Guys i recently ordered an Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe from a Chinese retailer. Obviously because the phone was the Chinese or Taiwanese Version they rooted the device and installed a WW Firmware before shipping it to me. The Version i have is 2.19.40.18 but the battary life is really bad. I realised all this when i tried to search for firmware updates but there is no way to search from the settings menu and the OTA Solution doesn't seem to work because i don't get a notification to update.
ADB doesn't work either because the 3 PCS i installed all the necessary drivers on, i couldn't get them to correctly recognise the device.
Anyways, i just want to be able to update the device to the latest WW software version, i don't care about the root if i will loose it because i don't use the device as a superuser.
What do you advice?
Same situation here. I have the same software version (both on device and in recovery). I also want to update the sofware but OTA option is unavailable in the SOFTWARE INFORMATION MENU, I tried manually but it doesnt work. I dont even know the root method used by seller so I dont know how to unroot, neither will unroot make manual OTA possible.
Please help someone.

Had the same problem. I unrooted, flashed stock latest firmware and now I have system update option.

I don't receive any more OTA updates on my Zenfone 3 Deluxe ZS570KL Pro (Z016D) whereas before it was able to download them and to install them.
I contacted the support of Asus compared to this problem. The support, after investigation, indicated to me that it had undergone a modification either by the use of the official tool UnlockTool or by the installation of a bad version of firmware. However, I indicated to them that this telephone was new and no modification had undergone. It managed to receive OTA updates.
As it cannot any more download and install OTA updates, it was advised to me to carry out the updates manually.
I carried out manual updates WW-5.15.44.2588 and WW-5.17.44.68 with success. However, when I wish to carry out update WW-15.0210.1804.47, this one fails and doesn't install.
Could you indicate a procedure to me to install this update and to explain me the reasons for which it doesn't install ?
Moreover, there is it a method to lock the bootloader again on this phone if it was modified as the support of ASUS indicates it?
Anyone else has this problem and found a solution ?

you have to lock your bootloader again then try to flash the official firmware from asus website. flash it thru stock recovery on apply update bla bla

yeah i saw it in a chinese or taiwan asus website that you have to downgrade to 6.0 then you gonna flash the stock firmware thru stock recovery.

Had the same problem, used ASUS Flash Tool. Info on this Forum, you will have to reflash TWRP if you use it.
Just checked My daughters mi 10t lite and to My surprise it still runs 12.0.8.0
It seems there are newer versions but her Phone says that No newer version is avalilable when searching.
Also it seems Android security level is december 2020 which seems very outdated.
IT seems that there are newer versions so why Will the Phone not find Them.?

When you scroll up to the top of the page you can find all variants.
Always be sure you download the corresponding RECOVERY image!
Then copy it to your device.
Open settings/ about Phone
tap a couple of times on the middle of the screen, till you get the notification "additional update features on" or similiar.
When you go now to the upper right corner w. the 3 dots, you will now see some new entries, select "Choose update package", then select the downloaded recovery image, and install it.
In your case, since your Versions are heavy outdated I recommend a full backup prior - it can mess up some settings or files.

