[Q] samsung drivers wont install

hey.
i followed the guide for rooting my galaxy nexus.
driver installation was alright, and then i switched to fastboot mode (green android) and then the device manager didn't recognize my gn (unknown device).
tried uninstalling and then reinstalling, tried "updating" it with various rar files i found on this forum and ofcourse i tries pdanet.
none of them worked. it was always unknown device.
then i had no choice and i removed the battery to boot it normal.
suggestions? thnaks

After installation, plug in your phone, look at your system tray for the USB icon, click it. It should show a status of installing more drivers. This can take awhile, and for a lot of people it seems to fail the last step, Android 1.0 drivers. Open control panel, system, device manager. Look for a yellow error icon. Click that, choose to install drivers manually and locally. Then select 'choose from list', find Samsung.
That should get you back on track

Were you able to unlock the bootloader? If you didn't do this, don't go installing any driver... be very careful. If you install the wrong driver in device manager, you'll screw it up. I installed the wrong driver on my main computer and I couldn't get the device manager to even recognize the phone :| I couldn't locate the right driver either because once I installed the driver, it renamed it. It was a huge pain and the only way I got this to work was by using a different PC with the correct drivers.
I have found this to be the best instructions for unlocking the bootloader. Most importantly, it includes directions on how to gain access to adb on your phone properly. Take your time and follow the instructions exactly...

I had the same issue, install pdanet and your phone will be recognized when in fastboot

how can i unlock the bootloader without installing drivers?

silly question, but after booting to fastboot, you are using the fastboot.exe, and not adb? if you type "fastboot devices" does anything show up?

no, nothing shows up.
and thats clearly because the driver is not installed correctly.. i see a yellow sign in device manager.
what am i doing wrong? only thing i was different from the guide is that instead of typing adb reboot bootloader, i got into fastboot by pressing the volume buttons.

click open that yellow unrecognized device...manually choose drivers (don't do auto), and select from the list, you'll see samsung, choose the driver
that should install android 1.0...alot of people have gotten this error.
edit: another thing to keep in mind is, after installing the drivers, and fixing the device in device manager, it can still take a little bit to initialize. in your system tray there should be a usb icon, open that to see when the drivers are done

I am in the same boat. I tried for hours on 2 different Windows 7 laptops (both 64bit). I am trying to get Yakju from one of the derivitives (without unlocking the device).
Steps taken:
- Dloaded Samsung USB driver 1.4.6 & Installed: Did not recongnize in explorer or Odin (even Odin did not show a thing)
- Dladed PDA Net A302x64: Did not recognize in explorer or Odin.
Both times the GN is in Device/Printers and listed as having Android 1.0 driver. I try to manually update, but cannot seem to find driver in list (as it just has Android 1.0 driver listed). Any suggestions?

i didnt even see the "Android 1.0".. just "unknown device" all along..
i also tried on a different computer.. same issue.
about manually installing the driver.. i tried pointing him to a manual driver package i got from this forum.. it said its the same driver..
when im searching for "samsung" on the list, i dont see a relevant driver.

Well, i've saw someone else on here who was having driver issues, who also had installed both samsung & pda drivers...
uninstall both.
fresh install ONLY the naked drivers directly off samsungs website (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/verizon-wireless/SCH-I515MSAVZW -- if you're verizon, if not, you can search there). Do the install. Plug the phone in, it will start to install its usual crap. this is the long part. then, it will fail like you saw before. in device manager, you'll see the unrecognized device. Open, it will ask you to find drivers, choose "Browse", "Let Me Pick From a List", "Samsung", and then pick the driver with the date 11/25/2011
check to see if there are any other unrecognized devices in device manager, just to be sure you got em all. at this point, plugging in your phone should show the USB connected icon in the system tray. do you see this? If you click it does it say "Eject MTP"?

ADB Issues?

Long time reader - first time poster!
I've had plenty of practice with recoveries and flashing roms and all the elementary stuff.
However - I decided to get into the world of ADB. Apparently way beyond my skill, or I've just hit a wall. I got curious and decided to check this out:

I got as far as the ADB when everything just hit a wall. Now I'm stuck and I'd like to see if I can get my skills up.
I've done multiple searches before I posted (remember - long time reader), and couldn't find an answer. I'm on Windows 8.1 x64 and I've tried:
- Installing drivers (most won't install at all)
- Other USB ports
- And other things I'm sure I can't put a finger on at the moment
I just want to successfully do this. Like I've said, I followed all his instructions to a T up until I get to the ADB. ADB Interface is not showing up in device manager and the device shows up in DM with a yellow triangle.
I'm confused! Please help!

I struggled with Windows 8.1 and adb. For me, I had 2 problems: a bad cable and turning off driver signatures. Windows prevents installation unless you turn off driver signature enforcement. Note that a bad cable can charge a unit without allowing communication.

Fancy Paperweight
I disabled the driver signatures enforcement and changed to a BRAND NEW cable.
I've installed everything that there is for ADB.
Yet, the KF won't seem to connect to my computer. "ADB Interface" doesn't even show up on device manager.
I don't want a fancy paperweight. Is there a way to reverse this, or continue on?

