I'm running a completely stock OP3T with stock recovery and locked bootloader and latest OOS 9.0.6 installed.
Lately the phone has been unbearable to me and keeps hanging a lot with random crashes so im thinking about downgrading to OOS 4.1.7 as it is more stable. (I prefer OOS over custom roms to maintain stability and keep all the phone features intact).
I've downloaded OOS 4.1.7 from [oneplusupdates dot com] (cant post links cause im still new)
My question is : can I use the built in software update to locally select this file and preform the downgrade directly from pie to nougat?
I read somewhere that this could brick the device so i wanted to make sure.

Yes, that would surely brick the device. There are other steps involved before and while downgrading. Search on XDA for the steps.
The simplest solution to your problem is to download the current (9.06) OOS ROM and clean install/sideloading it. Your problem is most likely because of OTAs and not because of 9.06
The phone has replaced your bootloader to the point old roms are no longer compatible. Finding the correct zips and flashing order to downgrade the bootloader is a route i would not advise either. The easiest way to downgrade is find the msmdownloadtool unbrick thread of your specific model and download the version you desire or lower. Use this tool to flash the included files in upgrade mode and you will be on a stock, locked bootloader with the version you chose to download. Flashing always carries a risk, but i had no issues downgrading this way while i did run into issues flashing old zips. I switch between 5.0.8 based roms and the latest roms and its never let me down.
Update: I managed to figure out that the Beta 08 predated the latest stable release 10.0.13, which I also found by searching. Since 10.0.13 is newer than Beta 08, I'm good.
This 7T is making me feel like I haven't spent the last six years reading XDA threads.
So I bought a 1907 converted to global firmware with the bootloader unlocked from Swappa. Now that it's here I find it has the open beta on it (OP7T_02_BETA_08) which I would prefer to roll back to stable. Something tells me there is not yet a roll back zip for this beta but a preliminary search didn't help. So if you know of a zip, tia.
Android 10 introduced a lot of powerful new tools to the Oneplus space and the only one I am familiar with is the fastboot roms (thanks! They're a lifesaver). I have not used the MSM tool, etc. I have never rolled back an OP beta. I can't even find a page about the OP 7T betas, although I assume the seller has the latest one on this phone. I'm ok using one of these tools if I do it now, since I have not yet put any personal data on the device.
As I see it these are my options from most desirable down:
1) Roll back to 10.0.12 or 10.0.13 assuming there is a roll back zip and I have instructions on how to use it.
2) Use a tool that is new to me to roll back.
3) Live with beta and simply root it via the fastboot flash method.
As for rooting the beta, can I use any of the prepatched boot img's here, which was my intention when I thought I was getting global stable? Or is the easiest thing to do just to boot the unofficial twrp and flash the latest Magisk zip (20.4?)? I think that's probably easiest.
So assuming a roll back to stable isn't possible now, and I root the beta by whatever means, how do I get back to stable eventually? I know this has been answered very often but I have never wanted to deal with betas over 3 different OP phones so if you'd indulge me with basic explanations/links I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Download the OnePlus 7T - Global
Flash from your phone in the system settings then reboot, it will wipe everything after it boots back up go thru the setup quickly and do a factory reset one more time from the settings and your set. After that just download Oxygen Updater and catch up to the current update.

Hi
I dont have signal on my cellular now after the updating...
There is a Temporary fix until the next update ?
I have the same problem. I can't even downgrade
New version 22.0.0.0 and no signal bug. Omfg
Having trouble since open beta 1 in receiving and placing calls, crazy what 1+ is releasing
12 sounds is shaky at best
12 stable managed to brick my phone almost.
Had to use all sort of tricks to get out of Crashdump Mode. But you can get out.
Anyway. It's a mess.
I have network but the whole OS feels SO unbaked. My phone is stuck in 60hz most of the time. Apps, functionality is missing. Things we've had in OOS. It's crap, I am sorry I'm going to say it like that.
This is a DOWNGRADE.
I wonder how 1+'s forums will look like after people storm it.
Anyway. You can downgrade with MSMTool, but it will wipe your data and you start from the stock OS.
Guess you can download latest OOS11, and Local Upgrade via System Update and disable update.
That's my plan at least.
You can also try using custom roms, but I am unsure about their stability (yet).
I'm still hoping they will release 12.0.0.1 this night

How did you get into edl mode running A12?
My network doesn't work on OOS12 stable for some reason. I spent 2 days flashing different oos12 builds (eu, global, indian) to try to see if the network comes back, tried literally everything but no luck
Very disappointed. Had to come back to OOS11. Everything works perfectly, except the fact that I'm not running the latest android version on my flagship 9 Pro.
Read my post here. And back through a few others.

