Yesterday I noticed an issue with my BS3. Every time I try to transfer files to and from the device, it somehow just stops before its completed, and the app (Eg, Google Photos, ShareMe, Google Drive) just closes. If I try to transfer using different USB cables via PC, it seems like the internal storage disconnects and the file transfer stops. Its as if internal storage disappears for a second and then comes back. I sent in a bug report using the bug reporter, however i had to manually restart the upload of some logs it was asking for since it would just stop during the transfer.
I factory reset the device and still get the same problem. I'm on JOYUI 12.5, KLEN2108271OS00MR0.
Is this most likely a hardware problem?

For some reason, MPT suck for me becasue it wont always transfer files between phone and PC.
For example, i select all images i want on my PC and copy them just to see that they aren't all copied. Same goes for APK.
Windows Explorer also can't see some of the thumbnails on camera folder and reports them corrupt but they look and open just fine on phone.
Anyone else has these issues and possible solution?
I don't accept managing media files via adb comments or anything similar.
THanks
does MTP transfer any files at all? or will it only transfer some?
MTP can be finicky sometimes....issues i've had before preventing me from transferring properly include a slightly dirty microUSB port on the phone, where wiggling the connection loses the MTP connection while transferring; drivers not installed correctly; sometimes just rebooting both phone and PC does the trick.
If it fails while transferring a large batch of files, try moving them in small groups, like 20 at a time and see if they all make it then.
PC or MAC? (or linux?)
yeah, it transfers the files but not all of them from one directory for some reason. Sometimes ot didn't trasnfered batches of 2-3 files at the same time which is insane.
Then about an hour ago i reead on some forum that guy recommends backing up files with ADB and deleting problematic directory and than copying files back to it.
I just did that and it works as it supposed to.
Transfers all filess to/from device.
What a strange issue.

I can confirm this issue. I have it from time to time as well and it seems rebooting my phone does the trick. Sometimes, I just cannot send my titaniumbackup folder from my pc to the phone, where I would get an error saying it cannot be sent or it hasn't been sent.
I'd like to know what's causing this. Is mtp not reliable?

MTP on the Galaxy Nexus/ICS is controlled by the MediaStore, and this can cause trouble.
General fix for this should be similar to what I outlined here.
Thanks for the tip man, i formatted my internal storage and recreated all folders again and it works as intended now.
I did this before you posted this solution.
I'll try it if i ever get this issue again (hopefully not)
Whenever I plug my Note 2 into my PC and try to open My Computer it hangs, because it is thinking/doing something.
I thing the reason might be the number of mp3 files I put on the external SD card, because if I unmount it and then plug it in there is no problem. Maybe it is scaning it first?
It is very annoying. Any ideas?
Have you tried to insert the card directly in your computer? Maybe that can give you a hint about the issue.

I have - no problem.
I also used the SGS3 UMS app to activate USB Mass Storage and again no problem.
I am almost certain that problem lies in the stupid MTP mode. Maybe Windows scans the sdcard when the phone is connected, because after around a minute the explorer unfreezes and I can work with it.
I would delete the big folder of mp3s and see what happens.
Like I thought the problem was the big folder full of mp3s. I deleted it and now the phone opens instantly on my PC. I have to investigate further if the cause is a particular mp3 file or maybe the one .flac file I have thrown in there.
Ok, so last night before my wife went to bed she plugged in her phone after it ran out of battery. I was still awake at least a half hour later and noticed the phone boot up. When some time had passed and I noticed the screen was still on, I looked over and noticed that it had booted into the initialization process - like she had just purchased the phone.
So I'm panicking because she has loads of photos on there and I need to save them if possible. The weird part is - and I'm sure this is why this happened - the memory is completely full (I think). Under "Storage" settings it says "Not enough storage space" and under that it shows "Total Space: 10.97GB" and then "Applications: 186GB". So the bar at the top just shows a fraction of green which is applications and nothing else. The rest of the categories it should be showing pop up and disappear every time I re-enter Storage (downloads, pictures, videos, etc) but they are not shown on the top bar.
This phone is NOT rooted. Because it was her phone, I did little to it beyond install a file manager to copy pictures to an external memory card (which rarely worked well.) This file manager is gone and so is every downloaded program.
When I plug the phone into the computer, I have two options: Connect as Camera and Connect as Media Device. When I open explorer it shows a folder "Phone" and says "0 bytes free of 10.8GB." The media device option does the same thing.
I have enabled the USB debugging device option which says that "debugging mode launches when USB is connected" but that changes nothing - I still connect as camera or media device and I still say the same thing.
The only "solutions" I am finding are to download some ****ty spyware invested program to recover files.
At this point, I only want to salvage whatever pictures I can. Nothing else. I am afraid that if I download anything to the phone it is going to start overwriting the "lost" data but maybe not because the phone is still aware it's there. I can't clear up any space either from the phone because the only thing it shows is on it is stock apps. After copying the pictures to a computer I will format it and she can start fresh.
PLEASE give advice on how to simply access the internal storage to copy pictures to my computer. As I've explained I'm kind of at a brick wall, so I need an obvious solution if there is one. Thanks!
Please help. I have tried everything. I can't even download a File Manager because it says "insufficient space." Because it reinitialized, I *only* have the default apps. There are NOTHING I can delete.
So while the phone is full, the OS is in a fresh state with no possibility to download a program to find pictures and transfer to SD card.
Anyone?
If the phone is in fresh state then you should have a gallery application to check to see if you have any photos on the internal memory.
If your photos were on the SD card get a sdcard reader from a store and plug it directly into your pc.

