Hello,
I want to launch a 3rd party camera app when double pressing the power button.
However, when disabling the stock camera app, the double press shortcut is doing nothing neither asking for anything.
The stock camera package name seems hardcoded.
Where can I change the apk name this shortcut is using?
Thanks !
Replying to myself :
It can easily be done with Tasker using this profile:
https://taskernet.com/shares/?id=Profile:Double+Press+Power+Camera
The double press shortcut still need to be enabled in Settings -> System -> Gestures

Thanks for the info, that's interesting to know and might help someone else later on.
Always nice to see that the solutions to problems get posted here. There are enough OPs out there that never update their post and it just gets forgotten, even though the problem has been solved at some point.
@Thibale That link won't open for me on my Pixel. I get: "taskerserver.error.ExceptionUserNotAuthenticated". I'm new to Tasker, btw. Trying to figure it out. A question: do I require root to implement this function?

I don't know I never used Tasker before as well but for such a simple task it was pretty straightforward, just specify the gcam apk in the tasks properties.
Tasker is getting a root access but I don't know if it's mandatory for this task.

I get this. Now what to do?
The UI of Tasker for me is the exact opposite of intuitive. I have no clue why it is necessary to create a profile to create a task to launch an app. I'm totally lost.
I'm glad that there's now the possibility to do stuff via taskernet. I few years ago I was happy when I found the solution when somebody made a step-by-step guide to achieve the intended actions in Tasker I was looking for. Kudos to those people.
If the direct link doesn't work, just search for "double press power camera" on taskernet public profil and you should be able to get it
I'm not able to find it. There is only one camera related task to import. But that's for quick settings.
Button mapper can do this.

Try this Tasker profile: https://taskernet.com/shares/?user=AS35m8lVhcOaGKZz/GWc7NgvIt2AxLZ8vmPse1zqSHFH7jZHS101OvNEymTLPwosP7Hb3zvB&id=ProfileoublePress
I'm too lazy to figure out how reset the app for double-tap, so this task just kills the stock camera and launches "Camera 8.3". You'll need root. If you want it to open a different app you'll need to change it in the task
Edit: if you don't want to import the profile, just create one that triggers from event>system>logcat entry:
For component enter "GestureLauncherService" (no quotes! capitalizion matters!). For filter enter "Power button double tap gesture detected, launching camera"
Then just assign whatever task you want
Is it possible to use double tap to wake up phone when asleep? or double tap for screen off when awake? Basically replace the tap button as a power button...

Hi,
Does anyone know how to make applications close when you press the "OK" HARDWARE key? I've tried Switch, Magic Button and SPB. Each closes applications when I use the stylus to tap on the "x" or "ok" button on the screen, but only minimize apps when I press the "ok" hardware button.
(IMHO, it's rather silly of Microsoft and HTC not to make this possible by default. Especially as the call-end hardware button already does the job of minimizing applications and returning you to the today screen...)
Please advise.
Thanks.

I've been using the HTC Close Button cab on my Orbit.
Its a small app that really close the progs with the "X".
And this works very good!!
Coolgadget,
Thanks for that .........spot on, just what I've been looking for, why didn't O2 put that on as standard???
Rob
I use AE button plus (google) which allows me to map such functions to whatever button I choose.
The unregistered version is all that is needed.

Coolgadget, thanksfor the cab, but I'm afraid it hasn't helped. It is behaving exactly as the oters did. Yes, it closes applications when you tap on the "X" on the screen, but it only minimizes the app when you press the "ok" HARDWARE button (emphasis on hardware, not on-screen). Could I be doing something wrong?
What I want is a way to actually close applications by pressing a hardware key (helps one handed operation when on the move).
Any idea, anyone?

In the past few days I'm using Executive Assistant as my lockscreen replacement, and it's very complete: it is very customizable, and shows all your unread emails, sms, unanswered calls, upcoming events etc.
The only thing I don't like is that if I press the home button, the stock lockscreen kicks in, and I cannot find a way to get rid of it for good.
Has anyone found a solution for this? I would like Executive Asssitant to be the only lockscreen on my phone.
Thanks!
This is the URL to the app developer: http://www.appventive.com/executive-assistant
Try downloading Home Switcher from the Market, then launch the app.
If Executive Assistant is in the list, then tap Clear default at the bottom, scroll down, tap Clear defaults, press the Back softkey, press the Home button, then check the Set as default box before tapping Executive Assistant.
use the app called "no lock".