I was getting the same issue, but flashing a different variant of your current c.44 should do the trick.
Ex: I have a LE2127 (TMO), I converted with a11 to use LE2123(EU) software updates. When android 12 hit my phone wouldn't give me data on the 2123 update, so I had to download the LE2125(global/NA) update and flash using the the system update app that was so generously given in the following post:
Post in thread '[TMO] 9 PRO MODEM RETENTION' https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/tmo-9-pro-modem-retention.4292445/post-86328243
I don't know what software or model your phone is now, so I am NOT suggesting you switch if you are not already on 2123 or 2125. Those two are interchangeable without problem so it should be fine

I don't know anything about the Indian variant so I'm not sure if the same fixed will work.
But I can tell you I have tried every msm tool and almost every possible variant an no matter what goes wrong there has been a fix here in the these forums already.
Currently running lastest c.44 global LE2125 A12 on my TMo LE2127 model device with ZERO bugs so far. Data works flawlessly

Did you read the data retention thread and msm using the given tool in that thread ONLY? If you use that msm tool, the take the local update to 11.2.9.9 then update the your variant of C44 you should have no issues.

Are you sure about this?? Because I flashed OOS12 by first flashing OS 11.2.8.8 through MSM tool and then updating to android 12.
Do you think flashing 11.2.9.9 will actually work, because I'll have to through the hastle of downgrading and then updating again. (As I'm running 11.2.10.10 atm)
The help is much appreciated.

Same way you would in android 11.
Make sure the phone is completely off. Hold volume up and volume down buttons, and plug it in.
Make sure you already have the msm tool fully opened and ready to click enum.
As soon as you plug it in it should say ok ok in the tool, click enum then start.
I stress that point to do it quickly because it will fail with different errors if it's not done quick enough after the device is plugged in.
I'm trying to update my Redmi Note 8 Pro global from 12.0.8 to 12.5.1 manually since it doesn't find new updates no matter what i do.
I downloaded the ROM and selected it in "Choose update package", it tries to verify the update for a few seconds then just show me the message "Can't verify update. Couldn't verify update package." or "Can't verify update. Can't flash this stable ROM."
I tried to install it via USB flashing it with mi flash tool, still got the same message.
Does anyone know a fix for this, or at least why this is happening? Any help are appreciated.
Unlock bootloader, download the appropriate ROM for your version of smartphone (fastboot version), delete the check from the flash bat and you can flash. First try flashing, see if it boots. If everything is OK, you can try flash and lock.

It's not about the warranty, it's about my bank apps that might not work with the bootloader unlocked.
I'm going to do some research on how to unlock and lock the bootloader, as I didn't know it was possible to lock it again. Thank you for your help!

I fear that you might have misunderstood me. You cannot relock the bootloader while running a modified stock rom/custom rom. You can only relock the bootloader on a stock rom.

Are you running the latest stock version of your rom? Then, if you plan on using a smartphone with a locked bootloader, you already are. With a locked bootloader you won't get unofficial updates.

1. Eu rom is really better than global? (Btw EEA = ea rom on this website:- https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/archive/miui/apollo/ ) ??
2. I heard to get eu rom i need something like twrp and adp something.. but can i get ea room from recovery just like global rom (method u mentioned above. Bcz ur method seems SUPER easy than eu rom one).

The rom from Xiaomi.eu is a custom rom. Xiaomi.eu is a group of enthusiasts who modify the stock Xiaomi rom, adding and removing features. Make no mistake, that's a custom rom. Close the bootloader with that one installed and you hard brick your device. The method I told you is the official one, which makes downgrading and upgrading your phones super easy. Now, if you want to flash a different version of the stock rom to your phone and lock the bootloader afterwards, be careful. There were reports that nothing happened and everything worked, but unfortunately not that many. A different stock rom might have a different cell tower reception, not adjusted to your country. So you might get less reception.

Same here, I am facing exactly the same issue as you. Though I have searched around, I still can't find the solution.
China op11 convertet to oos can not make a ota uodate
After ota (full pack ) the phone have a bootloop and you have (only with unlocked bl) to flash a image from coloros back to the phone without this inage bootloop
Simple
With unlocked bl flash the full rom over fastbootd and flash the one coloros image back qnd reboot (delete when you have the cow partition and than reboot )
