I have already tried a OnePlus 8 pro protector, but that protector is just ever so slightly too tall and not wide enough. It is 6.78" after all...
Does anybody have any ideas on what I can try next, so we can find a solution to this screen protector situation... I like the look of curved, but I absolutely hate the hassle it causes with screen protectors.
Does anybody have any suggestions... I'm willing to buy and try until we find one that works.
WHY put a protector over Gorilla Glass Victus?
I gave up screen protectors!

Because some of us like to use a protector, and the glass will eventually scratch... Especially the oleophobic coating. If you don't have anything constructive to add, then why bother. Go and be happy with your phone without a protector....

My only concern is it is 2mm wider than the p6 pro... So probably won't fit. But I'll give it a go.

Bailed out on protectors back in the Oneplus 7T days and rapidly realized I was wasting my time with a protector. Never used one and my 8T and zero scratches over the last year. Hope the tech only gets better, so I for one see no reason for it. But.. This is an opinion.

Exactly! I'm tempted with every phone to add a screen protector but Gorilla Glass Victus is also said to surpass Gorilla Glass 6 in terms of durability. Corning states that Victus is two times more scratch-resistant than Gorilla Glass 6 and up to four times scratch-resistant than competitors.

I REALLY AM LOOKING FOR A GLASS SCREEN PROTECTOR, I PREFER THEM. SO WOULD YOU PLEASE STOP INTERUPTING THE THREAD WITH YOUR PREFERENCES.
I have 2 on the way, Super sheildz glass and a basic tpu from amazin. Considering how scratched even the glass protectors get, and I do not kick my phones around, I want to be able to sell it mint and You cannot do that if it doesn't have a case and screen on it from day one.
I get top buck for my phones because of that. Your MMV but it's a cheap investment. IntelliGlass has been sold and that was my fave so no screens from them and I'll be damned if I'll pay 40$ for one from Spigen even if it's the best, ill wait till it's half off.
There will be more entries into the market but it's limited right now. I'll post back on how it goes.
There seems to be a problem with the fingerprint reader not working when a glass screen protector is fitted, the one i fitted to my Pro was absolutely rubbish and pinged off so i didnt get to see the problem but the Spigen on i put on my wifes 6 means her fingerprint scanner doesn't work correctly now.

This. I don't see any scratches on my 2 year old 4 XL. Screen protectors were a pain in the ass to apply in the old days when the screens were flat. But now, not only the screen is curved as fuᴄk, but there's also that on-screen fingerprint reader that is already not great. Over my dead body am I dealing with the nightmare that would be a screen protector on this thing.

I get it bro... Is using the finger print unlock important to you? Every glass protector I've seen (on Amazon) the title either says "doesn't support finger print reader" or the reviews say that. Since your phone already has glass screen (please don't tell at me for saying that ) would you consider one of those plastic screen protectors? That's what I'm thinking about getting. Yes I'm answering your question.
Also you spelled interrupting wrong. You forgot the second R.

I'm interested. Once applied on is it easy to remove/replace?
Also, what happens if dropped flat on face? Assuming the tempered glass cover will shatter, will it protect/prevent the original s3 glass from shattering?

hah looks like you answered your own question
I like this but have some questions
How is input when using the screen? Works the same?
Is there any type of rainbow effect
Would using the home bottom have problems or is it thin enough to not be noticeable.
Is the side that goes on the screen a first and dirty magnet when applying?
I'm not a case person so this is very intriguing.

Screen works 99% of the time. Only time you will notice this is if you're playing a game that requires precise touches.

Not at all

Shouldn't be a problem, I'd need to confirm this when the samples arrive.

I think what he was asking is if the side that is on the phones screen is a fingerprint and dirt magnet.
I am very interested in this. How difficult is the installation?
if this is anything like the sgp glas i have on my galaxy s2, i'm definitely interested.
does it have the same feel and hardness?
shipping is not as competitive as other places but i won't mind if it is a good product.
Is this similar to the Zagg screen protectors? I've used them on my captivate and loved the feel and how they never come off
I tried to use the coupon code and it said the coupon code has reached the maximum redemption limit. Guess I won't be getting one.... unless you can fix that

Nope, I've had no problems with it at all. Installation is extremely easy- peel off the protective film, align along the speaker, align with home button, and you're done.

Pretty much the same thing, just a different company.
We ship using reliable and fast methods, most other companies use First Class Mail which usually takes longer. For a few extra bucks you'll get your item faster.

