Works for me, dirty flash over 17.1 (which was in turn a dirty flash over 15.1) with nano GApps. Patched the boot image with Magisk 24.1 but it locked up after reaching the home screen. Restored original boot image, updated Magisk to 24.3, patched boot image again, booted without any trouble and passed the Pokemon Go test. The phone did lock up while charging but was OK after a reboot and subsequently charged to 100%.
Dirty flash is usually ok in the same series i.e 18.1 february to 18.1 march.
This it not recommended for any change in version i.e. 17.1 to 18.1.

Concerning the freeze/reboot issue with 18.1 on both my swift 2 plus's, on the first one I backed up the 17.1 (including removing any lock screen setups password/fingerprint, and in twrp. I wiped (data/system/ lock screen dp all three) but restored my data backup from 17.1, it booted up fine but I didn't setup password fingerprint in first setup, and if I try to set up fingerprint in settings it would freeze (nothing else in settings freezes) and would have to do a hard reboot (via twrp) so I just set up a password and settings does not freeze. but sometimes if I have to reboot the phone, it boots into the OS, the battery will say 0% and I have to do another reboot then it settles down. in phone two, again I did full wipes, did not restore any data and I imputed my password and fingerprint on first setup of the phone(settings do not freeze). but again on phone 2, if I do a reboot the phone says 0% and another reboot has to happen. other than the settings freeze on phone 1 and the reboot issue on both phones are stable magisk works including banking apps. on the latest update I installed it via ADB sideload, and booted up fine.(except for the reboot issue). and just for reference, there is a 18.1 ROM on 4pda, but it states there is a freeze/reboot issue. please don't think I'm moaning, and I am using it as a daily ROM. and it works for me. thanks
As to reboot and freezes, the Rom's above don't seem to do this.
I am running it and have not seen this at all.

@robin800 what version of twrp are you using?
I used The treble 32gb.zip to make a vendor partition then used the TWRP_treble.img.
The version is 3.2.3-1 a bit old.
So the ROM is a gsi ? I installed the ROM like it was a marmite ROM.so I should have installed it like a gsi ROM? aren't you meant to use the treble boot.img then install the ROM/IMG?
@robin800 so you installed the 18.1 zip with the treble twrp recovery IMG, ? the twrp version I'm using is 3.1.1.0 . I will try it on my spare phone this weekend. and just to be clear, I don't need to install the treble 32.zip file just the 18.1 zip? I always thought the twrp treble IMG was for gsi ROMs only.
It's used if you use the trebler32.zip file.
all it does is pinch a bit of the data partition to make a vendor partition, the treble twrp can then format that partition,
if you don't want a proper vendor partition you don't need to do any of this.

