Random freezes, how to debug? - Redmi Note 8 Questions & Answers

Hi, I have a redmi note 8.
It's rooted.
The freezes are random, are about 2 minutes long, the display stops, touchscreen doesn't respond nor the buttons (if it's off it won't unlock until the 2 minutes are over). If there is a sound playing, it continues during the "freezing". After that, I get a notification that the launcher is not responding.
This behaviour started since the upgrade to miui 12.5.
Now it's updated to 12.5.3 but the freezing is still there.
I have installed logcat. But I don't don't know what to look for or is there any better way to understand why it's happening and how to solve it. I would like to avoid factory reset, and if there is no other way, I may opt for a custom rom.
(the phone froze again while writing this post, that's becoming painful )
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot

you can't know better than them when it comes to their OS
and even if you do ,how would you revert the change made to the kernel or the firmware partition ?

on some devices Miui always push buggy updates to nerf performance and cam ...
-a way to prevent that is to install a stable build and disable updates
-a better way is use a custom rom and get out of sh*tUI hell

Thanks
I had today an important call and it froze again.
I'm going to flash lineageos 18, it seems stable and maintained. I don't need a lot of customisation and I don't have time making huge changes in the phone. I don't play games. I read a lot. I use it for work.

Good luck

So, 10 months later. I've tried lineageos for a short time and I don't remember why I changed to crdroid 8. Now I'm on the latest 8.10, and I'm still having these random freezes.
The last good os was android 10 (miui 12) rooted, and some modifications.
My question is : how can I downgrade to miui without breaking things? From recovery, fastboot? Anything special to do before (apart from backup)?
Thanks for the advice

look for a recovery rom for your device (ginkgo is not the same as willow when it comes to the firmware)
flash the rom using the recovery not flashtool not fastboot
(your problem is maybr a hardware issue)

Can't get back to miui rom

OK so I flashed aospa/los they are working fine. Wanted to try miui 9 so did advance wipe including data wipe. Now after flashing miui it says no is found in twrp. Restoring miui 8 its stuck on boot logo.
Flashing aospa/los is fine but can't get back to miui.
What can I do?

I'd try fastboot flashing with the MiFlash tool
On the MIUI forum they seem to use this as the best way to get back to stock.
It even has a "clean and lock" option to set the phone back to clean ROM and locked bootloader.
Pretty good actually.
Can grab the fastboot firmwares from en.miui.com and then tool as well.
Guides are easy to find on there as well.
Just extract the fastboot package (.tgz)
Then unpack the file from there (yeah I know twice ergh)
And then point the flash tool to the folder this creates.
Then you should be safe to flash.
That will get you back to clean device then you can install TWRP with fastboot again.
I'd go for the Global Developer ROM it's so much better than Stable.
And here's a tip for free: in developer settings disable "MIUI optimization" and set the memory optimization to "off". Makes it so much smoother and battery lasts longer as tasks aren't killed every 5 mins....
So I flashed a global v8 ROM and that worked. Had to install twrp again. Now when I flashed v9 eu ROM after standard wipe, its just on the boot logo with powered by android.

I think you need to use fastboot.
I think normally it would work but one of your partitions must be messed up from another Rom.
It's rare but it does happen and full flashes are needed.
At least MIUI 8 worked

Tbh it may be a complete waste of time.
If you like pure android feel then you won't like MIUI much.
It was okay but its basically what iOS would be if Apple got their sh*t together and gave users more control.
I think that's what Xiaomi was aiming for really as they copy a lot of Apple design types.
Which for is means good hardware and choice of softwares so its definitely a plus.
BL unlock was a dream

Miui was very good a few days then it started to get bloated so I moved away from it. They get some things right but pure android has improved a lot.

LineageOS Nougat.
Not so amazing for visual customisation, but definitely the most stable which means creating mods or adding them isn't as likely to cause issues.
I just want a ROM close to AOSP with all the features of the phone working like fast charging.
AOSPA looks good too.
Just flash again with fastboot ROM and mi-flash tool.
So I just got the OnePlus 5T and wanted to do a speed test comparison for my YouTube channel. I noticed temple run 2 exits. So want to try EU ROM but it gets stuck on bootlogo. Does anyone have a link to the fastboot ROM? Can only find an old one. I can flash the global ROM through with twrp which works fine. Flashing EU ROM fails.
Also will flashing through fastboot lock the bootloader?
I think you should wipe everything and wipe data if you have fbe because it messes up things
So I flashed a stock rom (sagit_global_images_V8.2.2.0.NCAMIEC) with mi flash tool. Unlocked it, installed twrp. Now flashed latest rom eu rom and its stuck on bootlogo still
ARGHHHHHH
Finally worked
After flashing EU ROM, enter fastboot mode and type
fastboot format userdata
(This will format all the data on your phone)
Reboot. Done.

