Hi everyone, I've been a HTC10 owner for quite a while. When HTC decided to stop updates to Oreo, I decided to unlock the bootloader, flash a twrp and install some AOSP roms, based on Android 10, Android 11 and even Android 12, all found here on XDA. A few days ago I decided to put back the stock rom (with the flash method via sdcard) leaving the bootloader unlocked and S-ON. The flash is successful, the only thing that doesn't work anymore (it's not that it doesn't work, it doesn't detect it at all) is the fingerprint sensor (the option in the settings is missing). This happens both with Rom stock and with Rom on a sense basis. If, on the other hand, I flash a Custom Rom based on AOSP again, the sensor works again in an excellent way. What do you advise me to do? is there a way to flash the stock firmware with the whole rom? Like RUU? I accept any advice. I can do anything, the only thing I don't have is S-OFF.

Hello,
Picked up my OP3 on Monday (Contract with o2 in the UK) and itching to flash a new ROM. Just has a few questions.
Does the all in one toolkit still work? Comfortable with adb and fast boot but toolkit is obviously easier and quicker.
Currently running latest firmware is there any precautions to take when flashing ROMs etc? On previous devices it's been a simple boot into TWRP/CWM, wipe, flash ROM/gapps and happy days. Are all ROMs compatible?
Noticed OnePlus don't consider unlocking a bootloader and flashing etc worthy of voiding a warranty- does this mean if anything did happen at some point and I was running custom ROMs that o2 will still repair it or do they not follow OP's after care? Whilst im on this topic; Can you relock the bootloader with ease if anything was to happen?
Finally which 7.X ROM is the most stable with good battery life and plenty of features? Personal favourite has always been PACman but haven't had a chance to scroll through the current ROMs for this device yet. On my G3 many custom ROMs which weren't based on stock had terrible camera quality, is this common on the OP3 too?
Thanks,
Curtis
1. Yes the toolkit should still work
2. Flashing roms is the same as all other devices
3. If the problem was not caused because of the custom rom the they will repair it for you i guess.
4. And as far as battery life is concerned it is determined more by the kernel than the rom. I would recommend exkernel and official cm14.1
Thank for your reply!
Another question haha, can I just unlock bootloader, load up TWRP, boot into recovery, wipe, install any ROM and I'm golden? Saw a few threads say firmware X.X.X aren't compatible and you need to jump to X.X.X for it to work as well as some fingerprint problems occurring if not using a certain build?
Just wondering if the above is all old stuff that has been ironed out haha
Thanks
If your flashing cm14.1 based ROMs then you would need to flash correct firmware which would be in installation instructions or help threads but oos stock based ROMs will have everything included
Hello
I have a HTC10 bought from official distribution in Europe, Poland, polish telecom operator.
I am currently on Android 6.0.1 (1.95.401.4). Plan to wait for OTA with Nougat and after this, unlock my phone and install TWRP and maybe a custom rom. Since last time I rooted anything was almost 5 years ago, and I heard rumors or true statements, that rooting HTC10 can mess up my encryption I want to find some simple answers to my lack of knowledge.
1. Is it possible after unlocking and rooting or installing custom rom to fall back to my original software and state out of the box, so the HTC service center will service my phone under warranty without noticing anything?
2. Does unlocking and flashing custom rom like LeeDroid mess up or disable entirely Encryption feature? I want to use it.
3. Do I need to s-off to flash custom rom like LeeDroid or similar?
4. If I need to s-off, can I go back to my out of the box software version and lock my phone so the HTC service center will repair it under warranty?
5. How to check what "version/edition" of european HTC I have to download a proper RUU for my phone in case something goes wrong?
I know that flashing anything is connected to wiping my data, that is not a problem.
1. yes, you can go back to complete stock. bootloader unlocking is covered in warrenty
2. Encryption is not messed with, stock you will be encrypted always. with custom roms like leedroid and viper you have to option to turn it off or on. Currently with android N and custom roms you need to run without encryption at the moment for everything to work properly. this is only temporary and only if you want to run N currenty.
3. no, s-off is needed for downgrading firmware or using different firmware then your suppose to most of the time.
4.yes again, this is pretty much same answer as #1
5. hold down the volume down button and power until you boot into download mode. it will display your proper model number and current firmware version
Thank you very much for your answer. I do not plan to flash Nougat right now, I will wait for official release via OTA, after than I will check for custom rom if it supports encryption without problems and then flash it.
So I recently purchased a brand new HTC M8 & the first thing I did was install TWRP & Custom Oreo ROM. However, I was not very impressed as two of the things I was looking forward to took a major hit - audio quality & battery drain on certain camera based apps. However, while most devices are very easy to return to stock ( I have experience with Samsung, OnePlus etc.) I cannot find a definitive guide that can help me restore to the last marshmallow update with stock firmware & recovery. Every online tutorial I try seems to work halfway and then the files wont flash etc.
Does anyone have a proper surefire way of bringing it back to stock. I would appreciate it alot.
Also its M8n (Euro Unlocked Version) it came with S-Off from the factory. It had Kitkat on it when I wiped it.
Thankyou
First of all, if you made a TWRP backup of your stock ROM (before flashing custom ROM); then you can just restore that to get back to the stock ROM. If you didn't make a TWRP backup, then you should have. This is a fundamental best practice when modding these devices. I find it surprising that so many folks skip doing this. For that matter, do not do anything to your phone without beforehand knowing how to reverse it (go back to stock).
Luckily, there is a collection of stock TWRP backups which you can use, plus a very well written guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
Flashing custom ROM doesn't touch firmware, so that hasn't changed from stock firmware (Kitkat?). If you want to update firmware, the above linked thread has that as well.
On the note of firmware, you should not have been running an Oreo custom ROM with kitkat firmware (if that is what you did). It may or may not explain some of the issues you had. I'm actually surprised you were able to flash an Oreo ROM at all, with KK firmware.
As far as stock recovery, the link I gave also has the necessary files and instructions on how to restore stock recovery. But honestly, I don't feel it is value added to do so. The only reason to have stock recovery is for updates, and this phone is long done (years) with updates. And TWRP gives you a lot more flexibility to recover, backup, etc.
Alternately, your version may have RUU. This is a HTC specific tool you can use that to restore to full stock, including ROM, firmware, stock recovery - every single partition restored to stock (will also wipe all data on the phone). But I would need the exact phone info, in order to tell you which RUU (if your M8 version has one - not all do). If you want to go that route, do fastboot getvar all, and post the results (delete IMEI and serial number before posting).
Hi guys,
I have a problem I need some advice for. A year ago, I purchased my Amami for the purpose of GPS-navigation on my bicycle. It always worked fine and I was able to charge it with my dynohub without any issues. The charging is giving me a headache now though, and all troubleshooting points at the phone being the problem.
Now, a couple months ago I decided to ditch 4.4 and go for a custom ROM (I've tried Oreo and Pie) which worked fine, but the phone doesn't charge as well as it used to on my bike. I'd like to go back to stock to see if that's what is causing the issue and used the Xperia Flashtool to revert to a stock image, but the ones that used to work on the phone now give me bootloops after I've flashed TWRP and ResurrectionRemix and Lineage OS.
Is there anything I need to know before I flash a stock firmware with the tool? Any input would be appreciated.
Sounds like to have not updated to Lolipop and therefore you do not have real recovery. Is your bootloader unlocked? Then you can try EMMA to update to Lollipop.

