I became accustomed to holding the power button when the phone is off to turn on the flashlight several phones ago through a mod. Has anyone come across a mod that allows that on the P6P? I know holding it now brings up the google assistant, but thats not useful for me.

With "phone is off" you mean the screen is off/dark? Since you can't expect a phone to have a functioning flashlight when it is "off"?
There is a root app called Button Remapper out there that allows you to remap any hardware buttons. I don't know if it's compatible with P6 though and that might cause problems, since, well, the power button has certain hardcoded functions that are quite important.
An easy way to use the flashlight without having to deal with any of the phone, is using the "quick tap*" function. You simply map the function to the flashlight, meaning every time you doubletap the back of the phone, the flashlight will turn on.
*
-> Settings
-> System
-> Gestures
-> Quick Tap
Google doesn't "natively" support Quick tap -> Flashlight, but there are apps out there that can help you. Root might be required.
Tasker should also be an alternative, since you can natively map Quick Tap to any app. You just have to create a profile to activate the flashlight, something along the lines of
Event: Secondary App Opened.
Task: Torch, Set Toggle

Agree always use this setting on custom ROMs. Google really should bake it into stock. Meantime a mod would be good.
I used the squeeze for flashlight on my pixel 4xl with button mapper. Using it also on my 6pro with long press volume down. I didn't see an option to use the power button but it works well. Screen off or on or both is available.
Someone used a tasker profile to get the flashlight working like this. I don't believe root was used. Search the forum it's there
Meh, get a Streamlight Microstream micro rechargeable flashlight.
Tough, keychain small, really bright and long lived.

Shoulda thought of @flar2 Button Mapper. Torch works perfectly on long press volume down with the screen on or off. Even have the Pro version I'd forgot about.
Its not quite what i wanted but its close. It doesnt work super well though... First off, it doesnt work on the lock screen, you have to unlock the device. Since its a double tap, i kinda thing that's for the better. I've had this setup for most of the day, and just tried to use it and it failed completely... I unlocked the device and started double tapping. Faster, slower, harder, softer (like she said), and it wouldnt turn on... About a minute later i sat down and decided to check the settings to see if it turned off somehow, but decided to try it again right after unlocking and it worked... So i'm thinking maybe the settings service or some other background app has its battery set to optimized, so i just modified that to Unrestricted... Not sure how thats going to affect things, but this simple feature is getting quite complicated!
Aside from the problems, here's how i've configured it:
Settings > System > Gestures
Selected the "Open app" option and hit the settings cog next to it. Scrolled down to "Tasker Secondary" and tapped the settings cog next to it and chose "Open App" and hit the back button a bunch of times to get out of the quick tap settings.
Then in Tasker, created a task called "Flashlight Toggle" and had it toggle the "Torch" option.
Then on the profile tab, i did this: + > Event > Tasker > Secondary App Opened. It wasn't really working at first and was giving me errors and messages for something irrelevant but after doing that a few times it finally asked me for a task and i put in the Flashlight Toggle task i created.
That was it... I think im gonna give that button mapper a shot, holding volume down is 100% sufficient!

I've tried the twist gestures many times over the last several years, i just cant get used to it.. It doesnt even work with my smart watch when i rotate my wrist to see the time! I dont like the idea of using it with the flashlight either, i know i'll mess it up and flash my own face every time i go to turn it off haha, thanks for posting all the info! My wife uses twist gestures for some things, i might be able to use that for her!

Try installing the x-button application. I've constantly used the ok button to close apps with no problem.
I'm using black 2.0 and have never had to manually close apps since wm5.

