Alright, so i have a Galaxy s3 (sgh-i747) and i rooted it with philz bootloader
So i was going to install a custom rom, so i had to wipe.
I downloaded the rom, and wiped.
But then i realized i actually never put the ****ing rom on the phone and now my phone has no rom loaded.
I can still boot into download/recovery
I really need help with this, what are my option?
So my phone is not rooted any more i guess because the recovery/bootloader is the default one
I still really need help with this

Do you remember what (stock) firmware or Android version you were on before the attempted installation? Your best option now would be a return to stock. If you were on anything earlier than 4.3 (e.g. 4.1.2 or 4.1.1) you could try using Odin to flash 4.1.1 since you can get into download mode. To do this take the following steps ..
1. Download the required files via the following link <http://fortedge.com/downgrade.html>and extract the Odin flashable file
2. Install Odin
3. Boot into download mode and flash via Odin
OR you could find the correct stock image via the following discussion thread and flash via Odin. This would be a complete stock file that will flash all partitions including bootloader, modem, kernel and system.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
If you were on Android 4.3, then you cannot use the above method or flash via Odin and any attempt to do this will create more bother for you. In this case, you would need to flash custom recovery via Odin and restore the stock recovery image via custom recovery. Please download the stock recovery file via the following the thread ...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2658486
If you need any further detailed steps on how to complete this, please do not hesitate to holler.

Download Odin.
http://fortedge.com/downloads/Odin307.zip
Download the Odin flashable custom recovery file via the following link ...
<http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/d2att>. You need one of the more recent images ending in *.tar e.g. the one below
<http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/d2att/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-d2att.tar>
Install Samsung Kies on your PC if you don't have this already (this will be useful for the drivers)
Install the twrp tar file to an easily remembered location on your PC
Extract the Odin zip to get the executable file (*.exe)
Click on the exe file to run Odin
Now boot your phone into download mode by powering off completely then holding down the Power + Home + Volume Down buttons simultaneously until you see a warning message.
Press the Volume Up button to continue
Connect your phone to the computer with a good quality micro-USB cable
If everything has been done OK, Odin should immediately recognize your phone and you should see a message saying "Added" in Odin. If you don't see this, then you may need to check the drivers are properly installed.
Click on the PDA tab in Odin and navigate to the twrp tar file you earlier downloaded. Select this file and click OK.
You should have the Auto-Reboot and F-Reset Time boxes checked in Odin. Please do not check or uncheck any other boxes!
Click on the Start button at the bottom to start flashing TWRP and wait until you see PASS and a green (or blue) box fully displayed. Your phone will automatically reboot after this although it may not be able to boot since you don't have an OS installed. You may disconnect the cable and close Odin after you see the PASS message. If you see FAIL, then disconnect, remove the phone battery and try again.
If you successfully flash TWRP, then you may proceed to reinstalling your ROM.
1. Download the zip file in the thread below <<http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486>>
2. Save to a recognizable location on your phone's SD card. If you can't install files to your phone via your PC, then you may save to a micro SDHC card using another micro-SDHC compatible device (camera, another phone, card reader/writer etc).
3. Boot into recovery mode
4. Select Install from the TWRP menu and navigate to the zip file you download. Swipe the arrow key to confirm installation and wait for installation to be complete
5. When installation is complete, clear your cache and dalvik and reboot system and you are good to go.
Hope this works for you. If it does, please remember to hit the thanks button and let me know.

You may also try Odin 3 v1.85 if the v 3.07 didn't work. I've been looking for a safe download link for that online but I've not been able to find one. You may try searching for it online.

