Is it Safe to Disable the Stock Launcher through ADB? - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

I'm presently disabling services and packages with adb on my mate 20x. I have Nova launcher installed as my default launcher. I'm thinking of disabling the default huawei stock launcher. Is it safe to disable while Nova is the default launcher?
Lets say I do and something goes wrong in the future where Nova doesnt boot, is there a way to enable usb debugging in the phone since there'd be no launcher present?

Don't do that. Even if nova never fail, by disabling huawei home you lose recent apps option with left (or right) down key. You press recent app key- nothing happens. I was not acceptable for me...

I'm confused by your reply. The recent apps function has no right or left key. What do you mean? Are you talking about the 3 key navigation as shown below?

yes, someone put it left someone right. but anyway you lose functionality of this key press. nothin happens, you cant navigate through open apps and cant close all

Appreciate the reply. I have 2 questions..
1) But instead of using the keys, will the gestures work. Or will I still lose functionality? I ask because I only use gestures not the keys.
2) If I disable the huawei launcher then later on I re-enable it, will I be able to re-enable the same home settings as before?

1. it is same, just 2 ways of getting recents. so, also no recent apps with gestures.
2. yes, if disable. when reenable you get all functionality. if delete- remove, then there is also adb command to get it back without full wipe (factory reset

Appreciate the reply. I see.
When I do adb commands on my 20x, I have to always re-enable USB debugging in settings after I power on my phone even if its been enabled before which is strange. It seems that USB debugging defaults back to its original unset settings after power off.
But in case I'm unable to re-enable USB debugging if the launcher is deleted, is there a way to re-enable USB debugging using adb with no launcher?
.

No, you must have nova

I understand that. But my question is, even if you have nova and for some reason when you boot your phone and theres no launcher present, how can you enable USB debugging through usb?

I think you can't

Hey man.. just so you know I went ahead and disabled the huawei launcher through adb. And youre right, the recent app gesture function doesnt work. I tried installing a gestures app but again it fails to work with home launcher disabled. Do you know of a workaround?

[Q] Select Home dialogue keeps popping up

"Select Home" dialogue keeps popping up very frequently when I'm pressing the home button even though I've selected Home as default.
Anyone knows what causes this or how I can remove EasyHome?
I had the same problem when I had a widget for Smart Calendar Pro on my home screen. I've reported it to the makers of the app

I was having this issue too and the culprit was the Hotmail app... It's a bug in the Android system if any app has a language call Mata data (or something like that) it will forget your default settings of your home launcher.
I remove the Hotmail app and haven't had a problem ever since. If it wasn't for Nova launcher telling me which app was causing it, I would have probably returned my perfectly good running device.
If you don't have the Hotmail app installed, I recommend you use nova launcher and let it alert you which app is causing the issue. Uninstall that app reboot your phone and you should be good to go and then remove nova launcher if you so choose to.
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I installed Nova Launcher (used it earlier but decided to give the default launcher a go for this new phone), but didn't really see where it could tell me what the culprit was.
Anyways, I managed to reproduce it pretty effectively.
Long press home button
Opens up Google Now
Short press home button
Select Home dialogue appears
I had the Google Home widget on my main home screen, removed that now.
Looks like the dialogue does not appear anymore, guess I'll know by the end of the day.

Uninstalling the app worked, thanks guys!
it appeared on mine after installing the 10j 'leaked' kdz.
could initiate the prompt as per the above steps above to long press hold to open google now then quick press home
removed it by uninstalling "Apps" application that appeared with 10j.
Shook187 u r awesome man
Thank you
Removing Netcom Apps solved the problem for me as well!
Thank you so much @shook187 and @Kentarii
Great suggestion!

