Hello,
would you please tell me if there's any app that can edit the horizon light animation and/or add a loop, so the animation continues till the notification has been read or cleared?
Thanks in advance
Would be a nice feature to have since the notification LED is gone
On Color OS 12 Stable works fine & is awesome.
I really wish we had Renovate ICE for OP9P. I used that to customize the horizon light on my previous phone.

I 1000% feel the same way. I find myself wanting to go back to my 7pro just to have RICE again. It was so easy to install/use and had every customization option I wanted. I just got my 9pro within the past month and at least once a day I debate returning it and using my 7Pro still just for Renovate.
:I can't decide if I should try a custom ROM like evolution or try to hold out for a rom to flash in Magisk similar to how RICE was. Not sure how many of those will exist anymore considering Magisk is slowly going away

If mwilky and the rest of the Dev team managed to get a OP10, would you upgrade to the 10?

If the hardware turns out to be a better upgrade than the 9 series was and it receives a generally positive response from the dev community, I'll probably upgrade. RICE would definitely be a bonus, but overall this phone just hasn't lived up to my expectations.

I didn't realize how much I depended on notification light until it was gone. The ambient display serves my needs as a replacement.

Yeah, it's natively available in Oxygen OS. See Settings > Display > Ambient Display. I set it to show during my daily active hours.
Other places that affect this include:
notification detail settings and customization (to change the clock style & other visual elements).
Enjoy!

Im not entirely sure how well this works, but I have messed around with this app previous. I used an app on the playstore called AOA by newGen Mobile, its not quite an ambient display but it is an Always on Display app that enables you to customize your horizon lights as you see fit(color, duration, pattern and such). There is a free version of it if you want to at least try it out.

would love to get a battery% on there.
Agreed. That would be nice.

I don't understand why Google doesn't put battery percent on the screen I would also like to be able to adjust the size
Have there been any updates on this subject now that we have the working root and TRWP?
Really love to have options to change clock colors and display battery percentage.

It would be nice if Google could do something simple like say, have an automatic off setting so it's not wasting power during the night.
Must Samsung lead the way with everything Google does? Seriously?

Yes. It's something Samsung has had for ages now. I mean Google took the time to create a scheduled system for blue light reduction, yet couldn't bother to do the same with Ambient Display. It's either on 24-7 or off.
The best solution I've found is to put a piece of paper or such over the top sensor at night so the phone will think the device is in a pocket and turn off the screen.

The best ideas are the easiest sometimes. I stay away from Samsung. I can't stand trying to figure out where they put stuff at. Why change menu structure even. I've tried several times because of the awesome hardware but never make it past about 2 months.

Cheers for the tip! :good::good: We've done my part now let's wait
I just got my pixel 2 XL and can't believe google has not enabled this already, it's a very basic item and a must have for many.
Pretty pathetic, hopefully once roms start dropping this will fix many shortcomings on the device.
As mentioned in an different thread, using Accubattery will display the battery level on the AOD. In my brief testing, Google reported the app as not consuming any measurable amount of power overnight, so no appreciable battery draw. Also, there is a root app from an XDA RC that displays the music you are currently playing/streaming on to the AOD. This is different from the existing "now playing" feature already built in, and at the end of the article HERE it says that almost any "text" can be displayed on the AOD. It's not the built in Google controls for the AOD we are expecting, but there is hope for customization for those with root, and in the coming ROMs.

I hope they enable the ability to keep the icon on the lockscreen while removing it from the notification panel.. that would be perfect.

Is it possible to enable the notification LED to pulse on this device? I know it's possible with Android Nougat because it was working on my OnePlus 2 on RR. Oreo RR has the option on this device but it doesn't work properly, and any solution I've found for customizing the LED doesn't have an option to enable this functionality.

Thanks for the tip. I was actually trying to find something that would enable the LED to be turned on while the screen is on, but it looks like Light Manager confirmed my suspicion. It looks like either Oreo disabled this, or Pixel's LED just doesn't work this way.
Am using the DU ROM, and it has the option of LED in screen on / DND and it all works for me. I use this as my daily driver as am content with the insane amount of LED customization I get.

Ohh, excellent! How's battery life, the camera (I'm sure it's same as stock with Google camera right?) customization, stability? I'm perfectly happy on stock besides the LED, so I'm trying to figure out if it's worth going through the hassle of flashing another ROM. Thanks

Battery life is definitely better than stock, comparable to Nitrogen. My stock was giving slight less screen-on time and much less idle time. Not giving you any numbers as usages vary person to person.
Stability is good too.
Camera is all stock as usual.
There are a lot of DU tweaks, same as aquarios and other other ROMs. Maybe lil more or less, but am not that much into it. You can check out more in their website or the unofficial thread here in XDA.

It's not necessarily something I absolutely need, I'd just like to have it back. I got used to having it on my OnePlus 2, and it was useful to be able to tell that I had a pending notification, like a message or a missed call during media consumption like Netflix or YouTube. It also allowed me to get rid of Heads Up notifications and disable vibrations.
This app is a great substitute for OnePlus 6T and no LED. Allows you to get colorful notifications from your favorite apps.

1. Battery Optimization don't optimize
2. Do not check my lock screen as background. ( helps get customized app color )

Make sure you have the app set to Don't Optimize if you haven't already. I'm not sure why it isn't working for you and not sure what you have for set up.
It is an amazing app!
I'm using this, had figured it out even before this thread.
Turn on 'New Notifications' in Ambient Display and also do not optimise the app.
It works. And it's the coolest alternative to a notification LED.

