Hi, I am curious if anyone can answer this question.
I am a deliberation from obtaining the Tab S version SM-T805K/SM-T805S/SM-T805L launched in Korea with the Exynos 5433 processor. The article here explain this product: phonearena . com/news/Speedier-Samsung-Galaxy-Tab-S-with-Exynos-5433-processor-and-LTE-A-to-be-launched-soon_id61316.; this aricle has an inacccuracy probably from translation, but it supports 'broadband LTE-A', which combines three LTE bands, instead of two like the regular LTE-A for 1.5x increased throughput. Anyway, the release is similar to the Galaxy S5 'broadband LTE-A' with model number SM-G906(S/K/L)
Obviously chainfire's autoroot package for the SM-T805 doesn't work due to different processor.s However, it shares the same processor as the Note 4, so I am curious if there is a method to botain root suing existing downloads and by using TWRP. This amounts to a general question. Is root processor-specific? Does one of the root packages for Note 4 work? Or if a new root package needs to be written for the model altogether.
Please let me know your thoughts.
No the root method is not cpu specific, but it is device specific. However the TWRP method is not as long as there is a twrp version for your device that can be installed. This requires an unlocked boot loader, it's not common for Samsung to lock bootloaders. It's usually only US models that have locked bootloaders.
There is a firmware update for the SM-T805S at Samsung Updates, if you download it, extract the recovery image from it, send it to me and I'll build TWRP for your device.

Wow thank you so much! I have linked it here.
https: // drive.google. com/file/d/0B2CszRKCbxDSM0RuVHI4SHlfWTg/view?usp=sharing
Just for my own clarity, the TWRP version is not CPU or device -specific, but requires a version that can be installed; would you please care to elaborate?
Ah, there is some ambiguity in the thread.
So, the TWRP recovery itself is device specific? and then rooting can be done by sdcard method in TWRP with current version of chainfire's SuperSU zip?
Thank you.
To boot twrp or any recovery it has to be built for a device using files specific to that device such as the kernel. It has to built and configured so that the kernel can boot and then boot recovery. It needs to know the partition layout of that device and such things as the display resolution.
Ashyx is an awesome recovery builder. He built many recoveries such as a twrp mod and also twrp for snapdragon tab s. Without him, some devices may never gotten an custom recovery
I notice that the partition structure seems to be slightly different in the new version.
When you get your tablet I will need you to run a command on the device to get some info.
Hopefully then I can build it.

Just wondering, can it be done from the device itself (no ADB)? If so I can try to get someone to do this on a display model, but availability is questionable. Plus, for some reason, the SM-T805S model has mysteriously disappeared from the Samsung Korea website in the past couple weeks (http:// www.samsung. com/sec/consumer/mobile-tablet/tablet/filter/). The SM-T805K seems to be the most available.
This is the model I am most likely to get. If I got the SM-T805K is there a way to get a hand on the firmware through Kies or other means?
Could you post your commands here? Someone with the device is bound to read this forum and run the commands, but it may take a while. But who knows
Thank you for working on this! :good:
The s,k,l variable is probably just carrier variants. The actual part of the firmware I need is likely the same.

Yes, they are are carrier variants (SK Telecom, KT Olleh, LG U+).
So, does it require ADB to do? what were the commands? :fingers-crossed:
(I spose PM if needed. Thanks!)
You can run the commands on the device itself. It would be best if you have the device because the output would be quite long so a screenshot would be best.
Sorry I havent gotten back sooner. I will report back here when I get the device. :silly:
No worries
Sorry to jump in. Just one question. If the tab is designed/locked for a specific carrier, is there a way to unlock it to any carrier without changing the original ROM?
Thinking of buying this model also, however, im not from Korea!
TQ

I've read on other forums that people have used their korean-carrier device abroad with foreign sims without issue.
This si just a conjecture, but I wonder if we load a custom rom if the device would even be carrier locked anymore. If we delete the hidden.img and cache.img from the rom, if this would solve it? Also, I have seen rooted apps that claim to unlock your device. For me, I consider calling the carrier to have the device unlcoked an option as well.
Using this deivce in the United sttates it is more relevant to note the LTE bands. AT&T would be the only compatible arrier on band 17, and the network would not support LTE-A or broadband LTE-A, but LTE-A is only available in three cities as far as I know.
I am viewing this forum from the SM-T807 version, and the lag is ridiculous. I don't believe it is the bloatware...