I get the same thing.....had my phone rest twice. Didn't work. They sent me a new phone and not it does same thing. Love the phone except for this problem. THeir tech support sucks & all they say is send phone in with no loner for 7-9 days!! THey need to send a fix out in an update!!
Thank you so much shook187 for your suggestion. It worked for my LG G4.
1. I've installed the Nova launcher.
2. Then tried to press the home button number of times choosing the Nova Launcher.
3. Next I clicked on the Nova Launcher home screen and kept my finger until the setting wheel appeared.
4. I clicked on the setting and at the top was displayed notification ' Fix it app causing a problem'.
5. I clicked on the notification and selected uninstall.

[Q] Lockscreen security

Hi folks,
I'm running stock (rooted) Lollipop on my M8 with pattern unlock. The notification and quick settings are active whilst in the locked state. I have both the wifi and data toggles on the quick settings. This poses a risk to me, if my phone was to part company from me, anyone could disable connectivity and stop my phone from being tracked. How do I 'lock' the notifications drawer when the pone is locked? I would like to disable the power menu as well whilst locked, but I'm not sure if that can be done.

Go to settings > security and reset your pattern. You should get the options to show all, hide sensitive, or don't show notifications in lockscreen.

This is how Lollipop is, there's no way to disable it. I agree it's an issue, but a thief also has other ways of blocking connections (remove sim, power off phone, etc).

That's right. You can run commands in fastboot as well that disables and resets the lockscreen in case you forget your PIN/password/pattern.

True, but in the time it would take someone to work out how to either remove the SIM or force power it off, I should be able to track the phone, plus leaving WiFi on allows me to connect to it even over public WiFi and get a location.

I'm not sure the average thief is that clued up about fastboot commands.
Thanks for the input here, I'm going to seek out a workaround with xposed modules, this should not be a thing.

WiFi is one thing. But most current smartphones are the same in terms of powering off (just hold the power button) or popping the SIM (just stick a pin in the hole to remove the tray), and a lot of folks know how to do these; and probably most thieves know how.
I don't debate that you have a legitimate security concern. Just don't agree with the comment about thieves being able to power off or remove the SIM quickly.
I'd be just as concerned about the casual (non-thief) person who found the phone thinking "hey, free phone!"

I was looking around at xposed modules, and Advanced Power Menu+ (APM+) has some anti-theft features, though they mostly deal with access to the power menu. You should check it out. I haven't used it in a while, but it says it is compatible with lollipop.

Possible way to disable keyboard toggle when using wireless USB touch pad?

Hello,
I am using a Dell mouse/touch pad. It works awesomely attached to my armrest. The only issue I am have is that I have to toggle off the "enable hardware keyboard" option in order for the keyboard to popup and fully function when I want to enter text. I was wondering if anyone might know a way to have this permanently toggled off using a program or by other possible means? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try downloading a 3rd party keyboard and setting that has the default one, I know some of them have the option to automatically disable the on screen keyboard when a USB one is attached.

Thank you for the advice,
I have tried multiple 3rd party keyboards. Still, every single time the unit boots from a full shut down I have to toggle off "Hardware Physical keyboard". (Picture attached). Just the tip of what looks like predictions shows until I toggle the setting off. I have still been researching and have yet to find a solution.
Oh, I have also tried 2 other touch pads. The issue remains across all ROMs tried.
Ohx2, I have also tried Xposed disable full screen keyboard and have also used app settings to manually set the DPI for the keyboard to no avail.
What about disabling the keyboard app in settings>applications?

I have tried a mix and match of disabling keyboard in settings/titanium backup. If I hold on the notification and view, the app info is part of the Android System. Still can't find a way or an app to change this input/hardware physical keyboard prompt.

Maybe there is an xposed module that will do what you need?
Just following up. I found another post on XDA with another person trying to accomplish the same thing I was. The post doesn't really go into any detail, but I was able to accomplish having the hardware keyboard toggled off on boot. It took the apps Tasker and Secure Settings. Created a task in Tasker, selected the Secure Settings app, selected the hardware keyboard option from one of the selections, set it to turn off in tasker, then created a profile attached to the task to perform it at boot. I hope this helps anyone else wanting to attempt the same thing.