Has Anyone Flashed LineageOS 16 On Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 (SM-T830) (No GAPPS)

I have flashed LineageOS on my old Samsung Galaxy S6 phone and I like it a lot. But I want this ROM on my Tablet and I want everything to be working.
WiFi
Bluetooth
Front Camera
Back Camera
Software Buttons (Apps, Home, Back)
Volume Buttons
Power Button
Sound
Etc
I could not find any official builds nor any unofficial builds of LineageOS for this device. Has anyone successfully flashed this ROM on the Tab S4 without GAPPS and it works like a charm? I have the SM-T830 model.
Any success?

I have not tried it yet since it is an expensive tablet and I do not want to screw it up. I did more research and I heard it can be buggy with LineageOS
I plan on flashing my phone this fall when my contract expires and I could care less if it bricks my phone then but I want my tablet to last at least 5 years and I would like my tablet to be De-Googled with LineageOS and no GAPPs.

Hi mate,
I've been playing with this tablet for a while and I thing I have messed it up in every different way you can imagine. At one point with Odin I even flashed the BL bit to the AP and AP to BL. There I thought that's it, it didn't even bring up TWRP or anything after that. With the button combination you can get to download mode if the USB is plugged in. I believe there is no way you can overwrite the "download-mode" bit so you can get in there always, no matter what you do. This meant that I could flash the original stock stuff back onto the tablet. So don't worry, you cant mess it up.

Hoping to get mine this week - I know you can flash any Treble based image, but will the Spen still work on other roms?
No luck so far getting anything to boot - just gets stuck on the logo

Hey, Thanks for this I installed it and ran it for about a day and it was pretty cool and worked . However it is unstable and is pretty much a ticking time bomb and I cannot recommend this to anybody wanting a stable ROM for their Tab S4. If you're looking for a good stable ROM go check out WETA it has great modifications and is kept up to date. That being said these are the following problems I had using this GSI.
List of things broken or not working
- Screen Locks (Any Pin,Pattern or Password will cause the UI to bootloop)
- Speakers (Only two of the four speakers will work causing audio to be low.)
- Root Access (Root only worked for a select set of apps.)
- Digital Wellbeing
- Unable to fully complete setup. (I.E Android Setup will often crash)
- Incorrect Battery Levels Shown
Im sure there are other things that do not work but these are what I primarily experienced.
Part of the problem of not having anyone who is willing to develop a custom rom for this device - being stuck with crappy stock samsung.
I have wondered if there would be enough interest to warrant setting up a pool for a developer to get something fully working - I'd certainly be willing to donate.

Agreed, I would be willing to donate a bit as well. Saddens me to see LOS for the S3 and S5e but not for the S4. Hopefully one day that will change.
You may want to test this one out as well -
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...vice-development/aosp-9-0-phh-treble-t3831915
I ended up with a shutdown issue after every boot, if that happens to you then just wipe the data partition.
I only know so far that it has an issue with the brightness, haven't tested anything else yet.
I tried installing LineageOS 16 and 17 using arm64-a, but I always end with bootloop. There is some extra step I must do?
For now I done:
- Installing latest firmware version
- Installing TWRP
- Installing image.
- Format Data + Factory Reset.
Thanks!

Yes, it runs nice and smooth, I was recently on LOS.
The post I'm about to make is not related to anything technical, so I'm not sure if it's appropriate on this forum, but I'm going to post it anyway...
Is there any advantages lineage has over stock? Seems like it's not really worth it. Right? What do you guys think about build?

I personally am running stock for SafetyNet purposes at the moment. I do think it's worth checking out if you want a few more options for customization. It was a very smooth ROM, but LOS in specific is not my cup of tea.

