I am considering of buying this phone, but I am concerned about software update since I dont want to get stuck with Marshmallow forever. and I dont want to deal with custom roms. (dont have the time or patience for that)
So, will this phone receive Nougat?
Don't buy mi5s. Xiaomi doesn't support this model like mi5 or mi max. Still no regular updates released.
Thank you. It seems odd that older model is supported and newer model is not. In that case I will not buy the device. I was planning to hold on to it for about 2-3 years and there is no way I am going to get stuck with Android 6 for that long.
What about the Redmi note 4X? Any chance for this phone to get Nougat?
Have you thought about the mi6?

I did, but I wont buy it for 2 reason
1. Its way more expensive than the mi5s.
2. It doesnt have a global rom yet and I assume it will take some time until it does
For the price of the mi6, I would rather get the OP3t which is cheaper and already updated to latest android

My only concern is the camera
I have been away in the wilderness for the past 5 years and I am trying to get back into customs roms.
I purchased from Amazon UK the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5, so I assume this is classed is the Pro version.... its 3GB/32GB model
After doing some research on the forum. Is it true to say that the Stock Miui rom is the most stable rom? I am currenly on Miui 10.
Its nice but I would prefer stock android/pixel port with everything working plus gcam.
I Would prefer Oreo until Pie is stable enough, but after doing some further reading I get the feeling that Oreo based roms aren't stable or have I misread.
Thanks

Been on Pixel Expirience pie for over 2 months, more than stable enough for daily use. Didnt encounter any bugs, everythings working, just heard that cast is not working, but cant confirm as i dont use it. Most stable is ofcourse OEM soft, in this case miui. Wont recommend gcam as its not stable, atleast for global version front camera is bugged. If you start flashing various gcam patches this forum is full of, youll probably end up with same bugged gcam AND it will give you extra troubles, like no sound etc. Pixel Expirience without any modifications and patches works well. Btw "pro" version is only for india, they have different front camera hardware and gcam seems to be working well on it, there is also AI version which is exactly the same as global version, just with less network bands support.
Thanks for the reply...
gsmarena has my phone as a Note 5 Pro its has the 636 chipset.... Am i in the correct forum? should I be in the note 5 / note 5 plus forum???

No, its the same phone, but as i said, pro moniker is only used in india. Global model is just redmi note 5. Global and chinese versions are identical, apart from global supporting more network bands. Pro version is same as Global, but has different front camera hardware for some reason. If im not mistaken, it has 20mpx, while global/china uses 12mpx front sensor. They all support same roms tho, and all have same codename, which is "whyred". This forum is for whyred. Note5/5 plus is another device, it uses snapdragon 625 and has single back camera. I know, naming scheme is ridiculously confusing, but thats xiaomi, its not the first time. They use different names in different regions, and release many similar devices.
Hello, I see it's a bit dead here but I hope it becomes active soon enough.
Anyway, was wondering if anyone has had any luck with the global rom version on your chinese devices?
Im looking for the same answer as well. Im deliberating between the OP8 Pro and the standard X2 but at the moment Im swaying to the OP8 based on availability of roms and basics like cases!
Id also be interested to learn if by flashing the global rom on a chinese unit if it would lose dual sim support??
I have both the oneplus 8 Pro and the Oppo find x2 pro Chinese variants.
Flash to the UK firmware on the oneplus and it works perfectly. The oppo is another story, can't flash the global firmware yet and the Chinese one is a bit of a nightmare.
I think I'm keeping the oneplus but the X2 Pro does have a brilliant camera.
I am thinking of getting the Poco F3, but I would not want to use MIUI and would prefer to use a custom rom.
I watched this video and don't know if what this guy is saying is true or not.
Would it be worth buying this phone if I am only going to be using a custom ROMs, or should I pay more for a phone that has better software by Oneplus, Samsung etc...?
I've used custom ROMs in the past, but it was mainly because my old phone no longer received support. I am on Lineage OS on my Oneplus 5t.
Thanks!
I picked up the Poco F3 BECAUSE there were custom ROMS and there are a few that are already really good so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. I may even buy another one and sell my 512GB S21 Ultra. (Update, bought another F3) Don't pay attention to that guy on Youtube, do what you want to do.