Hi there. Has anybody built a ROM with the following specs?
- based on stock 14.6.A.1.236 (android 5.1.1)
- pre-rooted
- all security patches added, e.g. patches for those 10 critical bugs that have just been fixed
It is not stock but aosp: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-z1-compact/orig-development/rom-jaguar-amami-lp5-1-1-r37-hardened-t3396713
In Jaguar you get all the patches within 1 or 2 days. I am using it atm.
Alright, I just switched to Jaguar.
But it wasn't easy. Dual recovery with Philz & TWRP 2.8.x defended itself very persistently. Installing TWRP 3.0.2 had no effect - neither in recovery partition nor in FOTA kernel. Even the uninstall zip of dual recovery couldn't wipe TWRP 2.8.x, although the script said it had run successfully. So I kept installing images into different partitions in fastboot mode (which was the only mode that kept working all the time). In the end TWRP 3.0.2 suddenly appeared after 3 hours.
In Jaguar it was also a bit fiddling to get AFWall+ working. Optimumpro's dowload has a rather old version, which kept blocking all traffic. But after removing it and installing the current v2.9.1 it worked. Now I've installed all apps I need. Everything seems to work except for Gmail. That one always crashes on start. Its background process also steadily crashes, so every other minute I see a popup that tells me "Unfortunately, Gmail has stopped". Clearing cache and data has not solved the problem. Stopping sync had no effect either. Maybe re-installing the gapps.zip in TWRP will help...
I also had problems to install TWRP 3.0.2 persistantly. My solution was to install Philz TWRP 2.8 and inside TWRP 2.8 I flashed 3.0.2. After that only 3.0.2 TWRP was available.
OptimusPro pointed out that Internet is only working if you allow apps in AFWall.
I switched AFWall+ from white-listing to black-listing and put nothing on the list, so currently everything can access the internet. And that's also what I tried in the older version of AFWall+, but it didn't work there.
One more question: where did you find the zip (for installation in recovery) of TWRP 3.0.2? I can only find img files for installation with fastboot.
I think in optimuspro version he disabled it?
you do not need a zip. In TWRP 2.8 go to INSTALL and there should be a button "Install Image" Then you can load and flash an img file.
Oh, I didn't know that you can flash img files in some recoveries. However the only partition I can select in TWRP for installation is /boot. Well, I proceed with the installation just for the fun of it... (some minutes later)... and yes, it has really overwritten /boot. That's not where a recovery belongs.
Anyway, now I can hopefully solve my problems. I use a lot of Google applications, but I guess I took a package that overwrote some files in /system that are not compatible with the rest of optimuspro's ROM. So I just flash everything again, but this time with a smaller gapps package. Let's give "micro" a try...
edit: No, that was not the solution. Gmail is still crashing.
Which opengapps version are you using?
I use arm, 5.1, pico. And then I just download the gapps from the play store.
I do not have gmail account, so I cannot test gmail. It is strange that it is not working. I meand it is just a mail app or is it so deep diving in the system?
First I tried gapps "stock". Now I see that this package was too big, because it not only installed a bunch of apps I don't need, it also removed SlimPie launcher, the camera app, and the mail app that comes with Jaguar. I guess it also removed some more apps... probably every app that could be replaced by a Google app.
Now in the 2nd run I used gapps "micro". It looks like none of the Jaguar apps have been removed. Gmail still came with the gapps package, but now it has been installed side by side with the mail app that comes with Jaguar. The same for the launcher. And of course I had to install some apps in play store (e.g. maps), which were not included in the package.
Well, I'm not sure if I like the Jaguar ROM. Sure it has the right priorities. But aside from gmail I might have found some more problems. I installed Automate in order to automatically turn on/off wifi when coming home/leaving home. Turning wifi off (and using cellular data) works fine, but when coming home and wifi is being enabled AFWall+ blocks wifi traffic. So far I could manage to unblock wifi only by activating/deactivating airplane mode (or rebooting of course). And there might be problems with WhatsApp as well. Sometimes I don't receive messages until WhatsApp has been opened. Maybe the background process doesn't run or it is not able to receive data, even over wifi. Maybe AFWall+ is blocking traffic again... or some security defaults are blocking WhatsApp. I don't know. Threema doesn't seem to have the same problems, it works very well on Jaguar.
Whats App is working for me withour problems. And AFWall+ runs normal.
But yeah, I would say that custom roms are always trickier than stock roms. But for me Jaguar is the only rom where I can say, that I am on best security level. So I can live with the issues I have.
I realized that I need to do the gps fix which is mentioned in th main thread.

until we get a 64 bit kernel, it'll stay 32. i want to build a 64 kernel cause i want to bring ubuntu touch to this phone, that requires a 64 bit boot image, if we are to use erfan's (only method for android 9 devices rn)
Thanks man.
Managed to get magisk working with this rom..alongside twrp
Simply install latest magisk canary APK (284). Give it super user when it asks and restart the app
Then when clicking install...it gave me option of direct install (make sure recovery is selected). It should install successfully
I then rebooted to bootloader and to get to twrp hold volume up after selecting recovery and dont hold anything to boot back to Los..
Can't share my boot image if that helps anyone

I gave it a try. It did indeed let me patch directly. It was very unstable. Things asking for su multiple times and not remembering my choice, certain modules not installing, and I always seemed to lose root entirely after rebooting

yup... sorry, forgot to post... I assumed it was after installing modules.
Lockscreen not work for me, in all gsi roms.
Only stock works.
rom works great, feels like a new phone.
model XT1952-4.
not working unfortunately is the FM radio.
based on the error message when trying to install FM apps, it looks like the kernel driver was not included in the rom?
I can deal with the fingerprint not working, it would be really nice to get the FM driver included so I don't have to use data.
Overall the phone is so much better with this rom, Thank You!!!!
Hi, probably a stupid question, considering I'm new: what does this differ from the Lineage OS instructions for Moto G7 Play at their web site? I mean, why shouldn't I stick with their instructions?
I just want to understand what is at stake here (again, I'm new at this world of smartphone os's)
I'm really interested in replacing Android (which I like, but it's... Google ) and all carrier bloatware stuff by a free OS.
EDIT: Nevermind. I've just realized that it isn't for the G7 Play, it's for G7 only. Sorry about this (maybe useful for other newbies like me)
Thanks for all the work
Everything seems stable been using on daily driver for 2 days now. Only issue is bluetooth audio not working. I'm wondering if the Motorola face unlock app would work however current version isn't available.