This forum is terrible for lag, due to all the java crap and ads running on it. The stock browser deals with it the best imo.
However I use the XDA app which provides a smoother experience.

I'm sorry to disappoint. No, I haven't. I was just thinking of getting one the next time I go. depending on the circumtances and this would give me time to do something with the 6 tablets that I currently have.
Ebay acquired a site called gmarket.co.kr a few years back where retailers in south korea sell crap online; shipping is only in-country, but the other obstacle is making payment; you owuld have to wire your funds internationally, but there are fees on top of fees depending on how many banks it has to cross separate from daily forex changes. The cost for a single unit would probably end up to be a thousand dollars. For the shipping, I know people who are among the 27,000 american military deployed over regions in south korea, and through them shipping can amount to a APO or FPO address with USPS Priority Mail.

I should of been more clean in my Question.
The EU Lg bootloader Unlock that is available. would it work on the 815K compared to just a 815 or 815EU.
As far as i can gather from the state of these threads the phones are the same. (besided bands you mentioned) when it comes to unlocking the bootloader.
~Thanks in Advance.
Unlock only works for 815EU models currently.. No other models are supported/unlocked...

Please guide me.
Hello. Just would like to get the ball rolling on this, as no one has yet to make a thread for this device. I realize chances look slim right now of any possibility, but we might as well get to brainstorming.
hope in some Root user method ....
unnecessary thread. please see below for all updates for all models. At the moment we are speculating that only ONE model will be available for unlock in the USA. The unbranded unlocked carrier model US998.

That isn't the point of the other thread the other thread is for tmobile v30 which already has a bootloader unlock just no fastboot flash commands
The first post states its for the T-Mobile model, but all the information up until now is the same as we currently have no progress. It just so happens there are more T-Mobile users of the V30 than there are of the Verizon model. Once unlock, fastboot, etc can be addressed for one unlockable model any progress will branch off onto other US unlockable models.

Not really they face different challenges and why hold back the tmo thread for issues pertaining to unlocking a bootloader when they don't need that part?

Agreed. There's also a general bootloader unlock/root thread that even supersedes the T-Mobile thread.
LG V30 - Unlock bootloader and Root
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/help/unlock-bootloader-root-t3665927
It was started back in September, and the T-Mobile thread was a fork of that one. Because the T-Mobile people already had bootloader unlock and didn't want to discuss bootloader unlock. So they started their own thread, and that thread op says he ONLY wants to discuss the T-Mobile variant in that thread.

Well, Verizon LG V30 variant doesn't have bootloader unlock. It's quite different from the T-mobile situation. So, this Verizon thread is another fork.
ALSO, due to information not available back in September I wouldn't be surprised if some or all the bootloader locked carrier variants (like Verizon especially) have fastboot flash commands -- if someone could unlock the bootloader.
This is a complete turnaround from what I thought back in September, when it seemed LG had removed the fastboot flash commands from all the 2017 flagship phones. If you read that post I linked above I give my reasons why the change in thinking.
I still believe the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list is the only GUARANTEED way these LG V30 phones can be rooted -- and thus why I advised everyone to buy the phones that would be eligible for that bootloader unlock list... But I would be very curious to see an AT&T or Verizon or even U.S. Cellular LG V30 model bootloader unlocked by some exploint -- to see what's underneath.
While this could all be discussed in the LG Bootloader Unlock and Root thread, there's nothing wrong with having a dedicated Verizon variant thread if there's enough interest. Basically you will need some developer to find an exploit.
Read post #2 of the T-Mobile thread. At first it seemed like it was starting out as duplicate/rehash of the LG V30 Bootloader Unlock and Root thread -- and I pointed out it was unnecessary -- until the op said he only wanted to discuss the T-Mobile variant. OK, then.
Same here.

