Hey guys was wondering about flashing my HTC Touch Diamond, But I want a decent ROM.
Something that's not too packed up full of junk, Easy to use and a better performance.
Also maybe a guide to unlocking/debranding this phone along with a flash guide if that's not too much?
cheers.

From one newbie to another, you should read the sticky posts... they are full guides and information about flashing your phone's ROM / Radio etc.
The forum 'Search' facility is your friend, it like's to be used. That's what I did and found all I needed to know about the available ROM's and Flashing process without having to ask a single question.
The New World ROM introduced a much-improved version of the Open Firmware interpreter, version 3.0, which added many missing features, fixed most of the bugs from earlier versions, and had the capability to run CHRP boot scripts. The Toolbox ROM was embedded inside a CHRP script in the System Folder called "Mac OS ROM", along with a short loader stub and a copy of the Happy Mac icon (in Mac OS X 10.2 and higher, this was replaced with a silhouette of the Apple logo on a blank gray screen) suitable for display from Open Firmware. Once the ROM was loaded from disk, the Mac boot sequence continued as usual. As before, Open Firmware could also run a binary boot loader, and version 3.0 added support for ELF objects as well as the XCOFF files versions 1.0.5 and 2.0 supported. Also, version 3.0 (as well as some of the last releases of version 2.x, starting with the PowerBook 3400) officially supported direct access to the Open Firmware command prompt from the console (by setting the auto-boot? variable to false from Mac OS, or by holding down Command-Option-O-F at boot).

Ok, so what I want (and this may be a fairly common refrain at this point) is just a typical Android install, none of the Samsung custom stuff.
Does such a thing exist? I have read, basically, no.
I don't have the handset yet. Haven't had an Android handset since G1 so am in a learning phase, have learned lots from forums in recent days re ROMs etc. But please bear in mind that I'm still trying to understand.
So, what is the reason there is no "master" stock/vanilla Android I can just download and put on the phone? Is it because each has to be customised for different hardware?
Can someone lay out the steps necessary to make the Galaxy S as close to original-2.2 as possible?
The reason you don't have a vanilla Android distro for most phones is due to the specific phone drivers. You can very well download the android source code, but without the drivers, there is no point! I know samsung has open sourced the code for Android 2.1, but I'm not sure if they have done the same for the drivers. For now the best alternative is to install a regular firmware, then work backwards from there, removing the bloat. Of course, this is just my understanding! If there is indeed a way to instal vanilla Android on the Galaxy S, would love to hear that
Dear All,
I have recently got a new gts2. This is my first time using and Android phone. So may be you can guess that I am pretty naive and amateur in terms of all the technical stuff.
I have some questions that I would like someone to answer. (Although the questions might be very silly and simple for some).
What is lightening rom?
Should I flash or stay on what I have
How do I change to lightening rom (the procedure)
Which one is the best
What is Kernel and can I flash any kernel?
my android version is 2.3.3
kernel is 2.6.35.7 - i9100xxwkdd (dont know if this helps)
gingerbread.jpkg2
A detail reply would be really appreciated.
Thanks
1. The name of the rom. Called this because it is claimed to be fast as lightening.
2. If you're satisfied with it, then stay. If not, then change.
3. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
4. No answer. Reason: Different people have different opinions/preferences. I may not like one which you may like.
5. Did a quick search and found this: "An operating system kernel is the piece or pieces of software that is responsible for servicing resource requests from applications and the management of resources. A kernel has facilities to receive resource requests and grant access to resources such as allocating space for a new file or creating a network connection. To generalize, kernels use a system call (or syscall) interface to handshake with applications."
No you cannot flash any kernel. You have to flash a kernel made specifically for your device.
Thanks my friend. I really appreciate your efforts for replying to my question.
With the release of Xiaomi's Windows 10 rom, is there a possibility that this could be ported over to phones such as the LG G3 with the same chipsets, chips and ram??
Would definitely breath new life into the device and something i would be willing to donate for.
It would definitely be a possibility, but devs would have to be willing to put a lot of time and work into learning the structure of the new os and adapting it to the dissimilar hardware between the g3 and the mi4
I was guessing the same thing but the first emerging problem is the following (please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm here to learn):
when you extract this specific rom, you find out about 20 partitions (unlike other lumias)..and it's almost the same number of partitions that an android rom for xiaomi has.
So my guessing is: xiaomi's bootloader hasn't changed, it's the same for windows 10 mobile and for android. They build a rom (probably working on the NT kernel of windows) suitable for this specific device. Of course lg's devices manage the memory with a different partition scheme..so, if I haven't written wrong things (otherwise correct me), to make a port is necessary to have an in dept knowledge of window's kernel (a not so simple task since it's closed source) in order to change *at least* the partition scheme and to make it suitable with lg's bootloader. People who can manage with this task, as far as I know, are not too much..
Hey team,
I'm very new to working with smart phone bootloaders and flashing different ROM's. Currently I have only ever played with ADB a little bit, have never come close to flashing another ROM/firmware, let alone rooting.
Here's the thing, is that I've very interested in running a couple operating systems on my S7 Active, however it seems that if I am on Oreo, this process becomes much more difficult.
I come here for 2 reasons, first is that I need points to ask questions in other forums. I figure here is the best place to start on getting answers and where to look for information.
My second reason is so that I may get some help / information on how to get my S7 Active set up for using at least 2 operating systems - Regular Oreo, as well as Android's PostMarketOS. I am a new user, so I cannot post a link, however you can find it at reddit r/PostMarketOS. I am fully aware that I will likely need to build my own version of PostMarketOS. I'm not here for help with this, so much as I am here for getting help to prepare my S7 Active for this process.
So, I suppose to start, my questions are as follows:
1. Am I stuck with Oreo?
2. While I have unlocked OEM in developer settings, I feel that there's more to unlocking the bootloader - is there information for Oreo on how to do this?
3.I understand that there is root for Android N (7.0), however I have read that you cannot downgrade to (7.0). Furthermore, I am not sure if this would even be necessary.
To give a bit more information, to create the PostMarketOS for Android, it must be created using Linux, and I have a link to post, however I am a new user, the guide for creating PostMarketOS is on the sidebar of Reddit.
Hopefully I can get some help, but I would be happy with just some resources on where to go about starting/finding information. I'm a total noob in this regard, but I am a quick learner and motivated to get my S7 Active to not run so laggy... Plus it would be fun to use 2 operating systems
If you need any other information, I'm happy to find and give it.
