I recently transitioned away from Samsung to the Pixel and I miss the Game Launcher app and the Sound Assistant app which had functionality that I haven't seen in other apps.
I have tried installing their APK and they just crash whenever I launch them. Is there a way to get these working?
You would need to install the apps they are dependent on to install, load and run.
Probably some it is baked into the Samsung firmware.
Samsung heavily mods the Android OS especially starting with Android 10.
The Pixel landscape is barren by comparison.
You also lost the SSC codec so if you have any of the Samsung Buds bt series devices, that is their optimal codec.
Lol never thought someone would miss Samsung apps !
Old habits die hard, change is hard; ask any Android->iOS/ iOS->Android switcher. You need a lot more of the One UI Framework for Samsung apks to work.

Game Launcher I never use but Sound Assistant I use constantly, it provides up to 100 increments for volume control.
On my N10+ Q variant there are literally dozens more small Samsung system akps that make the Q UI user friendly and functional compared to my N10+ Pie variant.
Android 11 and 12 are all messed up... doubt even Samsung can clean it up completely.
Q is still user friendly/functional on Samsung flagships though.
The Samsung One UI is fast, efficient, rock solid stable with the best customization of any stock Android. At least half dozen Galaxy store add ons for increased customization that aren't available otherwise. It's a very good ecosystem.
My N10+'s look like and act I want them to.
You simply can't mod and trick out a stock Pixel to near this degree... par for the course.

The Samsung Sound Assistant App offers individual app control for volume and some other finer granular controls on a per-app basis, e.g. one app that is constantly too loud is Instagram in comparison to other apps and I usually cut its volume by 20% and some games I only like a slight sound from meanwhile others I like at full volume and have them automatically set to the levels I like is rather handy. This functionality is built into an overlay app that is integrated with the sound settings so you don't need to exit an app to adjust volume levels.
The Samsung Game Launcher, in my opinion, is far superior to the Google Play Game Launcher as the user interface has a better layout which helps with navigation and opening apps, there is also optional game muting options, discord integration, and the instant apps are a better selection (rather than just booting a store app temporarily, which is also handy). The ability for the launcher to hide all of the game icons so you know you only need to go to one app to find your games, there is some optimisation built into the app (disabling some things to make games run faster but this is hardly relevant with a powerful phone). The last thing is that the Samsung Game Launcher ads are less intrusive when you have the app in folder mode (appears over the top of the ads).

Hi
Samsung roms comes with a system app named MusicFX. This app is the core app for the built in 5 band equalizer and effects. The only problem is that the app does not have a user interface, so without a music player that can make use of MusicFX, it is pretty much useless.. There are many equalizer apps on google play, but non of them works on Sammy JB. I've tested many of them, until I came across a free app called Equalizer FX:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devdnua.equalizer.free&feature=search_result
Of course this app did not work on Sammy JB either (and did not work well on ICS because many music players did not support it, so it only worked if you use it to play single file at a time). However, after de-compiling thus app, I noticed that it has very similar code to the MusicFX system app from Sammy JB (XWLSD build). So I decided to make an experiment and replaced the similar smali files of Eq FX by the ones from Our MusicFX (LSD). After trial and error and some label renaming and modifications, I got it to work on our JB.
Moreover, I also inverted the app with cool JB reloaded blue theme and I disabled the built in ad banner (Since this app is now only compatible with Sammy JB roms, I'm guessing this ad blocking does not violates forum rules.. If Mods think otherwise, just let me know and I will replace it with a version that includes ads just like the Google play free versions. Note that this modded app uses the free version package).
The app is signed so you may install it as any other app.
I tested it with many music players including default and poweramp and it works. I also tested it with voice call from speaker and it is working.
Here is the link to download:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/58987384/EqualizerFX_Mod.apk
Install then go to settings - music effects and select Equalizer FX.
Next I will try to mod it further so it will have separate profiles for headphones, speaker and Bluetooth (currently I'm trying to figure how to do it by looking at the code of AwesomeBeats that has this functionality)
Enjoy and let me know if it works (state the version of your rom. Guaranteed to work on XWLSD).
Credits:
devdnua for original Equalizer FX app (v1.3.1 free)
Features:
* Works independently (regardless of the player used. for Poweramp you'll need to disable audio direct access)
* 5 band equalizer (using build in HW eq of onboard Soundchip)
* Bass boost
* All available MusicFX profiles
* Can add new user profiles
* Virtualization
* Black Blue JB theme
* Ad free
Nice work bro!
Working grate! Good job
Chameleon Rom(LS8) and Latest Poweramp(feature using MusicFX directly added)
Works fine.
The range of frequency in hearing is little bit different from other apps like this(Equalizer via Smart Android Apps, etc...) but it is just my noobynish about the difference.
Thanx a lot mate
I'll use this few days more to test about the bug others have(going back all EQ band into 0 for few seconds).
Can you adopt the opinion or idea? I have some and these maybe cool...
1. Backing up my EQ value which I set through syncing my google account(to backup my settings much safe and apply any devices I use)
2. Add methods for adjusting EQ with type numbers with keyboard apps or toggle + and - ( too hard to set the values through dragging on touch )

