Question HD Netflix - Xiaomi Mi Pad 5

Hello everyone,
I'm in the market for a Xiaomi Pad 5. I can't find a global version of this device online that can ship to the US, so I'm buying the Chinese model. I have a few questions about this device's Netflix capability:
1. In the Chinese ROM with Google Play installed, is it possible to play 1080p Netflix? Better yet, HDR Netflix?
2. Is it possible to play 1080p or HDR Netflix if I flash the Global ROM to the Chinese model?
Thank you.

1. No, it will play in SD. HDR/Dolby Vision are not supported on the CN model with Netflix.
2. No, you will lose L1 Widevine unless you mask this with Magisk.

Why they advertise this tablet that can play Netflix in HD? Such false advertising. No fix or response, just terrible service. I'm stuck with a tablet which crashes on Netflix from L1 to L3.

Any steps on how you got this to work and does Netflix crash?

I have the chinese model with Widevine L1, HD. I'm on global 12.5 after unblocking the bootloader.
Netflix not available in google play, but can download it from apkmirror, then check widevine in netflix. If it's L3, clear data and re-login. You will have L1. Like me...

Read the original posters comments and you'll see the line "I can't find a global version of this device online that can ship to the US, so I'm buying the Chinese model."
They're NOT on Global, they're on Chinese firmware and they will have the issues above.

Netflix FHD for K20 Pro

Hey,
as one of very sad users of K20 Pro (cause of L3 widevine ofc ) I've finally found the fix for Netflix on K20 Pro thanks to older post by ingbrzy here: h..ttps://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/widevine-l1-netflix-15001-error.49716/post-496616
He posted a Netflix patched apk, which surprisingly works, even with L3. Like original creator mentioned "it works with phones which have adequate drm libraries".
This just proofs that there is a way to bring L1 to K20 Pro, unfortunately for now it's still L3 (9.9.3).
Apk is a bit old, and layout of Netflix is fc*d up, but FHD works like charm (tested on netflix's pattern video).

Interesting find. There has been a post on xiaomi.eu regarding installing a module to get L1 on weekly builds. Doesn't seem to work though, and there are no updates. It definitely seems possible though.
I am on xiaimi.eu 9.9.3 & I have L1

Do we have it for the Indian version?
Can someone confirm that K20 Pro CN variant has L1 widevine on Xiaomi EU 9.9.6 ?
Thanks and really appreciate !

Yes, Indian version does have L1, so there won't be any problem to get it in custom rom.

My man, like I just wrote that it ain't workin' for CN variants, why do ya ask again bruh. I got info from xiaomi.eu user, that with MIUI 11 update there should be l1 fix pushed too, for k20 pro C H I N E S E variant.
Just download it from Aptoide....
With 9.9.6
I’m on China variant with global stable version 10.3.2 and Netflix V6.26.1
Don’t have Widewine l1 also

Raphaelin comes with L1
So stupid that the Chinese version has L3, it's not even a hardware limitation either, I really hope that xiaomi update this so that it gets L1, what the point of having a great screen when your limited to 480p quality streaming

Well u can stop hopin' right away m8. Xiaomi is not goin' to do anything in that matter, because google is banned in China.
The only way we can get L1 is when independent devs on custom rom will enable it, like I said there were rumors that it should be added in tomorrow's xiaomi eu update, but nothin' confirmed.
Cheers.
Well, unfortunately like I thought they did not fix shiet, moreover they removed certificate from fingerprint payments so they gave up on it.
I lost hopes for L1 so idc, will use this patched apk.
Doesn't seems to work for me, MIUI Glogal 10.3.2. + i got an error 0013 after a few seconds :/ maybe Netflix patched it ?

Netflix version is not compatible with this device

So I'm trying to use Netflix on my Note 8 and when I search for it on Play Store, the app doesn't show up. Also, when I sideload the apk it won't start
Hi, you need to root using magisk 20.3 and get the safetynet v3 patch and it solves the issue for now

might be because you did something with your device and lost widevine L1 certificate. Your current widevine might be L2 or L3.
Same issue for me
My device has widevine L1 certificate but I can't install Netflix
How to solve this...
I am on India stable 11.0.2.0 rom version...

