Havoc OS: Why my internal storage now is 16 GB only - Redmi Note 8 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I was using the official stock ROM of Xiaomi and rooted it .. but I wanted to try different ROM that is not of Xiaomi, and I choose Havoc OS to try this time.
My device storage is 32 GB .. so with stock ROM it was shown as ~22 GB from the file manager .. after I installed Havoc OS, it is shown now as 16 GB .. is that Okay? I thought I should have more space with Havoc ROM than stock ROM without all Xiaomi stuff .. did I corrupt something or Havoc ROM is heavy anyway and I should replace it with lightweight good-reputation ROM?

Go to Settings/storage and see the total storage
Havoc is 1gb at best and even with Gapps it's still smaller than Miui
If you have Mixplorer it can show you how much space the rom is taking like this :

loopypalm, it says it is 16 GB in settings .. it cannot be .. I have the box of this phone and I remember when I bought it .. it is 32 GB storage.
I don't have this app, I am searching for alternative to get this info.

also, on a fresh havoc install it showed 7 GB free space.

loopypalm
I couldn't find any file explorer to show more info .. but I tried several apps that list device information .. all I tested showing that my internal storage is 10 GB, except one app I took some screenshots from it and as you can see it says "Flash Size" as 32 GB, but the partitions tab not showing details about all 32 GB:

Wat ? Havoc is on some ****
do a clean flash with format
if still show incorrect size use one of those

And here is what I am saying about other apps showing my internal storage is 10 GB, I hope I didn't do any mistakes:

loopypalm, you mean I should use another custom ROM if problem still exist? I am thinkin of ArrowOS, what do you think?

Alright loopypalm .. thank you for your help .. I will do my best following your notes and get back here with the result.

@loopypalm,
I works now and the storage is 22GB as it was with the stock ROM.
I didn't have time to try havoc os, so I went with ArrowOS.
I found one issue, SafetyNet's attestation failed and actually I didn't get from Google what is the use of it but I used to check it and never failed.
I followed steps in this video:
After I enabled MagiskHide and installed "BusyBox" & "MagiskHide Props Config" then rebooted, SafetyNet works successfully ..
In the video he installed terminal emulator, and started to do something with props command, I stopped here and thought to ask if I should go further or no need for that.

SGYPRO - B5510 New Custom Rom

hi
i found this rom from CM Forum and share in there i hope you like it
Made a great rom for the GT-B5510:
It is a modified stock rom with these features:
-Rom is debloated, without anyting broken and is still very Samsung.
-All software in the ROM is up-to-date
-Yahoo crap and thinkfree office removed(I needed tha space in rom, and a much better Kingsoft office is 100% free on market)
-Rom has a CUSTOM KERNEL supporting o.a. Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, SWAP Support, IPTables support (For droidwall of avast), inti.d support, wifi sleep bug fixed.
-Rooted (includes latest version of SU)
-Inlcudes Root explorer with support for symbolic-links
-Adfree updated version of Blackmart in ROM
-Included a version of ClockWorkMod recovery that works perfectly on GT-B5510 can be used to make backups. Installing the rom is a easy as restoring the backup I made of my rom(user data wiped) same as flashing with odin only a lot easier and can be done from SD card!
I also have the stock CELG1 rom that can be flashed with ODIN 1.85 and a tool called Odinatrix that can split any file from Samfirmware in 3 files Odin can use.
Before you would install this rom you need to make 3 partitions on a CLASS 10 A brand Sandisk, Samsung or SONY, micro SD card.
Else swapping would destroy your SD card real soon!
Use ubuntu to make these:
1st partition FAT32 (total sdcard size minus 5 GB)
2nd partition Ext3 (4GB)
3rd partition LinuxSwap (1GB and do not give a name, make empty)
Swap is default enabled, you don't have to do anyting if you make the partitions and install my ROM, swap will be enabled. You can chek by running terminal emulator and type "free"
This rom is extremely fast, you won't believe the revamp. Your phone will be a Linux PC!
When you have it working:
Then go to market and install:
-LinkToSD from my friend Bullent, this allows you to install many apps.
-Storage analyzer (So you know what takes space in the /data/data folder)
-Next Launcher
After this, you will forget Cyanogen soon since now you can customize and your launcher is fully 3D
I just need a place to put it online, any suggestions where is a good place?
If you have an A brand Micro SD, and want my rom now you could contact me: mobile DOT unclexnl AT gmail DOT com
I could add them to my google drive, I think I can Email you the files then.
I want this complete toolbox for the GT-B5510 online somewhere, who knows a good place for me to put it on? Where I'm able to update the rom with new version I will make.
Forget Cyanbogen, it is a deodexed rom that means, all dalvik-cache will be on internal storage, with only 180MB of that, it's not fun!
My rom is maximum odexed (not more room in rom for more odex) this way as much as possible from that 180MB of storage stays free.