Here is Odin 1.85
Or you could try putting a room on an SD card. That's why I always check to see if a room is there before flashing
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
I purchased a used Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 on ebay. Originally it had Android 4.4.2
When I turned it on the device is in retail demo mode.
I have tried the following
1) passwords found on this forum such as (5444, M729Q16K8546, blue, unlimited, easy, galaxy)
2) none of these worked
3) Can not deselect "samsung retail mode" in settings/security/administrators
I tried updating to android 6.0.1 by doing the following but the retail mode is still there
It will not enter into download mode so I did the following
1) Enabled developer options on tablet
2) Used command "adb reboot download"
3) Installed Android 6.0.1 stock rom (T800XXU1CPH7_T800XAR1CPH4_XAR.zip) from sammobile.com
4) Tablet installed and updated Android
5) Retail mode is still there and I still can not get rid of it
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated
Thanks
Never had a retail demo device so my answer may be limited.
Did you tried/are able to install TWRP ?
If you can get TWRP you can try to make a complete factory wipe (Advanced Wipe > check all the boxes > wipe)
Then reboot to download mode (Reboot > Download)
Install the stock rom again
Here is the link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...p-2-8-6-1-unofficial-sm-t800-805-807-t3074633
Flash it via odin
I have tried to do TWRP but can not get it to work. I did not use the apk I was using ODIN on my pc. I was using a TWRP file twrp_3.0.0-0_T800. Not sure if that was the issue or not.
Here are the steps I used:
1) put phone into download mode by using adb on pc (adb reboot download)
2) In ODIN
a) turn off autop reboot
b) select AP file twrp_3.0.0-0_T800
c) wait for success in ODIN
3) tablet never rebooted so I used these keys (press at same time until reboot power+vol down+vol up+home)
4) Tablet rebooted into normal running mode
If you don't enter in recovery right away you flash it the system will revert the changes back. so if the system start to boot normally you need to flash via odin again.
I recommend you to flash the version i linked, as it is more compatible with MM bootloader, also turning off auto reboot is a very important thing.
You need to press all the buttons together power+vol down+vol up+home, (press power last) . when the screen light up release the volume up button (the next to power button) and keep holding the rest.
also...
You can try one trick that i use sometimes, it will give you more time to make the key combination, connect the device to the charger and press and hold power+vol up until the screen turn off, it may show a battery icon, so you disconnect the charger and wait the icon go away. the device should be turned off now. so you basically press and hold vol down+home+power (press power last)
If you done the combination correctly and the screen became black, don't worry, it is a bug, just wait some time (1 min i think) and press home key, it should show the recovery.
It can be a pain in the a** sometimes... but trust me, it generally works.
Ok, so far so good. It took a while but I got into TWRP. But I can't seem to select the image file.
I have it on an external MicroSD in the root. File is called T800XXU1CPH7_T800XAR1CPH4_XAR.zip
I can browse files on the list on the left. But I can't seem to find the file
Did I miss a step?
Somehow after going through menus, it recognized the file
But when I tried to install it, I got these errors
Zip Signature verification failed!
Error installing zip file /sdcard/download/T800XXU1CPH7_T800ZXAR1CPH4_XAR.zip
Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary' in zip file
Error installing zip file /sdcard/download/T800XXU1CPH7_T800ZXAR1CPH4_XAR.zip
you got me wrong, in the TWRP what you need to do is make a complete wipe (Wipe > Advanced Wipe > check all the boxes > wipe)
then you need to enter in download mode. (Reboot > Download)
and flash the rom via odin!
extract the zip on your pc, it should be a .Tar file, select AP mode on odin, select the .tar and flash it in there.
I apologize for the confusion. Those steps worked!!
I think part of the problem is that I did not extract the firmware file. I kept trying to flash the TAR file.
I did a wipe in TWRP
Then rebooted into download mode
Flashed extracted firmware file in ODIN in AP Box
Then the tablet rebooted and was in setup mode like a brand new tablet!! Who hoo.
Works great
Thanks for all the help
Hello everyone, after struggling for a few hours I managed to finally disable force encryption in my phone (so that TWRP could backup the data partition).
I'd like to write a quick list of what I did in the form of a guide to unlocking the bootloader, installing TWRP and getting root with Magisk. I'm just a user, not a developer and this guide is brief, it's not a detailed tutorial and does not include trivial steps (like how to install drivers for your OS).
Warnings: Although small, there is always the chance this bricks your phone. I take no responsibilities.
This will factory reset your phone so back up everything before you start.
My phone is Lenovo S5 (K520) Global version (see screenshot) I don't know if this will work for other firmwares.
Prerequisites:
Install Phone, ADB and Fastboot drives. You can get ADB and Fastboot binaries from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
Download this archive:
http://www.mediafire.com/?4dcvzw1hdmzfn10
It contains all the files used in this guide.
Alternatively, download all the files used from their sources.
You will need an SD card or a USB flash drive with an OTG adapter.
Copy the following files to it:
A. "Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_12.16.2018.zip"
(Downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3817389 )
B. "Magisk-v18.0.zip"
(Downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3473445 )
C. (optional) "\stock\boot.img"
(Downloaded from the global firmware @ 4pda)
If you chose to use Micro SD card, you can insert it now.
Note: I know there is a way to push these files directly to TWRP from PC through USB instead of using SD Card/Flash drive but I've never tried it.
Lets start:
1. Go to 'Settings>About phone' and tap on "Lenovo version" several times until developer options are enabled.
2. Go to 'Settings>System>Developer options' and enable "OEM unlocking" (Note: for me this option was greyed out and I had to connect to wifi and wait for a minute or two).
Optional: Enable "USB debugging" if you wish to enter fastboot via ADB.
3. Turn off the phone and press and hold 'Volume down'+'Power' buttons until you see "fastboot mode" on the phone screen (alternatively, don't turn off the phone and instead enter fastboot mode via ADB (adb.exe reboot bootloader)).
4. Connect the phone to the PC via USB and open a command prompt in the location that you installed fastboot binary to.
Type (after each command press enter):
Code:
fastboot devices
To verify that the phone is recognized. And if it is type:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Now on the phone LCD navigate to "Yes" with volume buttons and press power to select it.
Your phone will factory reset, this will take a few minutes. Let it finish.
5. Put the TWRP image in your fastboot path. I used "recovery-twrp-3.2.3-crn-seoul(v3.2.3-1).img" downloaded from this URL:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/lenovo-s5-k520-twrps-t3863860
But I included 2 more files that I found (I did not try them).
6. Enter fasboot mode again and type:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-twrp-3.2.3-crn-seoul(v3.2.3-1).img
(Substitute "recovery-twrp-3.2.3-crn-seoul(v3.2.3-1).img" with the recovery filename of you choice)
7. If successful, disconnect the USB cable and enter Recovery mode, do not turn off or reboot the phone because upon restart the phone will revert to stock recovery (I.E. delete TWRP).
To enter Recovery mode press and hold 'Volume down'+'Power' buttons until you see "fastboot mode" and from there choose "Recovery mode" with the volume buttons and confirm with the power button.
(Alternatively, you can try holding 'Volume up'+'Power' to directly enter Recovery mode but I found it a little finicky)
8. In TWRP, swipe to allow changes. Press cancel when asked for a password to decrypt data.
If you chose to use a USB flash drive with an OTG adapter, connect it and mount it (Mount>usb-otg).
9. Go to Wipe>format data, type "yes" and confirm (if you have any data like installed apps, contacts etc., it will be deleted).
10. Go to Install and install "Disable_Dm-Verity_ForceEncrypt_12.16.2018.zip".
The files will be in (/external_sd/ or /usb-otg/).
11. Install "Magisk-v18.0.zip"
Important note: If you want to keep encryption (if you don't care if TWRP can't access /data/) and just obtain root, skip steps 9 and 10.
12. Reboot to system and wait for a few minutes for the initial setup.
If for some reason boot fails (nothing happens after 10 minutes) and you can still enter TWRP (hold 'Volume up'+'Power'), then you can revert the changes by restoring the stock boot image (TWRP>Install>Install image>boot.img - put a checkmark on "boot").
If this worked for you, please tell us by replying to this thread.
Thanks a lot man. This phone is a beast in quality/price when talking about hardware. Costs a bit more than 100€ and has the same hard than others at 180-200€ at least. I am yet waiting for my Lenovo S5 to arrive but I will give this guide a try. I was about to follow XN logos (stupdroid) guide/software but I prefer yours. Just one question... have you checked whether the TWRP v3.2.3 (latest) from dmilz make proper working backups? Can I trust that a full backup will be loaded correctly after installing any unofficial ROM, to go back to stock if necessary? I made once the mistake of relying a TWRP and later I found out that one was ok for flashing but didn't create working backups. I asked him also the same question, but I guess you also tried yourself to make a backup and restore from it using TWRP.
Next step will be to flash an Android 8.1 or 9 GSI rom (did I already say I'm amazed by GSI/project treble roms? just found about them last days). I will update you about my luck following your guide

