What is the best choice for the pixel 2 xl??? , i was reading about 3 different rooms that try to focus on user privacy and security. I don't need google apps, i love lineage but seems more for customize and get the last android version.
Graphene seems not longer mantained ...... so there are not many choices ......
Any advice???
Graphene --> No support yet
CalyxOS --> Maybe not updates anymore, maybe with the efforts of porting Android 12 but reading documentations seems depends of an old kernel. Bootloader relock is great and default apps are greats, microg has problems with some apps.
/E/ --> Seems active support but not bootloader relock.

Hi!
I'm looking for the most stable GSI for the razer phone. These forums have been pretty dead honestly, so i'm not sure where to go.
Looking for the most up to date, feature complete, not broken GSI - My Pre-requisites are:
- Must support Magisk (i use the aptx-enabling modules that SHOULD have been in stock)
- Not bothered on android version, 8 or 9 will do
- WiFi & Tethering must work, i have an unlimited (without throttling) data plan, but you need WiFi for tethering
- Bluetooth audio must work, not bothered about calls, but music streaming over BT must work
- Generally stable - Stock rom is great, just missing a few features i like
What would your recommendations be?
If you want Magisk, go for one of the 8.1 GSI's, Pixel Experience would get my vote, nice ROM :good:
Peacce
I'll help in liven things up in this forum. Thinking of flashing (is this still the right term for GSI?) Lineage first when I get around to it over Christmas. I'm coming from a Oneplus one with the last few years on cyanogen / lineage, so I'm biased.
I'm using Lineage w/o gapps. I love it. I just wish I could figure out how to get signature spoofing to work so I could still play PokemonGO

Does Lineage (or other GSIs) enable miracast? Stock seems to only allow mirroring to Chromecast devices, which I don't have.
hi everyone,
I have recently bought a mi max 3. Miui is far from my favourite however, and i am looking for a good non-google custom rom. There are so many choices for roms that i find it difficult to decide, and trying every single one seems a tedious task that is hardly worthwile. I have a week to decide, as xiaomi made me wait to unlock the bootloader. Obvious sidenote: I intend to root the device as well.
The custom rom i am looking for should support the following features (in order of importance)
- works without Gapps
- strong encryption (password different from lockscreen)
- decent battery performance (longer lasting battery has preference)
- fast and smooth (the more lightweight the better)
- gesture support (should be standard anyway (the screen is huge, i can't be bothered to reach for the navbar )
- due to rollback protection, it needs to be at least android pie/ android 10(?) - is it worth waiting for android 10 custom rom releases?
I know many of these requirements can be met by using apps as well, but if it is included or easier with the custom rom it certainly has my preference.
I am currently looking at:
- lineage OS (has been my driver for the past years)
- AEX
- Syberia OS
- evolution X
- havoc OS
- resurrection remix
additions are more than welcome
note: i assume TWRP recovery and Magisk for root are still decent options. if not, please let me know

Don't worry about Anti Rollback because it's only for miui first.
Arb lvl need to be the same to rollback on miui but never go to an older one. But since a while on miui we're still on lvl 5.. but on custom ROM it's useless.
For root as always.
Unlock bootloader
Flash orange fox (only recovery supporting encryption)
Flash magisk
Reboot
And if I were you I'll try crdroid or aosip. On my side I'm the actual maintainer of aosio derpfest and stay on it since months. RR is a bit heavy and Cerberus is very clean if you want less. For those I build or builded... For the others Evolution x and havoc are very featured. And aex is lighter than oreo version if you already tried it in past.
You got others ROMs for that consider to join my channel @Nitrogencloud on telegram. Gismobe post more there than xda.
For nogapps just don't flash any gapps. Most of the ROM are provided without any

Thanks for the reply.
I got an error trying to check arb on my device, but if it does not matter for custom roms that's peachy af.
Q1: I remember encrypting my previous phone which had TWRP on it, that seemed to work fine. Did not know about orange fox previously, will look into that. How is Orange fox different from regular TWRP (specifically with encryption)?
Q2: In terms of built-in app permission control, how do cerberus, AEX, crdroid and aosip compare?
Q3: and (last question, promise) with regards to updates, I noticed aosip derpfest does not support ota updates, and crdroid seems to support ota. my previous experience with dirty flashing updates, is best summarized as: "chugging down coffee at midnight trying to unbrick my phone". Not looking forward to that -again, so i prefer the possibility of OTA updates. what would you recommend?
Thanks for your quick reply, appreciate it.
Dear all LG G7 users, I would like to create this thread to discuss about ways of using LG G7 with all the basic features working and without Google Apps and Services.
I have a EU G7 with latest firmware and updates (Android 10) This is what I am looking for:
Working USB Tethering Hotspot and WiFi hotspot
Working Gcam
Working Bank Apps
Working microG
Good GPS signal
AOD - Always On Display (if possible)
DT2W - Double Tap to Wake (if possible)
I see there are a few ROMs like LineageOS 18.1, Dot 5, and others. But I am unsure of which one offers the stability I am looking for (not customization). It is ok to use Android 10.
I have downloaded the file from LG to unlock my bootloader, so I am ready my goal is to get rid of Google, and I am aware that with stock rom, even if I like it, it is not possible.
Thanks in advance for everyone who will join the discussion.