If/When you do the update, please report back what version you selected and if it did indeed needed af factory reset to work properly.
To be honest i think it is pretty poor, that this not just works out of the box, i have never heard of another brand where the OTA did not work, it's such a bacis function and i must confess, that if it ends up, needing me to do manual upgrading, this will heavily affect my will to buy og recommend anyone to buy a Xiaomi phone.
It seems the expression "You get what you pay for" is right in this instance, and i would certainly rather have paid a bit more to get something that just works, if i had known that even this basic feature did no work.
I wonder, if i update the phone manually to the latest firmware, if it will get the next updates OTA or this is a recurring thing, to do manual upgrades every time ..
Check you full FW version (including letters) - some ROMs are provided by phone operators and these are well known to delay or block the updates. Global ROMs should not show this behavior, I receive all OTA updates on time (or I just download and apply them manually as described by y1nk0).
Thanks for the suggestions but it didn't work.
I pasted the zip file into the phone memory and selected it in the update menu. The error message was Not possible to verify the update. You cannot flash this ROM, or along those lines.
It isn't an operator branded phone and it was brand new out of the box a few days ago so I suppose its possible that it gets an OTA update in the future, but yeah, I'm pretty disappointed with the phone in general really and was hoping that some of the poor features would be improved with an update to Android 11.
Its a work phone so at least I didn't pay for it, but it also means that I can't really do anything which might brick it, I got it to replace a Samsung A50 which I dropped and killed so I have to be careful!
The current ROM is 12.0.8.0(QJSEEUXM) which seems to be an official Mi ROM dated 22 Dec 2021.
I will check the full firmware version and post it here when i get home, but my daughters phone was bought from a large generic electronic retailer and it was bought without any subscription to any phone company and it has no visible branding at all, so i highly doubt that it will be because of this.
But as said...I will post the exact firmware version of the phone later, it would be interesting to see if it is the same as "overandout" has.
I dont know if the phone has actually ever received any updates, but i doubt it, as the safety level is December 2020, and she bought the phone in 2021.
Maybe there is a bug in that particular firmware that prevents it from succesfully updating.
I am thinking of maybe returning the phone to the shop, and reporting it to be faulty, because of the inability to upgrade.
Nowadays firmware and firmware updates are a big part of keeping a phone in "good working order" so the inability to update is certainly in my book to be consideres a serious flaw / defect.
I dont mind to update it manually to be honest, but i would expect it to then begin, updating by itself, i dont want to have to do manual updating every x months.

No i did not try anything yet, y1nk mentions that since the version is very outdated to make a backup, and i have not had time to do this yet.
Will probably do it this weekend, but i kind of need to have her make a backup of her phone....And i dont even know if she thinks it's worth the trouble if she has to start the phone from scratch after the update.
Teenagers have a LOT of apps and stuff on their phone, it's not just a matter of 5 minutes and she is ready to have her phone potentially reset to factory standard
But seeing as you had no luck i am not holding my breath for that method tbh. : )
Fair enough, I didn't bother with the back up because the phone is so new I hardly have anything configured anyway.

If you're on V12.0.8.0.QJSEUXM, I would try updating to V12.0.1.0.RJSEUXM first. Sometimes it's not possible to skip one or more updates and you have to install them one by one.

That makes sense. I went the other way and tried to install the penultimate version (12.5.6.0) but that gave the same error as the latest..
I'll try the "sequential" approach later.

Well, it was worth a try!
Exactly the same result unfortunately.
Not too sure what to try next really.
So i tried a bit here.
What she has is a phone that has the following firmware installed
MIUI Global 12.0.8.0
Stable
12.0.8.0 (QJSEUXM)
So i tried downloading the MIUI downloader tool and selected older versions, and downloaded the firmware called miui_GAUGINEEAGlobal_V12.0.1.0.RJSEUXM_15bfbef742_11.0.zip
put it in a folder called "downloaded_rom", went to the install updates, pressed the MIUI logo to make the "install from package" appear, selected this file and then it chewed on the file for 10-20 seconds and then it just says :
"Can not confirm update"
"Sorry, flash to this stable version is not allowed"
It feels really strange that a phone that has a firmware version called QJSEUXM is unable to update to a version called RJSEUXM
The only difference is that Q has become R, and since R comes right after Q in the alphabet, i would assume that this is the next version.
I am at a loss here, and the posts i made on the official Xiaomi forum, has gone unanswered.
One weird thing though.
I would expext firmware version 12.0.8.0 to be newer than 12.0.1.0. The naming of version seems a bit strange ??
The 12.0.1.0 version is android 11 and the 12.0.8.0 is android 10, so the 12.0.1.0 is newer it seems.
Still, makes no sense that it can not be updated, the file i downloaded is 2,5 Gbyte, so clearly a full image, not just incremental
Try to change your region in system settings (you might even receive an OTA update), updates are sometimes blocked for whatever reason for a particular country. India/China are usually first to receive an update, so they might work.
MIUI sub-version numbers are reset after major Android upgrade, so V12.0.1.0.RJSEUXM (MIUI12 Android 11) is newer than V12.0.8.0.QJSEUXM (MIUI 12 Android 10).
Btw. it seems that there was one more ROM update before moving to Android R (V12.0.9.0.QJSEUXM), you could have more luck with its installation.