Look at About to see device version and Model and take a cropped screenshot of that, if it doesnt recognise your Mi 10T Pro you can change fingerprint if you are rooted and that may solve it.

When i used it with unlocked bootloader, netflix isn't available on play store, so I had to download manually, and there was no HD and no HDR. With magisk patches, though, it worked for good 10 minutes before getting borked again. In the end i returned to stock locked to get HD and HDR working again...

With my phone HD works with bootlocker unlocked running Lineage ROM and Rooted, only thing I have done is Magisk Prop fingerprint change.

Question Lost Google Play Protect Status since flashing from CN to Global

hey guys,
since i successfully flashed my Mi Pad 5 from CN to Global Rom a new problem occured.
I lost the google play protect status and cant install apps like netflix via the playstore. manual way with apk download works fine.
is there any possibility to get the google play protect status again?
tried different methods from google instructions but they didnt work.
my bootloader is still unlocked - is this the problem? its not rooted
thx
Hi,
I had the same problem and I learned that it's a problem you have to live with if you wanna use the global ROM.
Google Play certification and Netflix DRM require the bootloader to be locked BUT if you the bootloader is locked, the global ROM won't boot on a China device.
BE CAREFUL! If you unlink your Mi account and lock the bootloader while using the global ROM, you won't be able to unlock the bootloader easily, essentially bricking the device.
In my case, I went back to the China ROM since I bought the tablet mainly to watch Netflix.
It's true some features are missing on the Chinese ROM (like Google Assistant) and I still have some Chinese text in "Search" but Netflix works perfectly and I use my phone as my daily driver so I don't really need the missing features on Xiaomi Pad 5.
My suggestion is to flash back to China ROM and stay with it. Make sure you still have your Mi account linked to the device to avoid any bricking.

i'm considering to buy the mipad from aliexpress. it's the chinese device with either chinese or global rom. i don't know which one to chose. i don't mind that the firmware will be in english, but i use hebrew in the apps. can you share regarding the differences between the two roms?

Are you sure? So its safe to buy the Chinese device with global rom and just update it and itll get google certified? Seems too good to be true. The open bootloader isnt a problem?
I cant tell you what decision to make, only what worked for me. Open bootloader is not a problem.

Thank you. I really dont understand anything in this regard. Is there any chance that your device doesnt have the firmware found on a Chinese device with global rom from aliexpress? (so your experience might not be relevant here)

Question Netflix on CN version mi pad 5

hi all newbie here i just got a Mi pad 5 from aliexpress chinese version but with global rom installed
Netflix dont work - how do i get this operatng - i uninstalled netflix and now the app doesnt appear on google play..
any help appreciated.
I have the EU version, bought in 2022, and Netflix doesn't work either.
And on the Mi 10T Pro it doesn't work either, nor can I install the APP because it doesn't appear on Google Play.
I bought Pad 5 from Amazon Spain (Amazon was the seller), and no issues with Netflix not showing up in Play Store or L1 certification.
I know no help to the problem but just wanted to chime in.
RKXEUXM 12.5.8.0
My Pad 5 has ROM 12.5.80(RJGEUXM)
I wonder was it bought from a seller that flashed a Global Rom (EU) on it, Homero2, compared to an "official" seller like Amazon?
Not saying that is the issue, but more wondering if it might be.

I bought it through Aliexpress Plaza.
I am downloading the ROM that yours has, once flashed I comment
Edit:
I have flashed with the RKXEUXM 12.5.8.0 ROM, and now Netflix works.
Thanks for the reference Atheosun
Edit 2:
Error, once identified, it asks me to update, and Google Play says that the APP is no longer compatible with my system
Edit 3:
I have already discovered the problem, having the bootloader open Netflix does not work, I have closed the bootloader and problem solved
Thank you for replying Homero2.
Glad you got it working.
So i wonder was it the bootloader being unlocked was the root cause and not the flashing of the EEA Rom?, or maybe both?
Just to help anyone who searches and finds this thread.
L1 certification working OK after flashing the EEA rom?
I have a bootloader unlocked and rooted Chinese Pad 5 running global V12.5.11.0.RKXMIXM.
I have both Widevine L1 and Netflix L1/HDR.