I thought custom ROMs based on Android 11 did not have USB tethering. So not even Android 10 based custom ROMs have it? That's strange that a paid app like PDANET allows USB tethering

Because the app itself allow it through their own method. its not using android's implementation. And no, not even android 10 roms have it working on g7
Hi there, I am still here, trying to find a way of minimizing the Google impact in the stock ROM.
Could someone please update me if a custom rom has USB tethering working? And if the answer is still a big NO, is there a way to debloat or degoogle the stock rom via unlocking bootloader and root? Ideally I would love to replace Play Services with microG, or at least remove Play Services while keeping the phone booting. Any advices are appreciated.
EDIT: seems like this is a viable option for me, anyone tried? : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-degoogle-any-device-and-install-microg.4058743/
For other searching here: I just installed AOSPK from Emanuel (telegram group) and it is Android 12 based. Here USB-Tethering works out of the box and the ROM does support signature spoofing so microg can be used right away.
Hello,
I never unlocked or rooted my note 8 pro but I have security concerns after I found some odd behavior. I also have reasons to believe it's happening and experienced previous hacking. Is there any ROM that improve security, or that let you improve security by installing other apps (e.g. firewaill apps requiring root etc...).
Thanks

Generally I would recommend these alternatives:
CalyxOS
GrapheneOS
LineageOS
Resurrection Remix OS
/e/ Foundation
But as what I find there are really just two options for you:
Resurrection Remix OSResurrection Remix OS is an Android-based OS which focuses on security and stability. It is very customizable and contains many personalization options out-of-the-box. Uses so called OTA-updates which makes it very easy to update to new version and therefore enables you to always be up to date with security updates.

/e/ FOUNDATION/e/ is the “unGoogled” version of Android. It ships without any Google apps or Google services accessing your personal data. It has high compatibility for apps. It do automatically decipher the app code, so that you can see which and how many trackers are in the app. It also shows all the permissions the app is using and gives you an easy-to-read scoring for whether an app seems safe or not.

Don't download random apps from Google Play Store and click on random links on Internet. And Miui is more security than other custom roms. It asks for permissions everytime you install apps or do anything (That make me sick and change to custom rom). So don't blame rom for your fault. Time to change your password and anything. If you dont use China phone, I suggest flash Indonesia rom for Miui Dialer + Gapps.
I'm totally sick of MIUI in a way that I'm almost buying a new phone and leaving Xiaomi for good. I used to run custom roms on my old Redmi Note 5 Pro, maybe that's why I never had a big problem with MIUI, I wasn't stuck to it. Now I'm getting more and more dissapointed with Xiaomi/MIUI, gestures navigation locked to default launcher, ads all over system apps, more and more bloatware and "locking" the user in Xiaomi's ecosystem with every update, and now this new "Mi Picks" crap that no one asked for.
I just wanted a simple Pixel Experience, but I know that I can't expect custom rom development for this flopped phone, so is there any alternative? As I could see, the few cusom roms that we have struggle with the same bugs with fingerprint, OIS, safety net and Google Play Protect issues, etc. Same for GSI roms.
Anyone has a path to share to get a phone that has less bloatware and locked features? It could be custom rom, GSI, even MIUI customizations, anything that works (included fingerprint, OIS, security standards, etc)

Unfortunately the AOSPs have issues with fingerprint sensor, optical image stabilization and security checks to run some apps.
I may try the EliteRom thats based on MIUI, it seems to have interesting features, but I couldn't get info about gestures navigation locked to the MIUI launcher.

Oh yeah, for sure, I'm just saying that they aren't realiable for daily use for me yet, but I hope they fix those issues someday, ArrowOS was one of my favorites roms.
About the gestures, I think I'll test the rom today and check it by myself.
Why not using pixel launcher with pixelify 2.2 per examples?
