I was wondering which One is better forum the mi A2 lite
i think mi a2 module is beter for low light photos if u use in manual mode but gcam goes all the way ?
Ive tested many camera apps on mi a2 lite and I think that the pixel2mod v8.2 is the best ( need the camera2api enabled )
I like the gcam. But if you zoom in, the photos always have more noise (this sandy effect the high ISO makes) and, therefore, lower quality pictures. But better color treatment. So, overall, I'll say that the MiA2 module is better than the gcams I've tested.

for me I didnt have any problem with OTA updates!! Camera comes first
I think tha there is a method to install OTAup even you root your phone. follow this guide created by @BubuXP https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/guide-install-magisk-proper-support-ota-t3836952

The OTA update from July to September was working without problems here with Camera2 API enabled.
Btw, also using gcam 8.2 by Arnova.
Going back to the thread question...
After a few days of regular use (not testing use) I choose Mi A2 camera with no doubt (I don't use the front camera, and I don't usually take pictures to people). I'll keep both cameras because they offer different functions, but I'll never shoot with gcam HDR (which is suposed to be it's strenght). In the gcam R5plus_fix_crash (the one I use now), it is extremly bright (burned photos) and there is a lot of noise in the picture. And with the Arnova8G2, it takes forever to process after taking the photo. I haven't had any issue with the A2 camera. However, with the A2 camera, there isn't much diference between pictures shot with HDR or wthout it.
Is there any working GCam mod available for the MI 9 SE?
I tried several versions, only some of them work partially - night mode is lacking as hell.
Reminds me of the MI8 before they implemented fixes for it in the official ROM.
Did some1 have any more luck with a working version?
Camera2API is enabled and fully supported says Camera2API Probe app..

Do you know what those settings would be?
Go to BSG mod settings-->Fix
Sett buffer fix to On
Image format JPEG (Need mi8)
Add aux to camera switch On
This is what I set
thanks, it works with such settings. I tried a night mode photo and the quality is improved a lot respect to miui camera

Thank you it works. Any ideas how to switch to the wide angle or telephoto lens?
Yeah, a wide lense support of the gcam as seen on the MI 9 and the LG Series would be really helpfull!
any news on this topic ?
try this, works for me

a general question: how do we ensure that there is no nasty trojan or spyware in those apks ?
is there a way to sandbox those apps ?

I would like to post some pics but somehow I cant
so... no progress here, right.
i tested tons and several of modded gcam.. with none of them night mode is working properly. it just struggles around after 2sec and is not usable.
strange the the normal mi 9 has a working version.
is there something missing in case of firmware xiaomi has to patch to make it work? just asking because this was the case on mi8 and mix2s.. after a patch from xiaomi gcams were surprisingly working..

cmiiw, mi 9 se required gcam that has 'Frame Buffer' fix on it. Maybe that was firmware problem or maybe something else... ??*
uhmm no. not correct. buffer fix works indeed for normal gcam usage.. ut the buffer fix doesn't apply to night mode.
Can someone do a little comparison between stock camera and GCam? With some sample. This could be awesome.

I'd also appreciate this. From what I gather too, the gcam works fine in all functions other than night mode?
A quick comparison from my sofa.... both shots attempted to hold same position, with the focus on the nearest point of the lip of the cup.
Xiaomi.eu 9.5.9 shot on 48M camera mode - link
MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V2e.apk shot on 48M HDR+ camera mode - link
The default settings with Xiaomi camera produced 6000x8000 13.5MB JPEG, on gcam 3000x4000 2.0MB.
Colour reproduction, contrast and detail is so much better with HDR+ processing using gcam camera. This is typical of what I find when comparing gcam to xiaomi camera app.

You have to find the right config file, makes the difference between 12meg pics and 3meg. I went through 10 different camera apks and 30 different config files till I found one that has working EIS.

