I've read on some threads that the phone cameras are restricted to 12MP on Custom ROMs and can't be taken full advantage of, is this still the case or have devs managed to fix this issue? If so in which Custom ROMs?
In MIUI-based Custom ROMs you get all the megapixels.
On AOSP-based ROMs I think your only chance is ANX Camera, but thats not available for some Xiaomi phones. I think Poco F3 is not officially supported yet. This is the project: https://camera.aeonax.com/

Doesn't seem to work with UW and Macro cameras
How is this camera if you have tried it out? Is it considerably better than a gcam with good configs?
How hard was the installation, I saw that you have to flash zips and install some addons and stuff to install it.
Is it worth installing this anx camera?

I believe the 48MP does not work, you can try to find a better version in the photography telegram group, I can't link

As everyone was asking for some guides and fixes of the Google Camera on our Mi Note 3 device, I decided to help you out with a guide and all necessary resources to get it working.
First of all, for people new to Google Camera, follow @dimi89 's guide as an introduction to all processes needed to achieve a working camera port.
To make it simple, you need to:
Unlock bootloader
Flash TWRP or boot it through fastboot (there are plenty of guides here)
Install Magisk systemless root through TWRP recovery
Flash my fixes module below to enable Camera 2 API and make front camera working as desired
Install the best APK for you from https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
Be happy
Until now, we had it working but some features like Portrait mode, front camera HDR+ and portrait, plus front camera flash were missing.
With the help of @defcomg I managed to make a Magisk Module as a bundle that does both enabling Camera2API and adds necessary libs to fix the camera. You can download it below.
As per the apk of the GCam on your device, I recommend latest Arnova8G2 version. You can also find it at the bottom of this post. It is great and does not require any other settings after you apply the fix in Magisk.

You can test it on your device on your own risk. If it does not work you can delete module from magisk.

Thanksss. With arnova v6 (and this beta) works fine. So I've a problem but...you have 60 FPS video? For me is ever 30 FPS and I search in every part of the web the way to have got 60 FPS in full hd. No, you shouldn't have any issue with that.
This zip for magisk. Install this zip with TWRP.
You can record [email protected] slow motion with google cam and [email protected] with stock camera.
But if you enable this mod you cant use portraid mode on stock camera if you want use portraid mode
you can deactive this mod at magisk modules

Hello! Today, I finally unlocked Camera 2 API, and searched for best GCAM modded version, with no luck. The mostly problem is focus. I'd like to see working focus mostly. There's any? I don't want to get back to Oreo, or root my phone.

How you enable 2API??
all the versions recommended here, told "focus working", or any version you can try from celsoazevedo gcam mods website, will lose focus because reason is simple. after official upgrade to PIE from oreo, focus is broken in kernel so only way to fix it is to use custom kernel. i'm on pie and using butterfly kernel (or dragonheart kernel has same fix) so gcam focus is working properly as it's supposed to be. i try different gcams from that website regularly and custom kernel is the only way for it.

Wrong. Flashing a custom kernel was the old method, some gcams' focus works properly. Try the CameraX9 from here with the given config file : https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/themes/2-gcam-hdr-camera-t4053783
You can also try Urnyx05's ports of Gcam from here :

GCam_v7.0.009-v4.4.apk works OK in both front and back cameras but you can't record videos with it. Gcam doesn't really improve video quality, so you can stick to stock cam for video, but most of the latest gcams work fine focus-wise.

It's lacking many configs/features/selfie but I tend to prefer the reliable focus.
After the Android 10 update, Gcam is no longer working.
How to fix it.

Have you checked if camera2 is working?
You must add persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1 to build.prop in /system, that's what's missing.
Flash the attached zip in TWRP.

Hdr was working on front as well on custom rom, I was talking about the fact that I was unable to take picture or gcam crash when I tried (even when hdr was disabled). Guess I messed up the cam2api enabling somehow. Anyways fixed since.

Download BSG's latest Gcam. (Not the alpha build) It works with all lenses and everything in the app works and you don't need any configs, just install and you're good.

Yeah, Gcam takes better, sharper photos than the stock cam. You don't have to update if you don't want to.

Wide angle lens works fine, so does the telephoto and video recording. Everything works. It works on Miui or Custom ROMS.