That is a very good point actually. That is one thing I was never a big fan of with the stock OS, is just the lack of options you have to customize your device. Might be worth getting it, even though it's a downgrade to Android 10

Test it out if you're interested, but A11 ROMs are likely around the corner. I bet we'll get a build or two of something else down the road. Cheers!
I've personally had GPS issues (while using OpenGapps Pico) with the official release. Hoping A11 builds fix it.
Aah, a much needed rom option for sargo/pixel 3a ! There has been a lot of silence around the pixel 3a in this regard.
I'm trying it out now. First thing I noticed is SIM manager keeps crashing every minute or so (I'm in the Netherlands on the Ben/T-mobile network). If there is a dev out there I can supply a logcat or something like it if needed.
Meanwhile I disabled the SIM manager to get rid of the constant crash notifications. I'll try and report back any issues I encounter (But if there are too many of them, I'll have to revert back to Dirty Unicorns, although that rom development seems to have stalled pretty much).
I seem to have overcome my GPS woes! My installation process was the following:
Install the last Android Q factory image
Flash LOS boot, go to recovery
Factory reset
Install update > adb sideload LOS zip
Very important(?) - go back to main menu, advanced, reboot to recovery
Install update > adb sideload opengapps pico zip > yes, install anyway
Sign in to your Google account during the initial setup process
Test GPS with an app (Google Maps, Waze, OSMAnd, Pokémon Go... )
The only issue I seem to have now is that the Google Fi app doesn't seem to get that my Fi service is ESIM based, and prompts me to order a physical SIM card, but playing with the mobile service settings seems to have gotten my service set up anyway.
EDIT: After talking with Google Fi support, going to Settings > System > Reset Options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth, check erase downloaded SIMs, then trying to activate Google Fi again in the app, it worked.
In addition to the helpful tips from @Mokura3rd. My two cents: I had some gps issues as well, but didn't test it to great extent. Here's a description of my (rather weird issue):
When I first installed Lineageos (jan16 - my previous comment), Google maps and Gps status were able to find gps signal (and quicky), but strava didn't find any gps signal (it didn't even ask for permission, which I granted manually - to no avail).
Some time after the first OTA update, I checked strava again. And it worked without issue. So there might have been merged some bugfixes that fixed gps issues on recent builds.
guys, is it true you have to jump down to Android 10 in order to get the latest lineage? that doesn't make sense. Don't you have to wipe your phone in order to switch from stock to custom anyway? seems pointless to downgrade to stock 10 first. what's your guys stance on this?

Because lineageos 17.1 is based on Android 10, you have to revert to stock Android 10 before you install it. The same goes for any ROM that is based on Android 11.

Thank you for clearing that up with me. Now I at least have an answer on that. With that said, why would that be? Don't you have to wipe your phone in order to switch from stock to custom anyway? Is the ROM gonna say "we have somehow detected the you once had Android 11 before you wiped your OS"

Android changes quite a bit between versions like dynamic partitions and other jazzy stuff. For example TWRP. It works on Android 9, but changes to our device made TWRP incompatible with A10 and A11. (Good news on that though, we just got TWRP 3.5.0_9-0, though I have not tested it.)

did not realize we got a new twrp version. thats a step in the right direction. with that said, that info is good to know. i'm a lazy ass and prolly not gonna test out lineage os until it gets on 11 lmao.
For whoever needs it. I sure did after a derped update last week!
tl;dr install update, disable all modules before booting, get the latest recovery image and patch it, install with fastboot. long version below, just in case.
How To OTA With Magisk, Painlessly:
Open updater and download the OTA.
Press install and let it do its thing, but DON'T REBOOT YET.
Go to Magisk and disable all your modules.
Okay, you can reboot now. It might take longer than usual, it's a system update.
Open Magisk and note that it's no longer installed, don't panic.
Download the recovery image matching your update from here: https://download.lineageos.org/sargo
Open Magisk and patch the img you just downloaded.
Copy the magisk_patched_(random).img to a folder on your computer where you're able to access fastboot.
Reboot your phone to bootloader: either by the advanced power menu, enabled in developer settings, or by restarting and holding Volume Down while the phone boots up.
Open up your terminal/commandline/etc where you moved the image file.
Type the command "fastboot flash boot magisk_patched_*****.img", where the last part is the random string that got generated in the patching process. Press Enter.
After the command finishes, use the volume keys to scroll through the bootloader menu until you see "Start". Press the power button.
Your phone should reboot back to the OS, you can now go back to Magisk and re-enable your modules at your leisure.
So the one problem 'I've been having is with custom kernels. I've tried Elemental X & Gats Gulch. With both I lose wifi capability. Once I restore my lineage kernel viola problem solved. Now I've used both these kernels in the past on different builds so I know it isn't the kernel itself rather something related to the lineage build itself & the act of installing a custom kernel. Both kernels returned exactly the same type of error. WIFI attempts to turn on but returns to the off Position. If one attempts to activate the Wifi Icon dropdown during the System UI Crashes. Any input would be great. Other than this little hiccup
Lineage is running absolutely great. Best battery life of any custom OS by far. Sargo stays snappy, my kernel tweaks remain in place. Root maintains over system restores. Love it.