UPDATE: I got it all fixed.
Just like everything - Google was my best friend. And disabling the driver signatures helped big! Thanks!

Having Problem Connect Nexus 5X to PC using a USB cable

When I connect Nexus 5X to a Windows 10 PC, I can't see it in File Explorer.
Many people said that one should change the option from charging only to MTP in the USB connection notification, appeared when plugged in. But I don't even have that notification, and cannot find the option anywhere else.
In Devices and Printers, there's a Nexus 5X under Unspecified; and in Device Manager, I can see a "ACER ADB Interface" there which I assume is for Nexus 5X. I tried to download Nexus driver from Google buy it seems is the same with the ACER ADB thing and is not helping.
Any tips or solutions? Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: After awhile, maybe it's because I slid the screen while connected, the notification did pop up. But EVEN after I chose MTP, there's still nothing in my File Explorer...

I had the same thing happen on my 5X. I was only able to get to the "Use USB for Charge / MTP" dialog by enabling Developer Mode.
To do that: Go to Settings / About Phone, and scroll all the way to the bottom.
Tap "Build number" seven times. On the sixth tap, you should see a message that says "one more tap will unlock Developer mode" or something to that effect.
Back-arrow to the Settings main menu.
Click on Developer options
Look for Networking / Select USB Configuration.
Choose the mode you want.
The notification should appear when you plug in the USB cable to your computer.

could be a driver issue?
download and install latest usb drivers.
Go to My Computer> Properties>Device Manager> Find the android device>Right Click update driver software>Browse My Computer>set to folder where you have usb driver saved and go from there?
You can also try to let me pick (instead of browse local folders) and pick the google ADB interface from there.
I have also had success in the past using other software (PdaNet) to manage the whole installataion of drivers; but this adds software to both phone and computer ... may or may not be useful.
After re-reading your first post its definately driver related. It shouldnt say Acer just ADB Interface or google adb interface.

Check Device Manager, is it listed as ACER Device? It probably is. It happened to me. Select the device, mouse right, update driver, choose "let me pick a driver" or something simmilar. Then you should get a list of compatible drivers and 2 entries, the current ACER driver and some generic USB driver. Choose the generic USB driver. That did the trick for me.
This i got from reddit . I had the same problem today this link helped me .. hope it helps you too

@arpan_pratik, Thank you! You are the best! This is exactly what my problem is and I solved it using your suggestion!
Although I didn't yet find any useful information from reddit regarding my issue, you must used some magic keywords
@The_Automator, thank you, too! It indeed is a driver issue. I tried many times to update the driver or uninstall the ACER ADB driver, but none of them worked. Didn't realize that it is Windows chose the wrong default driver. Don't know why, maybe it's because I installed adb before?
So, for the record, here are some key points to solve the problem:
The wrong driver for my Nexus 5X showed in Device Manager is ACER Device\ACER ADB Interface
No use to install Nexus driver from Google, even use "Browse my computer for driver software" and search the extracted Google driver folder. Windows will say the driver is up to date.
So I have to do this: In Device Manager -> RMB on ACER Device\ACER ADB Driver -> Properties -> Update Driver -> Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer -> check "Show compatible hardware" -> choose "MTP USB Driver" (this is a Microsoft driver under "standard MTP Device" category) -> Problem solved!
Then I can find my Nexus 5X in Device Manager here: Portable Devices\Nexus 5X
After the right driver installed, if I try again to update the driver using ""Search automatically for updated driver software", Windows 10 will actually install the wrong driver (ACER ADB) back!
Thank you all in this thread to help me exclude other possibilities, lock down the culprit and finally solve the issue!

When I tried following the steps, I don't have "Show compatible hardware" nor "MTP USB Driver". When I tried installing "MTP Device", I get an error "The install class is not present or is invalid."

Yeah, and it's been a while so I don't remember exactly, but I think it was a different cable that made it work.
I've switched to a Droid Turbo 2. The 5X didn't have enough battery life for my usage.

If you have other android devices that is working on your PC, you'll notice that the driver used is the "wpdmtp.inf" you can get it on your 64-bit Windows on this location:
"C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_wpdmtp.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.16299.15_none_42867195f7d5106b\wpdmtp.inf"
Locate this file via device manager and choose "MTP USB Device"
And viola! You can now transfer files again in your Nexus 5x!

I am in the same boat but my PC stopped recognizing my phone at all. PC will see all my other devices including my pixel 2xl. But every since that Nov update I believe my PC's and diffet cables does not show up at all. Have read all the threads and so far nothing has worked for me.

Did you get it working again? I have 2 other phones working fine but the nexus5x disappeared and cant get it back. Even deleted the cache and the data for the System apps named "External Storage and Media Storage" as some suggested. Shows up as unknown device now.

Nope, was never able to find a fix. If you do please let me know.

