM, No unlock.bin needed!

I'm confused. Is the EU version the same as the unlocked version as sold in NA directly from OPO?
[edit], Yes I had read that and don't want to have to screw around with the modems; on the Nine I had several OTAs after unboxing it, the modem just kept working (on T-Mobile, who is my carrier). That page you reference says "You must flash the T-Mobile modem after every OTA" which is not interesting to me. And it talks about dual SIM, which I believe the NA unlocked version does not have (at least the 9 does not). So there is a firmware out there, presumably, that is different.
If I spent the extra money that I don't have on a new Nine Pro straight from OPO, I'd have the firmware I want. Instead I need to flash it, which is no big deal, but I can't find it. And I wouldn't have the pretty blue color : )
Of course I assume my experience with the Nine is the same as the Nine Pro, software-wise.

I advise against this as I had used this and ended up with problems....search for the MSM Tool for unbricking a global device which is the same as North American..... Then unlock bootloader

But you can't use the global firmware on the T-Mobile 9 Pro without losing the radio I thought? I figured that was the whole reason nobody has made an MSM Mod to flash the T-Mobile variant with global instead of EU software.

The T-Mobile 9 Pro has a unique situation where it only works right with the T-Mobile modem. The T-Mobile 9 doesn't suffer from this issue and can use any 9 modem. The process here has been proven to result in a usable modem once the conversion is done. I don't believe the same can be said of using the NA global firmware.

This is what you need to do for the Global Firmware.

The word that keeps throwing me is "global". So if I spent the extra $300 and got it directly from OnePlus in the United States, I'd have the global firmware?
The few threads with "North American" aren't explicit [enough for my tiny brain].
I've been testing the (pretty blue) one I got refurbed, and it seems fine, so I'm keen to fix the issues I've mentioned, and I don't mind the work.
FWIW, most of the time I see "global" on xda, it is different from "U.S.".

It's Global due to it not coming preloaded with T-Mobile firmware. I believe the 2127 you have came sim and bootloader unlocked. I bought my 2127 directly from T-Mobile and had to request T-Mobile to sim unlock it and request a token to unlock my bootloader from OnePlus site due to it being directly from T-Mobile. So, when you convert it to the Global version it will remove the T-Mobile bloat.
9Pro directly from OnePlus site for NA is 2125 and for EU is 2123.

OK, so that's a "no", it won't be the same as the 2125, software-wise. It won't have the very bright magenta startup screen, it won't have the T-Mobile software pre-installed, but there will be differences (what?) from the 2125 firmware.
Right?
Is it possible to get/load the 2125 firmware?

Your phone will pretty much run the 2125 software when you convert the 2127. Won't have anything T-Mobile at all unless you install T-Mobile applications. The main advantage of it all is faster software updates rather than sitting around waiting for T-Mobile to update their software for 2127 branded phones. That thread I posted will help you convert your 2127 to 2125 (Global) BUT! Keep in mind to make sure you retain your T-Mobile modem.

OK, so it is "yes", but with a caveat for the modem. Which is weird because, as I understand it, the modem from OnePlus direct purchases would be fine and fully support T-Mobile. No way to get whatever that modem is [and have it work perfectly]?
Thanks for your time going back and forth, by the way.

The 2127 has a modem specifically with T-Mobile bands as I like to say built for the T-Mobile network. The 2125 has a modem that still works with T-Mobile, but doesn't have the extra bands that come with the 2127 modem. That's why you should retain the T-Mobile modem before converting to 2125

Out of curiosity, if you know, does this apply to the Nine (non-Pro)? I'm used to getting all the T-Mobile bands, until I hold on to my phone so long the network changes.

No, it doesn't apply to the regular 9, just the 9 Pro.

I bought the 2125 Pro for use on t-mobile USA and it has global firmware. I looked on the official OnePlus manufacturer tech specs and it has all the LTE and 5G bands that T-Mobile USA says they currently use in their support site. I don’t understand what this is about a special modem firmware for T-Mobile. Is there something I am missing here?

Bootloader status on Chinese device

Im waiting for my device to be shipped. The vendor sells a Chinese Whyred then installs global rom with play store. Does that mean the bootloader has already been unlocked? Can i use my Mi account with privileges to unlock it straight away or have to wait the 15 days?
Why didn't you just get a Global Version?

It says "China version global rom" quite a big seller on AliExpress. So I assume that's what they do. I don't mind, I was just wondering about the bootloader with all this. I wanted the 6gb machine which they didn't have in the international version
Yes it hard to get 64gb Global version as not many resellers stock it.

Are you not worried about the lack of Band 20 for LTE use there!
Your device will probably be fine in cities, but out in the country you won't get it.
Having Global rom, won't unlock more bands because it is hardware dependent.

Lol I know this. I'm not really bothered. I have global Redmi note 4 with band 20 but 4G still weak with my provider. I rarely use data and with oreo I tend to keep it on GSM/WCDMA to save battery
Edit. Well I've read around and about, apparently relocking the bootloader on Chinese device will definitely result in soft brick (which is music to my ears as I want it unlocked) except the guy via aliexpress chat said after flashing Global rom they relock the bootloader ><
Some partner has an account with permission to open bootloader? it has been reset and I have to wait 360 again

there isnt any working modem on 9.6.6.0.OEDMIFD
I tried the default modem, 9.6.12.0 (china modem), 8.8.30, 8.9.6, 8.9.13, 9.6.6.0 (china modem)
I tried changing the vendor partition which broke even more stuff.
Maybe @nijel8 havent checked under ground (parking lots), in door buildings, and more which make the signal so weak.
also there is no LTE/LTE+ on the 9.6.6.0.OEDMIFD
We need someone with the un-released 9.6.7.0.OEDMIFD to confirm this

Don't be so sure as we don't know 9.6.6.0 is broken. You've already said 9.6.4.0 is fake and that wasn't true.
You installation of 9.6.6.0 doesn't proof anything.
We know for sure many times problems are fixed by fastboot rom nad we don't have global fastboot rom released yet to test.
Yes, I haven't tested mine enough to know for sure it runs fine under different conditions so I will not say it has no problems, we've had enough rumors spread around... So let's just leave it to people who have more to say...
I'm on 9.6.6.0 for a week now as a daily driver, no problem at all. So, afaik, 9.6.6.0 is not broken.

I'm not sure if you are aware what are you actually using. The phone does not have NFC. https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_max_3-8963.php That is one of its weak point.
You cannot enable something by software if the hardware is missing.

I'm aware the version currently doesn't, and of course it can't be enabled without the hardware.
However, I was told by a retailer (who are selling 'global' units) that the true global version was not available yet, would be a distinct hardware version, and that it may carry both extra bands and NFC.
"I'm not sure if you aware" that other global versions of Chinese phones have added both an NFC reader and additional bands? It is not unlikely in this case.
I had asked them about the likelihood of a Max 3 Pro coming soon (and with NFC) as Malyasian / Indian e-tailers had re-added pre-orders for the Pro, with October expected date. They said they didn't know, but gave the above information about the global Max 3.

Well I did read about the device quite a bit but I haven't seen anywhere the global version would have NFC. I doubt Xiaomi would change the hardware in the global version. M3Pro on the other hand as you say may come with that but its up in the air yet...
It's rare that Chinese brands release any information ahead of availability of global SKUs, even if the hardware differs (which it not infrequently does).
We'll see.
The Max 3 is apparently among those devices that'll be officially available in European markets .. that makes it a lot more likely that bands and NFC will be added, as there have been in other phones.
I didn't think that there was any difference between the original Chinese variant and the International/Global variant which they began selling in Hong Kong, Singapore and the Philippines last week, but I was wrong. My Chinese Mi Max 3 arrived from tradingshenzhen with an unlocked bootloader and xiaomi.eu flashed as I had requested, and with xiaomi.eu 8.8.9 it works great. But a friend recently came home with a Max 3 purchased in the Philippines which is running v9.6.7.0.OEDMIFD (Global). When he goes to the Mi verification web site and enters his IMEI it says "you have a valid International Version". When I go to the site and enter my IMEI it says "you do not have a valid International Version and may encounter difficulties - please purchase from official distribution channels in the future".

Ok, I am getting irritated by you already...
Don't give your opinion on something you don't completely understand. As I said your installation procedure is so lame I don't even know how to say it without offending you. Believe me that is not my intention...
First you don't have global version and the OP question is specifically for that one.
Second you don't have fastboot global rom to begin with. There are so much more to the rom than what is it in the recovery zip. Otherwise Xiaomi won't be releasing both.
Third how do you know if Xiaomi didn't place some restrictions preventing Chinese devices running Global rom properly hence your problems...
So until you flash fastboot Global rom or better yet for this OP get global version try to not spread false information.
Peace...

