USA market VoLTE with 3G deprecation: are Xiaomi phones usable (10T Lite, in particular)? - Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite Questions & Answers

Hi,
I'm in the USA using Tracfone. I recently purchased this phone (end of last year).
I rooted it. I installed the Sakura ROM. I had an understanding that there might be "some assembly required" with a custom ROM & I am mostly happy with it.
But recently I have started getting messages from Tracfone, "Tracfone: Your service is at risk! Your phone will stop working 2/22.".
This appears to be coming from the underlying carrier, AT&T, and relates to the 3G deprecation. VoLTE is supported by the phone and in the ROM but it seems this phone is not in AT&T's whitelist of allowed phones after 3G deprecation. This seems to be related to supported bands (this phone supports a great number of them but perhaps not ones useful to connect to AT&T).
Are there any workarounds for this? I could get a T-Mobile SIM from Tracfone but I am guessing I am going to have exactly the same problem from them?
Can any of these phones even be used after the deprecation of 3G has been done by all the major carriers?
Am I missing something?
I would love to be able to actually use this phone.

Ouch. Didn't think that would happen so fast.
I actually double checked to be sure my phones are white listed by AT&T.
See what other carriers say because I don't think there's a work around for AT&T especially if the bands aren't supported.
Maybe advanced tech support would have a suggestion or fix you could use. Some of the agents will go out of their way to help, some are duds. As always use Google search...

well afaik, you've only got 3 options
1. spoof the imei and make it look like a supported phone. not sure if i can talk about the specifics here and even if i could, it'd be a pita even for me to do it
2. find another carrier who doesnt whitelist phones
3. use voip apps like google voice to bypass the volte problem

Don't think the first option would work because it's the configuration and/or hardware that's the problem not the brand.
AT&T makes big bucks selling cell service so I doubt they turn down your business if your phone was compatible.

I checked the T-Mobile IMEI checker and, if it's accurate, it doesn't look great. I'm not sure what "not blocked" means but it claims it's incompatible.

Not blocked may mean it can be used for data only or it's not blacklisted?
What's it say for the expanded explanations?

well most xiaomi phones dont really work too good over here in the us because of missing bands with the exception of the mi mix series.
this pretty much explains the situation
Will Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite work in USA?
In this page we are going to show you the compatibility of Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite with the mobile networks of USA and with the telephony operators that provide service in USA.
www.kimovil.com
the only 2 carriers that look like it would work fine with are cspire (which i've never heard of) or gci wireless (also never heard of)
that being said, it should *work* on the other carriers, but i have no idea how well

I ordered the T-Mobile SIM from Tracfone. I figured that worst case was that I am down $1.00 & will be left without a working phone (until I have access to an old backup phone in a few weeks that will probably work —Moto G6 Play); vs. by default being left without a working phone in a few days if I did nothing (until I have access to the old backup).
It looks like it was allowed. The only hitch was that transferring my phone number (from using the AT&T SIM to using the T-Mobile SIM) took a bunch of hours. I even have VoLTE enabled (which appeared not to be possible with the AT&T SIM —and I assume is the only way this phone will work after the switch, if at all).
I imagine the coverage may be spotty given the poor coverage in the supported bands but I may be OK with that for now (probably depends on how spotty spotty really is and where). I'm sure it might be one of those YMMV things (and one that could change in the immediate future?).

AT&T compatibility

For those of you using AT&T. Do not update your IMEI at this time and hope that the system doesn't auto update it. LTE is not supported on the OP3. I am currently stuck on 4G due to this problem.
I have opened a ticket to get the OP3 registered. I will date back here.
My ATT service is perfect with LTE.
Update your APN's
Nextgenphone and ATT Phone. The network is blocking LTE access. Your IMEI hasn't updated yet. Mine worked fine for a few hours.
I work in a cor AT&T store. There were features removed when I changed my IMEI. Once AT&T updates their IMEI database it'll be fine.
I've had the phone since noon on Friday and still no issues with AT&T. I have not called to change IMEI.

I am having same problem, my two devices are stuck in HSPA mode. I spent over an hour online chat with AT&T to no resolution. They tried but could not understand the problem. I had the phones activated at corporate store today too. Hopefully this problem gets resolved soon.
Guys don't bother with the att reps. Most of them have no idea what they are doing with an iPhone let alone anything else. The worst thing you can do is call them for help.
I agree with zelendel even though I work for the company. I am sure I'm not the only person who has opened a ticket to the OP3 added. In the mean time if you call customer service and just ask them to have a manager approve adding the nextgenphone apn to your line then it will fix the issue temporarily. I have LTE back for the time being.
How temporarily is the fix? And is there an eta on when att will fix the problem? I will be returning this phone if I can't use LTE on it.
So will this phone be updated and approved to receive LTE in the future by att? This is kind of a major deal if not.