As for the range, this eq make use of the internal hardware DSP controlled by the MusicFX engine. It turns out that the equalizer built in is not a graphic eq, but rather a parametric eq. This means when you boost one slide, you are actually boosting or attenuating entire frequency band, who's center frequency is the freq of the slide being boosted. i.e the 14kHz slide will affect an entire band ranging from ~8khz up to 18khz..
As for the slide adjust sensitivity, I agree, it is a little jumpy.. But this is how the original app dev made the UI. Its gonna take me some time to develop my dev skills to be able to do some advance modding. i was only lucky to notice that the original app is nothing but a UI made for MusicFX.apk, that includes it's own MusicFX taken from AOSP rom (this is why the original app did not work for Sammy JB). I only replaced the lines of code for the old musicFX with ones taked from new Sammy JB rom and of course I also changed the app theme.
I'm currently working on an AIO audio mod for JB that will combine AC!D audio + Beats + Xloud + Alsa + ClearAudio in one working CWM mod.

M8, that sounds really awesome as the original AC!D 7.0 is a bit buggy on SGS2 based on Sammy JB.
I would defenitely try it when you release the pack

So amazing! Others have a specified same bug(EQs turn off about a couple of seconds) but this is not.
I think this app is the only flawless and the best EQ app
I'll definitely give this a try, I've always like noozyoxide rewire but for some reason I can download it on my s2.
This one seems promising considering it works with the hw.

I can remove it permanently by a mod, but I don't think most people will like it this way.. You can easily access the eq this way. However, if you're on new JB rom, you can turn off notifications from settings - applications for this app
works fine on Captivate I897 with Xylon JB rom
any possibility to incorporate SRS mod(i-wow)?
thanks for the app.
I'll give this a try. Looking forward for your next project!
Hi guys! My name Dmitry. I am CEO of devdnua and developer of Equalizer FX
EB10000, good job! I would ask you what did you do to got it work on JB? I have few devices and on it works on all devices well.
I will be grateful if you tell me what you have fixed.
One root mod/app I miss quite a bit is Viper4Android. It makes a HUGE difference to audio quality. Even more so on a smartphone with a subpar DAC such as our note 4 (the exynos variants are excluded since they have a Wolfson DAC). Due to the lack of root on the ATT note 4, I've been carrying a secondary device with Viper4Android to enjoy my music with headphones. But not anymore. I've found the next best thing and NO ROOT required. Truthfully, it's not as good as V4A; but it's definitely an improvement over everything else I've tried so far on the note 4. It is called Noozxoide EIZO-rewire PRO.
KitKat Setup:
Install from the play store here
Go to Settings>Sound>Music effects and select Noozxoide
You should be good to go
Enjoy
Lollipop Setup:
Install from the play store here
Go to Settings>Application manager
Swipe to the "ALL" tab
Find "SoundAlive" and disable it
(not sure if this is needed but just in case) Now find "Package Adapt Sound" and also disable it
Noozxoide should now work
Enjoy
Tips:
Get rid of persistent icon/notification -
When you see the app's icon in the status bar, pull down the notification shade and select the noozxoide notification. Untick the box for "Show notifications" and voila no more constant icon in status bar.
Sound quality/app settings:
I personally only bother with the "LINE-OUT" option since that's the one that corresponds to the aux jack.
By just having Noozxoide as the default EQ and all options unchecked in the app I noticed an improvement in sound quality.
- Check the box for "Deliver balanced natural soundstage and premium bass" and select one of the digital presets. Different presets give a different sound signature. Try each and select what sounds best to you.
- *Apparently "VE-Engine (Volume Enhancement)" does not work for our Qualcomm DAC so don't use this*
- For more warmth and bass check the box for "Increase the monitor size with added psycho-acoustic" and again select the effect strength. WARNING! The bass can get very strong!
- For wider soundstage and surround sound check the box for "Create VSUR on practical monitors and widen soundstage" and select one of the room sizes.
My personal settings:
I generally only check the first box and select the "Audiophile" preset. That's it. However, when using closed-back over ear headphones and listening to EDM, I pump up a bit of the bass for some eargasmic, soul crushing bass.
A couple of points I'd like to make:
1. Like I previously stated, I only care about the "LINE-OUT" option. I didn't bother checking out the "BUILT-IN" (speaker) or "WIRELESS" (Bluetooth) options.
2. It is recommended to use good headphones/earphones/speakers to get the most out of this app. Otherwise you might not hear a difference compared to the stock SoundAlive.
3. DOES work with ART and Lollipop
4. MOST IMPORTANTLY, audio quality can very subjective so what sounds good to me may not sound good to you. Try different options and hopefully something will sound good to YOU. If you end up agreeing with me that this is the next best thing to V4A, then you are welcome. Enjoy!
One last thing:
You might ask yourself, "why bother with this if I'm happy with the sound quality of -insert favorite music player-?" The answer is simple. Music players like PowerAmp sound great for playing back music located locally on the phone. However, what if you want great sound quality of all audio play back including streaming music apps like Google Play Music, Pandora, Spotify, etc? That's where this gem of an app comes in :highfive:.
I am not the dev of this app. All credit goes to dogsbark.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! Not being able to root sucks man and V4A was one of the biggest things that I missed the most. Again, thank you for sharing this, it works great on my Note. We don't have many options but this for sure is a good one. Good find.

