Hello,
So I don't know much about this so I am hoping others will know.
I had to update my daughter's phone on Cricket and I checked the BYOD list and missed the part of the Galaxy S20 being the SM-G981U1 is the model that works with Cricket. I ordered a used unlocked G981U model. I was able to flash the G981U1 stock firmware to it. My question is, the IMEI shows cricket it's the G981U and not the U1. So via chat I gave them an IMEI for a S20 FE that is supported. The phone does work on Cricket right now but will that change? Is there anything I can do to this phone to ensure it will keep working? Just wanted to know before the 30 day return window. Thanks for any help!

Okay so long story short, I have a Sprint Galaxy S8+ I preordered and outright bought (for $850) directly from Samsung in April. This last month I decided to switch with my family to Verizon. Turns out the IMEI of the phone is not recognized by the Verizon network and my phone technically works but always shows I am on roaming. Is there anyway to fix this? The phone IS unlocked I got it unlocked by Sprint, and no Samsung is not budging on helping me at all. They basically just say "Go back to Sprint the phone works fine". I was just curious if I rooted the phone and flashed a Verizon ROM onto the device will it get rid of the roaming and possibly make it able to be seen by the Verizon network? I know flashing the ROM doesnt change the IMEI but honestly Im stuck with what to do because neither, Sprint, Verizon, or Samsung is trying to help me.
You could try the unlocked firmware. I don't know if it would work but doesn't hurt to try

The Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile version of s8/s8+ won't work for Verizon. Verizon's dont work for Sprint either - even you flash it with unlocked firmware. Unless you change the IMEI, but it's illegal. Both Sprint and Verizon required the IMEI in their database. That's the reason I bought unlocked version from Samsung directly. My phone shows OPEN MARKET on sprint. I just ported to Sprint from Verizon to take advantage of the 1 year free service. But I can't use the internet when I'm talking on the phone.
Don't be fooled by that word UNLOCKED, it's still a carrier branded phone.

Any luck using unlock sprint s8 plus on Verizon? I'm on the same boat but can't get it to work on Verizon.
If anyone got it to work, please advise. Thanks

Blacklisted
It won't work tell you change the imei its blacklisted and the only way around that is to change the imei sorry to break it to you.
So I purchased a Note 10+ 5G of a "well known" guy. Originally had the N976VVRU1ASJ8 but updated to the N976VVRS2BLSA when the CSC was changed from VZW to GCF. Long story short. The phone is in mint condition! But its carrier locked by verizon for non payment. I didnt know this until after I purchased it. Yeah I know always check, but it's just one of those situations where you know the guy and didnt realize he was a POS. Long story short. I put my buddies Tmobile card in the phone and it worked surprisingly it also didnt suspend the 5G Network. Where I live Verizon is the only carrier that I get signal with at my house. What's the value on a new phone that's carrier locked from verizon? I'm gonna buy a N975U so I dont have to worry about it. So anybody who wants to buy a N976V 5G phone I just Happen to know someone who has one lol[emoji106]
NOTE 10+ 5G 256g mint!

I picked up and unlocked an SM-N976U on AT&T and dropped in my Verizon SIM. All is well, expect for a few things. I was wondering about flashing the device with a "standard" firmware to remove the AT&T garbage but I cannot seem to find the details on how to do this. Any guidance? Thanks!