I'm using this on a Moto g⁷ Play in the USA, currently it's pretty stable. As for what's at stake, you lose access to Bluetooth audio, fingerprint & faceunlock unless you have SD card formated as portable storage and manage to get magisk working. There's a fix for Bluetooth Audio with magisk or ADB but I don't remember what the command was. Also as for magisk you should be able to fix atleast faceunlock because Motorola uses an app for it.

Hi,
From your experience which GSI is better for MOTO G7 Play 1952-2:
Havoc or Lineage ?
It depends on what u trying to do exactly if u a heavy Magisk user u want to stay away from lineage and use havoc since magisk plays well with it if u don’t care about magisk and just want a simple root then this rom be a good experience for other then rom WiFi portal issues this rom it’s excellent cause it’s the only one with the notch fix if that fix was easily implemented out this rom and could be used with another GSI that would of been fantastic...

The "old" Lineage 17.1 thread got lost during some xda server maintenance. It's not really clear to me what happened.
It couldn't be brought back for several weeks now, so I decided to create a new thread.
I'd also like to inform you that I'll provide some test builds here. Before merging bigger changes I'd like to ensure the builds are okay (not just for me).
It would be nice if some of you could test a bit. Only caveat: You won't be able to switch between test builds/official builds easily as different signature keys are used and a factory reset is needed (alternatively flashing a migration file could save you from resetting the device (more info)). However, these test builds are thought for interested persons only
You'll find the first test build here.
Changes:
switch to userspace lmkd (more info here)
It would be interesting if you experience any differences in memory management (how many apps can be opened in background, how fast is app switching, when are apps closed...).
And of course if the system is usable at all.

Lineage recovery can't do backups. TWRP can.
But standard users installing gapps could also do a backup via google servers. I guess that's the most "easiest" thing.

I've just tried to restore a recent backup for the first time with android 10 (lineage 17.1) and although it appears to backup the restore did not work. I tried it twice. Then I remember reading that twrp were having problems being totally compatible with the new partitioning of android 10 so there have been no updates since may 2019. I'm assuming that's the issue with the latest backups (and I don't use gapps).

What's happening when you're restoring? Are you running into a bootloop?
Then probably this could help.
Please keep in mind TWRP isn't able to decrypt an encrypted /data partition. As long as we don't fix it, you won't have any chance to backup an encrypted device.
If you're not encrypted it shouldn't be a problem, though.
Edit:
You can find the build with the according changes here.
Please report back if it works for you. Keep in mind you can't dirty flash this over an official build.
Edit 2:
I checked the issue on my own and it worked. The change got already merged so it'll be included in the next official build as well. As builds are weekly temporary you could download it next saturday.

Thanks for the info. That's exactly what's happening but I have no idea how to apply that patch. I don't really want to install an unoffical rom: that's how I discovered twrp wasn't working properly, testing one of my builds then hoping to go back to your offical from restore.
Any way I'm happy to wait for your next issue.
Thanks for doing a great job.
I've just installed the Lineage OS 17.1 official on my Swift. Although this 17.1 thread mentions OpenGapps pico only (which was the case under LOS 16), even the pico package produces an insufficient space error on my Swift. (This is after a completely clean - wipe system and data and all caches - installation).
Have Gapps just gotten too big for these small devices? Or is there some trick to get it to work?
thanks.

Last time I tried it worked. But you're right - the available space on /system is very rare. I already made some "hacks" to free up some space. You could try to overcome this by installing an older pico gapps package from here which is smaller. It'll update itself if you connect to a wifi network anyway.
Another thing you could try is using FlameGapps. The final thing would be resizing the /system partition.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I can't reproduce it on my device.
And can someone give feedback for the latest testbuilds featuring userspace lmkd? I'd really appreciate it.
Certification Status on 17.1
Hi,
I am currently on LineageOS 16 and Play Store reports my device as "certified", which allows me to run Netflix, banking apps, etc.
Will this also be the case when updating to 17.1 with Pico Gapps wihtout tweaking / installing anything else?
Thanks!
Must sideload, not enough space to push and install from local, I feel silly...
Aargh. Grrr. (Angry at myself. I was being stupid).
The reason why even the pico package "didn't fit" is that I'd pushed it to the device and was trying to install it locally, which (of course, in retrospect, despite there being plenty of other space on other partitions) used up some of the precious free space on /system .. for a thing that needed space to install on /system.
I deleted the local copy of the .ZIP file and sideloaded it, and it fit.
Aargh. Grrr.
Aside from my own self-stupidity, I did notice one thing that might be of interest to someone: The FlameGapps package installer refused to continue, stating that the package was built for Android 10 but this device is running (blank).
Anyway, many thanks!
-Jay

Will this also be the case when updating to 17.1 with Pico Gapps wihtout tweaking / installing anything else?
Thanks!

