I'm not asking it necessarily for the Redmi Note 8 but is there any comparison that tests and compares the ROMs in certain aspects?
I've tried 2-3 ROMs that were mentioned as best ROMs for RMN8 and I always returned to MIUI but I'm sick of it because of occasional freezes (could be a hardware problem or maybe because of some tweaks I made to 'debloat') and more importantly bad memory management and annoying battery optimization features.
I'm looking for better ROMs but couldn't find any extensive comparisons, just some guys sharing their experiences here and there.
Try disabling all globle power management features as they generally cause erratic behavior.

Just curious, for those of you who have used AOKP, what you think of the stability and feature set.
Personally, I find that it is rather unstable in terms of different builds seem to suck battery, I get random lag and have to restart my phone every day or so. But the feature set is what keeps drawing me back to this rom, no matter how much I get annoyed with the instability. They keep adding tons of cool new features that you won't find on other ROMs, at least initially.
It brings up a point of discussion though...how many features do we desire in a ROM to be happy with it? I thought I was pretty happy on CM until I started tinkering with all the custom settings in AOKP and realized how fun it is. Do you need to have a lot of features to be content with a ROM? Is there one feature in particular you must have?
Kernels impact battery and performance rather than the ROM.

Hi, since my warranty is about to expire, I wanted to update my i9195 to newer android. Which one of CM versions is recommended for a stable daily driver at the moment? Is it even worth upgrading from stock 4.4.2?
Purely theoretically based on the features (permissions, Doze) I would go for CM13 but I haven't found any thread that would compare battery usage with CM12.1. Also I'm concerned a bit about bugs in CM13 like display wakeup delay on lock screen. I also found in the threads quite a few bugs for CM12.1.
I would say try both, for a week or two. If you make a backup first, nothing to worry about!
I use exodus 6.0.1 as a daily driver, it is stable, and has some extra features that cm is missing. Before the MM version of exodus has been introduced I used cm13, and I can say it's pretty stable, no bugs I can mention. It's up to you which rom you use, just always make a backup before!
ps: Unfortunately Doze doesn't work on s4 mini, due to lack of sensors, battery life is the same on cm12/13
Which specific features do you use that are not included in CM? Is there any difference between CM and exodus stability-wise? Can you comment on battery life of CM12/13 compared to stock?
I can't give you a specific answer since I haven't used cm for half a year now. CM is, in my opinion, pretty basic. Exodus has an extra menu in settings, with some features like Interface, hardware, rom controls, layers etc. You can apply layers, which are similar to themes. In stability, I would vote for exodus, but had no problem with cm either, other than some random reboots. I also like the small animations they made, or the blurry background of the power menu.
I can't compare the battery life, switched to custom rom two years ago. This models battery is pretty bad, gets instabil at 15%. Mostly I can use it for 1 day, maximum two.
Still encourage you, to try it yourself. If you don't like it, flash another, or do a rollback
Hi guys, I'm somehow new here, never made a post before, but I think this is worth sharing. I've been testing a lot of things to make my Lenovo K4 Note more useable, it's a 2GB/32GB model, I think most of you owns the 3GB RAM model and doesn't suffer with overall performance, but since It came brand new to me, I never had a real smooth experience with it. Stock ROM was ok, but bloated e modified by Lenovo, what I don't like, so Custom ROMs was a choice. Tested Lineage, Ressurection, DotOS, and almost all ROMs by @mohancm and some from other devs. Although their differences, none of them achieved the smoothness that I wanted, so I started testing some perfomance and kernel apps like LSpeed, Kernel Adiutor, HEBF, etc. Got some results, but still not what I expected. I even went through RAM management fixes by crok that you can find in Magisk Manager app, which got me some smoothness to, but I kept looking. A lot of system wipes, ROM's flashes , testing and benchmarks later I found STONEDMOD by @jwensouls and finally I think I can stop my search. There is more popular mods like Ultimate Performance and FeraDroid, but besides giving me more benchmark points, they weren't able to achieve what STONEMOD did with my Vibe A7010.
No more laggy apps or games (I don't know about heavy games, but simple 2D games like Alto's Adventure wasn't great before this) and better performance than never, I feel like I got a new phone, and I already own it for 2 years.
So I recommend to try yourself, it's a simple init.d mod that you only need to delete from init.d folder later to uninstall. Maybe for 3GB RAM models this won't make too much difference, but still worth giving it a shot. For 2GB RAM model owners, it's a MUST.

I hope I can help someone like me in the future by posting this. Sorry if this was already posted or if I'm breaking any rules that I'm not aware.
thx gonna try this
Is magisk working with this

Haha. Thanks for your opinion
I've been looking into this as well since the "recommended" setting for pubg was medium...anyway i'll be talking outta my ass here.
i'll be comparing performance for older title like world of tank blitz and world of warship blitz that i set all the settings to max.
for older roms like sultan, fos and 3rd party rom rr, los ect....i really don't see any differences. they heat up the same, battery drain almost the same, about same fps(~50) ect. however, for 3rd party roms, they do give better features like build in tasker that can kill all other apps when you launch the game(which you can do by getting the real tasker for oos based rom).
do note that i did not purposely change the kernel, , i just follow the instruction and get the recommended kernel and add-on pack.
i did not try all the roms for op3 for obvious reasons, but i do notice pure oos based rom are little better than 3rd party, but only like 2-5fps increase. even so, it's also possible for stuff like viper4andriod, dolby mod ect that cause performance issue.
so the rom itself doesn't really contribute to better gaming, they are all fine(aside from certain buggy as hell roms).
BUT there is something you can do to increase gaming power on the op3. changing scheduler decrease lag a little, playing without case dissipate heat better, putting some thermal pad IN the phone(placebo maybe) does somewhat make it stable during long gaming. just my personal experience, no data to back it up.
p.s-don't water cooled the op3, that's how my screen came off.
tl;dr-all rom are equal for gaming.

try aospa
this is only rom where i don't have GTA SA glitches. IMO best performance and battery life.

ok..
gonna try ASOPA tonight.
Guys, any suggestions??
So I just picked up a pixel 3 and the battery life is fairly mixed but I guess I was spoiled with my previous device (Oneplus 5).
Will installing a custom kernel improve my battery life? I haven't really bothered since my Galaxy S2 which was a shambles.
If so, are there any specific kernels which aim to do this by default?

Today, stock Google kernels are very efficient. Most kernel devs will tell you the same. There is just not much margin left for them to improve upon battery-wise. That being said I use EX Kernel because I like the ability to tinker and have more control over the phone. I like EX's battery monitor that is part of his kernel manager. There are quite a few good custom kernels out there. If you haven't done so already, just lurk in one or two of the kernel threads and see what people are discussing. With respect to your current battery life, don't forget to give it several full charging cycles and in a week or so it will likely show an improvement. That, and you're probably "playing" with it more and that will wear off too!
There will be none to negligible difference. Custom kernels are more for staying up to date with incremental kernel patches and other upstream stuff as well as things like color and haptic control.
