I have a OnePlus 7t 128gb. One day the phone suddenly stopped working and when I took it to OnePlus store, the service person told that the mother board is damaged and needs to be replaced, costing as much as a new phone. Then I took the phone to a local shop, where the person replaced an IC on the motherboard, the phone started as a new phone. However, all the data is lost. Now I want to retrieve the data as it's really very important. But when i tried dr fone, easeus etc, the softwares asking for root access. When i researched online, rooting needs unlocking bootloader, which wipes the data. I experimented rooting my other OnePlus 7t phone after taking a backup, and tried dr fone, easeus etc on the rooted phone. No data was restored. In this situation how can I retrieve data? The data is so important to me as it has pictures of my father, whom we lost recently. Please let me know any solution

Thanks for the reply. So I guess the data is lost.

Hello everyone
So after hours and hours of searching on the net, I decided to make a thread here in case someone had a similar experience at some point (yes I used the search function!!).
TL;DR version below.
Long story short:
I'm from Mexico, smartphones are very expensive over here if bought through carriers, a few weeks ago decided to buy an unlocked phone from a site similar to eBay; phone arrived (Galaxy Nexus obviously) and all seemed ok. Used my current carrier's SIM and managed to make phone calls and send/recieve SMS. Used Wi Fi to update the phone and install apps, yet I never got 3G connection. After days of messing around with the phone, realize I have no 3G or EDGE signal ever, started to search around the web, took it to my carriers help center, tried many solutions but nothing.
Decided to give the whole flashing/unlocking/rooting a go see if it fixes the radio band or whatever is broken with the device this morning, went the "safest" route and downloaded Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.1 because I saw some tutorial on how to backup your stuff without much hassle. I did all what NRT asked to get the device running with their booting techniques successfully. First thing I ever did was backup my stuff, did 2 separate files, one regular back up and one with APPS + DATA. It never occurred to me to make an actual manual backup of my stuff in the SD Card, like photos, videos, etc. (stuff I transfered from my old phone), and now I see how this is a mistake.
After messing around with the flashing of different stock/radio versions and re-locking and unlocking the phone, the 3G signal continues to be non existent so I have come to the conclussion that the phone is faulty or something, no big deal I can contact the seller and hope for a replacement.
My real problem is that now, everytime I restore my backup with all my APPs and Data, everything is corrupted. The process itself is successful, but when I check my pictures and videos, everything is black. It won't let me copy or move any files via USB or even play/use them, yet they are still there. I'm using the option "Restore backup android file".
TL;DR
- I backed up all my APPs and DATA using Nexus Root Toolkit v1.6.1
- I can restore all that fine, process is successful
- Upon checking the files, everything's there but not working. Can't copy to PC or anything.
I have tried looking for ways to extract the stuff from the .ab file, but I can't find anything.
Please help
Due to error on my part I believed my phone to be lost or stolen. To safeguard my self I used android device manager to remote wipe my phone. I did find my phone and of course it wiped the phone when I turned it back on. At the time I was running a recent Pac-Man rom and since restoring I'm unable to connect to my network. I've used odin to flash a stock rom with root access but no matter what I've wiped or reset I am simply stuck with no cell service. Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time
Have you reported the phone as lost/stolen to T-Mobile? (Has someone else? No offense, but I'm covering my bases should your story be full of it.)
PAC-man ROMs normally don't contain any modems and attempting to flash an incorrect modem through Odin fails before any real harm is done.
This eliminates most possibilities of you having messed up the NV items or IMEI; and the Google Android Device Manager doesn't go further than user data to the best of my knowledge.
I actually left it at work and forgot where I left it. Yes I did report it lost or stolen but also had them un-suspend my line. I also remember possibly switching my external memory with my internal memory and when the device manager wiped my phone it wiped both storage's. Thank you for responding. Any leads on where to start to restore service to my phone?
Sounds like they black listed the imei which renders the phone useless. I would call them again to all them if the black list has been lifted.
Also yes call them and ask. If they blocked the phone as stolen then you'll probably need a new sim or the likes.
Thats what customer service is for, to answer your questions. "I reported my phone stolen, but then I found it, now it doesnt work."
Hopefully its as simple as that.

Call Project Fi. Talk to them. They'll probably send a replacement (no waiting for repair). You can always talk to them and then after hearing what they say decide no.