Too late for it to be approved. This is one of the things you learn to deal with when you buy China based devices. They don't get approved by the Fcc which in turn causes issues with LTE and what not.

So because of you I should expect to see a text from AT&T saying they've detected that I'm using a smartphone and have added an expensive data plan? Great.
Pretty sure you just needed to use the right APN.

Pretty sure I know the right APN. What plan are you on that's worth saving...senior talk 200? That's the only plan in the last 10 years that's cheaper than any new plan which all include data. Please don't be a **** because you didn't have a problem. Others will and when they do its nice to help them understand what's wrong.
im on at&t go and it worked out of the box with LTE.
if what the OP said is true, u can get another IMEI that uses a nano sim card and then call att to activate that IMEI with att and then just reinsert the sim into the OP3 without calling, I did not update IMEI either but i do have a little issues with downloading things it switches back and forth quickly between 4+ and LTE but still get good speeds
Just opened my OP3 an hour ago and put my ATT nano sim in.

Yeah my LTE worked fine for at least 5 hours after I changed the IMEI. I was at work on WiFi so I don't know when it quit exactly. Even putting my sim back in a recognized device yielded no data. Called in got the nextgenphone added to my line, LTE came back. The problem with using another IMEI is sooner or later the system will update and you end up with no data.

Changing the IMEI is not only illegal but can also cause other issues with the device it's self.

The IMEI will be updated when they scan the network which they do from time to time.

Verizon LG G7 LM-G710VM, currently on T-Mo, lacking features like VoLTE - My Options?

Short Summary of my issue:
Phone Verizon LG G7 Model LM-G710VM
Currently on T-Mobile Service
My experience with T-Mobile is severely lacking or horrible at times due to the following:
I am lacking features like VoLTE, wireless calling, possibly some LTE Bands that are turned off because of this (Band 12 maybe?), I can't run Short/USSD/MMI Codes to try to turn things on or check for things.
I know some of the issues are due to the VZW setup of the software running. I have considered trying to Flash another version to the phone, like the Int'l version, in hopes that I could start turning on features or things that aren't working currently.
My concerns with that is - 1) is that even a possible combination with my phone model? I know T-Mo branded G7's can't cross-flash. 2) If I flashed the Int'l version, what negatives would I be facing? Would I have access to all the LTE Bands? (Pretty sure some of that stuff is in the Modem, but hoping maybe getting away from VZW software would let me poke around at least) Will that break the OTA Updates? Should that version allow me to enable VoLTE?
What would you do in my situation, short of selling the phone and either buying Int'l or T-Mo version of G7? Can someone prove that there's a solution to this that has already worked for this situation? It's very hard to research this EXACT scenario online - things used to be easier back in the day
THANKS!!!

I too have the Verizon model. I have a Verizon sim and I have wifi calling and texting over wifi as well and that's specifically a Verizon thing. With the LM-G710VM model you can pretty much cross flash any kdz other than T-Mobile that'll brick your phone. I have cross flashed a lot of the kdz out there and have found only one that works and you can make calls and texting and that's the Global US Cellular kdz but no wifi calling or texting. On all of the other kdz's you get data all day but calling and texting don't work because this is due to IMS registering. What we need is root for the Verizon model to change the apns.xml file and buidprop files after cross flashing to get things working. Hope this helps.

Awesome thread. I too am using a Verizon LG G7 Thinq on T-Mobile here in the USA. I also tried flashing the US Cellular KDZ but got a message along the lines that cross-flashing is not supported (I forgot the exact message as this was a while ago). My results based on different network modes are as follows.