AE Button Plus is what you want. You can map almost all the buttons on outside of your device to do what you want. One of the included options is to "CLOSE ACTIVE APPLICATION"
I've attached a cab, and below are the details on the application from their website
This utility extends functionality of hardware keys on Windows Mobile devices. It allows you to:
intercept almost any standard button: application buttons, WM5 SoftKeys, Volume slider, Action and even Red/Green phone buttons
distinguish up to 4 different keypress events on each button grabbed (single, double, triple and "long" keypresses).
remap each of the keypress events to "virtual" application button or assign them directly to one of the wide set of built-in actions.
As a result you may "convert" volume slider to up/down arrows, assign several essential application buttons to these "SoftKey" buttons and even assign your favorit alternative dialer to red/green phone buttons.
Current list of built-in keypress actions
Run Application
Emulate keypress of Enter (Action), Esc and up/down/left/right keys
Emulate standard application buttons
"Virtual Application Button"
Being specified as keypress action, "Virtual button" appears in standard Start -> Settings -> Buttons setup dialog and may be assigned here.
Volume up/down
Emulate Soft Keys
Close (terminate) active application
Switch next application
Alt+Tab (switch between two last applications)
Task Manager with charge level / memory summary info. Task manager may be operated with directional pad (up/down - choose application, left/action - switch to, right - terminate) or finger/stylus.
You may apply filters to hide annoying applications (e.g. Phone)
Ok/Close
Start Menu
Switch Display Off/On. Once you switch display OFF you may turn it back ON by the same keypress event or simply pressing Power On button.
Switch BlueTooth Off/On
Switch WiFi Off/On
Vibration mode Off/On (WM5 only)
Turn Off PDA
Soft-Reset PDA (Soft Reset)
Screen rotation
Go Online / Drop DialUp connections / Trigger Online
Disable "Power Off device if not used..."
Switch to Today screen
Clipboard operations: Select All / Copy / Cut / Paste
Memory Monitor
Battery Monitor/Uptime Forecast. It will show battery voltage/current/temperature if corresponding sensors are available
Current Date/Time
Pop-up menu with important AEBPlus actions. This feature is available in activated version only
Any built-in action may be initiated by shortcut calling aebplus.exe with corresponding command line parameter
You could go for the free and better working PQzII. AE was a bit temperamental for me. I use it in conjunction with Wisbar Advance 2 to minimise some programs & close others. There is an option to close with OK or see below for mapping the OK button.

Alt F4 under HW button
Hello, my solution is to map small application Alt F4 under HW key... I used for this application HButton, which allows me to map under one button n number of apps (for short push #1 app, longer push #2 app...), so I have under messaging button Messaging + Alt TAB and under IE button Opera Mini + Alt F4. Easy, used only 3 small free apps.

Looks really good.
sure so many apps out there, free and commercial, but quickmenu is one I use, simple and powerful, I think it's the best, give it a try. Install, run it once, and go to Options to checkk to use the OK button.
Well, that was great - AEB worked wonderfully for me. It was exactly what I needed - one button to open and close Bluetooth.
It was a headache specially with the password lock every 15 min, to unlock, open connmgr, enable bluetooth and the same for the reversal. Specially in the outside light where you cannot see the screen very well, typing the password to unlock was a disaster.
Now I only need to press power and press the button fro BT to enable or disable it.
Thanks a lot!
I am using a BT handsfree in my car. I need a quick method to toggle BT on/off mith the minimum of clicks. Ideally, on the home screen.
Any solution is appreciated, also existing apps/tweaks whatsoever.
The option to keep BT all the time on is not acceptable, due to many reasons eg. battery consumtion.
Thanx
Search for vjvolubilis. It's here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=255911
try ammars or panoshas action screens (search for them in this section of the blackstone apps)
work a treat - ammars action screen enables bluetooth with discoverability and panoshas just enables bluetooth
Hi!!
Try Launch Manager...its veeeery goood
you my use the previous tips or just get that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362115, simplest of possibilities....this cab add to your programs an icon which tapped make your bluetooth on and discoverable mode....tap it again and it will switch it of.
AEButton Plus will do what you're after. I have it set to a tripple press of the up volume button (double is WiFi toggle, single: Volume) but you can set it to anything, even a single press.

It's not actually only the toggle, it's a whole software to programmatically change buttons behavior.
Don't know what you mean with two files, all you need is a .cab file. Simply comy it somewhere to device (e.g. onto mictoSD per USB cable) and then start it in Windows Explorer.
During install you will get the settings window, where you can perform settings as I suggested above.

Just what I was after so CABbed it for install/uninstall including shortcut. Can then map it to a button in Settings -- Personal -- Button -- Button 1 (hold)
has this been done, I have tried the gsensor programs and they work ok but not always perfect, for example you want to type a message first you have to wait till the program is loaded then rotate otherwise you have to rotate back and forth until the screen is how you want it. What I would really like is an app where when you press both volume up and volume down the screen goes into landscape(or long hold of end key but i think both volume would be better)
is this available? I couldnt find it anywhere.
Perhaps you could use MortScript to rotate and assign it by "AE Buttons" to longpress VolUp. Also thought about it - but had no time yet.
Espacially cause I need landscape only in my car and wanted to rotete it by "BlueStarter" & Mortscript. But I dont know how to automatically change back to "portrait" if bluetooth device is not detected anymore.
if you have Advance confiq you can assign a button to rotate the screen.
I have been using this as I didnt like any of the auto-rotate programs.