Wow. I spend so much time on Reddit ignoring these threads until today.
Allow me to set the scene, I'm a student who loves to tinker and modify, and the idea of unlocking my bootloader, rooting, and running custom ROMs on my device seemed fascinating at first. Becoming an avid user of this after fashing my device countless times and performing backups, I began to find a system thatworked for my device and was stable. Having not flashed anything for months on my phone, I had no reason to take a backup of my phone. Until today.
Realizing I had too many garbage apps on my phone, too much RAM being used, and my SOT being garbage, I decided on deleting some of the 222 apps I keep for fun on my phone. With that, I used my phone's built in free space client which cleared unused apps and saved photos. However, it also included my downloads folder where I consciously chose my downloaded ROM and vendor images to save space (Remember, my build was stable at the time and I wanted space to do an eventual nandroid backup). After deleting those flashable files I continued about my day as usual. However, until the end of the day I realized my phone was logged out of my school's wifi, so I logged back in. My phone then began to lag, and a combination of the phone and me using the powerbutton allowed it to reboot. Then it began to bootloop. Normally as a flasher bootloops are easy to get rid of, or may ensue for minutes after flashing a file, however this was consistent and I had no ROM to flash over it, muchless boot to TWRP to do it. I couldn't boot to anything but the system's own recovery mode. I gave the phone some time alone and tried to research how to fix the problem without opening the phone up and soldering. When I attempted again to boot the phone I realized I got boot into TWRP. However, that was shortlived as, when I tried to make a backup the phone froze and rebooted. Going home with my head in my hands, I later tried booting an hour and a half later making my whole boot animation until the very end when the name is shown and the lock screen should load, that's when it began to loop again. I spoke to my father who bought the phone through Project Fi, who recommended me to talk to support. However I just realized: A) If I send it, I lose my data or have it tampered with in a repair. B) If they attempt to boot it, they will see its void of warranty due to the bootloader unlock and rooting and might not honor my warranty (although people have done it after warranty, NOT BECAUSE IT WAS DEVOID BY UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER/ROOTING). C) I bought it on sale for like $250 for 32 GB so money I get back won't cover a Pixel or another phone I can tinker with again with AOSP roms (and I'm not trying to wait two years for Android O, the only other phone I would consider is a OnePlus 5 which launches in the summer and would be around $450).
What would you guys suggest I do?
1. DIY solder and fix
2. Continue tampering to find way to copy off data (I need suggestions)
3. Send it back completely wiped or in way it is to fix
4. Have it replaced with money (and then what phone would I buy?)
And finally do I go to Google Store, Project Fi, or LG to have this issue resolved while ommitting the fact it has been modified?
P.S.: While writing this, this actually booted up for 5 minutes and worked until it crashed and entered the loop again.

If you can get into recovery again, do a factory reset and see if it'll boot. If so, take the opportunity to back up your files then flash the factory images to go back to stock so you can get a replacement. Good luck
Hi everyone,
So a few days ago, my girlfriend's G4 somehow managed to factory reset itself. We have no idea how this happened, she just checked in her pocket and the phone somehow managed to wipe both the internal memory and the SD card almost simultaneously. I'm trying whatever I can to retrieve any data through any program available, but naturally rooting is a prerequisite. I've seen some of the rooting threads here and roughly understand the process, but does anyone know if at this time the most current update (to my knowledge) 2AA can be downgraded? (Seeing as how all future updates seem to be root proof from what I've read)

Can't answer on downgrading since it's so new software wise.
A factory reset won't wipe the SD card unless a specific box is checked. Only bit of data recovery that can really be done is on the SD card with a computer. But data that was on the phones storage most likely cannot be recovered with root or software.

So I've heard. I scanned the SD and nothing came up, but I've seen some success stories regarding recovering from the internal memory, so at this point I'm just putting in a last ditch effort to scrounge the phone for anything that may have survived. It's not like there's anything to lose, it's empty and almost a year old.

Did you try using Recuva? If there was data stored on that SD card data recovery software will at least pick something up. You must use a data recovery software of some sort to get any data off of it.
I never really see any success stories with internal data recovery except those who take them to phone repair centers which they do the recovery from the actual flash storage chip.
Yeah it doesn't hurt to try though. But unsure on the downgrading with software that new.

The first thing when it comes to recover your wiped data is using the DLM backup method. It will work for any LG device unlocked or not rooted or not. The best is: it makes a raw dump and with this raw dump you can work to recover files instead of doing this on your phone.
Keep in mind that ANY usage of your phone deletes some more data without any way to recover! So stop using the phone immediately and use the DLM backup first.

A guy here was able to recover many files (photos mainly) with it!

I bought the international edition of the Note 10 Plus so I could root it.
**No warranty coverage due to it being an international version and not a US warranty. Trust me. I spoke with Samsung US and in the origin country of the S/N.
Long story short I had reason to believe I had a backup of EVERYTHING in the TWRP folder on my SD card. As it turns out I had a backup of nothing.
I was struggling with getting current firmware rooted & at some point, apparently, wiped everything. Low and behold, when I went to restore EFS I found that all the files in TWRP were basically 0kb. Something to do with trying to give TWRP data access using an outdated flashable zip. So, apparently, TWRP just made empty backups, instead.
My question really boils down to this: am I screwed?
I spent an emotional 48 hours trying to find something that doesn't put me out more than 30 bucks. I ordered the phone right before I lost work and I have no way of returning it. Not to mention, I have no other means of communication other than a friends laptop or the library (not close). I spent far more than I should have on the thing because I intended for it to last for 3 years or more & I'm an introvert (the phone being 85% of my social life). I'm not even 2 weeks into owning it and the sense that I'm getting is that I blew 6 months worth of disposable income on what is now a paperweight.
PLEASE ADVISE
P.S. I'd happily pay 20-30 USD to restore my EFS partition to it's factory original condition.
Firstly try flashing the last known stock firmware that was working on your device with the help of ODIN. In many cases this has restored the EFS partition back.
Else you can try this
