Has anyone been able to add their Citi MasterCard to Google Wallet lately? I've been trying since June 13th and it just times out. The card does get added to the Google online site. but not on the phone. I'm on the stock Sprint ROM and not rooted. The Google Prepaid card adds fine.
I originally added but then re-installed a rom and when I went to go re-add it I have been getting the same thing. They said its some sort of "out of sync" issue and I have a ticket open but never heard back.
I'd also had my citi card on the phone, but wiped Wallet to update to a newer version of Wallet. Now it just keeps timing out.
I called Citi and they cancelled the association with my phone, but it still just keeps timing out.
The Citi guy said there was a known issue with HTC EVO 4G LTE phones, but that there shouldn't be with mine.
Oh well, guess it's back to plastic until they sort it out.
Same here... Mine gets stuck in adding card. I have opened tickets. It seems to be a Wallet problem. Citi bank reset my account but still does not work. At least the prepaid works.
Ditto. I can add a prepaid card but when I try to add my Citi credit card it hangs every time (after several minutes) with the message "Error Adding Card". Citi says they have resolved Wallet problem with most phones, including the gnex, but they obviously don't know we're rooted. Many ROMs spoof different identification codes for various reasons, which could play a role. For example, the ROM I use shows device as "GT-I9300" and "toro" in the build prop. What do your build props show for device?
I was just now able to add my Citi card to the Wallet app on my HTC One X, so whatever server side issues they were having appear resolved , at least for the time being.

You rooted?
I just talked to Wallet support and they said being rooted is the likely reason we can't add a card. Here's the follow-up email Google sent:
"We strongly discourage gaining system-level "root" access to your phone if
you plan to use Google Wallet. We are unable to support devices with
unauthorized operating systems as the security layers of the device may be
limited.
If you have other questions, please reply to this email and I'll be happy
to help. Have a nice day!"
Yes, I am rooted, and using a custom rom.
I had the citi card on this phone with an older version of MoDaCo wallet hack, but lost it when I upgraded to last software hack. It took three days trying, but finally got it to take.
I also have Wallet on my GNex, but just with the prepaid. I don't recall which hack I got it on there with.
You might want to try the MoDaCo hack , it disables three different checks the app makes for root, device and carrier.

I am still unable to re-add my citicard. Added and worked fine in May under yakjuxw 4.0.2. But then flashed takju 4.0.4 and I haven't been able to add it back again since. Never been rooted. I had no idea that flashing the US version of software (or any rom) could blow out wallet until after it wouldn't work, I searched and found that the secure element may be blown. Called Citibank twice, sent google feedback twice, posted here in another thread. No help or feedback from anyone so far. I can't even tell if its a Citibank issue, google issue, or an issue caused on my phone because I flashed a new ROM without doing anything to google wallet first. It says verifying card, seems to go on to the next step but then gets stuck at adding card and says unable to add card, call Citibank. I'm not willing to try the prepaid card, for fear of losing any money I put on it. Its been about a month now like this, so I've pretty much lost all my initial trust in google wallet. Nice idea, but completely worthless.

Tried the MoDaCo hacked Wallet, no luck. I'm thinking all the recent "server issues" are related to Google tightening things up. If anyone really wants to use Wallet, might be best to return their phone to stock. Otherwise, just carry your credit card, it's not very heavy!

LOL to just carry your card line.
There's so few places that I actually go to that have paypass that the Citi card on the pine is really just a novelty. Kind of a geek pleasure. Anyone with these high end phones that reads these forums is probably a cutting edge tech kind of person. We want this stuff to work just for fun.
If the server business is google cracking down, then why did it work for me this morning? I'm on same ROM, same root as when it wouldn't work.
I was going to switch roms today, but now I'm afraid it will break Wallet again.
I don't think Google wants to block anyone. They want people to use Wallet. The only blocks they put in place are to appease the telcos or the bank.

You're right on with the cutting edge thing. I used to love to amaze sales clerks by paying with my phone. It was always the first time they ever saw that done.
I'm a bit of a crackflasher but until recently I was always able to reset wallet and then add my Citi credit card, probably did it 10 times. It stopped working with new ROMs at the same time Google was having issues with its server, which is why I'm thinking something's changed on Google's end when dealing with rooted phones and custom ROMs.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm wondering whether the ID info in the build.prop of custom ROMs is an issue. I know the ROM I'm using now identifies my Gnex as GT-I9300. I did try editing the build.prop to stock ID, and also tried the MoDaCo hack which supposedly bypasses such ID checks, to no avail.
Don't think I'm going to waste much more time on Wallet, but I'll keep an eye on this thread in hopes of a fix or hack.
There's certainly several things going on behind the scenes.
Don't forget that if your card is associated with Wallet already, trying to add it will fail. Try too many times and you get locked out for a day.
If a new ROM changes whatever that association indicator is, that cooks be the cause of the failure. Never hurts to call Citi and ask them to reset on their end.
I agree about retail clerks always never having seen pay with a phone before. I always get that "what the heck?" look. One clerk acted like I was pulling some kind of scam.

i posted about this issue a couple of months ago...not many people responded to that thread...i added my citi card successfully then reset the app to flash some stuff then when i tried to re-add it, it would give me an error message...i called citi a couple of times and they said they were going to reset it on their end
i tried it again a few weeks later and ever since then it just hangs on the adding card part...it doesnt error out...just hangs...i never got to try it at a store
Im rooted but just. My build is IMM76D.L700FD02. As for rooting what I understood was basically that was google pulling a CYA regarding the security issues with rooting, not that they were blocking the app.
distortedloop, do you get the notification about rooted devices not being supported when opening wallet?