Not too sure bout the advance config program, but this is wat i did for manual screen rotation:
settings --> buttons --> Program Buttons (tab) --> 2. Assign a program: select <Rotate Screen>
Now everytime you press and hold the "Call" key, the screen should rotate...
if your button settings don't have screen rotation as an option just follow these instructions: http://www.fuzemobility.com/enable-long-press-of-phone-key-to-rotate-screen/
Hi guys thanks for the advice, I tried what you have suggested but for some reason my long call press isnt recognized, no matter what action I tell it to take.
I fear I will need to do a hard reset to sort out my phone even though I only just flashed a new rom and put in all my settings.
I've just been trying this out and too cannot assign anything to the send button. No matter what I tell it to do nothing happens!
I'm currently running Dutty 3.7 rom.

i dont have the "screen rotate" option too in my settings.
install advanced config-->start advanced config--> go to "screen"-->enable "show orientation settings" -->end adv config
go to start-->settings-->personal-->buttons--> and now you have the opotion "rotate screen"
after this you can rotate the screen on long press the call button.

alternatively, install the small utility that I created so that I can choose the orientation mode from the button that I've mapped to.

1. Double tap home button to launch the camera in under one second.
1B. Disable the double-tap quick launch in the camera options to get rid of the delay when pressing the home button. It's a neat feature, but makes the home button much more quicker. (Thanks to @B1aze)
2. Use themes to change the look of your phone (limited as of right now; will be more widely available in the coming weeks to developers/themers).
3. Go into your App drawer and long press an icon as if you want to move/delete it. The small circles with the red '-' sign will let you either delete an app (if third-party) or disable it (if built-in).
4. Hold the power key for more than 7 seconds and the device will reboot. Hold VolUp+Home+Power to boot into recovery. Hold VolDown+Home+Power to boot into Download Mode.
5. Whenever you want to take a "selfie", you can simply frame the image first, and then put your finger on the heart rate sensor under the LED light at the back in order to take one.
6. When downloading a large file (30+ MB) and you have LTE AND are near WiFi, activate Download Booster! Settings--->More Connection Settings--->Download Booster. It combines both your WiFi and LTE connections into one for amazing DL speeds. Stupid Sprint took this out :/
7. Notification reminders! Settings--->Accessibility--->Notification reminders.
8. Don't forget to claim your free 100 GB cloud storage with OneDrive!
9. Private mode... You can hide content from prying eyes, including photos, videos, music, web history, and such. To activate it, go to Settings--->Privacy and safety--->Private mode.
10. Do Not Disturb mode. Dare I say... Better than Google's implementation of "priority notification only" mode. You can set a schedule for it, who IS/ISN'T allowed to contact you while it's on, etc.
11. Screen Pinning. Go to Lock Screen and Security--->Other Security Settings--->Pin Windows.
12. Customize your screen grid (4x4, 4x5 or 5x5) by pinching in when on the home screen.

I read somewhere that the phone doesnt have that option unless you go into power saving mode or somerthing like that. This was one of the first things i tried doing at store but couldnt.
Why Samsung removed this option I have no clue, but it was a stupid one.
Keep clicking on the Android version in About Device menu > brings up Lollipop > click on lollipop to change colors a lot of times
while on that screen clicking > click and hold the lollipop > loads an Android "Flappy Bird" game.

That's every phone on Lollipop!
Has anyone figured out to disable extra sensitivity on the phone? I read its enabled by default but there's no way to disable it.
Ok I've figured out something with the fingerprint scanner. If you didn't rename the registered fingers then you may forget which finger is assigned like i did.
Well if you rest any registered fingers over the scanner, it'll light up which registry it is. Helpful is you need to redo the fingerprint.

Not really an S6 trick/tip. But I just figured out that if you tap the build number in google play store, it'll force update to latest version.