I don't use gapps on my own. But play certification is a mystery sometimes. However, as nobody complained until now (and I guess most users install gapps...) it should be okay. Maybe someone can verify this.
Hello there. I am currently using the latest version of LOS 17.1. There is no problem throughout the system, but when I try to use one application, the phone resets itself. While opening the application, it stays on the white screen and the phone is reset. Application;

I flashed the latest nightly + pico gapps using TWRP and
everything is working beautifully
Playstore reports the device to be certified
So thanks a lot!

Aargh.

Can verify that my Play Store, on 17.1, reports my ridiculously modded Swift as certified without having to do anything to achieve that.
Sorry, I know I am a real dunderhead when it comes to these things and I apologise for such a basic question. But...
I have a Swift 2 X which is working on Oreo. If I replace this with LineageOS 17 do I have to do anything "fancy" to get Google Pay to work after I've installed LineageOS?
I've installed LineageOS on my Oppo R5 which doesn't have NFC so this can't use "Tap 'n' Pay" anyway. I've installed LineageOS on mine and my Wife's Nextbit Robin and Google Pay - "Tap 'n' Pay" - worked without doing anything more than install and go.
It's just that I do really like the facility of Google Pay and wouldn't want to lose that just for the sake of system wide dark mode.
Sorry again for being so dense as to not understand.
Requirements:
- Stock Clean Firmware: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/kane/official/
- TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/one-vision/how-to/twrp-3-3-1-0-root-updated-kane-troika-t4102839
- GSI ROM (arm64, A/B versions): https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list
- Permissiver_V5 Flashable Zip: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=6006931924117940902
- Google Play Services APK - Whenever you boot into a GSI the first thing you should do is install the Google Play Services APK. Installing it will clear the "System Updating..." notification and you will be able to login to your Google account.
Google Play Services for Android 9 GSI: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...-24-13-100400-316577029-android-apk-download/
Google Play Services for Android 10 GSI: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...-24-13-120400-316577029-android-apk-download/
Instructions:
- Flash Stock firmware
- Wipe system and data in TWRP
- Reboot to bootloader
- Run the following command in the command line:
Code:
fastboot flash system [yourGSI.img]
- While still in fastboot mode run:
Code:
fastboot -w
- Reboot to TWRP and flash Permissiver_V5 zip file
- Reboot to the system
Notes:
Look at the size of the downloaded GSI.img file (Not the zip file), If it's larger than 3GB you won't be able to flash it because the system partition is limited to 3GB)
Permissiver_V5 is required for some GSI to successfully boot, some of GSIs might work without it but if you don't flash it and the GSI doesn't boot that might be the main problem.
GSI ROMs might have some bugs, the most known bug at least on One Vision and maybe Action is the Bluetooth Freeze Bug that might happen when you try to play music over Bluetooth. Be prepared for anything.
Not every GSI will successfully boot. Some of them might not boot but don't worry as there are a lot of GSIs for you to try on.
Same procedure works for both One Action and One Vision
FAQ:
Do I need to flash GAPPS after I install an GSI?
No. Flashing GAPPS is an optional step, most of the GSIs might already come with GAPPS installed and all you have to do to enjoy your ROM is to install the Google Play Services apk mentioned in my post.
You must install GAPPS if the GSI you're using doesn't have the Google Play Store app and you want to install any apps from the Play Store, but even then there are alternatives to install Play Store apps even without installing any GAPPS package
After installing a GSI my phone it's stuck in a bootloop, what do I do?
The main reason for your android not booting up is that some vendors enforce SELinux which stops GSIs from booting and the fix for that is by flashing the Permissiver_V5 zip file to be able to boot into GSI.
But if you can't boot even after you flashed Permissiver_V5, you either downloaded the wrong GSI or the GSI isn't compatible with your device so you have to find another GSI to flash. Remember that not every GSI can successfully boot.
The X GSI has the Y problem! How do I fix it?
Even after your GSI finished booting there's no guarantee that everything will work as it should. The best thing you can do is to find support on google, or if the creator of the GSI has provided any contact links (Email, Telegram, etc) you can contact him and ask him if there's a fix for your problem or not.
This is something new for me, I was used to install rom and gapps, is this something similar?