You're welcome! I'm glad you're liking it. V4A and xposed are tied for most important things I miss about root.
P.S. Just a heads up, Noozxoide doesn't work with ART runtime so it won't work on Lollipop either until (hopefully) the dev updates the app. Something to keep in mind if you're running the ART runtime or if you take the lollipop update once it's released.

Yeah man, I'm really liking it, it's working pretty damn good. I've never really used xposed so I can't say I miss it, I was more of a ROM whore, I miss that a lot hahaha.
I haven't done anything to this phone, when I switched to AT&T and got the Note 4 and realized I couldn't root it I stopped checking XDA and now work has kept me extremely busy and out of the loop. I have no idea what ART runtime is :crying: I have to catch up... which is a good thing, I have something to look forward to on my off time.

Oh me too man! I'm a recovering ROM & kernel-holic lol. I would be on the lookout for a ROM and kernel combo that had all the features I needed/wanted plus battery life and performance. Once I found a combo I liked, I would just flash ROM and kernel updates though... until there was a new ROM or kernel to try out lol. Plus I would do a bunch of tweaks that is only possible with root. Ugh I know I could be getting SO MUCH more from this phone with root...
ART is the new runtime, instead of Dalvik, introduced by Google in kitkat. You have the option to run either Dalvik or ART in developer options. It was experimental in kitkat but its the only runtime available in lollipop. It is suppose to improve performance and battery life. Here's more info if you want to read more about ART. LINK

In addition, I've tried poweramp, neutron, and jet audio. And I feel like Jet audio with the dsp enabled sounds louder than the rest. I'd go Jet, neutron, poweramp.

Wow really? Neutron is praised as the best player on android by audiophiles. I use poweramp even though I know the sound quality is better on neutron. I just couldn't deal with the archaic ui of neutron. Looks horrible IMO. But I had not heard of jet audio. Something new to try. Thanks!
Maybe I am blind, but I no longer see a music effect option in the sound menu since the OTA update last night.
Edit: saw your post up above about not working on ART runtime which 5.0.1 makes use of. Wish I would have seen this before moving up.