Just go into app settings and kill now & disable. I noticed that if you installl gapps, get rooted, setup the phone you prefer. Backup with google backup....use the lineage recovery to do a factory reinstall. Once you recover all the sim issues, installation issues simply stop.

The kernel issues might be because they're targeted toward Android 11, and LOS 17.1 is based on Android 10.

It happened to me the same way. I am in the German T-Mobile network. I also disabled 'SIM Manager'.
Unfortunately, I do not receive any 'missed call'-SMS in case the mobile phone was in flight mode.
I think the app could have something to do with it because everything fits on the ISP side. So far, I haven't found an option to reactivate the App in the settings. Apparently it's some kind of hidden app. Can someone help please?
EDIT: There is a "hidden" "System-apps" option in the app settings. Unfortunately the error still occurs.

I need a definitive answer: Does TWRP work on Android 11? If not, what is a good alternative?

As the title says. I've seen some older posts from 2019 about it not working, and need to know its status as of right now. I checked their website, and it provides a guide for this specific model, but it doesn't work. What else can I use?
Twrp has not worked on our phones since Android 9. So no it does not work on 10 or on 11

According to the TWRP website their latest release 3.5 does work on Android 10 and they are working to get it usable on Android 11
Unfortunately our device tree is outdated; there is no android 10 branch let alone 11. The latest release for our device is for those still on android 9, as denoted by TeamWin's new naming convention. If a new branch for 10 and/or 11 can be added to Github, maybe we'll see a build that works for those that have moved on from pie.

so what does this mean?
i just got a brand new 3a XL
i updated it to 11 and now the phone has so many issues that it is not even useable for me anymore, i need to go back to 9 or flash a custom ROM
so can i downgrade it to pie or dirty flash a stock pie rom and then install TWRP on it and flash a custom rom?
or am i now stuck on a 11 with no way to flash to an older stock rom or custom rom or install TWRP?
also if you install TWRP on 9 then i assume you can still flash a stock 10 or 11 rom and revert back to 9 right

First you might want to post what issues you are having in 11 as really there have not been many postings about issues on 11 at all.
That said to answer your question:
Android 9 is very old and of course no longer being updated. I cannot even think of a custom rom that is still based on android 9, but if your dead set on going back to 9 and being a huge security risk you need to download the last android 9 full from from google factory images and run the flash-all file either vat or sh depending on what os your on, This will completely wipe your phone.
If you want to try a custom rom there are very few that are actively updated. The only one I can think of that I KNOW is updadated and current is LOS. Unfortunately while it works really well there is absoluetly no support at all for it on our phone. Not even a dedicated xda thread for it. I wqas on it for a while but ran into an issue with dialing 911. Not sure if it was an LOS issue or not but immediately went bqck to stock with custom kernel after that and have been that way ever since.
To summarize:
Android 9 is basically dead and outdated.
Android 10 lives on only in the very few custom roms available
Android 11 at least for me is at least as stable and usable as 9 or 10 was
TWRP is likely never going to return to our phone and honestly really isnt needed anymore. Really the only thing we cannot do anymore is flash something directly from our phone. Without TWRP you must now flash all images and kernels and such from a pc.
Yeah this site is not quite ready for prime time yet. I also have constant issues with it. Hopefully the reply goes through this time