Thank you for the reply, i have succesfully downloaded and installed the 12.0.9.0 firmware version on her phone.
So now it says :
MIUI Global 12.0.9.0 (QJSEUXM)
The android security level is now 01-01-2021
I then tried changing region to a lot of different countries, including countries in the African region, and India which i believe is in the asian region, and also a few european, it said "Changing region" multiple times, but no matter what country i tried, it still said "No available updates". This was offcourse with 12.0.9.0.
I feel that the speed with which it says "There is no update" kind of suggests that it might not even check, but i dont know if it does, and just really quickly figures out that there is no updates.
So while she got a marginally newer firmware with a 1 month newer security date, it still refuses to find OTA updates with 12.0.9.0 Android 10 by itself.
I also tried re-running the downloaded 12.0.1.0 Android 11 version i had previously downloaded, but it still fails with the same message as before.
It seems the update routine for this phone is really screwed. It was able to do the manual update to the newer android 10 but it refuses to do anything with the android 11 firmwares.
If anyone has more succes, i would like to hear about it. My teenage daughter is not prepared to do a full factory reset, so unless someone finds a way to do this without having to reset the phone, i think she will just want to keep the phone on the current firmware.
PS. I also tried disconnecting from our wifi, in case our firewall was blocking, but on 5G it still does not find any updates, really fast.

I swapped the regions a few times too, but it didn't make any difference.
I have tried to follow some youtube tutorials on using MiFlash Pro to load the recovery image, just in case.

I know that bootloader unlocking could be a PITA, but it does not invalidate the warranty (at least in Europe).
Edit: could any of you capture logcat during failed attempt for ROM installation? This might provide additional info on why exactly is it failing. Also you might give ADB sideload a chance, I don't expect it to really work, but maybe there will be some extra info too.
Hi, im on 12.5.11.0.RJSEUXM and I want to upgrade to miui 13, but after downloading the zip, and trying to install it with the updater app (choosing a zip from menu) its says "unable to verify, you cant install this stable rom"
Is there any way to fix that and install the rom? putting that zip as "update.zip" at the root of my internal storage and booting into recovery does nothing (in previos versions an option called "update.zip to system" was there)
Or I need to do something more to update?

Each recovery ROM seems to be verified at Xiaomi servers during upgrade process and if they block the installation for whatever reason, you're out of luck. The reason might be that the ROM is supposed to be used only by selected testers, in a specific region or maybe the ROM was pulled due to major bugs (I saw some complaints about SIM/network incompatibility in Europe). I can't install this update as well. It is possible to force the installation via fastboot, but I believe that Xiaomi has a good reason why they prevent us installing this version. I'm waiting until it arrives on its own as an OTA update..

Just to confirm - I never received 13.0.2.0 EU ROM, nor I was able to install it via sideload/ROM updater. I couldn't install 13.0.4.0 manually either, but today I got the update over OTA and installation went through without any issues.
Having issues installing beta 3.3 on my 6 pro.. did a factory reset then tried installing it. First time it took forever to install and phone rebooted and had missing operating system so I had to factory reset.. second time I got a failed to install message.. rebooted the phone and it said no operating system please visit this link from another device.. rebooted then phone worked normal.. what is going on here ? Phone is purchased from att, so idk if it's considered global version but whatever either way . Is there something stopping it from being installed? Was trying to do all this OTA.. thanks kinda new to it
I'm not sure if it being an att version has anything to do with it or not.. maybe the version google releases is only working on unlocked global models?? Someone shine some light on this..

So why would the flash tool work but not the ota method ?? Really curious cause when the official comes out hopefully I can flash that ota without any issues.. right now I opted out of the beta cause I really want the ota method to work and it doesn't ..
Can someone tell me why the ota wouldn't install ? Installed it the way I installed any other update on the phone through check for updates.. Id rather get ota working vs hassling with a computer to install it. That can mess things up if done wrong .
Is it failing to ota install the beta cause of a locked bootloader ? It does fine with install ota security patches on Android 12. Trying to install 13 ota on the phone itself fails.. I don't see why that would be though ?