Hey the way to get unbranded is go to dialer and type *#272*IMEI NUMBER#
You'll get a screen that let's you choose the csc code. XAA is the generic unbranded. But from what I understand once you do it, it's hard to go back.
Try at your own risk. I think a guy said it messed up his bands or something like that.
@tyrone1... your instruction worked like a charm for me... I had SM-976U AT&T unlocked... I wrote down my IMEI and used *#272*My IMEI# and got a screen where I can make
Sales code and Network Change or Only Network Change.. I chose Sales code & Network Change and next screen I choose TMB.. after that I popped my TMB sim and it restarted my phone.
The phone booted with Tmobile splash.. and just verified that the Video call works (yaay)!!!
Thank you !!!!!!!
I'm looking to replace my factory unlocked S9 with a used S20+. I have an almost 10 year old GUDP (Gradfauthered Unlimited Data Plan) from Verizon. Because my S9 is factory unlocked I can use my phone hotspot without it being blocked. I know that if I buy an factory unlocked S20+ this will work the same way. I wanted to know what might be the tradeoffs (if any) of buying someone's unlocked carrier phone (from AT&T, T Mobile, Boost, etc.) and then just flashed it to the phone I wanted.
Questions:
1. Is the phone hardware in the S20+ identical regardless of if you buy an unlocked phone from Samsung or a carrier phone from any of the carriers?
2. If there is no difference in hardware, is there any reason not to just buy the cheapest S20+ you can find and flash it to the firmware you want? Would any feature, functionality, carrier bands, etc. be lost by using any of these other S20+?
3. I want to be sure my hotspot is not blocked by Verizon firmware. If I flash a Verizon phone to a Factory Unlocked firmware is there any reason the phone would know it was orginally a Verizon phone and block the hotspot from working.
4. Has anyone tried doing this. I'm especially curious to hear from any of you who may have a Verizon GUDP who have used there hotspot after flashing a verizon (or other carriers) phone.
BTW - yes I'm fully aware that with my GUDP I will not be able to use 5G unless I get rid of my plan (which I would never do). I don't care about 5G at this time.

I have a S20 5G unlocked 981U1 bought new from Samsung and the hotspot does not work at all on this phone. So far I cannot get any answers as to why. I can put the sim in a Note 8 and the hotspot works fine. If possible, see if it will work before you buy the phone.
I have been looking for months but never have been able to do it...missing sim card manager option. I am now hoping someone has been able to do it.
I have an S20 5G (SM-G981W) - Snapdragon
Baseband G981WVLS3FVI2
Service provider software SAOMC_SM-G981W_OYV_RWC_12_0006 RWC/RWC/XAC/RWC
Is there a way to flash a different firmware to get the sim card manager? I would love to switch to esim so that I can add a data nano sim as well. I got to imagine that it can be done easily with ODIN but because I do not have an additional phone to use while trying different flashes, I can't just flash until I find the one that works
If anyone has an idea, please let me know...thanks in advance.
Hi,
I have the same issue and i was wondering if have figured it out as I would love to get an esim. I am on telus right now and I want to walk away from the roaming charges by using esim.

From what I can tell is that all the Snapdragon s20 do not have ability even though the processor supports it. I ended up getting an S21 with the Exynos processor which has it. I didn't have the patience to wait for a way to do it.
Good luck
Thanks for the reply and the great info. Did you buy a Canadian S21 or a USA S21 model? May I ask where you go it from ?
In Canada...It was on Kijiji...I just asked if the phone had sim card manager. That was the important thing for me so I could esim and sim at same time. Currently have my Rogers as esim and my us data plan on sim
Thanks again. Who are you using for US data plan. ?
Mint mobile...it was buy 3 months and get 3months back on black Friday.
You can flash u1 firmware onto the w (Canadian) phone for esim support. Note that android 12 is the hight version avail

Here's a comparison between the W and U1. There's not much difference between the two, except the U1 has more 4G bands. Supposedly, A13 is already available for the U1. I've flashed many times on Nexus 5/7 devices, and even when I screwed up, there was no brick. Are the Galaxy S phones just as robust for flashing?
I've had no issues flashing a rogers w to u1 via odin. I suppose always risks because you are flashing bootroms etc.
I don't believe there is an a13 yet for u1, I assume it is coming very soon. Some people thing Samsung just forgot to push the update
Does a13 for w not support esim? What I found with the u carrier versions is was the esim options were not available. I think you need to insert the carrier Sim before the option shows. U1 is there by default
Holy [email protected]%...I wish this was answered before...sim card manager is there on u1...
Now I have 2 phones...
Thanks...if though a little late as I bought a different phone