Hello guys, this is my first post so if there's something wrong I apologize.
Well, I installed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...cyanogenmod-12-alpha-1-n7100-t2949644/page785 following the flash instructions. Everything was working fine, till now.
First, when I connect my phone on my computer, it doesn't show every file I have. This started like half an hour ago (I installed the rom yesterday).
If connected as Camera, it only shows internal storage. If connected as media device, it shows internal and sd, but on sd just show 2 folders (out of 10).
In file manager (on cellphone), I can see everything.
I didn't change anything that could cause this. I already tried cleaning data of media storage, rebooting, unmounting and mounting sd, nothing worked.
Second, when I was using stock rom, I used MX player and could see some videos that are on my sd. Now with CM12.1, there are some that I can't. It says HW decoder is not supported, and in SW mode it hasn't audio. Is there some incompatibility known with some video formats?
Another thing is that Google play services keeps stopping, but that doesn't really bothers me
Can somebody tell me something to do?
Thanks
I keep experiencing problems when transferring files to the Pixel 2 XL. The problem first starts with Android File Transfer. Many files transfer fine, but they just stop after a while. "Can't access device storage". No files are over 3 GB, and problem doesn't always happen with the same files. I have to power down both the phone and computer for data transfer to start working again. But sometimes restarting doesn't fix the issue.
I have contacted Google Support many times. They have me go through the usual steps: try a different cable, try a different computer, reboot everything. Safe mode. USB debugging.
I usually have to reset the phone completely and start over. And I discovered that if I do not remove my gmail account before resetting, data transfer will remain broken--it won't even copy data over from my old phone during setup.
But this does not happen with my Pixel XL. The same files, same cables, same computer. Both phones are running the latest version of Android Oreo with all updates.
I haven't had any problems transferring files from my Nexus 6 to my Pixel 2 XL. Entire process (file transfer and app install) lasted a little over three hours. After about 2 hours I needed to do something and disconnected the cable. Five minutes later I reconnected and within seconds the transfer resumed. Used the cable from the Nexus power adapter.
Data initially transfers between phones without problems. The problems start when using Android File Transfer, which Google recommends. But once AFT stops working, data can no longer transfer between devices either. Only a factory reset works after removing my Google account from the phone. If I don't remove the account first, data still will not transfer after factory reset.
Possible Solution - File Names Too Long
I think I might've had a similar problem - I'd try and drop all of my music folders from Windows into the music folder on the Pixel XL. I understand this isn't exactly what you've run into, but it could help you and will definitely help someone else. So, after a while, the transfer would stop and I wouldn't be given any kind of feedback as to why. If I were to try the transfer again, the same files would transfer and it'd stop in the same place. The problem, I realised, was that the filenames of the files that couldn't transfer were too long - as far as I know this has nothing to do with metadata, so you can leave the song names the same, just change the filename.
I hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