I may disagree with you, slightly. While MIUI camera isn't really great, it isn't trash.
I've also gone through quite a few gcams and configs. It's a hassle for the average user. Not all sensors work great on all configs. Also, sometimes not all modes work good. HDR+ enhanced may improve details (especially for macro and ultrawide), but it takes longer time and introduces some artifacts in some instances.
On the other end, MIUI camera takes instantaneous shots that look good on most occasions.
If you ask me, the average experience is the same in both cameras, one compensates for the other's shortcomings.
For anyone interested, wyroczen's 6.1 reborn has bufferfix even for non-rooted devices. And builds based on gcam 7.3 are mostly stable and capable of utilizing all sensors. Configs differ in number of stacked photos, color reproduction and detail/noise processing, and it's mostly a matter of taste, you can even make your own.

Don't get me wrong, the stock MIUI camera is ideal in terms of functionality, ease of use and quality, but if you're not running the stock ROM, the alternatives are decent. I have one app for video with EIS, one for night time shots and one for pics. Slightly inconvenient to switch around, but it's a small price to pay to run an unmolested AOSP A10 GSI ROM.

That's exactly my point, glad we're on the same page
In order to compensate for stock camera performance, you'll go through a lot of trouble, which is why a good stock camera port should also be an option.
As for me, when i used AOSP, I'd add a lot of mods through xposed and magisk. MIUI already has them so I guess this time I will pass.
As a number of people have commented here-- be aware that the MIUI 12 stock cam produces DRAMATICALLY better photos that MIUI 11 did, particularly in indoor/low light situations. The results rival Gcam, without the fuss. And MIUI 12 itself is very good.
Tryed to search to see if there is a gcam app yet...came up empty I think it would help the camera out a lil.s.not that it horrible.but just enjoy gcam for some reason!

Just leaving my comment here so i hear if there is any activity here, I tried all of the BSG and urlyk builds but viewfinder freezes after 3 seconds. Bummer, camera is really great, but falls apart in night shots
Yes same experience here. viewfinder freezes after 3 seconds. tried almost 20 different gcam from different modders. it just freezes. hopefully soon we see the working one.
Same here hopefully someone figures out how to stop it from freezing!
Try selecting Session of photo modes as EISv3/61448 or even EISv2/61444 for main lens, it might work. Try on other lenses too see if works. Of course, use a GCam that has this option, like BSG.
This works on A52s which is a new Samsung phone with similar issues as Z fold 3, such as GCam viewfinder freezing and camera not working at all while bootloader is unlocked.
Maybe these two issues regarding cameras are related!

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately it didn't work - tried both session modes.
The search continues...
It is possible that it doesn't work because of proprietary code for the under screen camera that Samsung has might just break any other app.
Don't quote me here, as I'm still looking into the whole camera situation, but I do know that there is specific code implemented for the USC in order to make photos look acceptable with a pixel layer over it.
OK, so far the only one I can get to work is the gcam go versions like https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog1529/
But they are have basically no features worth installing for. But they don't freeze, so I guess it would be a starting point...
Hi
who has got a staple mod for this phone?
All cameras should work.
Flash is important.
I find bsg v8.7.250 quite reliable but quality is unstable.
Maybe a well written config file can help?
If any one here has a hint on how to get the best out of this phones camera, please let me know
OG honor camera on v6.0.0.180 sucks In pro mode, blurry and noisy. No matter the setting or camera used.
Big kaka works great, and working on all lenses too, change interface to pixel 3 XL, and increase the exposure by 2.5 stops so picture is not dark.

not sure if it's better, I'm just more used to LMC as I've used it on my other phones.
It should work after installing, but if you want to use the Telephoto and Ultra-wide then you can import the config I attached to this post.
Put it in internal storage/LMC8.4 folder.

OIS (on telephoto) doesn't work in any GCam port on this phone. Honor must have blocked it from being used in third party camera apps.

The GoogleCameraEng one. With this phone the package doesn't matter apparently, because the ultra wide and telephoto are detected. It's just that the OIS doesn't work on tele, no matter what.
Ois seems to be working on lmc, with this xlm.
Try this xlm
In addition camera settings change the tele cam from 3 to 4, in list id
If it's dark adjust exposure to +2
All cameras are working
Ois is 100% working on tele, I can tell the difference between the tele and and normal 1x which does not have ois
In LMC tweaks make sure ois is checked
Wide, ultra wide and tele
