I ordered my Mi Max 3 from TradingShenzhen and chose the option to have them install the xiaomi.eu ROM. It arrived with TWRP installed, an unlocked bootloader, and xiaomi.eu MIUI 10 v. 8.7.26 installed. I downloaded the most recent xiaomi.eu MIUI 10 ROM (v. 8.8.23) and flashed it in TWRP.
Everything on the phone is working fine except for a persistent problem with calls. Within about 40 seconds of being in a phone call (whether on the phone or through the car's bluetooth) the party on the other side complains that my voice has suddenly changed to being very "tinny" and "robotic" and that they can't understand me. I hear them fine. At all times my signal strength is excellent. Depending on where in the city I am I may be on LTE or LTE+ with four or five bars but the problem persists.
Does this sound like a firmware issue or did I get a bad phone?

Try this fix from @ice0901: Hey I fixed it. Found a post on a thread that will enable VoLTE on Xiaomi Phones. Apparently they disabled VoLTE starting with MiUi 9 due to lack of certifications in certain countries, the US being one of them. To activate it dial *#*#86583#*#*
Thank you for your note. I used the secret code and activated VoLTE, but the problem persists. I called my telecom this morning and a few seconds into the call with tech support the chap said: "your voice has become distorted - I can't hear you" and then he hung up! I was thinking about using fastboot to flash the China Stable and then reflash the xiaomi.eu to see if that clears up the problem, but I am concerned about the announcement that beginning with MIUI 10 v. 8.8.23 "anti-rollback" has been activated on the Mi Max 3 and that you will brick your device if you attempt to downgrade. I also read on the xiaomi.eu forums that xiaomi.eu "disables" the anti-rollback features of the China development ROMs they use. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

Happy to help! Sorry you're going through so much headache. I would suggest starting over as you mentioned and doing the following from @omer1919's instructions from his nitrogen rom thread:
"I suggest to start clean again by flashing 8.8.9 fastboot and then follow the full installation instructions on op post
Installation Instructions:
- Make sure your bootloader is unlocked!
- Boot to fastboot mode
- Format your data to make sure that the installation will be clear using the command: fastboot format userdata
- Flash TWRP Recovery
- Boot to TWRP recovery
- Mount all the possible partitions
- Wipe your data, cache,Internal storage, dalvik DONT WIPE SYSTEM OR YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE
- Using MTP or OTG copy the xiaomi.eu rom to your device
- Flash the Xiaomi.eu rom
- Wipe cache and dalvik
- Reboot"
Can you tell us what carrier you are using? I also bout from trading Shenzen with the xiaomi.eu rom installed and had call problems at first. First thing I did was follow the advice from this thread. Flash the chinese fastboot then flash the latest xiaomi.eu rom. Then I enable voLTE by typing *#*#86583#*#* into the browser and now my calls work great!
My carrier is Telus (Canada). I followed the advice in the thread you linked (flashed China stable, re-flashed TWRP, etc.) then flashed xiaomi.eu 8.8.23 and this time my call problems were even worse. When I went to dial anyone the phone app would simply say (failed to connect). So I then flashed xiaomi.eu 8.8.9 which other Mi Max 3 users have commented is trouble free, and so far I've been making calls for the past hour to different landlines and mobiles and no call problems. Perhaps there is a problem with 8.8.23, but it is odd that more people haven't had my problems using that version.
UPDATE:
I have now had several messages from other Mi Max 3 users that 8.8.23 caused serious call issues and that reverting to 8.8.9 fixed all their problems. I have now had two days trouble free after reverting to 8.8.9 so I will wait for other reports before considering today's release of 8.8.30 (if it isn't broken why fix it). Besides, MIUI 10 beta testing is now complete for several devices so Xiaomi has begun releasing China Stable MIUI 10 ROMs as of today. I downloaded and flashed the China Stable MIUI ROM for my Mi MIX today and it is working great (despite the odd annoying menu in Chinese). Can't wait for the developers at xiaomi.eu to release their version of the China Stable MIUI 10 ROMs. If the Mi MIX (an older device) has a China Stable MIUI 10 ROM it can't be long before our Mi Max 3s get the stable version as well.
For those of you with call problems using xiaomi.eu MIUI 10 v. 8.8.23 finally an explanation from xiaomi.eu as to the cause. Xiaomi.eu has always 'stripped' the anti-rollback feature from China developer ROMs that they translate into European languages. For the Mi Max 3, 8.8.23 was the first China ROM issued with arb, so in their release xiaomi.eu stripped this feature from the firmware of the ROM. After so many complaints they realized that beginning with 8.8.23 a new modem (required for calls) was imbedded with the anti-rollback feature of that ROM, and by stripping the arb from the firmware you wound up with a ROM that included a modem that didn't work. So on this week's release, 8.8.30, they have left the anti-rollback feature in place, thus allowing the new modem in the firmware to permit normal calls. So you basically have two choices if you stay with xiaomi.eu on this phone - stay on 8.8.9 which is stable and has no anti-rollback protection, or upgrade to 8.8.30 but thereafter brick your phone if you attempt to re-flash an older version.
...then someone try 8.8.30 ? Resolved call problem ?
Can I reverse my actual rom 8.8.23 to 8.8.9 ?