No, I don't get that warning, but I'm using MoDaCo's hacked Wallet app which disables the root, carrier, and device build checks.
Problem with wallet only with citi card?
It seems based on this thread, it really is only a problem with using the citi card with wallet.
I am using a rooted Nexus with custom rom and wallet works for me.
(Note: I have not changed roms since it has been working.)

Correct. Problem is adding Citi Card only. Wallet works fine. Prepaid cards add fine. Citi card fails to add after several minutes communicating with the server, returning the message "Error adding card". Initial verification of Citi account information is successful, the failure comes during "adding card to Google Wallet".

Plus, the problem is just adding the Citi card to Wallet on the phone.
For me, the first attempt to put my Citi card on the phone failed, but the Citi card was added to my Google account online (also confusingly called Wallet now) and was available for selection in the Play Store.

Yes! Matter of fact, there is a place in the NFC settings to choose what your default tap to pay service is. Whether it is Google Wallet or SoftCard.
Used Google Wallet last night on mine.
Thanks hope all are enjoying there new toy note 4
So i setup Google Wallet on my Note 4, it was working fine on my 3. Went to Home Depot to get some things and it was declined. When i went to find out why, this is the reason it gave:
There was an issue processing your transaction. For your security, you must bring your device online at least once every 24 hours.
A quick google search yielded a single result and no answers. Anyone else seen this or have any clues?

Was your google wallet set up for 24 hours? Just wondering if it needs to be loaded for a period of time before allowing purchases as a small safety measure against identity theft or something.
I wished Google Wallet worked for my Note 3, at least the NFC.
I just use Google wallet in a grocery store works flawlessly.. Am happy
I'm glad Google removed that ridiculous restriction that only Wallet works on certain certified Android devices. Using Wallet on my Note 4 ... works like a charm at CVS, Walgreens and my local grocery store in Nor Calif.

It hadnt been setup on the new device for 24 hours yet, more like about 20. Im not sure if thats what its stating or not. And my device is also almost always online in some fashion. I just wish i was in an area where more places were set up for contactless payments. I havent been anywhere since saturday that takes it so i cant even see if its working now.

Galaxy S3 with Wallet App
I had the same problem (and same message) at Home Depot today when it had worked at Home Depot before. I chatted with a Google Wallet specialist and he said that the device that has to be online every 24 hrs was the Wallet App not the phone the app was on. If this is true Google Wallet app may be unusable, however, he looked into why it was declined and told me to do the following:
Geet H 2:00 PM
Thank you for the details.
Thank you for waiting.
I would request you to clear data (Settings > Apps > Wallet > Clear data) and then sign into Wallet again. This should fix the issue.
We will see the next time I try Wallet App
Same error here (on a OnePlus One). Doesn't make any feasible sense that you should have go open the app atleast once every 24 hours. I work at a winn Dixie and we just put up signs saying we accept apple pay so I figured I'd try wallet. Got this error the 2 separate times I tried and thought maybe it was just the error it throws back if the place doesn't accept wallet but I thought it was odd that it would recognize it if that were the case. I did it at self checkout but as soon as it gives an error and declines it makes a loud noise and the register calls for an employee so I didn't feel like looking like a jackass so I just quickly canceled it and used my card both times. Just found out we have a coke machine in my apartment complex and figured I'd try it. Same error. But since I'm alone and outside I tried it again and it worked. No clue what's going on. Way to make apple pay continue to look smoother Google.
6 months later I'm still having this same issue. Anyone get a working solution since the last post?
No problems using Google Wallet with NFC on this phone.
Note Google now owns softcard and they are disabling the app to support google wallet.
Been using Google wallet all over Disney World without any issues. Never had an issue with Google Wallet except home depot, which doesn't appear to accept it even though it shows tap and pay should work on the credit card machine.
Wallet needs a data connection once a day. It claims the app doesn't need to be loaded.
Hello friends.
Is anyone else having trouble getting Google Pay to work? Let me know your experience.
For me, I got it to work on my old phone, but my 20X gives me an error when adding a card. I have the China version.
I managed to add 2 cards on my older phone. Uninstall and reinstall Google pay on my new phone. The cards show up now which is good!
I haven't tried it in a store to test that it works yet, but I'll let you know in a few days
Global rom should work, China rom will not, I have a feeling the framework in the china rom prevents this. Google and china are in a competition with regards to this.
I'm going to tinker with my phone and see what happens. I managed to get the card added, just need to test it out in a store...
It works on my older Chinese Mate 9, so I am hopeful.
I'll attach a screenshot.

