I just received my pixel that I ordered from Google I set it up with no sim in it then I put my Verizon sim in it after it was done setting up and updating. I held down the volume down and power and it says it's lock at the bottom of the list. I thought if I ordered it right from Google it would have an unlocked bootloader. Or is what I am seeing referring to something else being locked.
Did my Verizon sim card lock it?

Its comes from Google locked. Your sim card has nothing to do with it. You can unlock it in fastboot.

I think hes under the impression that a locked bootloader is the same as being carrier locked. @chrisusa96, If I'm assuming correctly, You're under the impression that the lock image means you're phone is now locked down to Verizon? If that's the case, you're fine, it does come from Google truly unlocked for any carrier. That lock icon is for the bootloader which is a very different thing all together. Bootloader unlock and Carrier unlock are not in any way related.
But then again, If my assumption is not right, disregard me entirely.
I was referring to the bootloader. I was under the impression that it was unlocked out of the box from Google.
I see the difference between the two now. My last question is if I unlock the Google version will I get a constant warning Everytime I reboot the phone that it is unlocked?
Fastboot unlock with adb
First toggle OEM unlock
Then run unlock command
If unsure how to use adb
Just install minimal adb and fastboot.
That will get you started

Yes
Just to be clear, you unlock the bootloader using fastboot. Not ADB

So basically, I have a Verizon note 4 with permanent root. I bought it second hand and it came with permanent root, but the problem is that I have no idea if it has an unlocked bootloader or not . It doesn't have any custom recovery on it aswell. But then it gets me to question how the heck did it get a Permanent ROOT without getting an unlocked bootloader. Oh and i also don't get shown a verizon logo when i reboot my device, only a samsung logo. And i live in South Asia btw, and can run a local
sim with 3g on it no problem as well....
Also worth mentioning is that on "About Device" in "Settings", it says SM-910F...but when i go to fastboot mode, it says SM-910V, and when i connect it to computer, it also says verizon model. Anyways, the real problem is finding out if my phone has bootloader or not. (READ BELOW ASWELL)
Any suggestions plez
PS: I tried to put a code in the dialer, something like *#*#7432XXXX*#*# (tried a lot of diff. codes in dialers aswell). PLUS, I also tried finding if i had an unlocked bootloader from adb and fast boot where u put this command in; "fastboot oem device-info" something like that, but I cant get "fastboot devices" to work (it doesn't give any result even with proper usb drivers and while in fastboot menu from phone) :crying: plez halp me....

Put it into download mode and see if it says, mode: Developer. If it does your bootloader is unlocked

Well it doesn't say so ... sadly.
Anyways, I'm still wondering how the heck did someone install permanent root without unlocking this Verizon??? Like you have to do temporary root and then you unlock bootloader, and then you do perm root... how does one bypass that?
I have not been able to find this answer any where. A little while back I got my replacement Google Pixel XL through Asurion on my Verizon warranty due to burn in. When I received the phone I noticed the Verizon account webpage showed it as a blank picture instead of the picture of the Pixel like it should. I am wanting to unlock my bootloader, of course I am on 7.1.1, but in developer options the oem unlock button is able to be switched on instead of being greyed out, which makes me curious if this is a Google Play version and I still have some luck on my side. I have no idea where to check if this is indeed the Google Play version of the phone though. Where can I check? From all the information I have seen, if you have a Verizon version of the phone the oem unlock button is permanently greyed out, this one is not. I don't really want to run through the whole fastboot process and accidentally wipe my phone and it not even be worth it. I just checked my son's Verizon Pixel XL, and his oem unlock switch is indeed greyed out. His is not a replacement phone, but we are both on Verizon. **Solved** Bootloader unlocked!
If you can toggle it then you should be able to unlock. Worst case the unlock command just won't work if it's not a Google version. Can't hurt to try.
Hi... Enable usb debugging and try:
adb shell getprop ro.boot.cid
If it's a Verizon the output is : VZW__001
For Google: 11111111
Or with fastboot (not going to wipe anything )
fastboot oem getcid
I am not able to hook up my phone to a pc at the moment so I downloaded Cid Getter from the play store.
ro.boot.cid: VZW_001
ro.boot.oem_unlock_support:0
but, since I have the OEM Unlock switched toggled to on
sys.oem_unlock_allowed: 1
So with that being said, it is not a google device? Then why the ability to toggle the oem unlock switch?
Hi... Maybe a refurbished unit that someone already tampered before sending it back? Try rebooting in bootloader. Is the bootloader already unlocked? I know it sounds stupid since it's a Verizon device. I don't know. In another thread people who unlocked their Verizon pixel XL reported that the OEM unlock button remained greyed out though. Maybe you got an engineering device?
It says bootloader locked. I read some more that some users of 7.1.1 had this oem switch that could be used but it still didnt make a difference when trying to unlock the bootloader, so maybe i just have a faulty option in my settings that allows me to toggle the switch but it just doesn't matter because it is verizon bootloader?
Well... You just got to try the flashing unlock command and you'll be fixed!
Good luck...
Well, I ran through the ADB commands and it is indeed a verizon model phone, it is just baffling me why the OEM Toggle switch is not greyed out like all the other Verizon models. I don't really want to wipe my phone for no reason, so I will wait until I can find some more info.. thanks eveyrone for your help so far.
Hey. Just run :
fastboot flashing unlock
You can always abort the process. And you'll be fixed
The data wipe is the final step. If you make it that far then it's all good. Just toggle the unlock switch, reboot to fastboot and use 'fastboot oem unlock'. The security check is performed at this point and you will either be presented with the disclaimer or it will fail with no data wipe. You are also provided with an opt out if you get cold feet.
fastboot oem unlock is used for older device, starting with N6P, the proper command is:
fastboot flashing unlock
Cheers
It worked! I am unlocked! I can't believe I was able to get it to unlock even though it showed it as a verizon device on 7.1.1 March update. Thank you for your help!
It worked!
I wonder what's different from others 7.1.1 shipped Verizon Pixel XL... Maybe someone will stop by in this thread and shed some light...
Cheers...
I also got one of these replacement phones with the functional OEM unlock toggle. I haven't had the chance to connect to adb yet. Mine was a free warranty replacement from Verizon not asurion though as my original device was only 2 days old. It's on 7.1.1 with the January patch. My original device was on the February patch and had the option greyed out. So I have my finger crossed in hopes that it will actually unlock.
The CID is not the factor. Originally they thought that was it but obviously, as this thread confirms, that was incorrect.
How did you get a burn in?
Having my brightness up too high and not using auto brightness. Before the PIxel XL, I had been using an Iphone 6 plus for the longest and didn't know that with an amoled device you can't have the brightness up at like 85%. Now that I have learned the correct way, I don't think I could go further than 50% brightness anymore. But the burn in was of my navigation bar and status bar icons, if I went to a grey screen or white screen they would all show a shadow of them..
Someone on reddit stated that they didn't think Asurion stocked Verizon models, only Google models because they handle the Google Store Warranties as well, not sure how accurate that is, but I could see where that would be the case for me getting this one
Try immersive mode... Auto hide notification and navigation bar automatically... Can't live without since i use it...
My non-Verizon Pixel XL is stuck with a locked bootloader, OEM Unlocking Disabled, and is unable to boot to recovery, or the system (thus I cannot enable OEM unlocking). When I try to boot, it has the red message stating that my device is corrupt, then it turns off and does not boot.
How can I fix this?
I has AOSPA installed before this all went down, but I agree I made some dumb moves, and I am hoping someone here can help me out of this hole.
How did you lock your bootloader with AOSPA still installed? You always go back to stock before re-locking your bootloader. That was a pretty big mistake, and I'm not so sure there is a way around this.
If it's a Google Pixel XL, then try booting into fastboot (hold Power+Volume Down), run the "fastboot oem unlock" command, without quotes to unlock the bootloader, and flash a stock image.
Hope it works.