How to disable Air Command?

How to disable air command?
I did intensive google research, nobody seems to be able to disable air command, except using paid system app disabler.
It also occurs on every samsung devices with stylus running android 8.1 and after.
Is there any solutions or we just have to deal with accidentally pressing the button when using the stylus, and forgetting the option of stylus button commands on other apps?
Even the hold button to erase in Samsung's own Note app seems to be random for me, sometimes it works, sometimes it just open the goddamn air command.

Sorry for the late reply,
Have you tried it for air command? Does the apk conflicts with other apps? Will the device still recognize the button?
I use the device for my work so i can't risk resetting it and have to do a full backup-restore cycle.
Thanks

No, I haven't tried uninstalling (the right term is disabling) air command ! I never needed a such this (perhaps third-party applications depend from this app)
This way - mode disables applications for the user....After any device Reset, all disabled applications reappear ...
IDK your job and I can't put your job in risk

So you mean is : the adb command just disables the service from running, so it will turn back on after reset (power off-power on) and not factory reset, right ?
EDIT: So i just did it, succesfully.
For samsung's notes app, button still works as eraser, and no air command!
For Infinite Painter, button recognized as "Front stylus button" and can be used without hassle.
EDIT2: S-pen settings are completely gone, but i had all the settings that allows you functions such as hover to scroll, hover to give more info abt buttons (one you can hover over a button and it shows the button's name), hover to enlarge images in gallery app, hover textbox to handwrite in it. Idk if any of you who disabled these settings then disabled the app would result the same.
And all the air command-accessible only options are gone such as translate, bixby vision, glance, screenwrite etc. As expected.
MANY THANKS

ok nice....
No, it's not right !
Remember: the disabled applications will reappear only after "Factory Reset" (no power on-off)
*_From stock recovery or through the central settings > About tablet > Reset ....
I uninstalled it via:
Code:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.samsung.android.service.aircommand
I can confirm, that all the S-Pen Settings are gone, but other than that the Pen works fine (I hope )
At least I can use the button now in LectureNotes without having the stupid menu pop up all the time.
Edit: Okay there is one thing you should know! Before uninstalling the aircommand service, you MUST configure the pen how you would like it. For example the hovering. If you forget to disable it before removing the service, you can not configure it using the UI but need to do this using the settings command.
For example:
Code:
adb shell settings put system pen_hovering_pointer 0
to disable the hovering pointer

Question Any way to force google assistant instead of Bixby?

As per the title, I've tried everything I could find to replace bixby with Google assistant but nothing seems to work properly.
Has anyone managed to force assistant to be the default, along with OK, Google?
Thanks!
Odd, I would think that it would work the same as on any other Samsung device. Just set it as Default. I also use a Package Manager to disable Bixby anything if I need too, but when I get my Fold 3 next week, I will let you know if someone has not answered by then.
settings > apps > choose default apps > digital assistant app > device assistant app
choose google.
I read some where that in oneui 4.0 you will be able to replace bixby with Google assistance on button.

How did you get google assistance on your button? Since right now only bixby is possible. Unless you install 3rd party app that does the work.

I have no idea! Smart switched from Note20 Ultra, and it just works like that. I don't want it. Like I said I set my power button to be a power button. I wish I knew! All I know is that Google assistant is set as default and side key is set to power menu. Maybe try that? I'm still trying to figure out how to disable this because I want my power menu back! If I figure it out I'll update here. (See attached video so you know I'm not just pulling your leg)
Okay I figured it out. Apparently I had a Bixby routine I forgot about! Must have carried over to my new phone but lost its "inactive" state. Not sure when I created this but totally forgot. So through Bixby routines you can override the preset options and make the button do whatever you want. Search for Bixby Routines and just create one like in the screenshot:
