I've unlocked the bootloader, flashed TWRP through ADB, when I tried to wipe data/cache/dalvik it failed and I had to flash stock ROM using the official Mi tool (I think I accidentaly wiped system? I don't remember). it basically failed to mount partitions when trying to wipe and subsequently gave me "operation not permitted" errors. can I flash the custom ROM despite not being able to wipe partitions? is this a common issue?

I had to flash stock ROM because I couldn't boot into system or recovery mode ("system destroyed" error). I tried again after successfully flashing stock ROM and it worked this time. Can I just wipe partitions and flash the Gapps version of the ROM if I want to switch from Vanilla to Gapps? Or are there additional steps?

Follow this guide. Revert to the firmware from OOS 4.0.2, run the fastboot commands, then reflash OOS 4.1.0 firmware without booting into system.
The fastboot commands to disable dm-verity were disabled since OOS 4.0.3.
Or try this

Then the easiest way is flash firmware 4.0.2 then dm verity via CMD(look this up in XDA) afterwards flash firmware 4.1

Flash, wipe cache/dalvik, then reboot into system

Fastboot the stock boot.img to remove twrp. Then try using twrp version 3.3.0-0. You will still throw mounting errors when you flash zips, but it will still work :good:

On Android 10 the /system partition is locked at read only so it can't be mounted in TWRP as read write. To do a nandroid backup go to mount and select mount partitions as read only and check /system and /vendor then do the backup