Is yours the China Version or the Global? If you got the cards added onto the China version then I'd like to know how, as I tried and it added the cards to Google Pay, but not accessible on the phone, the phone said it couldn't add it at this time but that I could pay on other websites through google, so I never got it to show on the phone the cards.
Mine work. But I'm in Asia.

I bypassed the problem with Google Pay by loading it on my old phone (Chinese Mate 9) and managed to add 2 cards on it. I uninstalled and reinstalled Google Pay on my Mate 20 X and logged in. My cards loaded from my account without any problem.

Bought Unlocked Pixel 3 From Google, & T-Mobile Crammed an App Onto the Phone Anyway!
How to make a customer very angry, and concerned about security...
Bought a brand-new Pixel 3 from Google, inserted my T-Mobile SIM card, (Goodbye Sony Xperia Series! Good Riddance!) and went about my business with my new Android 10 phone.
But a few days after, just today, I see a screen pop up that was pink - I asked me if I wanted to check and see if my phone was "eligible" for unlocking.
One surmises that T-Mobile noticed the new device ID associated with the same old SIM card, and downloaded the app WITHOUT PERMISSION AND WITHOUT ANY NOTICE THAT THEY WERE DOING SO. They also did not even bother to check the ID against their own inventory to determine if they had sold the phone or not, if they did, they would have seen that it was a Pixel, which they don't offer.
At no time did I visit a T-Mobile sit or download any T-Mobile related apps. They just took it upon themselves to silently install software without even asking.
So here's the punchline - what ELSE might they have installed, and how can I be sure about this?
What else might they install in the future? On whose behalf?

What's worse is that the app itself claims that you CAN remove the app, after it has (correctly) determined that the phone is not locked.
Is your app also a "T-Mobile" app with a pink icon, or is it a variant that is branded for the Google FI service?

The app is pink I believe I got a Verizon pixel 3 xl cause the OEM unlock option is greyed out so I can't even root the phone
During the initial setup, there is a "sneaky" screen that asks if you want to finish (or something, I forgot). But if you expand that screen, there are several apps that Google intends to install, and you can opt out right there. Duo is definitely one of the apps, and several T-Mobile apps (I'm on TMO) as well as some others. I opted out and don't have any TMO apps.
Just like the above comment, it's in your 'additional-apps' section of the initial setup. If you uncheck? It doesn't install.

Yep. This. If the app(s) are installed it's because you let the setup install them. They (Google/T-Mobile) didn't install them on the phone without your consent. You just missed where you have the option to not install them.

Well, that must be how it was done - anyway, the app is gone now, all by itself, so it appears to be yes, an undetectable silent install of an undelete-able "system app", but it seems that once you are verified as "unlocked", it self-deletes.
But I got nothing but the "unlocker", no Duo installed for me. (I like Google Authenticator - 2FA without anything else to carry, and SIM-swap-proof).
So this was the paternalistic Google trying to be helpful, but creeping people out yet again with their presumptuousness.

Banks need to enable that feature on their cards and PayPal, I'm not sure if you can call them, have them enable it for your account.
OK this weirdly started happening to me after flashing the .36 update. I had 3 cards added from 3 different banks previously - after clearing out GPay, it only let me add one card, telling me the other 2 banks aren't setup to do GPay (which I know isn't correct).
Not sure if this is an outage thing, a .36 thing, or the way in which I updated the phone thing...
Checking in with my bank, apparently there's some issue with Visa cards at the moment - have you got a Visa card? Both of my two cards which aren't working (from two different banks) are Visa, so that much checks out at least
Try contacting your bank. It's all about them. It's just security check. It happens once in a while.
I had a similar issue when setting up my P6 Pro, it offered to enable GPay with my card (whilst initial setup), but then after authorization it gave me an error. Problem was that my creditcard company wanted a SMS verification and only the GPay App (and not the setup tool) supports that, so I had to manually re-add it later in the GPay App.
I have the same issue, can't add my starling card keeps saying contact my bank fs, gpay accepts starling but still can't do it

No I have a MasterCard. And it's the one that I use for Google subscriptions so I can't delete it. I'll call the bank today and see if it's a security issue.

Yeah this is a given. I'll be contacting today
just today PayPal was able to be added. Really was tired of contacting my bank anyway, everytime i reset my phone. Adding paypal seams so much easier
No issue getting my visa activated, but it's been previously activated on my previous phone for 5 years or so.
I had the same problem recently but my phone (4a5g) had an unlocked bootloader. When I read locked it it worked normally. The bootloader was unlocked because I was participating in the Pixel 4a 5G beta. It's working fine on my 6 pro.