7T VoLTE works, no Vowifi / wifi calling on Verizon

I purchased my 7T (model HD1905) online in October of 2019 directly from OnePlus. The phone is absolutely amazing and functions perfectly except it is not able to perform basic WiFi functions such as text or make phone calls. I work in the medical industry as a tech in a hospital laboratory. The laboratory is located in the basement of the hospital where I am unable to receive my carrier's (Verizon) signal. Hence, I am unable to use the aforementioned wifi functionalities and certain apps on the hospital's excellent broadband WiFi (2.4GHz / 5GHz). During this busy & intense time of the COVID-19 epidemic, the ability to effectively use my phone's apps and calling functionality over WiFi is vital and an absolute necessity.
In the past I have used an original Google Pixel (unlocked) and also my daughter's $60 (the cost a couple years ago) Samsung that I bought on eBay to flawlessly make phone calls and perform the functions that the OnePlus 7T is unable to achieve.
My question is:
Is it likely that OnePlus is going to roll out a fix for vowifi / WiFi calling for the OnePlus 7T on Verizon, the largest US wireless carrier? I see that Verizon now carries the OnePlus 8 having this desired wifi functionality and needless to say, I feel cheated. OnePlus is supposed to be synonymous with high tech and deemed as "A flagship killer". Will OnePlus develop a fix for the 7T's WiFi limitations / inabilities or should people that purchased a 7T resort to buying a $50 phone on eBay to fulfill the 7T's shortcomings? Though Samsung is more expensive, it seems overall to be fully functional on the majority of wireless carriers.
I appreciate any thoughts or insights.
Regards,
wantin2mod
I could only get mobile phone calls to work with VZW. No texting, and no VoWIFI. I am trying an AT&T sim for a couple of months to see if I can get service in most of the areas that VZW has worked in my area. I have not proven if VOWIFI in AT&T works yet, as I was not in an area with no service and Wifi yet. To me this phone is a total fail with VZW, but I think it is more their fault than OnePlus.

In a nutshell; The issue is with Verizon not Oneplus. The necessary hardware and software is on the phone, but Verizon hasn't authorized wi-fi calling for the 7 series, claiming security concerns, and it does not appear they will. Verizon allows Wi-Fi calling/SMS for the 8 because they sell a Verizon version of that phone; my understanding is that they don't allow wi-fi calling for non-Verizon branded 8's either.
You can't buy a Verizon branded 7T so Verizon has no incentive to allow the 7T to use that feature on their network. The alternative is to get a VOIP number from Google, Skype, et al and set up a SIP account under calling accounts in the dialer
For Verizon, you need to call them and enable CDMAless provisioning in order to get texting to work. VoWifi.... we are basically up ****s creek without a paddle. This is on Verizon and not a OnePlus issue as the 7t is whitelisted to prevent it from gettting VoWifi and LTE Video calling.
I fought with them for a week and finally was able to get them to trigger VoWifi, but there is something universally blocking this feature on Verizon's network unfortunately. They triggered and I even tried the logkit...no dice.

What about with MetroPCS? I have issues with WiFi calling as well. When WiFi is on it even tells me, "Mobile network is not available. Connect to a wireless network to make a call."

Question Volte on Oneplus 9 Pro. Is it a carrier thing?

Hello,
I am having troubles activating Volte on my OnePlus 9 Pro.
After a chit chat with OnePlus support, they told me that my country carrier needs to support the Volte option for Oneplus.
Apparently they say my carrier doesnt have Oneplus in their list of smartphones that support Volte.
I managed to find a list of smartphones that my carrier has for Volte and it was only made of Samsung and Iphone.
Is this true? Am I incapable of running Volte because my carrier doesnt have OnePlus phones in ther list? OnePlus isnt popular at all in my country.
So, if this true, means even if i force turn on Volte on OP 9 Pro, i still wont get it to work?

Someone tried to force Volte but still no sucess. Apparently Volte for oneplus wasnt supported on their carrier also. So i think thats it... I will try myself once to check though. thank you.
OnePlus is also not on the list of supported devices for my carrier but I still managed to make it work on my 9 Pro following the guide previously mentioned.
Give it a try and you might be surprised of the output.

did your IMS appear as not registered first? Were you using LE2120? because they also said it can also be differences in frequencies for the countries.
LE2120 and IMS was "not registered".
After forcing the display of VoLTE/VoWifi toggles and changing the configuration in PDC to "Volte PTCRB", it started to work on my phone (logo in the status bar and "HD" indicated in call history)
My carrier is Viettel and I live in Vietnam.