Color OS

Here is the color OS i ported.
Download from here.

I ported it from some chinese developer, his name is not clear! It was in chinese and this was the only rom I could see that had a color os port working well.
Install from your recovery.

please provide the proper detail like SS and also give credit to other developer whose tools and work are used in it with full installation detail and rom detail

Hi...
ROM tested working fine, only question is how to install Play store and Google apps. Please give GAAPS link or regular JB GAAPS zip will do the job.
I m only testing this ROM. Not using it as daily driver because it is JB based. Any way great work...credit to you and to your unknown Chinese friend....

Any idea about the issue.

yes , i have also faced the issue of booting.what i feel is ...it is due to xposed framework...coz when i uninstall the xposed....the rom is running fine and smooth....
yes it is based on 4.2 version but ....i can say, this is the best rom ...and it can also be more better if some bugs will be removed.
Some improvements which i have done in my phone is
-volume is much loud,i had reduced it through engineer mode.
-xposed installed but few modules are installed...there is no use of gravitybox.
-flashed jb gapps.
-copied some apps from different rom like calender, calculator, music, email etc.
I tried flashing this ROM, no issues, but from the first boot was all in Chinese. Is there something we can do about it, make it english? Screenshots would help.
Running LeWa OS and not very happy with it. I might flash the one with Hive as I need more RAM available on my phone. Thanks in advance

More instructions also here

1- You must be rooted and you must have TWRP 3.0.0
Instructions on how to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wileyfox-swift/general/twrp-3-0-0-0-t3311572
2- Your primary ROM is the one you are using now
3- Download and install the below Dual Patcher
https://cloud.mail.ru/public/BGux/BDb7PSxUp
4- Give SuperSU rights to the application and if requested to install the kernel say yes.
4- Go to the "Patch ROM" to select a file, choose your device, and the slot where the firmware will be installed. I chose data slot since I had problems with extsd. Do the same for gapps if needed by the rom choosing the same slot
5- Reboot into recovery (TWRP 3)
6- Install the patched firmware and patched gapps if needed.
7- After flashing reboot ( no need to wipe anything)
8- You will be rebooted into the new Rom
9- Install in the new ROM the Dual Patcher
10- Open the Dual patcher and you can select from the ROM selection the rom you want to reboot
That's all. Now you can log in to another system by switching the firmware in the tab "Firmware" Using Dual Boot Patcher.
You can also add a third rom.
I have
Primary the stock Cyanogen
Second Temasek’s Rom and
Third Miui 7
Also read in the xda thread on how you can share the applications
Good Luck and I am not responsible for any damage to your device.

Anyone using multiboot with Android N Developer Preview [DEV][N][DP2][CRACKLING]? I see no chance to get this running, because TWRP wont find the N-System (because the system uses squashfs file compression which seems to be uncompatible with TWRP) and so i cant get root working in Android N.
Slim6+cm13= awesomeness!
Everything works great!
Can you do this with an old OS? eg Nougat + Marshmallow?
Has anyone been able to use multiboot on Cosmic/Cardinal/crDroid (all 8.1) and LineageOS 14.1 or 15.0? Mine bricks every single time, I flash the ROM successfully but when I reboot it vibrates 3 times and won't boot till I reflash either of the ROMs as the primary

SDcard as internal storage in Redmi note 8 AOSP

How to use sdcard as internal storage on my redmi note 8, currently i'm using PixelOS rom. when I go to the setup settings for the sdcard there are two options, using the sdcard as portable storage and as extra phone storage. but when I choose as extra phone storage the formatting process stops at 40% and an error appears "attempt to invoke virtual method 'int java.util.arraylist.size()' on a null object reference". is there a way to solve this error or use sdcard as internal in this aosp?