I jumped the gun by claiming incompatibility with ART. I was convinced by reviews in the play store and posts I later found on xda about this app. They were wrong though. Only Noozxoide EIZO-rewire E (not PRO) is incompatible with ART.
I found this out by accident when I took the Lollipop update (didn't format data/factory reset) and noticed Noozxoide was still working :victory:. I looked for the reason why and remembered I had disabled SoundAlive before the update and after the update it was still disabled. So even though you can no longer select Noozxoide manually through Settings>Sound>Music effects, you can enable it by disabling all other dsp's/eq's.
Thank you for taking the time to figure all this out. I tried it the first time and wondered why it wouldn't "work" properly, but seems you figured out the Lollipop side effects. Trying it out now and it seems to be working much better.
I miss root and viper4android soo much and this is the cure to hold me over till then.
Seems to be working fine for me on Lollipop and I installed PRO not E. Incompatibility with ART would stop it from running correct? Not let it load and run, but fail to operate... However If I use NOOZY media player which has M built in, it says that M is incompatible with the DAC and has to run in debugging mode, So I switch to external DFX and PRO kicks in.

Yeah Pro works fine with art and lollipop, it's E that doesn't. From what I remember M is the best compared to PRO and E; however, it was very limited to the dacs it's compatible with (Sabre and burr brown only I believe). I think the plan originally was to make M separate from noozy and make it compatible with more dacs, just like PRO/E, but it seems like development has stopped unfortunately .
Doesn't work with spotify
It works with the stock music player, however, when attempting to use it with Spotify I can't hear any difference no matter what settings i change in Noozxoide, even though when i touch the Equalizer button in spotify settings it still opens the Noozxoide app.

Hi guys! Would this work in conjunction with an EQ?
I love Viper4Android, unfortunately we can't get it to work for our device as we haven't got root. Noozxoide works great, however, I don't have high-end Headphones..Viper used to compensate for the loss in some audio spectrum, but I can't do that with Nooz, so I'd love to tweak it a bit using another EQ.
TIA
Does this work with Marshmallow? I'm gonna try it tomorrow
HI - I have a Pixel XL and like a lot about the phone, but I LOVE the photo app for the Galaxy S7 or Note 5. Is there any way to load the Samsung Photo apk on a pixel? If so, any tips are appreciated.
Same request here.. If anyone can help..
I wish we could, I have been trying to. The problem is, Google use to primarily function as the developer that produces software to operate on all of the devices running Android, so if you had a Samsung phone you could install any application for the most part off the play store or published by Google. We are now however in uncharted waters where users now own a Google device and are looking to run software from another manufacturer. Unlike Google Samsung doesn't give there software away for free as open source, they sell their software as part of the package in buying one of their devices.
It's a bad situation since Samsung built their photo gallery from Google's com.android.gallery.3d, but than stopped developing the app all together once they decided to merge their Google photos app with the standard device gallery. It was at that point that Samsung developed the app further, adding all the features such as playing video with the devices screen off, advanced tile viewing above 3 photos per line ect, ect.

hi there, i used quickpic. seems to work with the album flow.
Hi,. I deleted a bunch of bloatware when I first set up device. I can't remember if I deleted and equaliser or audio app. Can you guys check if you have one? If I have deleted one, is there anyway I can get it back?
Cheers
To my knowledge I didn't notice any Equalizer ...So don't blame it on you ?
Cheers, good to know.
Same here I can only find 13 apps to be pre-installed and no audio app :silly:
This is the kind of place they saved money. No firmware level control of global audio settings. Only app level control with android standard API. It's essentially a Moto standard ROM. Hence why we have identical annoying fingerprint vibration that cannot be dissabled. Same as Motorola's. It's a Moto z play in a different packackage with a bigger battery . Cheers for checking about the apps!!
Hi,
I recently got a S21 FE and while I'm pretty happy with it, I feel like the speakers are far below acceptable.
Up until now I owned an, by now 5 years old, Huawei mate 10 plus. It was a middle class phone with normal speakers - nothing fancy. However the sound quality is still much better. It got some "Stereo+" setting that only activates in landscape + certain volume but it improves it a lot.
Since there is no additional hardware build into it, it has to be done by software. Is there a way to get a similar effect on Samsung phones? I tried the build in equalizer but it didn't do much nor did it really improve things.

Could you explain why not? I do not need the exact feature, I just want a similar sound which should be possible with equalizers or something similar, or not?

Codecs , replacement and tweaks like this I know. Equaliser settings not enough https://github.com/Briclyaz/NLSound_module_QCom example
In the settings for the tone:
Switch off "Dolby Atmos"
Set the Equalizer to "Jazz"
Like this you will have a much more warm speaker sound.
Additionally you can try Poweramp Equalizer from google play store. It's got a load of features for the equalizer.
I'm using Wavelet https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pittvandewitt.wavelet
It's a good alternative to Viper without root
Also jetAudio player has a lot of audio settings