This means no rom is installed in your phone. Either you accidentally wipe system in twrp, or the rom is corrupted.
Download the deodexed stock rom below and flash with twrp. Should fix your problem.

After flashing this there is no need to press that key combo (VOL up key + Power + Bixby) to boot into Magisk mode. Just after flashing this image your S10+ will automatically boot up in the Magisk mode. And that key combo (VOL up key + Power + Bixby) will be used to boot your phone directly into recovery mode.

S10+ Exynos or Snapdragon ? or work for both ?

Just 3 things i wanna ask.
1. But you didnt mention twrp version?
2. Even if we already are on twrp' latest version we need to wipe because its prepatched?
3. We shouldnt ever factory reset or just after first installation? But we can factory reset from settings?
1. Latest Twrp 3.3.1-7
2. if you have a twrp installed then kindly do not flash it.
3. Kindly make a backup from twrp recovery before making a factory reset in case any thing goes wrong
Sorry for such a rudimentary question but are the adb commands done individually after "su" or is that one command line too long to fit in the box? Sorry, I've just been fighting with getting twrp on my phone since last night. Root works fine but after flashing patched img file I can never get it to go into twrp. Always goes to stock recovery even though flash is successful. I originally thought I was messing up the key combo but I have my suspicions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

UPDATE××Got TWRP to boot the first time. First time system booted fine but I lost root. Did a fresh root per magisk install guide and reflashed twrp.img in root shell. Got twrp to boot again but it continues to boot loop. I only wiped internal with no factory reset. I know it's probably something I'm doing. Any suggestions?