Can you unlock the bootloader from the bootloader screen with ADB command like you said when "allow OEM unlocking" in developer options has not been enabled? I'm sure that I could do that when I had the Nexus 6 but haven't tried it with my Pixel XL.
I think the command now is: fastboot flashing unlock

I don't think you can, it's why I wasn't sure it would work, but still worth an attempt. I used fastboot oem unlock when I unlocked my bootloader, so I guess the old command still works, but yeah, fastboot flashing unlock is the new way of doing it. :good:

I've tried it and none of that works. The device is on its way back to Google since I just got a Google coverage plan replacement. Hopefully, they won't pitch a fit that it's locked up the way it is.

Unlikely. Are they going to attempt a repair, or just outright replace the phone?
I'm not yet adept on the ins and outs of flashing stuff on this phone. Is it actually possible to flash a custom Rom on the Pixel XL while the bootloader is locked? I know it's not something anyone who values their phone would even attempt but with most phones you could never do it anyway. I understand there is a temporary TWRP that you can boot into without actually installing the custom recovery on your phone. Does this make it possible to do what happened with this user?

You have to have to unlock your bootloader to install any custom rom on the pixel.
Hey did you ever solve this? im in a similar prediciment. My phone keeps bootlopping, trying to flash an older ROM but bootloader is locked and none of the fastboot oem unlock commands work.

Do it now!
@t4nks120
The bootloader unlock for the Verizon Pixel/Pixel XL is working. Go here to unlock it.
So I followed instructions on how to unlock bootloader on my pixel xl. And now I'm unable to connect to my network. I put the sim card in and it doesn't recognize it. I've tried multiple times to restart phone with no luck. So I did this last night and the only solution was to hard reset the phone once more. But that untenable that oem unlock function! So I unlocked it once more just now and I'm in the same situation! Should I proceed by unlocking oem and than do a hard reset? I'm not really sure how to proceed from here if someone could give me some insight i would really really appreciate it!!!

Are you saying that it isn't recognizing your SIM, and saying there is no SIM inserted, or are you saying that it's simply not applying the right APN settings and so you can't get cellular data and such
hi , its easy , just remove your sim card , and flash the phone again
Once you OEM unlock your phone a hard reset should not relock your phone. The only way your phone should relock is by using issuing the command OEM lock or OEM flashing lock.
There is an issue with some phones and systems where the "allow OEM unlocking" check box will come unchecked, this doesn't mean the phone is relocked though.
I got it figured out thanks! Now I'm just trying to install twrp but I'm not having much luck lol

You have to boot to TWRP from fastboot with the TWRP image file and then flash TWRP from within that recovery.