Official Google Android Flash Tool (OEM Unlocking needs to be toggled on - you may not have to manually unlock the bootloader - the "site" will do that on its own)
^ That Google site has saved many users on XDA. It has revived or corrected a mistake on their devices (mine too, once) when even flashing the full factory image didn't fix the problem. I have no idea what exactly it does that manually flashing doesn't. I normally use the full factory image zip, and that alone sometimes fixes issues that users have when they have issues flashing via the OTA method.
Oem unlocking toggled on isn't an option on this phone , purchased at att . I'll just wait till they release the official ota. But what would of been holding it up and making the installs corrupt??

If I remember correctly from other AT&T variant Pixel 6 Pro users in this section, once you pay off the phone and/or own the phone for long enough, AT&T should carrier unlock the phone, and that will likely make it so that you can OEM Unlocking and unlock the bootloader. (this also applies to T-Mobile, but does not apply to Verizon)
Well it's a far ways from being paid off I'll just add that .. what are my flashing options ? Also why would a security patch install just fine, then I enroll into beta ,try to install it, and bam it won't install and is corrupt install. Just doesn't seem right to me.. should I just wait until official release early August and then the OTA install from phone will work ?

Firstly, unlocked bootloader is required to flash custom or beta firmware. While you can sideload OTA packages on a locked bootloader, I would highly recommend against doing so as you may end up with no way to recover your device.
When installing a beta, it is generally best to wipe and perform a clean flash. OTA is not recommended because beta software by nature is not yet suitable for public release, and may not appropriately handle everything correctly coming from older firmware.
As has been mentioned before, I recommend you use the Android Flash Tool to flash the beta. To ensure you have a fresh start, tick the Wipe device and Force flash all partitions boxes. Do not re-lock the bootloader.
So in short, wait for the official ota to roll out in August and install from phone then?? Cause I won't be able to unlock bootloader , phones not paid off... Would this explain why it's failing to install an beta from within the phone itself cause the bootloader's locked? So I have to wait for official ota rollout like I said earlier ??

Most likely. I doubt the beta will pass signature verification until it is updated to public release.
So not passing signature verification would be the reason it won't install ( ota ) most likely ? I'm just confused why a patch will install ota but the beta cannot .. must have something to do with bootloader being locked and it not being an official verified release or something

Yes, you need the bootloader unlocked. So you cannot use those builds - only officially released OS builds.

It's a beta, so there will be issues for sure (but your last comment said you are getting an error [device is corrupt] that was common a few months ago so read on). You don't need to have an unlocked bootloader to enroll in the beta. Tons of users on Verizon and AT&T with a locked BL have installed the beta. Most are fine, some have had issues.
I wouldn't install a Beta on a locked BL. Why risk it? If something goes wrong, you'll need to get a warranty replacement. Seems like such a hassle.
For your issue, since you said you're getting a device corrupt message. This message is caused by q few different things (there's a thread on here about it). To fix it, users needed to do a factory reset in recovery mode. If you really wanted to try installing the beta (and you understand the risks), you'd probably need to: go to recovery mode and perform a wipe/factory reset.
From there, you could install the latest stable ota (via recovery mode) then see if the beta will update for you (via beta enrollment like you are trying to do), or directly flash the beta ota (link below). I'm just not sure if you can flash a beta ota image, over a stable build. I haven't tried it but according to xda, you can be on Android 12, and flash the Beta 13 ota (instructions found here).
There's two ways to flash an Android image: ota builds via recovery mode (doesn't require BL unlock) and factory image via fastboot which can be done manually or using Google's web flash tool (flash.android.com) - both if these require BL unlock.
You can find all the latest image downloads here. Google strongly recommends to flash the beta with an unlocked bootloader using their flash web tool. It's a beta so I would stay away until you can unlock your bootloader. Don't risk it. But I still think it might be a good idea for you to eventually perform a factory reset from recovery mode, since you are seeing the device is corrupt error message.