If you have Magisk, you could try this module: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/4078731/ (look for its latest version on page #7).
It helped me solve a similar problem on another device -- a tablet, not a RN8.

Looks like it's a problem from PixelOS rom, I tried to use another rom and format sdcard it works fine.
Thank you everyone for helping me
Partition your SD Card for installing apps and storing other files at same time.
Make sure you have a root shell. If not, root your device with Magisk first.
Start a terminal, and run su to switch to root shell ($-->#) .
Partition your sdcard. Follow the instructions below.
1. Check your sdcard number.
Code:
sm list-disks adoptable
You will get the output like this:
Remember the disk number for further use.
2. Run the partition command to seperate your sd card space. Some space are used to store apps and their data. And the rest space keeps as external sdcard space.
Use this command to seperate your sd card:
Code:
sm partition "disk_number" mixed "reserved_percent"
Replace "disk_number" with your real disk number. Also you can control how much space goes for storing apps and their data and how much you want to reserved. For example you want 70% of SD Card for storing apps and 30% for original external storage, then "reserved_percent" is 30.
Code:
Example 2: Want 60% of sdcard goes to store apps, 40% as external storage.
sm partition "disk number" mixed 40
Press ENTER to execute your command. All data on your sdcard will be destroyed. Back up all data on sdcard first if needed.
Right now the sdcard has the ability to store apps. Move your apps to sdcard as you like.
Voila!
EDIT: I made a detailed guide here. Check it for more details. Press "like" button if helped you.

I'm still using android 11. To fix this, I use link2sd plus with magisk, until now this method works well

I did it, A11 on a MTCE device

Hardware:
Isudar PX6-VW0907
Software:
SDDiskTool_v1.59
ha3_11_rk3399_11.0_烧录包(20220316).zip
HCT8 ANDROID 11 OTA UPDATE (20220412 )
I created a bootable SD card using SDDisktool and the image and flashed the A11.
After that I had this picture:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
Now I imported the HTC8 Update.zip and the error was gone:
The main reason for flashing was that you can no longer import Chrome updates with the Hal firmware.
At first glance, I really miss the lock screen.
I haven't tested more yet.
Be careful, do it at your own risk.
I had to try several different SD cards and storage adapters before it worked.
I don't understand ... why is it so important to update chrome?

Nothing, but I have automatic updates turned on and if the browser stops working when I need it, that's not nice.
did you use the img with the HA3 launcher right?
Can you please tell the options of the SDDiskTool?
Have you choose Upgrade Firmware or the SD boot?
Also how many gigabyte was the sd card you are using?
My problem is that my unit cant locate the bootable sd card and I cant upgrade the bootloader for android 11. I get black screen. I have succeed to upgrade the bootloader from 9 to 10 but now its not working. I am using the same docking station HD100 and the same sd cards. I start to change the uboot file of tool. I cant understand where the problem is... whatever.
I will wait for the developers to create something more stable for the bootloader.
Thanks anyway

Yes the HA3 Image.
Firmware upgrade.
32GB Samsung.

Okay its the method with the USB A-A cable.
Test after 2 days:
Google apps work, probably because Play Protect is certified.
Dialing with MTCDDialer works, but not with "Hey Google".
Unfortunately no lock screen.
I can connect with WIFI WPA2/WPA3, not possible with Hal firmware.
It was already possible with the latest A10 update (HCT7r_rk3399_10.0_ota(20211012)).
Otherwise everything has remained the same so far.
I flashed the Hal firmware again.

Any chance of checking if "this feature is not available on this device" is showing when trying to enter "ethernet" on the headunit's settings? I've got the same head unit as you (but with stock rom) and I'm trying to use a 3g/4g usb modem with a sim card for internet acces but with no luck..
I can't say that, I'm back on A10.