yes i can see it
the problems i have are
1)using assistant via "hey Google" does not respond to what i say, instead it brings up a menu of suggestions , and i have to repeat myself
or sometimes it won't work at all just says can't reach google try again later
2) smart lock trusted device does not work it constantly relocks my phone after minutes no matter what trusted bluetooth devices are paired , not only annoying but dangerously distracting while driving"
3) problems with android auto and android auto with assistant ,
4) bug where pressing the volume rocker to adjust media or ringer volume (in either direction) causes all sound, media or ringer to just stop
5)problems with the accessing the phone screen while in a call
when i pull the phone from my ear and go to use the screen when in a call the screen goes off and is not responsive to touch then it goes on for a split second , then off, then on, then off , then on
seems like the software service that controls the (light?) sensor that detects if the phone is being held to your ear is not working right, i had issues with this on my nexus 6p too though but it had a different sort of behavior , it would just be black and unresponsive and i had to press the power button to wake the screen again, and i had to stop using power button ends call cause it would end the call whenever i needed to use my screen while in a call and the glitch happened and kept the screen from waking when i pulled away from my ear
6) sometimes get glitches with the app switcher/recents
sometimes the "pill" gesture does not respond and i can not bring it up at all,
and the animations are all glitched out too nearly all the time
animations are a mess jumpy, glitchy ,shaky
it's going to give someone a seizure
7) no visual VM tab in the stock phone dialer app
this was working on 9 on another 3aXL ut stopped after update to 10 ,same carrier but this had been a problem on the nexus 6p too
off /on issue , mostly off
8) texting photos to IOS devices does not go through now
i thought it said you could install TWRP on the 3a XL if you were on Android 9
so what i was asking is, what happens if you dirty flash a stock Android 9 ROM? then would i be able to install TWRP from there
or i can not do it now since i updated it to 11?
I am just curious if it can be done, I will probably just take your advice and stay on 11 for now though and hope there is aoe improvements in android 12 developer preview
i am not at all hopeful though
and after testing my old phone some of the same assistant and auto bugs are on those devices too so i guess it is just issues with assistant that cropped up the same ties i updated

Cant comment on this as I dont use assistant
2) smart lock trusted device does not work it constantly relocks my phone after minutes no matter what trusted bluetooth devices are paired , not only annoying but dangerously distracting while driving"
Dont use smartlock either
3) problems with android auto and android auto with assistant ,
Dont use android auto either
4) bug where pressing the volume rocker to adjust media or ringer volume (in either direction) causes all sound, media or ringer to just stop
Never had this happen and had this phone on both stock 10 and 11 and also on LOS 17.1
5)problems with the accessing the phone screen while in a call
when i pull the phone from my ear and go to use the screen when in a call the screen goes off and is not responsive to touch then it goes on for a split second , then off, then on, then off , then on

Never had this happen with any of the above roms either
Could your tempered glass somehow be blocking the sensor as I have heard of symptoms like that being caused by one.
6) sometimes get glitches with the app switcher/recents
sometimes the "pill" gesture does not respond and i can not bring it up at all,
and the animations are all glitched out too nearly all the time
animations are a mess jumpy, glitchy ,shaky
it's going to give someone a seizure
Not helpful I know but also never seen this occur in all my time using many android phones
7) no visual VM tab in the stock phone dialer app
this was working on 9 on another 3aXL ut stopped after update to 10 ,same carrier but this had been a problem on the nexus 6p too
off /on issue , mostly off
Only seen this when your not using the correct/default stock phone apk
8) texting photos to IOS devices does not go through now
I text stuff to iphones all the time, could be a carrier or apn issue
i thought it said you could install TWRP on the 3a XL if you were on Android 9
I was never on android 9 on this phone but I believe thats correct. However you would lose all security updates for well over a year and a half or so. I BELIEVE the last android 9 rom update was aug 2019
so what i was asking is, what happens if you dirty flash a stock Android 9 ROM? then would i be able to install TWRP from there
or i can not do it now since i updated it to 11?
You could go back but it would not be advised and since twrp shares the boot partition as soon as you flashed any rom greater the android 9 you would lose twrp.
I am just curious if it can be done, I will probably just take your advice and stay on 11 for now though and hope there is aoe improvements in android 12 developer preview

ugh I really am not liking this new forum format. I answered each of your line items under each number but it really isnt showing up very well.
Sorry it has taken so long to respond but i wanted to give a complete answer. Given all the issues you are having and that in my personal opinion going back to 9 really isnt a good idea I would recommend giving los 17.1 a try. It will NOT get you twrp but it is based on android 10, and updated weekly. The only downside to LOS 17.1 is that there is literally no support at all. Even the responsibvle dm's I dont believe even own our phone. That said it ran perfactly for me except a wierd 911 issue that may or may not have been due to LOS. I am seriously thinking of going back to LOS myself, am just really lazy as I would have to redo my entire phone and start with a clean android 10 stock flash.

There is no alternative for our device running 10 or 11. If we had a device tree newer than 9 we could probably get an auto build from teamwin, but as of now there is none.
As for backing up, most things are backed up using cloud services, not to mention twrp isn't so elegant on a/b devices. You have to reinstall after updates, it can interfere with built in updaters, and restoring backups on a/b devices seem to cause more problems that anything.

An often repeated mantra it seems that has little to do with creating and restoring partition images. Where I might agree is the lack of need for an elaborate gui to perform update and flash procedures. Seems LOS recovery could fit a dd function into the recovery partition. But lack of user control over boot slot after a crap system update is all the code politics I need to know. No wonder DU folded up.
I have a working TWRP for Android 11.