My bootloader is unlocked, I have TWRP installed and am currently running Lineage OS (Android 8). It doesn't matter if I flash Sony's original Kitkat or Lollipop; both will have bootloops. No offense, but I'm not sure you understood my original post: I'd like to go back to an old stock ROM, because 4.4 is the one that I'm sure have me no trouble with charging on my bike.
Proper BL relock:

If you use twrp in fotakernel partition maybe necassary to write back original fotakernel.sin (inside stock.ftf) before relock with flashtool. Remember! After relock with flastool the new BL unlock key here: DEVICESERIAL \ unlock.txt
Hi everyone,
I would like to know if it is safe to unlock bootloader and flash a custom ROM under MIU 13.0.3 SKHEUXM ?
I've seen people having bugs, hence why I'm asking if anyone has given this a try ?
Furthermore, I was going to do this update in order for the firmware to be updated then switch to a custom ROM, but I could go for custom ROM first then flash the newest firmware (even if I'm more confident on the first option which should work out of the box, and preserve warranty in case something goes wrong during flashing firmware, always gotta keep fingers crossed).
Thanks for any help on this matter.
If you updated to the latest ROM, your firmware is updated along with it, there's no need to flash the firmware again seperately. Flash the ROM of your choosing, Magisk if you absolutely need it, and enjoy. Most ROMs these days also pass SafetyNet if you do not root your phone.

It's not very safe, you need to be careful.
Make sure your PC wouldn't crash or that your USB connection may be unstable.
Take your time in setting everything up and reading up some resources on the internet.
If the Flash-process aborts for whatever reason, do not reboot phone. Your phone may not be able to reboot back into Fastboot and turn black.
As for good resources of information, I recommend the YouTube Channel "Munchy". He covers Xiaomi Flashing very well. You can trust him.

You might also want to use a Custom ROM with passing SafetyNet, or to use Magisk Root. If SafetyNet fails, you can't use some apps.
I personally use Xiaomi.eu Weekly Android 12 with Magisk Root + SafetyNet Fix Module. No bugs, I'm happy
My only wish was that I had Over-The-Air updates. With most Custom ROMs, you unfortunately still have to download & flash the ZIP-file manually in TWRP Recovery.