First: mi global store is not official Xiaomi store, just a chinese guy, which sell Xiaomi devices from China.
Second: they unlock bootloader unofficial, which is a big problem.
In other words, you got a chinese Mi Max 3, with unofficial unlock bootloader and fake ROM. Buy official global version and anything works perfect out of box.
Plz how can I get official global ROM for my mi max 3. I am in Nigeria and bought the unlocked global version of the phone last two months, August. I need Ur help, pls
Hi friends,
Because lineageOS stop supporting xiaomi devices this month, so I decided to build LOS 16 ROM for sagit (Xiaomi Mi 6) myself.
I have some experience of using linux, but that is my first time to build an Android rom.
I follow the official guide to build. https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/sagit/build And I got the freshable zip rom "successfully".
However, after I install it via the lastest TWRP, it stuck on the boot MI logo and can not enter the system.
I ask one oneplus developer, he told me some xiaomi device need specific clang version, but he can not give me a solution. I come here and hope someone can give me some propose.
-----------------------------
update, I found los group ready the re-support xiaomi device. https://github.com/LineageOS/hudson/...f1e3492eacca83
But I still hope get some answer just for study.
Hi All,
New to the forum. A Hi to everyone.
I have bought an Mi 11X in India in very first sale and after setting it up realised it doesn't have Miui dialer and messaging app and instead has Google Dialer and messaging app. Google dialer doesn't save call records beyond 30 days and also doesn't have native call recording option without warning about call getting recorded and I am unable to move messages from my previous Redmi 8 device to this device bcoz of no Miui Messaging app in Mi 11x.
Can someone please suggest how to get Miui Dialer and messaging on my Indian Mi 11x handset. And also let me know how do I unlock bootloader as Miui global forum is blocked in India foe access. Cant access the forum and hence cant place request for bootloader unlock. Please help me. Thanking in advance.
you can record call with Google Dialer or Google Contacts whatever you call that app there's a Magisk module for it just get rooted via Magisk

Its not just about call recording facility. Miui Dialer is more feature rich than google dialer. Like unlimited call history vs 30 days call history. Messaging app is also very user friendly of Miui. I just want a way to get Miui Dialer n Messaging app on my Mi 11x. Either by some apk install or via some other ROM flashing.
im not sure if this helps but maybe you could try installing them from apk mirror, hope the apps work tho.

Solution is to move to XIAOMI EU ROM. Weekly and stable both have MI dialer installed.

You get OTA for both EU rom, weekly and stable, but because a working recovery to handle that is not yet available we still have to do it manualy via fastboot.
Accept it for some time or stand by.

So to manually update the next update, do I have to repeat the process of unlocking Bootloader and flash the update file? Wouldn't it erase my data??

Everything is automatic once you first installed EU rom.
Bootloader stays unlocked until you relock it with MIFLASH rom.
Your data are going to be erased by force because you need to format data at first install and only here. Make them backed up.
I have successfully unlocked my device and have downloaded Miui 12.5 HMK40 ROM from xiaomi.eu forum and setup phone in fastboot mode and extracted the fastboot miui 12.5 ROM and ran the file "windows_fastboot_first_install_with_data-format".
The command prompt windows launched and I entered Y to proceed installation of ROM. Its been more than 30 minutes and I am stuck at "sending sparse super 4/7 (775048kb)"
Please someone help.

I closed the command prompt window by clicking "X" on top right corner and again started the process by running the file "windows_fastboot_first_install_with_data-format" and now I am stuck at "sending sparse super 1/7" which earlier took only 50 seconds and now taking ages.
Faced errors multiple times but after trying to flash three to four times and changing USB port, I was successful in installing the ROM. Thank you to the community for help and for encouraging to try installing the ROM.
My last genuine query, sorry if I have been too curious about things. I have successfully installed EU ROM. Now
1) Can I lock the bootloader again and whenever there is an update just flash it without the need to unlock bootloader again??
2) Say a Recover ROM gets released in near future, do I have to again flash it a New?? I mean complete format? Or can I just upgrade to it without loosing data and without full format??

You have better to boot latest TWRP and install EU zip with it.
Just check the digest file in the rom zip if it take care not to reject aliothin (your phone).
That's what I did on F3 .
Great rom for my today use.
EDIT: You can NOT lock your bootloader under EU rom, you need to flash an official fastboot rom via MIFLASH.
Take care to flash the same region rom as your phone was first.
But, Stay unlocked that's better if you can.

