Camera quality on Custom Roms - Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite Questions & Answers

So...
I tried to install several custom roms, but I have little single problem with them. On every rom quality of my camera just drops very much. Three is too many noise and pixels visible on photos and videos. I tried many apps and it didn't help.
My process of installing: TWRP - Format - Install ROM.
Maybe I should install firmware first?

Install Gcam MGC_8.1.101_A9GVx_snap and add Nuuutan2 xml , you will get great pictures and camera will work too.

I tried that, but there wasn't any change. Camera quality is also worse in Messenger and Instagram.
Maybe the worse quality of camera is reletad to the fact, that i don't install firmware before installing custom rom?

Camera Problem Video Recording Auto Focus

I have an auto focus problem when video recording with the OPPO Find 7a.
The camera auto focuses perfectly when not video recording, continuously readjusting focus when pointing at different objects. Once video recording has been started, however, focus is locked to the last focused length, and it does not auto refocus no matter how you move the phone. In other words, there is no continuous auto focus.
Since auto focus does work when not video recording, I believe this is a software problem.
I have tried the following:
Factory Reset
Updating ROM to ColorOS 2.0
But both methods failed to fix the camera focus problem.
I am looking to try the following:
Updating / Resetting the Kernel
However, I am not sure how to do this. Can somebody help me please?
Thank you community!

Thanks for your test.
I actually did not have this problem until recently. I believe I may have messed up the camera part of the kernel.
I tried googling "oppo find 7a stock kernel", but could not find anything.
Would you know where I can download the stock kernel?
Thank you so much.

It's the boot.img. Download either v 1.2 or 2 Rom to computer depending which Rom you are using and extract from zip file. I don't think it is the kernel if you already tried the beta Rom and still have the problem.

You are right.
I flashed the boot.img (kernel, thanks for telling me!), and the focus problem in video recording is still present.
Would you have any suggestions as to what I should do?
Thank you.

I contacted my vendor and this is what they said:
...continuous auto-focus feature is not implemented yet in the video mode. OPPO assured that they are working on including this feature in future firmware updates.
Now I'm confused. I'm pretty certain that continuous auto focus works before.
Can someone double check with me?
Thank you so much.

Hi, I just checked again. There is really no problem in focusing when video recording for me. I move away from an object with words and come back. The words come into focus again. Maybe you should send or show them a sample video, or someone else can suggest something else.
I have same problem. If I recording video with different objects in near and far of me camera still refocused objective.
So recording some sceneries is not possible.

Better Camera

So what makes a camera stutter? After trying out the ported OnePlus camera and noticing how smooth it looked, I now hate the stock camera. However, the camera doesn't work correctly with nougat (it takes pictures and when I look at them in the gallery, they're rotated 90° counter clockwise). So what's a camera app that works almost perfectly and also provides fluidity with that such as in the OnePlus camera?
There is a workaround for the OnePlus camera if it takes photos rotated, Simply select HDR from the 3dot menu in bottom right and then deselect, your photos will be fine. Even if you do not deselect HDR it will be fine but I recommend deselecting it because HDR doesn't show much difference to me and there is processing after the pic so it takes more time. If you want to try other camera apps, I made a thread on it some time ago https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-k10/themes/root-stock-camera-apps-ported-devices-t3573485. The app you should try is Google camera but the one in the thread is for marshmallow and as you said you have nougat, there is a never version for nougat. Look for it in apk mirror or request me if you cant, I'll look for you.

I have the Google camera, but on my device it's a bit Jarry and sluggish.... I tried the HDR fix, and it didn't work. It may be due to your port being for marshmallow, and I'm on nougat with different hardware..... Thank you for your response though!

LSC (Lenovo Super Camera)