I'm considering getting a V30. If I find a US998, is unlock & root virtually guaranteed? Also, it sounds like the T-mobile models are unlockable & rootable. If I find a carrier-unlocked T-mobile phone, will it be able to use Verizon's LTE technology (or whatever is the latest) or will I be stuck with GSM or something else that doesn't match the best Verizon has to offer?
Thanks!

The open market US998 V30/V30+ has not yet been placed on the LG Developer Bootloader Unlock list. Should be, soon (it's been six weeks since release).
The T-Mobile variant does not yet have root. One guy said he has it figured out, but he bricked his phone and is waiting for replacement. In the meantime, other methods are being worked on.
You wouldn't have Verizon CDMA bands with T-Mobile phone.

Okay so, since I'm sticking with the VS996 (for now) I'm really optimistic on root/bootloader unlock, just to clarify though, so the current situation is that the T-Mobile variant HAS unlocked bootloader BUT commands disabled hence no TWRP or root...
On the other hand we have the Verizon variant which has LOCKED bootloader, but could potentially have all commands intact/not striped away...
So all in all, if some amazing devs find a way to unlock the bootloader, we could potentially have a strong chance of root?, (Assuming commands are actually there)
With android 8.0 officially rolled out, I'm just wondering if anyone is currently looking for any exploits/or working towards cracking/unlocking the bootloader, thanks for any replies, staying optimistic :fingers-crossed:

Personally not a developer or really know anything about developing root, but we could start a bounty for the VS996 and/or other versions.

Omg, spent hours scouring XDA for 'VS996' & even just '996' only ever finding one thread... and a random Google search finds this thread. Anyways, my adhd makes busy forums hard to sift thru and I'll cut to the chase as I've been reading for hours... On this VS996...
I have a VS996 that can be used for fodder (testing).
I hate Verizon and want on Google Fi so I'm kicking myself for not getting a Pixel at this point. You got stuff you want me to try? Sweet. I run Linux as a competent user.... But im currently in the middle of soldering a new power jack on my laptop... while ALSO in the middle of moving....
Lemme know.

Unfortunately, although I'm sure everyone in here is very appreciative of this, I don't think there's any developers actually working on the VS996, I hope there is/or will be for you guys, but don't get your hopes up...
You can't even get to the hidden menus with the Verizon variant.
Just so everyone is aware. The VS996 by Verizon does have root with unlocked bootloader. You can Frankenstein Flash vs998 firmware to 7.0 then update to vs998 8.0 then flash an exploit unlock.bin found in the 'WTF...' thread.
I successfully flashed my VS996 to 998, updated to Oreo then flashed the exploit unlock.bin and can confirm this method works.
Verizon can suck it again. Woot.
I have the Nokia 6.1 (2018) international version. I am trying to enable the US LTE bands for compatibility with T-Mobile. Is there a way for me to do this without root? Is there a way to do it with root? Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Hum... what is the "international version"? (TA-????)
The international version is TA-1068
I'd also like to know.
I'm getting band 4,5 on AT&T only.
You can only manage / force your phone to do that with root.
No root = use provider / googles android-one standard settings.

This isn't something you can do with or without root. It's not that those bands are somehow locked by software or firmware. The hardware is different.
I know the EM can be rooted, but is someone working on a bootloader unlock for the other G7 models?
I got in touch with TMobile to see if their version would be bootloader unlockable. They gave me the run around, told me to contact LG who hasn't responded. One thing I did manage to get out of TMobile was a firm denial that they requested the device remain locked its likely apathy on the part of LG holding us back at this point. ?I haven't dug into mine yet because I have more interesting unlocked devices to work on
Giving that the only European models can be unlocked most likely not but maybe a bug in the future.
Have saw a AWM model which flash to EM model and get its bootloader unlocked on a second hand trading website in China. The seller said he flash the EM firmware and change the IMEI in order to unlock his phone "officially"
I'm eagerly waiting for the US unlocked G710ULM. If this variant is unlocked, why didn't LG unlocked bootloader?, it's been almost 4 months of no news from LG. .Why giving special status to unlocked European models , since LG V30? If that's the case then LG G6 US997 could be the last US model enjoying root?