U can lock ur bootloader only if u have the original ROM region the phone was build for (EEA, MI, IN, ID etc). So, never lock bootloader if u had Indian stock ROM and u flashed EEA or other region build.....most probably ur phone will get hard bricked. Also, never lock bottloader if u flashed any custom ROM (xiaomi.eu, CrDroid, Arrow etc)....not sure if this is even possible, but still
Hi,
I received yesterday a new Mi 10T Pro and tried to update to newest MIUI. I'm on 12.0.19 MIUI and system doesn't see any update. I tried to install via zip file (3 dots etc.) but every file i download (starting from 12.1 an ending to 12.5.7) ends with package verification: "You cannot flash this stable firmware".
Like I said - phone is new, EEA. I tried lot of files, option with VPN, change Regions.
Can you help? I don't want to send for guarantee cause problem with update...
I sended for guarantee and they updated phone to the newest MIUI (but I don't know details where was a problem and how they solved it). On Monday phone should return to me and I will check with next updates if it helps. I hope there will be no problems with update to MIUI 13 when it comes.

Apparently Xiaomi stopped the OTA from A10 to A11. You'll need to unlock the bootloader and update the rom, then relock it if you want.

There are two different models (different chipsets)
- Mi 11 Lite 5G NE (Lisa)
- Mi 11 Lite 5G (Renoir)
But there is no Mi 11 Lite 5G (Lisa) - hence please make sure which model you really have.

When you read the instructions on Xiaomi eu, you will see that for Lisa you have to use a particular Orange Fox custom recovery (not TWRP):
OrangeFox-R11.1_2-Unofficial-lisa.img
There is actually a dedicated thread right here, on XDA, Lisa subforum, for that Orange Fox
It properly decrypts A12 storage and it is NECESSARY to be able Xiaomi.eu recovery type either Stable or Weekly for Lisa
But again, sorry, please take a time and start reading/learning there. You will see there that you have to start by unlocking your Bootloader

In short, you will have to:
- unlock Bootloader (nothing custom could be flashed with the locked BL)
- Temporarily (one-time) boot to Orange Fox:
fastboot boot <OF IMG>
- It will boot to Orange Fox (OF), you have to type-in your Android screen unlock pin (needed to decrypt your storage)
- Navigate to the downloaded Xiaomi.eu Stable or Weekly ZIP (must be recovery type - all Weeklies for Lisa are, and only the latest Stable for Lisa is) and flash it
- Then you have to Format Data (Wiping is not enough), from OF (without, you'll have a bootloop) and then reboot to Xiaomi.eu
- Xiaomi.eu will (as part of its own installation) permanently flash Orange Fox, and in future it's upgrades will go like OTA (by use of the OF) and you will further no more need to Format Data (unless you decide to switch to a different ROM, like back to stock, switch between Stable and Weekly, etc)
Furthermore:
- Orange Fox, Sky Hawk Recovery Project and other custom recoveries (forks of TWRP) all use TWRP backend, just try to make more modern and better user-friendly UI.
If you are familiar with TWRP, you will need few minutes to investigate what new and different you see in OF or SHRP
- Official TWRP.me does not support A12 yet (does not support generally and they say that on their main page, not just particularly for Lisa), and for Lisa I don't know for any other (or better to say better) custom recovery than that OF - I tried couple of them
---
Btw, it is also not official OF for Lisa (official OF does not support A12 decryption since official TWRP does not yet either), but believe me, that OF, wherever it comes from (4pda) is good - and your only reliable choice for Lisa with the MIUI 13/A12 (even if you stay on stock MIUI but want to have 'TWRP')
Btw, there are Chinese unofficial SKKK TWRP builds for a couple of other Xiaomi devices that do support A12 (and they are needed for those Xiaomi devices when installimg Xiaomi.eu recovery type ROMs), but SKKK guys did not develop TWRP for Lisa
Btw, for Renoir (Mi 11 Lite 5G but without NE in the name), there is not known any working custom recovery for MIUI 13/A12, hence Xiaomi.eu ROMs for Renoir are all Fastboot types (they have to be unzipped and flashed from PC by using the batch scripts found in the unzipped archive)
Recovery type Xiaomi.eu ROMs do not have those bat (or alternatively sh scripts for Linux PC) and can only be flashed through the appropriate custom recoveries (those SKKK TWRPs for most devices, and OF for our Lisa)
Fastboot type Xiaomi.eu ROMs can be recognized by having the word fastboot in their long zip file name
Posts #1 in the Xiaomi.eu Forum (Stable thread and Weeklies threads) contain a table where the first column lists supported Xiaomi models and the last columb says if the ROM is Fastboot or Recovery type

Not really short but I really appreciate it. Well explained

Never heard of that problem. For Xiaomi.e, that is the custom recovery they flash in, nobody reported like that
You could ask in the OF thread, here on XDA, under Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE - but make sure you are on that phone (Lisa), not Renoir (without LE in the name)

I had to take the long way around lol. I was on PixelOS so that was causing the problem. I resolved it by installing the fastboot rom then flash orangefox and then flash the recovery rom . I'm on Lisa for sure