New to Oneplus

Hello, I am soon to be new to the one plus scene, and had a few questions.
I got the factory unlocked 7t and plan on using it on tmobile. Am I going to have rcs messaging? Will it be limited in any way? Also I have read that you can flash to international from tmobile but can you go the other way? And final question going either way does it require root or anything or because they are stock images they work fine?
From what I can tell from where I purchased it says HD1907 which is the tmobile variant(or should be?) Listing and reviews say confirm getting the HD1907, and its factory unlocked without branding. Can it be branded? And I should be fine and able to go to international/de-brand if I decide to later?
Welcome to the OnePlus 7T, it's a great phone!
I suggest reading through this guide to flash from T-Mobile to Global: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7t/how-to/guide-t-mobile-brand-conversion-to-t4019495
It will walk you through the entire process of flashing your phone and (if needed) rooting it as well.
Personally, I'm a big fan of the All-in-One Tool found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7t/how-to/tool-tool-one-driversunlocktwrpfactory-t4103515
It does just about everything you could need in terms of flashing, rooting, returning to stock, etc.
No matter which guide you choose, both forums are very active and should be able to help you if you run into any issues.
In regards to the RCS messaging, you should be fine but don't hold me to that. I typically use Google Voice but I know that Google Messages supports RCS on T-Mobile.

First thanks for the quick response, as a past dev im familiar with xda and have been looking through the 7t section including those and im starting to getting familiar. Thanks for the recommend!
I suppose the question I still don't get is the listing is for a tmobile unbranded so does that mean its on global or not? is it on us, not global, but just not branded but other wise 99% similar to branded just lacks carrier apps? Is there a step in between carrier branded and global? Does tmobile varient + unbranded just means it has the straight from OP firmware? If thats the case does that mean it can accept the tmobile branded firmware? I know everyone is like go global it seems but just for the sake of understanding I want to know since its tmobile varient hardware can it go back from OP updates(if thats what its on) to tmobile? and still be bootloader locked?
seems like there is several steps
carrier branded > carrier unbranded(straight from OP?) > global
However the update on OP's site doesn't list a different global download? How do global users get the update? or am i missing that theres a us site section and a non us site section?
There are a few definite ways to find out:
Model Number: the T-Mobile version is HD1907. I have the International version (HD1905) which has dual sim slots (the T-Mobile version only has 1 sim slot available)
Is there a T-Mobile splash-screen
Are there any T-Mobile (pre-installed) apps
If you have the T-Mobile version, it will never have the original OP software unless you flash the International ROM.
It sounds to me like it's a T-Mobile version (HD1907) that's been unlocked and (probably) flashed to the International (global) ROM (which will get you the official OnePlus software as it comes without the T-Mobile carrier bloat, which is really pretty minimal. I think it was 2 apps when I had the T-Mobile OnePlus 6T).
If you decide to re-lock the bootloader, I'm almost 100% sure that you must be back on the original software that the phone shipped with. So if it's a T-Mobile version, you must flash the T-Mobile ROM before you re-lock the bootloader.
No matter which software you have, it's really pretty easy to go from one to the other, especially with the All-in-One tool.
Personally, I prefer the International ROM (or their Beta Channel) because of faster security updates.

There are essentially 3 ROMs direct from OnePlus that you could flash (aside from the T-Mobile version)
HD65AA Global (which is one I would recommend)
HD65AA India
HD65BA Europe
All of which are found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7t/how-to/oneplus-7t-repo-oxygen-os-builds-t3997037

So as long as it is infact a HD1907 I can use the builds here to go back to this models stock and then bootloader lock? would this be the best way to do so?
Edit: so the about info says HD1907 it didn't say tmobile when i started it the sim tray hold 1 sim. (just arrived) so I should be able to put it back on tmobile branded and lock the bootloader yes? I didn't actually confirm that its bootloader unlocked but im assuming since about info says its tmobile but appears to not be tmobile branded.(unlocked bootloader is only way that could all be true) The packaging was all completely sealed which is why im just a bit confused still as how it can be a tmobile variant but not be tmobile branded but also not modified outside of the factory?
so it looks like its 10.0.10.HD65AA rom, model HD1907, device state locked. so to go back to tmobile stock would I have to unlock? then do something like in this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7t/how-to/op7t-t-mobile-unbrick-tool-to-restore-t4004005 ?

I was able to unlock bootloader(not sure if i needed to but did) flash the tmobile branded from https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7t/how-to/op7t-t-mobile-unbrick-tool-to-restore-t4004005 after doing that I looked in bootloader and it says device status locked so im all set.(nice to know that I also have global as an option among others) Thanks again!

Glad to hear it went well. Aside from a more recent security update, I don't know if you'll see any difference between the T-Mobile ROM and the International (global) ROM so enjoy it.
I know some folks wish there was more development for the OP7T but it's really pretty solid. Oxygen OS is smooth and Android 11 should be available for it by the end of the year. That being said, I'd love to see how the Paranoid Android ROM runs on this device! Hopefully that'll come soon.

