VPN hotspot works great for me. You have to turn off hardware acceleration in developer options and use a VPN as well for it to work though.

They're probably talking about the fact Google only allows Chromecast, not Miracast.
To sucessfully get away with full free unlimited tethering, you'll need to be rooted and run a custom kernel that allows TTL spoofing. I found this thread very helpful when setting it for myself. I did pay the $5 for EX Kernel Manager to auto-apply the script on bootup:

Haven't used it in a while, but does anyone know if PdaNet+ still works?

No, it depends on the carrier and the plan that you're on. In his case and my case, we're on the old unlimited data plan on Verizon. You have to pay a separate fee to utilize tethering. The old unlimited data plan doesn't get deprioritized like Verizon's current offerings that include tethering at full speed for X gigs and then it gets throttled.

On Verizon's new 5g plans, you no longer get deprioritized on their highest cost plan... so it's similar to the OG UDP.

Yeah, I saw that, but I failed to mention that I get a discount on my plan through my employer. So it's a nice hefty 30%~ off per month and new plans are not eligible for employer discounts.

Strange, the speeds seem fine to me when I'm tethering from my phone. With ****ty signal and only 4G I'm getting like 40-50 Down and 2-5 Up.

Im guessing our phone uses the regular sized sim? The reason I ask is because Im thinking of switching to straight talk as tmobil just cut off my tethering.

I am running the cm7 kang by eugene 373. Phone is already rooted.
Yesterday I couldnt access any websites. There was no anti-tethering tmobile software included on my device, and each site I tried to access would redirect to a tmobile webpage.
I've been tethering since i got the device with no issues and Im also on a prepaid contract.

Same here....are you using Google chrome by any chance? I know chrome has some fancy stuff that keeps it from accessing other sites. I simply used safari and it worked fine after that. Sucks that I can no longer use chrome but its whatevs really. I actually called T-Mobile about it since I have the 5GB data plan and tethering should be free with that, well it now turns out that tethering is 5 bucks extra on top of the 30.

I would try to play dumb with T-Mobile and ask what is going on.
Remember that services like straight talk say that you get unlimited data but shut it off if you go above 2gb a month sometimes less. If you want some sources I can dig up some from howardforums links to show you.

Well if I cant tether on tmobile, then ill never use up all 5 gigs i pay for. It would make sense for me to have a plan that costs less and gives me less data.
If im stuck with 2gigs thats fine, since the bill will go from 70 to 45 per month... and ill pry only use about 2 gigs if tethering isnt an option.

I've only had my Note3 for 2 weeks, and haven't actually got to use it as much as I'd like yet, but, in the last 2 weeks I've used:
1.58G of 4G: Top 5 usage apps: Google Play, Google Music, Dropsync, Chrome, Speedtest
18.26GB of WiFi (loving my new WiFi AC): Top 5 apps: ES File Explorer, Google Music, "CloudAgent", Google Play, Plex
Pretty sure the "CloudAgent" is Samsung's thing that syncs dropbox photos to the gallery. That was a waste of 2GB, IMO.
So, by my next billing cycle I should've used about 3GB out 5GB 4G, and maybe 40GB of WiFi.
Not too bad, but not too hoggy either.

Yeah if you have WiFi you are set. They do charge a lot for the unlimited data. I have unlimited but I also have a strong wifi connection at home, where I spend a good amount of my day other than being at work. It works out nicely. I just like the unlimited data just in case. Plus the give you the tethering which I also use quite a bit at work. :good:

Kind of hard for me to use 1mb of data when my whole neighborhood is blanketed with GSM (EDGE).
I'm at 13GB for the month. Billing cycle ends tomorrow. I'll probably use less from now on because I was having trouble staying connected to my Dlink 655 WiFi router at home. Changed a couple of settings on the router and all is good now

Hello, I'm currently shopping mobile carriers and checking their coverage and it seems like Sprint might be an option.
According to their coverage map they FINALLY have 4g lte in my area. I'm really considering changing some things up financially to save a little bit more and was wondering if rooting would get me around Sprints tethering. What I'd like to do is cancel my cable internet and just utilize my mobile connection. Thanks