Question Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE - OFFICIAL MIUI 14 GLOBAL V14.0.2.0MIXM - ANYONE UPDATED YET ? Thread starter k500zm Start date 1 minute ago Tags

Has anyone been offered the Global version by their phone and updated ?
If Yes - what is your experience with MIUI 14 and does Dark mode work for individual apps listed separately in dark mode options?
Just received a notification for the update. Should one do a factory reset once upgraded?
EDIT: Ok, just updated and decided I'd just do a factory reset afterwards to start clean. Is it just me or do the graphics, icons and such look a little more blurry now?
Today monring i make an update, it is super. System is faster, but Leica cam app is not possible instal, have anybody newer version of leiaca cam app fo A13? THX

@thecumbackkid - Please tell me in settings - display - more dark mode options - does it list all the individual apps to choose dark mode for each app ? (it may take a second or 2 to list them)
This is what it shows for me.
Thanks for the info thecumbackkid
Looks like its time to upgrade I was stuck on Miui 12.5 as when I updated to 13 all individual dark mode apps options disappered.
Someone stole my phone on holiday so I bought a new one and stuck on 12.5 as Dark mode for individual apps is essential for my over sensitive eyes!
I did the OTA update yesterday.
Before installation I uninstalled magisk, and reinstall it the inactive partition after update, before the reboot prompt.
Everything worked fine but be patient. The phone restart at least 5 times during boot logo. I was suspecting a boot loop but it finally started.
Everything is smooth, magisk root still work, safety net fix was kept.
For the moment the only thing which failed was a Google Keep Widget I had to remove and reinstall to home screen.
Except some little icon changes in notifications I didn't notice lot of changes but it is only after some minutes of utilisation.
Edit : password manager like Bitwarden seems to detect better than before that new password was entered.

Awful battery drain here. Charged to 100% barely did some basic browsing and half is already gone in a short amount of time. Noticed whenever I have it charged to 100% at night and by the middle of the next day where I barely use it for nothing but just to check for notifications on stuff it's already down to 80%...
AFAIK, this appears to be some pilot program build? I never asked to participate in it so how did I get this update?
Does any one know how to Facemoji keyboard in MIUI 14 for Lisa ?
I am not rooted. its plain stock MIUI.
Tried ADB shell uninstall, it gave me failure.
Also tried Xioami debloater tool. That also didnt work.
I still haven't received the update for some reason and i tried to update it manually but it didn't work what should I do
Updated to 14.0.4 EUXM and can't get root to work anymore.
Patched the boot image via Magisk 25.2 and then tested via fastboot, as always.
I run directly into a bootloop, which after a while sometimes returns to the bootloader or automatically deletes the temporary boot and boots with the normal image.
It's also strange that during the bootloop the device vibrates once every 3-5 seconds briefly. I've never had that before either.
Update:
I found a solution without wiping my device.
I remembered that I had a problem during the last update with shamiko and I didn't uninstalled magisk or removed any modules before the update. So in order to remove the modules without access to /data/adb and wihtout root rights you need to do the following, maybe it's interesting for you folks.
1. Open shell with command: "adb wait-for-device shell magisk --remove-modules"
2. Open second shell and boot with patched boot.img: "fastboot boot boot_patched.img"
The short time at boot, where root is present, was enough to remove the modules via the CLI during the boot loop.
Lessons learned:
Before the next major update definitely remove all Magisk modules before, if not root entirely.
Saves the work afterwards.
Btw:
Update is running smoothly so far. No battery drain noticed.
can anyone link me to a tutorial on how to rollback from custom rom (currently AOSPA) to stock MIUI ROM? want to move to MIUI 14 eventually. greatly appreciate it!
You can also install miui eu rom 14.0.6.0. If you first install via fastboot, it installs twrp with it. This way you can install future ota updates without using a computer/fastboot. In my opinion the eu rom is the same if not better as stock EEU global from xiaomi

hey, thanks for the reply! just a few questions, there's no possibility of triggering anti rollback right? I was reading that some ppl faced it - I moved to custom roms from MIUI 13 iirc.
also where can I find the link to the .eu ROM? thanks again!

I dont believe the Xiaomi.eu roms have a anti rollback trigger. The previous roms are all a complete package (firmware, recovery, rom etc.) you flash them via fastboot.
The latest 14.0.6.0 comes with twrp. But you have to flash the rom with fastboot first, to get twrp installed.