I'm with T-Mobile and I have the OnePlus 9 Pro from the OnePlus store it's not T-Mobile specific I went with T-Mobile because they're 5G is better and AT&T didn't get voice over LTE at all. I went on a prepaid plan because there's no taxes involved my wife and I both have unlimited everything with 5G and I think we pay 80 bucks a month. I downloaded the version one OnePlus log kit switched on volte and vo Wi-Fi did the reboot and you can see from the screenshots when I don't have LTE vo Wi-Fi kicks in and when I don't have the other v o l t e is always active and they both work all my calls are in high definition. The carrier did nothing for me it was that simple I'm not rooted and I'm on the stock software... It's great because even if I have a dead zone I can make phone calls and send and receive texts over Wi-Fi no problem it might be worth looking into going to T-Mobile just for that feature especially when it's prepaid plan and you don't have to pay all those taxes! Good luck I'm so glad I got this phone I had just bought the OnePlus 80 and the charging port was getting bad on it so I went all in and got the nine Pro!
It works you need to turn it on in the settings so that you see the icon but to be sure just make s phone call if it changes to H+ or 3G then you don't have VoLTE

VoLTE and WoWIFI works natively on T-Mobile with the US model, T-Mobile model or from Oneplus themselves, so those extra steps were completely unnecessary . It's 100% carrier dependent, you just happened to be on a carrier that supports it.

So i guess, even if i do all that with PDC, i will still not be able to access VOLTE right? Because my carrier only supports samsung and iphone for now...
Assuming PDC is your carrier? Then correct. If they only whitelist Samsung and iPhones for VoLTE, then that's what you need to use.

Same here (in Ukraine) guys. Oneplus 9 Pro doesn't support VoLTE, though previous older phones did!
Can changing of Profile in PDC affect VoLTE? Or only carriers can affect this? How do they Whitelist our model?
PDC not work on Android 12 ?

General VoLTE on GCI in Alaska Fix (Maybe for others as well)

Despite enabling VoLTE using root methods, my phone categorically would not do IMS registration required for VoLTE as evidenced in the testing phone information menu *#*#4636#*#* and the IMS Service Status menu. So, I reached out to my carrier, GCI, who told me to reach out to Google who then told me to reach out to my carrier. (GCI is a carrier in Alaska for those unfamiliar)
So, here's how I got VoLTE on GCI. I called GCI tech support and spoke with a tech, Walter, who was also stumped as to why my device wouldn't perform IMS registration. We settled on that maybe my IMEI number needed to be registered in their network. So, he coordinated with a colleague who manually registered my IMEI in their IMS database and BOOM! I got VoLTE now.
So if you have GCI (or maybe some other carrier) and your phone just won't perform IMS registration, then your phone's IMEI might need to be manually registered in the carrier's IMS database. (Walter with GCI suggested I post this somewhere as a solution)
Why can an off-the-shelf unlocked Apple iPhone bought from Apple or Samsung device bought from wherever work like magic on GCI? Who knows. All I know is I have VoLTE now. Per Walter at GCI, this *should* enable my wifi calling as well, but I won't know until I get home. It is also worth noting that I manually added an IMS specific APN that my 5G enabled iPad Pro showed on its SIM card, but it's unclear if that matters or not. I figured out it had to be the IMEI because when I swapped the SIM cards between my iPad Pro and Pixel 6 Pro, the Pixel still refused to register IMS, so it had to be something device related in connection with GCI's network. (It didn't connect to 5G either when I swapped SIMs.)
I don't know yet if this fixes 5G because I'm in Fairbanks and there is only one 5G GCI tower in the whole city as they're just rolling it out, so until I get off work, I have no way to test.
EDIT: This fixed wifi calling for me as well.
Sadly GCI said no this doesn't work and the post is wrong. Is everything still working for you? Would really enjoy Wifi calling due to location constraints.

It's still working for me. I get both VoLTE and wifi calling still. The tech you talk to on the phone can't whitelist your IMEI. One of their network techs has to do it.
I did have to dig deep into my memory about that call. It was a weirdly helpful call. Too helpful. If I recall, you're not wrong. The tech I spoke to coordinated with a network tech while waiting for the supervisor to approve it. Supervisor took too long, my phone got whitelisted and just before ending the support call the tech was like "Ah, uh, my supervisor says we can't support your phone, but, uh, I guess it works now so have a good day."
Edited to add screenshot of wifi calling and GCI network in top right corner to show I'm not crazy. Again, it was suspiciously too helpful, so I feel like rules were broken somehow.

Hey thank you so much for the response. Yea I feel like they probably didnt realize what they were doing, and it worked, and then they dont want the other 4k Pixel users calling to get the same thing done, so for now blame google for not making it work. Huge annoying part is they advertise bring your own phone, have a support page up for lots of other phones, but the only ones they will make work fully once you put a SIM in is either a Samsung or Apple. I'll keep bugging both sides of the coin here and see if one wont make something happen for us Pixel users.
