Non VZW Pixel 2 cannot be OEM unlocked - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Hey XDA! Recently got a Pixel 2 from a friend, and was planning on rooting when I found out OEM unlocking was greyed out. Which is strange, because I know this is not a Verizon version. Using the BYOD page of Verizon like some threads say brings up this:

}
So it's definitely not a Verizon model. Any chance to get bootloader unlocked so I can root? Thanks.
Note: Phone is running the latest security update.

Okay, so weird thing, OEM unlocking option just ungreyed out itself, yet it still cannot be bootloader unlocked. Strange.
EDIT: After trying fastboot, option just disabled itself again.

You cannot go by that BYOD page. Run the device IMEI through an IMEI check website instead. I'm willing to lay odds it IS a Verizon device, in which case you're f*****.

I want to help unlock the bootloader.
Where do i start from?

New T-Mobile 10 unlocked already?

I decided to give the HTC 10 a try and picked it up from T-Mobile's website, I had no intentions to unlock it but decided to click on the "device unlock" T-Mobile software included in the phone and to my surprise the app stated that the device is already permanently unlocked.
I clicked on "history" in the menus and there's at least 8 unsuccessful tries to unlock the phone until 6-15 when device was successfully unlocked.
Is this normal? Is T-Mobile shipping this device unlocked? My phone was brand new Factory sealed and it did appear to be a used one bit.

Seems like someone used that phone before because no, they don't ship unlocked.
If the account is older than 40 days you can unlock fully paid off devices quickly. Longest I waited to unlock was the G4 and that was 6 days I waited.

Thats kind of crazy

Does this mean bootloader is unlockable?

So I've got a Pixel XL I got from Bell here in Canada. I kinda assumed the bootloader wouldn't be unlockable the way direct from Google phones are and thought I would need to use the Verizon unlock method. I was gonna do this today before downloading the November update just to be sure I didn't lose the ability. Well I thought I would try it the regular way first with "fastboot oem unlock". Anyway I get the option on my phone to select yes or no if I want to unlock after putting in the comand. Do the Verizon versions do this or does that mean the Bell version is bootloader unlockable out of the box with no special expolit? If so I don't think I'll unlock the bootloader right now because of the required whipe and I was just doing it so I didn't lose the ability.

You should be able to just unlock it.
Sweet! That's great to hear. Bell didn't mess with the bootloader.

Unlocking Bootloader just in case...

Hi All,
I don't have my phone yet but upon looking at all the complexities of unlocking/rooting, I'm thinking I want to unlock it just in case I decide to dive in more after I've become accustomed to the phone and learned what I would like it to be able to do (beyond what it already can). I honestly will probably only root and maybe flash a kernel. Don't think I need a ROM (we'll see though... I used to be a very flash-happy person in my past...) I will probably root it as well, but I'm not even sure about that just yet.
So my question is this: is it simple to just unlock the bootloader to make sure it's unlocked for down the road, if I decide to customize more? Also, is it quick/easy to root, if I decide to do that as well up front? If so, does rooting just affect Android Pay?
Go to the Pixel XL parent forum:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl
And do a search for thread titles containing "Verizon" to find all your answers.

Did the same. Just unlocked, flashed boot to root via fastboot and a kernel via fastboot. Still don't have twrp on mine.

How to unlock bootloader of Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Canada (G988W)

Hi, I bought a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Canada (G988W) several months ago. I can not unlock the bootloader because of the missing "OEM Unlock" in the development mode.
I tried the method on Youtube such as turning off auto time and date and changing the date to half a year before the actual date, but it did not work.
I had even asked for help from several merchants who did rom service of samsung mobile phones; however, they all told me they were not able to do it because of my software version of G988W.
Can anyone help me?

Yeah sorry pal, S20 Series with U/U1/W model numbers are locked, and cannot be unlocked (at least not officially).
There are some paid services claiming to unlock it, however, it is not recommend, for there won't be a lot of development. Beautiful device though.