I found it on 4pda but i think developer was from this forum.
I dont take any credit, i didnt port this camera nor was in the process in any way...
Dont ask me for porting something else etc...
This is flashable zip, go in TWRP and flash, reboot, voila
This camera is by my opinion one of the best for custom roms, based on Nougat.
Snapdragon stock camera records dark videos and panoramas so this is good alternative...
For OREO i advise to use OnePlus camera because of API2.
Im on AEX 4.4 rom 24.07 build, using Heliox kernel 15.10 build, flashed camera blobs extracted from stock nougat.
Link: https://mega.nz/#!Y91h2baR!pUEHq4-pr6mljUw1EybmU-GpHn1LUc5l-Imf8tFBq58
Doesnt work:
Panorama mode
Panorama selfie
and some other options which are specific to Lenovo phones.
PRO mode is working, you can set manualy some parameters, really nice options...
This is a comparison of OnePlus 2.5.12 camera and this LCS camera:
Tested during night:
Video recording is better with LSC camera, in low light. Also Lenovo camera has option to take pictures during recording. Zoom is faster with LSC when recording.
For pictures I give advance to OnePlus camera, faster autofocus, also it has feature to brighten the image, like iPhone.
But I think picture details are better with LSC. When you zoom you can see the difference. Also double the size of pictures for LSC. But focus with LSC can sometimes be missed. For focus advantage goes to OnePlus.
Selfie definitely better with LSC, with OnePlus pictures are yellowish.
Tested during daylight:
Video autofocus is much quicker and less noticeable in LCS camera, OnePlus zooms like its taking a picture and defocused period is much longer than on LCS.
Pictures have warmer colors with LCS, and more details, but OnePlus is definitely winner for autofocus and sharpness of an image... You can achieve that with LCS but you have to get used to it and see when focus is not right and manually tap for focus. Or move away the phone to let it zoom again and take another picture. LCS focus is not bad at all but Oneplus camera is much faster and more accurate.
Here is also latest gcam that works without API 2
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...06-126161292-2-android-apk-download/download/
I think is creates the best panoramas. Needs more testing...
Today i saw it creates dark images in low light but panorama stays light.
This app is only for PANORAMA mode.
Thanks for sharing mate.
Currently I'm using this and the Camera from OP5. Both seems to be the best alternative cameras for the Custom ROMs

Absolutely. They have their cons and pros but combined makes camera perfect . Only slow motion doesnt work good with any camera... But i can live without it.
Oreo ZUI is out for our phone btw, i hope camera on custom OREO roms will get even better and that zui developers enabled api2 finally....
HDR+ google camera makes really nice photos...
Bad news, looks like ZUI devs didn't enabled API2 even in OREO rom...
I asked few guys which installed the rom, HDR+ cannot be found. But they say camera is much improved...

You have to find the right config file, makes the difference between 12meg pics and 3meg. I went through 10 different camera apks and 30 different config files till I found one that has working EIS.

I may disagree with you, slightly. While MIUI camera isn't really great, it isn't trash.
I've also gone through quite a few gcams and configs. It's a hassle for the average user. Not all sensors work great on all configs. Also, sometimes not all modes work good. HDR+ enhanced may improve details (especially for macro and ultrawide), but it takes longer time and introduces some artifacts in some instances.
On the other end, MIUI camera takes instantaneous shots that look good on most occasions.
If you ask me, the average experience is the same in both cameras, one compensates for the other's shortcomings.
For anyone interested, wyroczen's 6.1 reborn has bufferfix even for non-rooted devices. And builds based on gcam 7.3 are mostly stable and capable of utilizing all sensors. Configs differ in number of stacked photos, color reproduction and detail/noise processing, and it's mostly a matter of taste, you can even make your own.

Don't get me wrong, the stock MIUI camera is ideal in terms of functionality, ease of use and quality, but if you're not running the stock ROM, the alternatives are decent. I have one app for video with EIS, one for night time shots and one for pics. Slightly inconvenient to switch around, but it's a small price to pay to run an unmolested AOSP A10 GSI ROM.

That's exactly my point, glad we're on the same page
In order to compensate for stock camera performance, you'll go through a lot of trouble, which is why a good stock camera port should also be an option.
As for me, when i used AOSP, I'd add a lot of mods through xposed and magisk. MIUI already has them so I guess this time I will pass.
As a number of people have commented here-- be aware that the MIUI 12 stock cam produces DRAMATICALLY better photos that MIUI 11 did, particularly in indoor/low light situations. The results rival Gcam, without the fuss. And MIUI 12 itself is very good.

This one installs and opens but the quality is bad, understandable since the port is too old.

It's just modern looking only the ui is updated, it's no better then gcam5 in terms of pic, idk about the video part, and video for front camera didn't work for me, front camera isn't being detected by the app?
And nightime is better on stock camera.

The issue of poor performance of GCam ports on Samsung devices is more related to the use of Exynos processors than the brand itself. I had a Galaxy S9 (snap 845) and the GCam performance available to it was excellent. However, the fact that Samsung keeps the device drivers closed is something that certainly gets in the way.
On Andorid 11, tried gcam it didn't even open and the stock camera stopped working too. Uninstalling the gcam got it to work after a reboot. It has a horrible camera, the reviews are either paid for or were made by fanboys. Any wayaround?
ZGcam somewhat works. Does anyone have a specific config for Note 10 Lite?
