Mic works in WhatsApp but not Phone/Dialer. For others to hear me in Phone/Dialer I have to use speakerphone. I think the Mic hardware seems to be unaffected, but it's a software issue. I was able to flash CrDroid 8.5/8.6 and things seemed to work fine without NikGapps, but once Gapps were installed things broke. After that even flashing CrDroid w/o Gapps didn't fix the phone. I tried going to MIUI EU but got stuck in bootloop. Was anyone able to bypass this issue?
FW: V13.0.3.0.SKHMIXM but tried V13.0.2.0.SKHMIXM on ArrowOS 12.1; also tried same firmwares on CrDroid 8.5 and 8.5
Does Dialer have the necessary permissions?
If you got a bootloop with Xiaomi.eu, you did something wrong. Did you do a clean flash?

Dialer has Microphone and Contacts permissions. Anything else that it needs?
I did clean flash Xiaomi.eu format then flash through TWRP.
Usually this is a sign that you have a damaged microphone (phone has 2). Because the dialer is MONO, it only uses one microphone.
Try to record a video and make sounds on the left side and right side. Listen to the video with headphones and check if both microphones are working

So, I completely disable the Google app and removed microphone permissions (amongst other annoying permissions the app seems to come preinstalled with). I just took a phone call over LTE and the microphone surprisingly worked fine.
Appreciate all the help in getting this to work!
Well... I'm impressed
Good job in finding the root cause!

Hi there
When recording videos with Snapchat, the sound is way too quiet. When using other apps like voice recorder or the camera app, it works fine. I also recently replaced the battery cover
I suspect the issue is something regarding which microphone Snapchat uses. Maybe the the mic doesn't function properly without the noice cancellation mic, which Snapchat may not utilise etc.
Does anyone else have this issue? Does anyone know how to fix it?
heres some more info on the problem: snapchat only records audio with the top mic on this phone, which is probably supposed to be used for noise cancellation. this issue is not apparent in all non-sense roms, like cm10.2 and aosp based romps; the mouthpiece mic is used to record audio so the audio works fine. but then in custom roms the camera profile is different, so it is not possible to record 10 second videos in snapchat. it stop recording at about 6 seconds. heres more info on the 2nd issue: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-2343.
Thanks

Heey .. I've the same problem with my HTC ONE X ... this is what I dislike about Android in general, each phone has its own running kinda system, yet all android apps are the same in every device despite the differences.

Unless you own a Nexus, GPe, or soon a "Silver" certified device. Something maybe to consider when purchasing my next phone
Today I downloaded a dB meter app from Play Store, and I wondered why it didn't work, then I found out that it wasn't the app's problem but the phone's.
I tried other apps from Play Store that use the mics including Recforge, Sound Recorder, etc but still no sound signal coming from the mics, and yes, calling doesn't work. (Using headphone/earphone with plug-in jack works.)
An interesting finding is that when I tested with Shazam, after I pressed the turning Shazam logo, it almost immediately told me that no song was found, it was like whenever the app detects dead silence in the first 1 sec, it just gave up listening any longer.
I was using BlissPop so I switched back to stock-based SuperZen, suspecting it is ROM related problem but still no luck, still dead silence
Then I even switched to Latest WW Official Stock, but when I get into the test menu via the calculator app and performed the two mic tests, both of them failed. (I'm sure that it is not the speaker's problem)
So, I wonder if I can safely say that the phone's microphones are hardware dead now, if it is true maybe I will be sending the phone to repairment later next week. Or is it possible that it is some deep level software problem that I'm not aware of?
I have doubt because all other components are working except the two mics, and I think it is pretty abnormal for two components at two different side(top and bottom) of the phone to hardware malfunction at the same time. (Also because of the Shazam app's behaviour)
Thank you.
(English is not my first language so please forgive me if I sound rude or awkward )
Hi, have you resolved the issue?
Hi comcraizer,
did you find a solution to this?
Thanks.

I also have a problem with mic in Skype only when using speaker phone, regular phone works fine with speaker phone. This happens only with the mm bootloader on every ROM, worked fine on lp bootloader with any ROM. Anybody else have this issue?
Just recently I have experienced a strange issue that whenever I record the video, afterward, I get no audio when I play it back.
The mic works flawlessly when I make or receive a call no there's no issue with the mic.
Here's what I've tried so far:
1. Flashing Stock ROM and the LineageOS 14.1 .
2. Changing many camera apps on playstore to record the video.
I have never used a Bluetooth headset with my phone so that also eliminates the possibility.
Can anyone figure this issue out as I am kinda confused whats wrong with this device...
Thanks!
So I'm having a really strange bug and don't know what to do as I'm not willing to reflash phone right now.
My media sounds are not working anymore, when I try to play a youtbue video, Spotify, Mp3, any webpage with sound on it, I just can't hear anything.
Volume is fine, speaker is ok as I get sounds from notifcations, I can also change the ringtone and hear the sound perfectly, but if I choose an mp3, it's just silent.
Everything is fine with a Bluetooth headset. I was on Pie Beta, and this bug came on it's own like 2 days ago. I'm on Pie since the beta was announced 1month ago or something like that. I tried to update to the latest Pie build and problem persists.
I don't really know what to do expect flashing the whole rom and factory reset but I'd like to avoid that, so if anyone has any idea, that would be appreciated.
Edit: Nevermind, just found the problem : I installed Magisk module to enable APTX-HD, and for some reasons that's what caused the problem. Removing the module and everything is fine. Just tought about it when I posted the message.

Dirty plug. Corroded plug, etc. Check the plug and clean it, also check the inside of the plug, and clean it.

I'm facing the same situation: after July update headphones are not working as it should. First I thought my left earbud or some internal part of the phone was broken but now that you said, it make much sense. I just tested my earbud on a different device and it works properly. (I'm using the same earbuds since day one with the phone). I cant imagine what it could have happen besides a july update issue.

Did you update to the latest august version yet? Is the problem still there?
If the problem still persists, go to accessibility settings, switch sound to MONO, that should level out both channels. If the problem still persists, the problem is hardware. If it doesn't switch mono off, and check the balance settings in any Sound FX app you may have on your device.

Installing the Sony Music from Play store revealed a hidden SoundFX app. Maybe something messed with that. Download the Sony Music App, go to settings and click on Sound Effects, or whatever the function is called. Check the balance volume from there.
Also, try installing Noozxoide from app store, I use that for audio reprocessing and I'm extrmely happy with it, maybe that could reset the volume through reprocessing.
Also, what do you use to listen to music or sounds? Maybe that specific app has balance settings and got messed with.

I use spotify and I don't think that app can mess up with my volume balance