Flashing GAPPS is totally optional, GSIs will work even without flashing them. Most of them already have GAPPS installed, other might not work with GAPPS.
Is totally up to you if you want to flash GAPPS on a GSI, but as I said most of them don't need it, the most important thing to install after flashing a GSI is to install the Google Play Service to login into your Google account and fix any issues related to Android Setup
[Edit] I've added a small FAQ section to my post above

There are 2 main reasons why you should install GAPPS:
1: The GSI you're flashing doesn't have any google apps and in that case to be able to login into a google account and install apps using Play Store you have to install a GAPPS package to have access to google play store
2: The GSI has access to PlayStore but you just want to have other apps like YouTube, Gmail installed in your system. In this case I myself, I prefer to install the Google apps that I need from play store rather than installing a GAPPS package that bloats my phone with apps I don't use.
Anyway, flashing GAPPS is totally optional and it's up to you if you want it or not.
The most important thing when installing a GSI is to look if it has any google apps, if yes then it's important to install Google Play Services apk listed in my post.
To give you a small example Google Experience comes with google apps included so you never have to install GAPPS. I'm using Google Experience and everything worked out of the box, it didn't require the Google Play Services but I guess I just got lucky.
This can't be said for when I've installed an Android 11 Pixel-based GSI, where I had to install the Google Play Services to be able to use my Google Account and finish the android setup.
After few weeks I decided to try this and it works just fine, thank you. Unfortunately ROMs are not created for that big hole on the screen. It hides time, notifications etc., otherwise it works pretty well.. Any sugestions how to repair it? Thank you again
Go to developer settings. You find notch settings.

I installed Descendant X, there are some options for notch, but it doesn't work for One Vision.
Put the apk attached in /system/overlay and it will correct the values for the punch hole. Don't forget to reboot after. Also I've made this a long time a go but I didn't had time to test it as I'm on Android 8 due to working on something.
Report back if it works or not thanks.

Hello,
I have a brand new device which has not officially been released yet. Therefore, there is no stock firmware image available or recovery image. Just wanted to get that out of the way. I could not remove a lot of the manufacturers bloatware because i could not root or port TWRP without a stock image or recovery image.
I stumbled onto Project Treble. I flashed phh treble and it worked. Well, I managed to get everything to work with some workarounds. The only thing I am having trouble with is when I install phh with gapps. After booting I get the "Your device is not Google certified" message repeatedly spammed.
The only workaround I have been able to get to work for the uncertified device message is to remove phh superuser. I have tried using the Google device registration page. It does not work for my device. I want to keep root so I can pull the recovery image and port TWRP for this device. Are there any other fixes that will work? In order to pick up in some of my games I think I need Google Play?
Thanks,
Rocky
What Gapps? you can try bitgapps, opengapps, etc...
If google play is impossible, you can download .apk android apps (Android PacKage, APK) from www.uptodown.com, www.apkmirror.com and www.apkpure.com, unless it is google play exclusive(probably payment content?)

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I need to recover paid content. There are games and programs that I have spent a decent amount on that I would like to have access too. I wish there was a phh gsi image with magisk root instead of phh root. From what I read you can disable it with Magisk.
I do not know a whole lot about root. I wonder if now that I am using phh gsi if it would be possible to install Magisk now? I could not install it before because the device does not have a system image available yet since it has not officially been released. Like I said I do not know much about root, could I just download a vanilla phh gsi image and patch that with magisk?

No no no, you need to patch boot.img for magisk, not system. Go to www.apkmirror.com (app repository), search and download 'magisk ' app(that is magisk manager), click and install the downloaded .apk file, allow install from browser, and after installing use the app to patch the boot.img(search Google), and flash patched boot.
I thought I bricked the phone but was able to recover. I am getting an error that I cannot seam to resolve. The phone screen will go black. It goes to a crash dump screen that says the fallowing.
Qualcomm Crash Dump Mode
modem subsystem failure reason
trm_rf_alloc.cpp:459:allocation
not found for RF Tech:2 Band:126
sub_capability 0.
After this happens and I reboot the device I have a hard time getting mobile data to work. It is definitely an error pertaining to the signal radio. I have no clue how to fix it. With this happening the device is pretty much unusable.