Well, I had to learn the lesson the hard way. It was night time and my niece wanted to catch some crawdads from the small creek in my brother's back yard. I put my phone in the pocket that had my keys (grr!) and crawled along the creekbed catching some crawdads for the kids. Well, the next day I noticed a small hairline scratch about 1cm long. Bummer! So my previously perfect M9 picked up it's first noticeable defect. :crying:
I read that the tempered glass screen covers will tend to make small scratches less visible and provide protection from future scratches. The one I am looking at is 0.33mm thick, so it will still create a bit of a "lip" at the top and bottom of the phone, but the case I use should cover the sides. I never put a screen protector on my M7 and after 1.5 years it was still in very good condition. Perhaps I should just be more careful in the future.
A couple questions:
Does anybody have experience using them with the M9?
Are they easy to remove?
Worth $10 and the hassle?
Thanks
Tried Tempered Glass on my G3 and never looked back.
Unparalleled screen clarity, easy to remove, easily worth the money. Just fit it slowly and carefully
Can't comment on it covering scratches though
I would say the money is worth it. I have one on my M9. They are easy to install just follow the steps. I personally, even if the glass protector on, never put my phone in a pocket with my keys or change or anything. the only thing in front right pocket is my phone and nothing else. this is the one I used http://www.amazon.com/Tech-Armor-Premium-Ballistic-Protector/dp/B00U6EZGCC hope this helps

I use tech armor as well and used cailifu on my s5. Both work great. And haven't gotten a single scratch. Even when trying. Plus the warranty is awesome. My wife's broke 3 of them and I haven't even paid shipping for the replacements. And her phone still looks brand new.

The first thing I did when getting my M9 was to order a Spigen GlasTr screen protector. Though I tend to be careful with my phone, and I have a Seido case/holster, if it weren't for the Spigen glass protector, I would have surely broken my screen. I accidentally 'bobbled' it and the phone landed screen down on my (tile) countertop, chipping the protector. Had it not been there, I would definitely have a chipped or broken screen.
I can't say if applying a protector to your screen will help. I would just rely on the 'Uh,Oh' protection and request a new phone... and then immediately put a screen protector on the replacement. Yes, they're very easy to remove, but not so easy to install. See my guide here: CLICKY - it might help.
Just my two cents.

Solid feedback. I try to not keep the phone in my pocket as well, but given that I would be leaning over water, the shirt pocket (a common place for it) was out of the question and I didn't have convenient spot to set it down (outside around a fire). The good news is that the scratch is very minor (I've stopped noticing it) and I have a feeling that the screen protector will diminish its appearance. I'm going to hold onto the Uh Oh protection in the event that something really bad happens.
I'll review your guide for tips on the install.
Thanks again!

Not just that but thankfully HTC haven't curved their screens, so there is no halo effect, for example, my last phone the Note 4 had the halo effect, absolutely horrible design floor.
I had the 9H brand on my M8 for the whole year and definitely worth it, so I ordered the 9H again same day I ordered my Dev Edition and installed it soon as I opened the M9 Box.
But I can't speak on the removal as I have never had to take it off for nothing..

as above. It's just like you're using the standard glass screen of the phone. I was worried that due to its slight increase in thickness it would perhaps affect the usage of my dot view case (being able to make calls to last few callers etc) but it works as it should. perfectly definately recommend them over plastic ones any day.
You guys have convinced me. I am going for the tempered glass next time I pass the shop.

Seems like a top class solution, I would like to try, but so many questions, hope you don't mind.
What was the procedure you used, how did you get the glue to spread evenly? Did you cover the whole screen or just strategic parts? Did it affect screen sensitivity? How long is the curing process? How long has the protector been on your phone since application? Does it stop sides lifting when case fitted? What problems did you encounter?
Don't mean to impose on your time, but is it possible to do a step by step guide or vid, I'm sure many people here on xda would very much appreciate it.
Thanks in advance. Even if you're not able to do any of this, your input on this vexing issue is more than appreciated.
There's already a video someone else made. Go to YouTube and search for S8 screen protector LOCA. The only difference is I used an actual UV light instead of setting it out in the sun.
The first TGSP was on my phone for a couple weeks, then I dropped my keys on it and scratched it. This new one has been on for about a week now.
As far as problems? The install is messy, but other than that no issues at all.

Have you possibly tried reading any of the threads including what I see is the massively long thread about screen protectors in this sub-forum? Asking the question that's been answered without doing the research yourself isn't really useful and just adds more of the same messages.
Pitaka everything. Ive tried multiple "top rated" cases and protectors from amazon and pitaka has been the only one thats actually quality and actually makes sense of what its purpose is.

good luck on finding tempered glass that doesn't have one of many issues.
I tried a number and all failed, so I went with the old flexible film protection. easy to put on, protects the screen from scratches etc, and entire thing sticks very well. it comes already shaped as the screen as they are the official Samsung screen protection and you can get them here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XDJ6CT2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I rlyyyy prefer the tempered glass one. I do have insurance (cracked screen= $150 to fix), but I'd rather not have to use that. Tempered glass screen protectors have saved my ass countless times in the past with previous phones, and from what I've read, this one is even more fragile than past phones. So IMO, film is not the way to go unfortunately.