So far the only lockscreen replacement that works flawlessly is GoTO, but I don't like it so much.

Executive Assistant doesn't show in the list so, if I got it right, the problem is with ADW Launcher: basically whatever lock screen replacement I choose, when I hit the home button ADW recalls the stock lockscreen.
Any replacement I choose is simply laid on top of the stock one, instead of substituting it.
So Executive Assistant is just an app and not a home/lockscreen replacement.
Dunno where to go from here, sorry.

So that's it, then? Is there NOTHING that gives basic missed notifications about calls/texts/emails etc with names on the lockscreen for android that works efficiently or smoothly?? I've searched and searched this forum and the market and even bought and tried widgetlocker with the Missed It! app which seemed to be the closest thing to what I've been searching and it didn't work. I mean, close, but no cigar. It was very inaccurate (said there were missed things when there weren't). Does it have to do with another of apple's f'ing "patents"? I just want to know, if anyone can help out, if this exists or not so I can stop my mindless searching that has been eating up my time for the past 3 days. Thanks all.
Oh, on samsung galaxy s3. at&t but i'm searching all over the forums.
I was hoping to find a way to have Tasker turn on PSM when I'm at work or at night when I'm sleeping. Is there a way to either get Tasker to do this or to create a scrpt to access PSM via terminal?

I was looking for this as well. I know it should be possible via an activity but I don't know where to find it. The closest I could find was in the settings app, but this only opens the settings dialog.
com.android.settings.Settings.$PowerSettingsActivity
Maybe it is somewhere in one of the samsung apps? If so it would be great if one of the devs here knew.
Don't know how to do it with tasker. Not sure it would be possible as it's a samsung function, not a native android function.
I can get my overnight power draw to less then 1% per hour even with bluetooth and cellular on. GPS and wifi affect my battery the most
If your mobile is rooted then it is possible by dpad.
First make power saving mode toggler in notification bar as attached in screen shot.
Now make task (nameower saving on)as below
1. Status bar: expanded
2. Dpad: action down-1
3. Dpad: action press-1
4. Status bar : collapse
Make same task for power saving off.
You can add in any profile like display on, display unlocked etc.

Double tap to wake has never been on this phone, nougat or oreo, unless you run androplus kernel.
That's because it is a kernel feature rather than an OS one.
Screen video capture, not sure, never seen nor used it, but there's apps for that.

Sony used to have a built-in screen capture app but they got rid of it for some reason. Im super annoyed that theres no double tap to wake though. Thats like a step down from my Z2.

I thought id take a look through this app called privset and I noticed theres a set double tap to wake option. I wonder if it works because its current value is false. The app does require root but I know that some root apps can be used with write secure settings granted through adb on non root devices. I wonder if this could work.

[GUIDE] Make a stock "screen off" shortcut that works with Fingerprint/SmartLock
Hi!
One thing I've always thought that was missing in this phone was a "screen off" shortcut that so many brands currently have.
Third party options have caveats. Using device administrator locks the phone but disables fingerprint or smar lock, using timeout often didn't work well as the black screen sometimes continued to show the status bar or was responsive to touches during the timeout.
This method shuts the screen off as if you pressed the power button using bixby.
To do this:
- Open Bixby - Click the 3 dotted menu - Quick commands - My commands - Click on the plus icon to add a command.
-Name it as you wish in any language, the name you give it here is the name of the shortcut on the home screen.
-Then in what bixby does choose "type a command" and write "Screen off".
- Save it
- Then click the 3 dotted menu in front of the command you've just made and choose Add to Home Screen.
That's it, enjoy!

Great
doubleHome
There's an even easier way to do this and it works anywhere on the phone, not just the launcher shortcut. I've been using this utility called doubleHome from Jawomo since my S8+ days, and it lets me double tap the home button from anywhere to turn off and lock the screen. Just installed it on my new A50, still works great!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-doublehome-double-tap-home-to-off-t3611220
It's no longer on the Play Store or even supported anymore, but the above thread has one of the last versions (v1.30). There was one last update to v1.31, which is the one I've always used since I originally updated it through the Play Store before it was pulled. This last version can easily be found with a Google search.
There are a few miscellaneous options to customize its behavior and some Pro features that were unlockable at one point but no longer. One little "glitch" if you can even call it that, the status bar will stay on for a second or two before turning off like the rest of the screen. This didn't used to happen until Oreo and later, but it's not a big deal at all - actually looks kinda neat.
Give it a try!
This is great!
