How can I bypass wifi 5 GHz restrictions so that I can use 5 GHz Hotspot on RN8P?
I've tried several custom android 11 & 12 ROMs but they all restrict me to 2.4 GHz band.
I have tried Xposed modules that say they can do this but they do not work.
Anyone???
At least give me a helping hand.
nothing, MIUI teams policy...
if they can't fix it, remove it on the next update...
last update even removed the auto on/off wifi based on location...
so I fed up with it & decided to flash Pixel Experience + coconut Kernel + thermal conf mod, couldn't be happier....

Materials:
I have Shadow Kernel v0.5 patched to my clean install of CM9 (wiped data/cache/dalvik); overclocked to 1200Mhz using the built-in CM9 performance settings with InteractiveX governor.
Issue:
Every time I try to enable the built-in CM9 wifi hotspot, it seems to just automatically deactivate.
Procedure:
While having wifi on and successfully connected to the internet via my home router/work router, I tap the check-mark to activate the hot-spot, it displays that it is attempting to activate wifi (even though it is already on) and then displays the small icon indicating that wifi hotspot is active; after a few hundred milliseconds it proceeds to display that it is deactivating wifi and we are back at square one (but now the wifi is off).
Results:
This issue is repeatable. I can duplicate this problem consistently even after doing reboots. I have also tried to activate the hotspot with the wifi preemptively off or combined with 4G on/off and it seems to hang and occasionally crash to an automatic reboot when attempting to activate wifi when hotspot is toggled on.
Question:
Is anyone else having similar issues? Or is it simply my phone acting retarded?
Edit:
- I have tried down-clocking the CPU from 1200Mhz to 1100Mhz and it seems to be spotty with reliability regarding staying an active hot-spot.
- I have tried down-clocking the CPU from 1100Mhz to stock 1000Mhz and the hotspot is still unreliable.
- I have kept the clock-rate at stock 1000Mhz and switched the governor from InteractiveX to stock Conservative, the hotspot stays on, but it fails to assign IP addresses to anything. :'(
1. Don't flash a custom kernel. To me, OC is a joke. It may speed up the device, but it just drains battery and the phone is already fast enough. They bring up issues that can easily be avoided.
2. Wifi will never work as a hotspot. 4G will work eventually, however the whole idea of tethering is using your signal to create what is basically just wifi for other people, or your computer. Why would you or anyone else need a hotspot if wifi is already available? That's just redundant.
3. If you use 4G frequently, there is an app on the Android Market (or should I say Play Store? lol) that will allow you to create a wireless hotspot based on your 4G connection, however it is not yet built in to the system.
Hope this helps.
Hello Acer, thanks for the reply!

Noted. I will stay at stock clock-rate then, but that custom kernel offers some improvements that I feel are important.

I believe I have caused a misunderstanding, I wish to utilize my phone as a wifi hotspot to access my phones 3G/4G Wimax. I have done this successfully with stock Samsung roms. My goal is to cancel my Comcast cable internet because they are raping me without a condom right now.

CM9 allows you to do this without an app.

You were very helpful! :-D
I too had trouble initializing the hotspot built in to CM9. It would activate then deactivate. I left it on, rebooted, then went to try again, it activated, deactivated then reactivated and stayed on. Then it worked fine after that.

You are supposed to be connected to data, not wifi, since that's what you're trying to tether other devices to. When you press the Portable Wifi hotspot button, it says "turning on wifi...", think of that as saying "turning on wifi hotspot", not wifi as in your router.
Turn OFF wifi, turn ON 4g/3g, make sure it's connected to data, then turn on portable hotspot. However, you did mention that you've tried several combinations. I have the same setup as you and this never fails for me. I think I got a reboot once awhile ago but that's it.
the OC is not the problem, I'm also at 1200mhz on shadow.
I am having this exact same problem after flashing cm9 beta 0
The issue I'm having is that when I am running an AOSP based ROM on my Note 2 I am unable to connect to the 5 Ghz band signal on a dual band router. They show up as available networks and when you select one I am able to enter the password but I can't connect to the 5 Ghz network, no issues with the 2.4 Ghz band. On a Touchwiz based ROM I don't have this issue I can connect to either 5 Ghz or 2.4 Ghz. Maybe this is a known issue but I can't seem to find anything about. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi all,
I'm currently running latest CM10.2.0, and when I connect to any WiFi network, the initial negotiation speed is very fast.
From the moment I push the WiFi button, to the moment the WiFi is "connected", the duration goes from 2s to 4-5s max.
This duration includes internal WiFI activation and DHCP lease negotiation.
With all KK based ROMs I've tested (CM11, Carbon, LS, etc ...), or with F4K kernel (KK or JB, I've tested JB version on CM10), I'm having terrible negatiation times, generally next to 30s, but sometimes as high as 60s.
Having to wait up to 60s before being able to perform a mail check or a calendar sync that takes only 3s is very annoying.
What can I do to obtain a descent activation speed with KK or F4K JB ?
Is there a build.prop tweak or an init.d script that can speed the thing up ?
Tks
10.2.0 is not the latest!
There is already 10.2.1

Sorry, my S4m runs CM10.2.1 indeed.
WiFi negotiation speeds has always been the same under all CM10 flavors (i.e. very fast), and always been the same under all CM11 flavors (i.e. very slow).
I'm on Carbon KK and negotiating time is close to zero. I actually don't even see it switch on. For instance, I use Llama and have it set up that in the night hours WiFi is turned off, unless the screen is turned on. I never had to wait at all during such an occurence until I had the internet connection.

Tks for your reply Jake.
Thanks to your testimony, I guess my WiFi issue is due to some parameters that are specific to networks I'm connecting to.
All my tests are done on 2 different WiFi HotSpots, with different hardware, but both :
- Are running OpenWRT
- Have WPA2 PSK (CCMP) encryption
I will do some tests to see if encryption type or hotspot software has an influence on negotiation speed.

The network I connect to most of the time has WPA2 PSK encryption. No clue about the OpenWRT
Since switching to a 5.0 stock based ROM (Cloudy or rooted stock), I've been having an issue with LAN only wifi networks. Basically, it will get immediately disabled by the OS if the attached wifi network does not have an internet connection. I remember there being a setting in 4.4 where you could disable this feature, but I don't see it as an option on 5.0. From my searching, it appears that this was resolved again in 5.1. Is there any way to disable that feature otherwise? I like 5.0 otherwise, and don't want to deal with the camera quality of AOSP. I looked for a relevant xposed module, but didn't have any luck.
Hey guys,
I flashed Resurrection Remix rom 7.1.2 recently. Everything worked smoothly and great. However, I found that there was no 5 GHz band to select in Hotspots settings. I remembered the 5GHz was available in stock rom. How can I fix it? Thanks.
That does definitely not belong here, you should ask your ROMs Dev, maybe he forgot to add this. I don't think you can do anything about that