Yeah I totally agree. This device is cheap and has all the qualities of a flagship killer. All the devs are interested in it and are buying it to develop for it. So in the future expect to get a ton of Custom Roms and Mods for F3.
You cant go wrong with this device.
Period
Yeah i agree.
Totally agree . I recently picked up one after selling my 3A only for custom rom. I hate MIUI and have already initiated steps to unlock the bootloader to flash custom rom.
I had an redmi 7A and when i saw the bloatware on miui my eyes popped out Jesus Christ.
Not to mention to root the stock rom you need to patch the boot.img specially for this phone and to mention it was 32bit rom on a 64bit CPU arghhh!!!!!
I only bought this device because it had superb hardware for the price and I could flash custom ROMs.
I believe in the community of the custom ROMs and think it is a great deal, I was thinking of getting some oneplus or even Nokia phones but I realized it is one of the best that we could get so enjoy flashing
Why would you even go towards Nokia..? Oneplus i get it but Nokia...

because I really like the stock feel, and Nokia is driven with an android one.
Hey mate, just flash my F3 right after one week of waiting for bootloader.
Gona say YES, IT IS FREAKING WORTH IT.
Come from Galaxy S9, after so tired with the bloat of Samsung, I flashed LOS, and man it is fast.
But, with my F3 on ArrowOS, right now, it is insanely fast.
Just buy it, you will not regret. But it is my personal opinion. The choice is your.
Within the price range, F3 already deiminated all other option. But with custom ROM, it decimates even the flagship

Just buy it. Performance to price point, nothing wins Poco F3
The only downside is the MIUI that comes with it which is sluggish and buggy. I flashed mine to ArrowOS and loving the device more now.
Have sticked to MIUI 12 and upgraded to MIUI 12.5 where they removed multiple Do Not Disturb schedules, that is when i know is time for me to flash the rom
Ok just watched the video.
His logic makes no sense at all! According to him buying a windows pc and putting Linux on it would be equally stupid. And the "paid devs" are less likely to unleach the full potential of a device then the "unpaid devs" because of model postioning and other commercial conciderations. So... still glad I bought my F3 for the custom roms
just bought poco f3 and I can tell you the MIUI isn't so bad (12.5.3) it is super smooth and with lots of features and configuration in it (double tap to wake and sleep, double fingerprint for flashlight..) themes are also rich. The main weak point is camera app that is not as developed as gcam but... you can instal gcam ports (8.1) that already work very well!! So yes this phone is sort of perfect.
Hi people,
I am looking for a custom ROM for Poco F3 that has the following:
1. Allows you to hide apps from the app list; not just lock the apps. For now I use LineageOS and I use a separate launcher and AppHider
2. Ideally, comes without GApps or G services. I'd love to try GrapheneOS but it comes for Pixel devices only
3. Allows multiple instances of apps eg. Whatsup, etc. I have seen this in a custom ROM but dont remember which one
Also, why do all the threads about F3 refer to 11x and K40?
Any suggestions?
Thanks a l lot
John

Xiaomi = main brand
Mi, Poco, and Redmi = sub-brands
Mi focus on high end flagship phones, Poco focus on mid end performance phones. Redmi focus on lower end value for money phones
Mi 11x, Poco F3, and Redmi K40 are the same phone targeting different regions with different launch date.
Hey, so i was just wondering. When's gonna be the stable pe 13 be out?

You created a thread for this
I highly doubt OS v13 will be released on the OP 7T due to it's age - for some reason a Indian version of OS12 was pushed to my OP 7T and caused all sort of weird-ness... It frustrated me to where I cannot believe OPPO did this and forced me to go to Pixel 7 Pro. The only thing I dislike about the Pixel 7 Pro vs OnePlus 7T - I have to use an app, AutoMate, to set a ringtone for each of the installed SIMS while this is handled at the OS Layer on OnePlus (many other vendors) Devices.

It isn't.
1+ isn't going to be rolling out a 13 based OOS (or whatever they're calling it now) for the 7 series