Yes I got it working. Since longer USB cables only shows unknown device I installed android development system and it made no difference.. But I had a 6inch charging cable that came with my power brick and I tried that and viola the Nexus showed up.. Not as a nexus 5x like before but as something like romaster composite ADB interface or something and I was able to flash TWRP recovery so now I can at least get access to it. Backed up the memory to a flash drive.. Have not flashed SU or anything yet but that should not be a problem with TWRP installed.. And like usual it takes a few flashes and rebooting into TWRP for it to stick other wise the recovery goes away.. Still dont know why the longer USB cables make any difference.. I even tried it out on a USB extension socket which is a 20 foot long USB extender and that also works.. So it must be something else like when I had the MB changed the adapter I was using did not work for data transfer.. Might be using some wire that is missing in the longer cable..

No Command, No ADB, No Fastboot Nexus 5X

So I updated my phone to fix "critical bugs". The phone turned off went into TWRP, restarted and I was met with "no command". Oh great I forgot I was rooted again. So I open up TWRP, connect to my computer and try adb, oh it didn't work. I played with the drivers for literally forever installing the google driver, and various third party ones, reading every online tutorial. No work. I purchased a new high quality cord with charging+sync. It still did not work, at this point I decided that I would use ubuntu instead of windows, I have more experience doing this stuff in ubuntu anyways. Well it still did not work, the same error. No Device Found. I went through a few tutorials on some other troubleshooting, I used nirsofts usbinfo tool and I also used lsusb in ubuntu, and I could not find my phone connected. I could plug it in and out and the lsusb would look the same either way. Though my phone was still charging. I then tried on another computer with ubuntu as well and the same problem then too. Any ideas?? I am kinda on vacation and it was my source of data+contacting people. Also somewhat concerned about the new system where they check your electronic devices at border security, when it doesn't work they definitely will think its a bomb.

My Nexus 5x randomly stopped working on ADB saying devices not found earlier this year. That device bootlooped and received my replace a couple weeks ago and decided to finally setup and not sell it. The same thing was happening to my replacement device so I knew it was the drivers on the computer since my Sony Xperia X was able to ADB and all that. I finally setup my phone today and updated the firmware and found the issue. This is what ended up working.
Steps:
1) Uninstall old drivers by going to Windows key + R key together. Type devmgmt.msc and hit enter to open Device Manager.
2) Click on Android device or Portable Device and find your device, right click and uninstall driver.
3) Download/Update Google USB driver through SDK manager and install.
4) Connect your phone with the cord and it should install its own drivers.
5) Windows key + R key again, devmgmt.msc to go to Device Manager.
6) Go to Android Device or Other and right click on your phone and update driver software.
7) Click on Browse my computer from driver software.
8) Click on Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
9) There should be 1 or 2 lists under Model. Double click on the first one and it will update it. After that finishes, go back to step 6 and until you get to step 9 to double click and update the other item on the list to update.
10) Reboot computer and connect your device and it should work.
If you don't see Android Device > ADB interface in Device manager when you update the Google USB drivers, click on Portable > Nexus 5x and update drivers and just follow steps 6-9, then update the Android Device under Device Manager.
Once thats all done ADB should work, for me it did today but the android with no command showed up. For that when your at that screen, Hold power button + tap volume UP once (don't hold it, just tap and let go) and it should bring you to recovery screen with the choices.

There is no android device or portable device, I have used many oem cables too.... Using usb diagnostic tools it doesn't even show it as plugged in, though it still is getting a charge. The positive and negative wires still are supplying electricity but the sync wires are not working, though it doesn't seem to matter what cable I use. With the second part, do you mean with using the SDK tool? I was just installing the google drivers from the standalone installer.

I don't know then. You have usb debugging enabled on developers option.

Do you have the "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008" ? In the com ports? If so jump to this thread nexus-5x/help/finding-solution-qualcomm-hs-usb-t364828

Cannot install USB drivers for Razer phone on Win10

Howdy,
I'm trying to get my phone unlocked and rooted. As the first step, of course, I'm trying to get the Google USB drivers to install, but I simply can't. I feel like I'm the only person having this issue, though because I cannot find a solution... The steps I'm following:
Downloaded the latest driver zip from Google
Open Device Manager
Expand Portable Devices
Right-click on the Phone entry (notice, that's the entry, "Phone". Not Razer.)
Choose Update Drivers
Browse my way to the drivers folder and click Next.
Windows then returns immediately "The best drivers for your device are already installed", and shows that it's an MTP USB Device.
I noticed that under USB devices, there's an ADB Interface device listed, and I get the same results when I try to update that, too (excepting it says it's an "ADB Interface" device, of course). I have tried uninstalling both devices to get the drivers to install, but no such. I've rebooted both phone and computer as well.
On the phone, USB Debugging is turned on, and USB mode is set to MTP file transfer.
Please help!

In case anyone else is seeing the same issues, I wanted to put my resolution up: I'd been trying to install the drivers with the Razer booted. On a whim, I rebooted it into Download Mode using "adb reboot bootloader". Once there, I had an Android Device listed in Device Manager. I ran the driver update wizard, and installed the "USB ADB Interface" option from the choices presented. I was then able to run the OEM unlock command and received the confirmation prompt on the Razer. Yay!
Now, since it's been so long, I've got to re-back-up everything so I can actually do this thing. LOL