It's still only edge adhesive however he says it's fairly strong and hadn't come off in a week of use and he's going to report back again after a month. Also he says it doesn't effect screen sensitivity what so ever.
The edge adhesive worries me still, also they misspelled "friendly" on the box. I wish it was on Amazon to see reviews since their site has no review section. Product link is in his drop down info or whatever you call it on YouTube.

It is case-friendly for me, works great with the case I am using (which is found here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hard-Case-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S8-S8-Plus-Shockproof-Kids-Protective-Back-Cover/263003430183?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649)
hope that helps.

So IMO, film is not the way to go unfortunately.

not sure why you think tempered glass is going to protect your screen against breaks anymore than film considering it is the case you use that would determine that. the rear glass is fragile, but the front glass is actually not
do your research from users who actually tried many of the glass protectors. like I said, if it wasnt for the film protection I have now, I would be looking at other phones and take the loss.
Exactly. Screen protectors help with scratches, but NOT breaks.
That is complete fake science, and anyone that says they help with shatters is just wrong.
If you've had your tempered glass screen protector break, but not your screen, it is simply because the screen protector is much thinner. Your screen would not have broken without the screen protector on that same drop either...

So far I've had 3 screen protectors on my device when I dropped it. The protector shattered, stuck on the device, but the device's screen didn't shatter. So... I'm here to trump your "fake science" with real facts. Screen protectors, at least glass ones for me, worked great to preserve the integrity of the actual glass on the device from spidering and breaking.
Actual conversation I had with some guy who was bragging about how he was so proud that he had his third crapple screen replaced:
Him: I found this really cool place that replaced my screen for $60
Me: I'm just careful
My "three" incidents were with three different devices in over 15 years. I marvel at these people I see on the subway with completely shattered screens. What are people doing that they cannot hold on their devices? Do people do NOT get that these are upwards of $500 devices? It's like not caring that you're driving your car into a brick wall and driving around with a completely smashed front-end of your car.

I've had this for a month or two. I like it, but it is very easily scratched. I had scratches within 10 minutes with busy my switchblade key in the same pocket

I cracked my S8 screen that cost me $200 to fix.
Now I am using Gobukee full adhesive glass already for several months. So far so good.
I need a good tempered glass screen protector
Ounier Full Coverage Bubble-Free Screen Protector as it was one of the first brands to come up when searching for screen protectors for Samsung Galaxy S9. My phone is fairly new and I needed to have it fully protected first before I include it in my busy daily routine. I’m the kind of person who chooses convenience over price, but as this product was recommended by a friend (for his S8), I gave it a chance. Besides, It’s really great that the pack has 2 screen protectors; the easier to change, the better. I’ve also had bad experiences with other screen protectors for my old phones as they sometimes hinder with some of the phone’s features, like the double tap, the sensors, etc. Since my friend can’t recall any troubles at all with this protector, this eased my mind a bit with what it had to offer.
I’ve always admired how my friend’s phone looked so seamless and smooth, it always fooled me thinking that his screen protector came with the phone when he purchased it. To my surprise, he installed it himself. Now I’m not a bad friend, but this guy can get excruciatingly stupid at times. I thought if someone as dense as him had managed to somehow not mess up with wet installation, how hard can it be?
I got the screen protectors, a squeegee, a tiny piece of cloth, a manual, and a small bottle spray solution. I’m the old-fashioned type, I never even knew that “wet installation” is actually a thing if not for my buddy. All these items looked so weird to me. I’ll never understand how people come up with this stuff but if it works, then it's fine with me.
Whitestone dome is the best one I've used. It saved my screen countless times before it finally broke. Worked well with all my cases.
Was looking to see if anything newer has been released bit I guess not.
After seeing a lot of posts in the screen protector thread about there not being any good glass screen protectors, I just wanted to share a few photos with you guys of my phone with the screen protector on it. See link below. I misaligned the protector from top to bottom so there are a few spots on the bottom that didn't stick completely; those are my fault

You can get it here:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B076...SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=somi+pixel+2&psc=1
Please note that the description says the protector doesn't fully cover the screen; I don't know if it said that when I bought it or not but they MIGHT have changed the design. If you bought one of these recently, please comment
Well, that indeed doesn't cover the whole screen. It has big gap on the sides.
Does it has dot matrix?
How is the responsiveness of the touch screen?
Is it easy to install? Do you need to apply any kind of wet solution?
Thanks!
It isn't a dot matrix, touch responsiveness is normal, install is like any other glass screen protector (no liquid, just stick it on and smooth out the bubbles)
And sorry if I wasn't clear, I meant it covers the whole OLED panel
Dang, doesn't ship to Canada

Ya, really disappointed that they don't. Really need something to protect the screen before my Pixel 2 order arrives.
Spigen seems to be releasing their version of the Pixel 2 tempered glass on Dec 13th.
No idea if it will actually fit to the screen well or not though.
For me the IQ shield works great, it is also user friendly for the installation part.

No problem! I went through 4 or 5 before I found one that works, Amazon is a huge mess with these things right now so I figured someone could benefit from my experience haha