That was implemented months ago my friend.
Launch Google Now by holding the home button
Here are two tips that I don't think have been mentioned.
First, battery life will be greatly increased if you enable wi-fi calling under Connections. Once enabled (and activated on your Sprint account, for free), your cellular radio will essentially be turned off and all calls will go over wifi. I have noticed this really helps extend battery life.
Second, if you want to enable grayscale without going into super power saving mode, go to settings -> personal -> accessibility -> direct access and turn both direct access on and grayscale. Once you do this, a triple tap of the home button will toggle grayscale on and off.
Almost at 30, keep em' coming
If you long press on a notification it will change a darker color then click on the white exclamation box and it will take you straight the notification settings for that app. Much easier than going the long way around.
So uhmm I was trying to make Glance Screen to work on unsupported devices (in my case, a Lumia 535)... I got some progress to make the Glance Screen settings menu to show up something and not a blank menu but it just disappears right away after 5 seconds... Here's some screenshots about it...

by default the screenshot above will be blank, unless...
when you set this entry to 1, something will show up but not for long...
It would be nice if someone can give me some registry values related to Glance which can be found on:
Code:
HKLM\Software\OEM\Nokia\Display\Lpm
HKLM\Software\OEM\Nokia\GlanceProvider
HKLM\Software\OEM\Nokia\GlanceApps
HKLM\Software\OEM\Nokia\lpm
HKLM\Software\OEM\Nokia\lpmSDK
or somewhere else... That's the only glance screen related values I found on my mom's Lumia 720 running WP8.1/Lumia Denim
You can download Glance Screen's APPX here: http://www.7mb.nl/appx/glancescreen.appx
Just sideload it with device portal... Go to Settings > Extras after sideload and you should see Glance Screen there...

doesnt work mate. the devices hardware just doenst support glance, ms doesnt cripple devices on purpose (except the glance light stuff on 550 and 650, but that has reasons too)

I know the screen itself doesn't support display memory (which is required for Glance Screen to work), but at least we can force it to work... The only drawback by doing so is battery life, I guess? Or nada? We still have some hopes to enable this feature thou by software thou... XD

Really?! And what are the hardware requirements for Glance Screen?
Display memory

display requires display memory... Regular LCD doesn't work, even AMOLED doesn't simply work considering how AMOLED works compared to LCD...
Long story short, supported devices will have an LCD or AMOLED with Display Memory to make glance screen to work...
I enabled dt2w feature on my 630. There is no support normally. Glance screen? Why not
two different things, and sorry no way to get glance working. there would be a possibility to do it like recent android apps/hacks if the system would be open like android, but that wouldnt be glance. instead it would be always active display which sucks you battery harder than *insertsexistjokehere*

Was there any progres regarding glance screen? I just bought Lumia 930, and I was so disappointed, when I have figured out that it doesn't support Glance screen. I was sure that a phone in this class would support this :S.
What about enabling a onscreen navigation bar on Lumia 930. I really miss double tap on navigation bar to turn of screen.

It seems really nice that you didn't buy a L950 or XL one .
then you lose Double Tap , Working with Gloves , Flip to Silence and all other Lumia specific features
When we bought L950 we though a flagship named device (it only named a flagship) support the features that a f***** L520 , and 620 support them .also we know how to enable DT2W using registry but L950 can't write those reg values .

640 doesn't support working with gloves (Only it doesn't have it's option) maybe it supports with registry edits .
you can upgrade to a L920 :| :| to have all features . :|

Well, on 630 we don't have double tap 2 wake and improved touch default. With registry, it is possible to enable them dt2w works but improved touch doesn't.
You can add these keys to try:
I'm on 8.1 currently but they work on W10 also.

I wish there was a way to enable something like double tap on one of the capacity key to turn off screen, like there is double tap on navigation bar...

There is a function to enable the Start button to wake the phone:
OEMs can configure the Start button to wake up the phone from the sleep state (also sometimes called the idle state). This can be configured on phones with one of the following hardware configurations:
The phone has a hardware Start button.
The phone uses capacitive buttons, and the buttons share the same touch controller as the display panel but use separate sense lines, or the buttons have a dedicated touch controller.

It won't work on phones with Touch start button as far as I know . It's for phones like ATIV S that have a hardware non-touch button .
Is there any registry settings to enable charging status (batery icon) on glance screen in Lumia 640? On 820 displayed, but on 640 only time, date and weather status...
Just install some BATTERY apps from Store.