Mine uses little or no battery at all. Right now I have been up for 13 hours and AOE doesn't even register and I have been getting all my notifications
Use it for 2 days because I thought plus beat not working anymore ( I accidentally turn off lock screen notifications).
AOE working well but lack of feature I want - battery full notification.
Now back to plus beat.

Just installed this and it appears to be working. This is the first app that I see doing what I wanted (a very unobtrusive way of telling if notifications have arrived).
Did not need to to activate "New Notifications" under Ambient Display for it to work. Are you sure it's needed?
I'm not managing to customize the color of the colored stripes according to the app sending a notification. Not that I care too much, on Nexus 6P LED color was mostly irrelevant to me. I just needed a visual cue that something needed my attention if I missed the audio one.

I got it working but it times out after 1 minute. I have my display set to sleep after 1 minute of inactivity but if this follows that rule it's kind of useless for notifications.
Maybe I'm missing a setting?
Edit: found the setting I was missing.

What setting? I also see this behaving strangely. It seems that, as other apps, it gets killed in the background even if one opts not to battery optimize it.
OP behaves exactly like Apple in this regard: they get to decide how I should use *my* smarphone.

Yeah, I set all that. Results have been inconsistent as far as working after long inactivity is concerned.
I wish OP had thought of baking something similar in their OS, when they decided to take away the LED.

I agree, I wish OnePlus had baked something like this into the stock ROM. My second screenshot doesn't look like it posted for some reason so here it is.
5% battery usage. Not cool. This with "Stable" edge styling, which should be the best for battery.
Uninstalling.
I'm planning to buy this phone. But bugs keep me from buying it. I shouldnt spend $700 with stupid issues it shouldnt have. Hope you guys know of a fix....
1. Can I turn off auto brightness without rebooting? Why no toggle for it in status bar?
2. No dark notifications... why aren't notifications dark?
3. Why does the EMUI look so outdated?
4. Some features not working with 3rd party launchers like Nova. Is there a fix?
Dont mean to sound like an ass. But I shouldnt have to invest almost a grand for a phone with issues other phones dont have. Its ridiculous. If you guys have solutions to these issues please let me know. Hope to join the huawei family without them.
.
The fact thet you're here in XDA tells me that you play more with your phone than keeping it bone stock.
1 - Nope, auto brightness isnalways ON which I find stupid.
2 - There is Dark mode that turn the system UI black including Notification panel but not Notification Banner.
3 - I hate EMUI
4 - You can't change launcher on most recent update and there no fix to that. You can on older version like 9.1.0.120 but you need an unlocked bootloader and root.
So do your self a favor and stay away from any Huawei Device and go with Oneplus or Xiaomi
Have bought this phone (UK version) but yet to recieve it.
Not being able to change launcher, is that an issue just for the china version or the international version too on the latest update? That would be a biggie.
Also are there any issues with notifications not getting through all the time (an affliction a lot of Huawei phones suffer from). I had the Honor note 8 (Chinese) and this issue made it infuriating to use. A phone without notifications working properly is a dumb rather than a smart phone in my book.
Lastly one of the best bits about the Honor Note 8 was the ability to clear the notifications by double tapping on the finger print sensor. Do you have that on the Mate 20 X?

Dunno, brightness never bothered me

who said that ? THEMES !! it comes will all sort of colors, just download huawei theme manager from playstore, it also including fonts as well
there is also a theme editor from the playstore where you mix and match and come up with your favorite theme all from your phone.
3. Why does the EMUI look so outdated?
because it is ! next month they are releasing a new version where they copied alot from OneUI, which is a good thing and they focused on smoothness and cleaner UI
4. Some features not working with 3rd party launchers like Nova. Is there a fix?
i am using nova, i think this is a chinese version issue not global

i have it for almost 4 months, and i got the note10+ with my renewal and trust me, i sold it without even opening the box. nothing comes close to Mate 20x as a complete package these days, its really fast, battery lasts forever, great screen, amazing camera, amazing charging speeds and one of a kind speakers.

You can toggle it ON/OFF whenever. It does not require a reboot. Adaptive brightness turns ON anytime the device is rebooted. It is not such a big deal do not worry about it if you are going to buy the device.

You can either use the new Screen Brightness or turn if off completely.
Have you tried training it for a few days by adjusting the brightness to your needs?
For me, it works perfectly after the training phase.
There is no way a normal user can do it, on a locked device. I am sure there are ways with root there are ways to fix this. This was my biggest issue for a week when I got Android 9, and now 10 (since in 10 whatever was learned in pie, at least for me, was lost). After a week of teaching it how I want things to do, it just does it at it should.

The point is ML doesnt obey my commands. Thats why i want to disable it.
It learns ok. but when it finishes his learning phase i cant control the Brightness manually.
For example:
ML increases Brightness to %100
but thats too much for me for that moment
so i am trying change it to %50 and then
ML immediatly increases Brightness to %100
I cant control the Brightness after the Learning phase. Its just so dumb.
I just want back my old but gold Light Sensor.

Indeed, you are right, the old fashion system pre-9 was much better, and much more reliable. You set a point on the slider and the auto-brightness only modified slightly in that area. Until the auto-brightness post-9 learns it's a chore, and after that... teaching it new things, it's again a chore.
The whole process is related to the Device Health Services subsystem where you can reset the whole learning to factory default. Maybe from there, you can have some success, but from what I've googled, there is no way to do that on stock locked. Maybe there are xposed, or magisk modules that could take care of that.

Wow.. I have never seen that. Been using 9 since it came out, with the latest sec. patch every time. I've adjusted the brightness many times, but I've never seen this happen.
Is it the same if you drag it instead of tapping a new location for the knob?
Also, I have the complete Digital Wellbeing bs disabled for a long time now, maybe that's why I've never seen this? Might have to do something with it.