It seems magisk not installed properly. Download latest firmware from Carotix folder Here it have prepatched recovery prepatched ap you need not to do anything you need to reflash recovery n system ...use odin flash patched ap cp bl and use HOME_CSC (you will not use any data apps or anything) Just flash using odin everything will work fine.
also download multidisabler from ian's multidisabler thread HERE put it in phone as need to flash after boot into Twrp!
instructions copied from Carotix thread
Download 4 files from OTA/ODIN FILES then follow this guide:
and put the last Multidisabler in your phone
1- Turn off the device and put it in download mode with the bixby / vol down button and inserting the cable to the PC at this point open Odin remove the check mark from autoreboot
2- Load the AP .tar file downloaded from OTA together with the BL the CP and the HOME_CSC .... if you put the CSC you lose all the data
3- Start the flash and wait
4- At the end you disconnect the phone from the cable and with the power / vol down keys force the switch off as soon as the screen goes black press vol + / bixby / power to go in recovery and don't leave the keys until you see the twrp screen, continue to keep the 3 keys pressed and wait for the recovery to start again
5- Flash the multidisabler then from the main screen choose recovery reboot to boot rooted/magisk system.

Thanks for your help. I had to do it a little unconventional to get it working. None of the prepatched recoveries that are included in all these firmware downloads would work for me using Odin. Only flashing this twrp.img in a root shell would work. I finally just flashed Beyond rom zip after getting into twrp along with the disabler zip. Boots into rooted system with no problems and I can boot into twrp with no problems as well. Oh yea, I flashed Beyond over ASG8 also. Not sure why I could never get ASH6 to work.

Hello kkrraazzyy,
can you please explain how to install your twrp.
I already habe twrp installed. an this rom. --> https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/development/rom-carhdrom-1-t3938987
But a want to install your twrp to boot always with Magisk without to press any key.
I need your help please.
Any proper YouTube guide video for these things, as flashing/rooting became so complicated with so many steps.... Thank you!
So from my understanding this is the first and only way to have the phno boot into the patched recovery automatically without needing top physically press the button combo? Or have I missed something Was just expecting there to have been a lot more attention that's all.
This has actually what has been one of the main reasons holding me back from rooting as it reminds me back in the day of tethered and untethered jailbreaks for iPhones.
Except that this is just a inconvenience while tethered would make the phone practically unusable.
Is there an app i can use to backup and restore my kik chats? I got a new phone, a Samsung Galaxy 10+ and want to tramsfer my kik chats and save data for Digimon Heroes! to my new galaxy 10+ i dont have root on either phones is there a app (apk) or one i can downlod on my laptop to make the backup of them so i can bring them over. Use Smart Switch by Samsung, it includes the possibility of transferring all your data and settings using a USB cable. I transferred everything from my old phone to this one (S10+ SM-G975F). I don't know if it will work on non-Samsung devices, but it's worth a try.
I have android 10 on my s10+, will this twrp work with android q?
possible to boot without root permissions too?
:good:
Hi @kkrraazzyy , could you show us how you did it?
because @ianmacd https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...covery-twrp-3-3-0-galaxy-s10-exynos-t3924856/

Also installed lineage os : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a10/development/rom-lineage-os-a10-a105f-t4078093
So i tried using afaneh92's tutorial which will be linked here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a10/how-to/magisk-root-galaxy-a10-series-t3963822
Which lead to me bootlooping or softbricking and my storage was reduced from 32 gb to 16Gb so i decided to work on my own method!
Credits go to afaneh92 for the Twrp!

i notice thread title says exynos only.. u do know they are all exynos including a102u and a102u1 right?
Oh. Alright thanks for telling me.
Press on app? I have nothing in odin saying that, do you mean ap?
Edit: guess not....i'm bricked, stuck on galaxy logo, device not recognized by pc, holoding power button wont force reboot, nothing lol.
Edit2: can force reboot holding volume down and power but instantly stuck on logo again, cannot power off or enter download, nothing...bricked. Followed this guide to the letter. I assumed when you said app in odin you meant ap since there is no app button. My bootloader unlocked then I went to flash in odin the tar i made with patched boot and vbmeta, along with recovery linked. I used matching firmware to what my A10 has also. Would not mind if i could get back into download mode, but that looks impossible now.
Edit3: Managed to get download mode but had to be so quick...hopefully I can reflash stock now.

Be cause you modified the firmware ignore that message
have you fixed the storage reduced to 16gb problem?
I have a Samsung galaxy sm-a10. I've tried everything here, even combination files. The error I ALWAYS get is 'failed flashing ROM... OEM lock'
Of course I have unlocked OEM in developer options, but still I get this error in the bootloader.
Any ideas?