I am rooted on stock firmware there was and app to remove sprints lock on "Wifi Hotspot" I can connect devices to it.
is it possible to use your phone as home internet service, sure. Yon can pay the $30/mn for the hotspot service, which I think it limited to 5GB/mn.
If rooted, you can use some app called GalaxyTools to unlock the native hotspot. Another app is WiFi Tether Router and cost just over $3; it is actively maintained. I personally use this.
If not rooted, there are apps you can use, but require apps to be installed on your clients and also cost a little money.
What you may want to do before jumping ship, check how the service is working in your area. Also, the bandwidth speeds. Just before it's 4G, doesn't mean the speeds are great compared to others. Where I live, I've had LTE for over two years. I only get 5mbs down, and 1mbs up. On my phone, and tether to a laptop or tablet, it works fine. For my needs at work, it would be an outright failure; never mind that 4G connection is a bit inconsistent.
Plus, Sprint is going to be looking for this kind of bandwidth sucking. It is true they give you unlimited data. BUT they also say they will throttle is the network is congested and you're a heavy data user. Sprint says they'll sent a text or something to warm you to give you an opportunity to change your behavior before throttling.
I know I'm a heavy data user, but I don't think I'm in heavy data usage area, so I can't comment on throttling other than it's possible to get. I use usually around 115 to 125GB of data per month on Sprint. My home internet is closer to 400GB per month. I think Sprint might say something if I was using 500GB of data on their service.
I'm not trying to say it won't work for you and your needs. I''m just suggesting to do some more research and get some information to make a better informed decision.

You don't install an .apk file through TWRP. When your phone is up just use a file manager to go to where you saved the apk and click on it. it should give you the option to install it. Just follow the directions and you should have it running in no time.
I agree if you don't know how to install an apk. file then you should try a different route to get your wifi to work. Yes TWRP is not needed as stated above
the reason i mentioned TWRP was because when i downloaded it off of your link it downloaded as a .zip not a .apk there is no reason to get snotty about it.

Yes, even personal account, you have to log into your account at vzw online and "add" advance calling. I am on unlimited data, and still had no issues....I still don't like it though, if I am on a 4G call and briefly walk into a building where I lose 4G, the call drops, smh......I really wish they would just continue to make phones with two antennas until that technology is more advanced.

I didn't have to login an add the feature. I did all 3 of my m9's right on the phone. I wonder why you had to. It should be same for everyone you know .

So I stopped by a VZW store and tried talk and data on two M9s, and both gave me the same result, you CAN talk and data at the same time. I confirmed that advanced calling was off, restarted phones, confirmed advanced calling is still off, and placed some calls.
So I guess it has two antennas? And not just the single tri-band antenna like the Nexus 6, Galaxy S6, and mlst other new phones?
So are you sure your VZW M9 wasn't able to talk and data out of the box while you were on 4G?

Well I have the nexus 6 an without enabling I couldn't use both phone an data. An when I tried to go to play store when I first got m9 on data an during a phone call it wouldn't let me. Was that store device on WiFi? If so then you can call an use data without enabling it if WiFi is turned on.
Wondering if there is a way to get the hotspot feature working on the old version of unlimited data for verizon? I kept this plan specifically to avoid throttling because I do use much more than 21GB a month (around 35-50 on average) and I occasionally use hotspot in congested areas.
Tried foxfi, no dice. Any other suggestions?
I was just about to ask the same thing.
I just came from a pixel and I know if you popped out the SIM card and then quickly turn on the hotspot while putting the sim card back and it would work. Doesn't seem to work with the S8 ?
The SIM technique worked for me!
I used over 200gb last month with probably 70gb of that from tethering. I don't think throttling is really an issue.

Really?? Did you have any issues since the SD card disconnects also?
I'll have to try again later tonight.

Let me know if that works, I'm also following a thread on the s8 forum. It looks like some people were able to get a carrier nutural version which I'd believe would allow us to bypass the hotspot check all together

Just use FoxFi. I paid for that app 4 years ago and have never looked back. It is FLAWLESS.

I thought FoxFi didn't work with VZW and Android 7.0 phones?? Are you using an older version of the app?

Ok, so until this post I had no idea about the Sim Card Technique. It took like 5 tries to get it to work, but once you initate the SIM card you have about 2 seconds for tethering to work.
I got it to work on my S8+

You sir are amazing!
I'll vouch this works as well. Took me 2 tries, but it works.
I pay for the hot-spot just to avoid being kicked off. Didn't Verizon kick people off who passes 100 or 200 GB in a month.