Restore 1905 to T-Mobile stock with locked b/l from global conversion?

I have a T-Mobile 7T 1905 converted to global firmware with an unlocked bootloader. If I were to resell the device I might want to go back to T-Mobile stock and relock the bootloader.
Is this possible? I gather that a full T-Mobile rom is not easy to find. Where in the process would I relock the bootloader. Tbh, after 7 years of rooting almost every phone I've owned, the 7T is a throwback to the days of my LG G2.
I won't be shocked if it's not possible to go back to T-Mobile stock. If I choose to sell the device I'll have to find someone who appreciates the superiority of the global firmware.
Just to verify, the T-Mobile model should be HD1907.
If so, check out this thread: OP7T T-MOBILE][OOS 10.0.10 HD63CB] Unbrick tool to restore your device to OxygenOS by Some_Random_Username
If you have the HD1905 (which is the international version) I'm a big fan of:
[OP7T] TOOL ALL IN ONE (Drivers|Unlock|TWRP|Factory Image|Stock Recovery) by mauronofrio
Hope this helps.

Yes, sorry. I should have said I have the 1907. I'll look into the unbrick tool. It sounds like what I need. Thanks.
It is very possible to go back to stock T-Mobile and bootloader locked as I have done so a number of times. Just use the same tool with files that is used to unlock and flash the 1905 version. I'm presently on my phone but will help out tomorrow if needed.

This will get you all the tools you need to get back to stock.
I also am on the converted TMobile --> International firmware. I was about to begin my search for this as well with the 8T pre-orders starting tomorrow. Bummer they aren't offering a trade-in for the 7T (or anything, for that matter). Looks like private sale is the only option.

I wish you luck. With Craigslist unappealing due to covid, Swappa is the best option. But there is a flood of these 1907s from business resellers, both sim locked and unlocked, all with T-Mobile firmware. None of them are selling the 7T with the warp charger, which is $30 if you can find it. So individual sellers offering all accessories stand out. Otoh, B&H is clearing out new unbranded 1907s, sim unlocked with global sw for $399. I would wait until B&H is sold out and then get yours sold before the B&H "special editions" start hitting the used market.

Every carrier? What? I know of 3 versions of a11 for the G8; 1) the korean Open 2) The Verizon version 3) The Canadian Open.
Hardly 'every carrier'. Updates are coming, slowly, and there is no guarantee any one individual carrier will update their software. That's an LG issue really, they have contracts with carriers with various stipulations that can affect say US Open version, which supposedly can't be updated unless all the other carriers update theirs first. It's complicated.
Call t-mobile, they can tell you when / if an update will be available. And of course, there's always the issue of what you've done to your phone. If you do something like unlock the bootloader, you won't get an update even if there is one.
cheers

ATT has also released A11 ? I've seen in some forums that it has.
For what it's worth on reddit T-Mobile users are saying they're getting the update. I can't speak for myself because I'm using a custom rom but yeah...it's out there

Actually, that's not the US Open variant, that's the CCA variant. I'm not sure what the difference is, maybe someone can elaborate.
The lg firmware site has it listed as the US Open, but download and compare the hash tags, they don't match. But if you download the CCA version the hash will match.
I've actually never heard of CCA before, it's Competitive Carriers Association, I've heard of BrightPoint, etc, but not cca. Until someone tries it, we're not sure which carriers it's compatible with re volte and vowifi type stuff.
cheers

My phone is originally BrightPoint. I flashed the US OPEN listed on the lg firmware site, hoping that it wouldn't throw up an NT ID error, but it does :-(
Additionally VoWiFi worked with the Canadian Open but it's not working with this rom. The default email app is also missing in the US version.
The software version shows as V30c-USA-XX, with a security patch of Dec '21.

Interesting that it's not working vowifi and nt error code, that should absolutely not be the case if it was the USA version, no way. At least not if you're here in the states.
Where are u using it? Canada? That might be at least part of the reason, have you ever used the a10 US Open there? How did that work?

Sorry for not clarifying earlier, I'm using the phone in India
To get volte and vowifi to work, I change the target region & country to ESA and operator to OPEN in cust.prop. And i also edit the carrier_code, telephony and vo_config files to contain details of the networks in India.
VoLTE has worked with many A10 roms, but VoWiFi worked for the first time with the A11 Canadian Open.
PS - Since I need an unrooted phone for Microsoft apps such as Outlook and Teams, I uninstall magisk after making these configuration changes.
